If you are rooted, than you have ,,super user" or "super su" app, enter app, and look around, you''ll find unroot (or something like that) press button, and i think that that's it, for bootloader you must use fastboot, tupe command i think that tha command is fastboot oem relock.
Also you can find nandroid backup for your cid.
Forgot, on what android version are you ? 4.1.1 or 4.2.2 ?
If you are on 4.1.1 use method with ruu.
And last i think you can't but someone else will tell you, in fastboot tupe fastboot getvar all, copy everything except imei and serial number, so someone can tell you what ruu can you use.
Hope i helped.
He doesn't need to unroot the custom rom because he can't update with that anyway. And root is no issue to update at all.
And dont relock !!! You can't restore a nand with a relocked bootloader

I'm sorry but that's all I need to do to get software updates for my phone??? Sorry.I'm.still a noob in this
You have to download android sdk bundle (google) and go the platform tools folder, open a command prompt in that folder. Hold shift and click the right mouse button and select : open command window here. Then put the phone in the bootloader and press fastboot once. You see if all is correct in red text : fastboot usb.
Then enter the command in the command window on the pc and tell us what comes out

yes if you find RUU everything will be stock but you can install nandroid backup with stock recovery and again you can receive the update. Read a little bit more before to start do anything to your phone. I see you are not advanced user and for this reason I write in RED the importhant line. Read more one two days and after this if you feal advanced start with flashing. The best way will be if you find the RUU for 2.17.720.2

Thank you again
Well no, but i think they pulled some very old OTA's. so if you are on a certain old android version it won't find the updates anymore. I edited my post and install the 2.17 ruu too. Check again after that. If it's still not working after the 2.17 ruu i have another option

Hi Guys, let me express my gratitude beforehand for all the help that you have provided gratuitously to so many users so far. I happen to find myself in a delicate situation with my newly acquired(last week) HTC One X, that after a few days of use prompted me to install an update. I foolishly accepted and started the installation. After it rebooted it found itself in a bootloop - starting, vibrating for a second, displaying the Quietly Brilliant logo and then restarting again. I then began browsing on the XDA forum and researching on this particular problem. I started with the common troubleshooting steps : tried entering the recovery menu (power+vol down) and selecting "Recovery" - that didn't do anything differently-, then i tried a factory reset, same thing, then i tried and installed the RUU that i think is for my device(i'll post the name below) that ended up with what i thought was a successful process but ended up in the same bootloop after the restart.
At that point i read further and decided to root/unlock my device so i can try and install a custom ROM. Unlocked my device using the unlock token provided by HTC and then installed the clockwork recovery tool. After that i tried installing a couple of custom roms like ARHD31 which seemed like it was going to work(got through the configuration settings but after the restart this time was stuck at a HTC ONE logo ). I later read that for this to work you need a newer HBoot(mine is 1.12.0000). I then tried flasing an older rom with ICS(Renovate) that did not work either. I am not ruling out that i may be botching up somewhere in the process though, that's why i am seeking your help.
The RUU that i tried for my device is:
RUU_Endeavor_U_ICS_40_S_HTC_Europe_2.17.401.2_Radi o_2.1204.135.20_release_274900_signed.exe
My details for my device were as follows(also attached a picture):
****LOCKED**** (it now reads UNLOCKED or RELOCKED if i lock it to try the RUU)

Oke i will give it a try
Download this firmware
http://arhd.onedroid.net/db_mirror/Firmware/HTC/HTC_One_X/401/3.14.401.31.zip
1: Rename the file to firmware.zip and copy it to the fastboot folder
2: put the phone in fastboot usb mode/bootloader
3: enter these commands
Fastboot oem RebootRUU
Fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
(maybe needed a second time, watch the outcome of the flash on the pc)
4: reboot the bootloader and check if the bootloader changed from 1.12 to 1.39
After that we continue, or find another way to flash it back.

The "Fastboot devices" comand returns the SN of my device, however the "adb devices does not list anything". Also looking in device manager i can no longer see my device, could that have to do anything with it? should i reinstall the HTC drivers maybe?

no thats oke, in the bootloader you can only use fastboot commands. But try again but this time use :
Fastboot oem rebootRUU (watch the capitals)
it has worked this time! waiting at a HTC black screen now and after that i'll try the command to update the firmware.
LE: Should the phone take that long after the RebootRUU command? been sitting at the htc screen for 5 minutes now
Yes please
Edit :
Once its on 1.39 you keep the phone in the bootloader and execute this ruu.exe from the pc with admin rights (select with right mouse button and run as administrator)
http://www.androidruu.com/getdownlo...Radio_5.1204.162.29_release_302015_signed.exe
Once the phone hits that screen with the HTC logo you do the firmware flash command !
I'm beginning to think that it's stuck as it has been sitting at the black HTC screen for 10 minutes now. Also the back of the phone is quite warm (near the camera). Could it represent a hardware problem maybe?
Refresh.....edited my post. You have to flash the firmware when the phone is on that screen !

Sorry one of those PICNIC moments on my part ran the command, it's doing it now. Will let you know how i get on shortly.
LE : Does it need to reboot itself automatically after the bar has filled? looking at a full bar currently.
No reboot it please
Fastboot reboot bootloader
Or hold the power button and the volume - button to enter the bootloader again
Did the flash on the pc say OKEY ?
I have rebooted, the H-boot now reads 1.39.0000 i think that's what we wanted, but the Radio also changed to 5.1204.162.29. I am waiting now for the RUU to finish downloading.
Okey, that's cool. Well to give some background info on the meanwhile.... The XE variant you have seems to be a HTC developers phone. Hard and sometimes unable to officially update via HTC ota. This is a way that might work. If the ruu does not work we can always install a custom rom.
I also don't know when the ruu is flashed successfully and the phone boots again if it will find any further updates to android 4.2.2 sense 5. But that's a thing we will address later
problem solved
You sir are a genius and a blessing that has managed to explain the steps so well and with patience that i managed to bring my phone back to life just when i was about to give up. I cannot express my gratitude for the help that you have provided, if you ever find yourself in Romania please contact me via my email(sent you one on gmail) and i will happily meet with you and have some drinks!!
As far as the updates go i will never install one on this phone again, as i have just noticed when i was setting it up that there was a red warning saying that this is a test device and it will send feedback automatically to HTC and i cannot turn off that feature. Does that mean that it might be limited in some regards if it's a developers phone (maybe hardware or does not have all the features)?
Again cannot thank you enough! problem solved by this awesome man.:highfive:
Ah awesome news. Well if you ever want to go up to sense 5 just let me know
Cheers ! And have fun with the hox

While installing CM10.2, i had flashed cm10.2 and the gapps. however forgot to flash boot.img through fastboot.
Now, none of the systems around me are recognizing my phone nor he drivers are getting installed. Upon reboot screen gets stuck on CM boot logo. Unluckily not expecting any of this, i havn't made a backup as well. Please help. Thanks in advance.
As you can see in the picture the phone boots up to this screen. A friend of mine bought an HTC One on ebay and he found out it was rooted/unlocked so he went to put it back to stock and may have bricked the device while doing so.
EDIT: so I am able to use fastboot, but not adb because I can't get into Windows. Flashing the stock Verizon RUU I found still doesn't get me anywhere though.
Is there any hope for this device? Thanks in advance!
You have to select bootloader to get to the recovery option. What kind of computer are you using and whats it running?

Yea I saw that after messing around with it some more. It is Windows 7 x64.
I tried the one at the bottom of the page as I can't find one anywhere else. I also used the commands at the bottom to try and flash it.

When you go to device manager on your pc with the phone pluged in and in fastboot mode, does it show android phone or unknown device? Try using these drivers http://vzw1files.dyndns.org/ADB/ADB_Drivers.zip
You need a signed ruu which you can get here http://vzw1files.dyndns.org/RUUs/2....2_NV_VZW_3.71_002_release_341019_signed_2.zip
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip file.zip
May fail with flush error do above command again.
fastboot reboot

OK cool I will try that once it downloads. It shows "My HTC" in the device manager. Also with the fastboot devices command it does give me the device ID.
EDIT: That worked! Thanks a lot for the RUU file, as I could not find that anywhere.
Hello. A friend of mine has the same problem. She tried to flash this RUU: "RUU Zip M7_WL_JB_50_VZW_1.10.605.10_decrypted" but the phone doesn't boot. Here is more info about the problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2688936
Can she flash the RUU posted here?
This is what the hboot says:
Unlocked
m7_wlv pvt ship s-off rh
cid-11111111
hboot 1.54.0000
radio 1.12.42.0906
opendsp v31.120.274.0617

Thank you very much.
She can, but since she is s-off, its better to flash the decrypted one. http://vzw1files.dyndns.org/RUUs/2.10.605.1/PN07IMG_M7_WL_JB_50_VZW_2.10.605.1_DECRYPT.zip

First, thank you very much. She changed the CID to VZW__001. That's not a problem, right?
Does the CID and MID have to be compatible with the RUU? She has this MID: PN0731000.
Downloading this RUU, will report back.
Again, thank you.
Yes the cid and mid need to match the ruu. What you have now are the correct ones. However 11111111 is super cid, which would have also worked.

Hello again. Before we try to flash the RUU, I would like to ask you the steps to do it. This is what we gonna do:
1. Download RUU
2. Rename to "ruu.zip" (Optional)
3. Enter fastboot mode
4. enter "fastboot oem rebootRUU" - You should not see a silver HTC logo on your device.
5. enter "fastboot flash zip ruu.zip" - The first time you execute this command, it only prepares the flash
6. As soon as the flash is done preparing, enter the same exact command again "fastboot flash zip ruu.zip"
7. Now you'll see a little green progress bar on your phone. This does not need to reach 100%. As soon as your command window is finished, you can just "fastboot reboot".
8. You should be set back to fully stock HTC One.
And that's it? Nothing else is needed, right?
EDIT: we flashed the RUU. Now the phone boots always in fastboot. No matter what option we choose, the phone does nothing and goes back to fastboot. On the bottom of hboot there is a new line in red: "Active cmdline overflow! (1073 Bytes)"
Ok try changing the cid back to 11111111 super cid, then run the ruu again and see what happens. Before doing both, use the cmd
fastboot erase cache

Hello. We just did it, and still the same problem. We were reading that some people solved this by doing a downgrade to hboot 1.44. But I don't want to make this problem worse.
You can try it, its worth a shot. Just flash an older ruu. http://vzw1files.dyndns.org/RUUs/. Dont remember which one goes with 1.44

You can't be more kind. We made a downgrade, and now we can use CWM again. (We did the downgrade before reading your post, so we didn't use an older RUU) Now thinking hwat should be the next step: flashing a ROM (custom or stock, mounting a pendrive) or flashing an older RUU or anything else. Again, dude, you're awesome.
I'm stuck in a similar situation and any help would be appreciated so I don't screw this up. I can get into the bootloader but not into recovery (gets to the first TWRP screen then reboots). Safe mode works fine too.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The problem is nicouy that you are s-on, and on the newest kk firmware. An s-on phone will not allow you to "downgrade" firmware, and we do not yet have the latest ruu available, at least to my knowledge. So your kind of screwed right now untill we get our hands on a kk ruu.
I tried to update my phone to 6.0 from 4.4.2 with ADB. Came with an error "System partition size error". It doesn't see the SD card when I tried to install from it.
My phone stuck at hboot screen. I can only access recovery and hboot menu. And when I tried to update to Lolipop with exe from a computer it says "Error 155: Unknown error". Xp 32 bit USB 2.0.
After I said reboot system through TWRP and it said No OS installed! .
But I have already installed ViperOne 3.2.1 Kitkat and Stock 4.4.4 before without any error still can't escape from boot menu. Any help would appreciate.

Did you update the firmware? I ran into a similar issue because my device shipped out with 4.4.2.
To update the firmware, you have to do the following:
Set your OEM's CID. Do not use SUPERCID.
My device was GPE, so [fastboot oem writecid GOOGL001]
Re-lock your Bootloader using Fastboot.
[fastboot oem lock ] then [fastboot reboot ruu]
You'll see the device logo centered onscreen.
Flash a firmware update file (does NOT have to be a whole ROM) and you'll be able to update to the threshold of that firmware.
I have Marshmallow firmware. So I can use MM or LP as well as KK ROMs now without bootloop.
Be sure to hit thanks if I helped! Be even more sure to PM me if you need help (like firmware files if you have the same variant).

He is S-Off. No need to relock the bootloader ever.
And for S-On users, the only time you will need to relock the bootloader is for running an RUU
Also, superCID will work with any firmware. No need to set the CID to his carrier's (not OEM's) CID

I thought so too. I'm also s-off but my firmware update stalled code 20 until I relocked the bootloader. But when I was finished I reversed that course [fastboot OEM unlock] and then dismissed the warning.
That's exactly what I did. Note that I mention RUU in my Fastboot instructions. :\

Something I got in the Fastboot.
You open a command window and reference the file.
You either get a OKAY (milliseconds taken) or FAILED (error##). Some errors are obvious, like the cable disconnected, your recovery is out of date, update your SDK.

How did you do that ? You wrote the code on your own instead of copy paste the whole code ? I don't know whether can fix that ... let's try again.
1. You need to install the old version TWRP recovery as your current hboot is 3.16.0.0000
install TWRP 2.8.1.0 - https://dl.twrp.me/m8/
2. After TWRP 2.8.1.0 installed, boot to recovery
mount - system
3. connect to PC and open a command prompt from your fastboot/adb folder then run command
adb shell
then this code (copy and paste .. don't write them on command prompt on your own)
Code:
echo -ne '\x30\x00\x50\x00\x36\x00\x42\x00\x37\x00\x30\x00\x30\x00\x30\x00\x30' | dd of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5 bs=1 seek=16384
exit
on recovery select reboot - bootloader
then run command fastboot getvar mid - you should have 0P6B70000 now (hopefully)

I've succeeded to open boot menu. Then I tried to install this version: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347796593
but sd card gave me "wrong zippe image!". When I tried to install with .exe it gave me "Error: 155 Unknown error". Couldn't install with command either. I think something is wrong with firmware or rom. By the way there's a text "OP6B100x" behind my phone. Are we sure about the variant of my phone? I'm not even sure which firmware and rom I should install. I appreciate all your help.

Text "OP6B100x" behind your phone most probably due to change of back cover.
Your getvar on post #1 clearly shown it is Sprint

where the "OP6B100x" should read
meid: 00000000000000

After you installed 6.20.651.3_full_firmware.zip, you should run the 6.20.651.3 RUU.exe (you should not get error 155)
but instead, you tried a lower version RUU.zip which require a htc_fastboot to flash it. I don't know what you meant by "sd card gave me "wrong zippe image!"". Was it you tried with external_sd method ?
about the screen that you get .. I don't know for sure .. maybe it's because your ROM version is wrong for the firmware that newly installed ... and maybe (the one that I'm always scare of) .. you previously installed GSM firmware 1.12.401.17 on a CDMA device which may altered some of your system partition tables.
That's why there's a big warning here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51700638&postcount=2
warning! provided only for folks who have changed their mid and realized they shouldnt have,or achieved s off via a java card. DO NOT change a gsm or vzw device to this in attempts to use it on sprint and convert to a sprint device(or vice versa).
Can you post current fastboot getvar all result after you made all these changes ? You may need to reflash the 6.20.651.3 and run 6.20.651.3 RUU.exe after the firmware installed.
