This seems to be a well documented issue in other device forums, but I was wondering if anyone here figured out how to handle it.
I just switched from Verizon with a note 2, to tmobile with a note 3. I drive a 2012 Subaru STi that has bluetooth connectivity. With my note 2 everytime i got into my car, the phone auto connected no problem.
With the note 3, I have to use the car's menu to select the phone and manually connect... every time i get in the car. From what I can ttell this is an issue with 4.3 android, and was wondering if anyone has found a way to fix it without rooting.
Thanks,
Derek
When you paired the Note3 initially, did you grant full access in the phone? I go through this with almost every android phone I pair after installation of a new head unit. As long as you check the box for remember choice for all and hit OK/Yes, everything works. The iPhone is the only device that seems to make this a fully automated thing.
On another note, the line out audio dock works flawlessly on the note 3 as well. I use it for all my tunes.
I have re paired the device multiple times and have not noticed a box to check for remember the decision. Someone said I need to establish the profiles ...but that only works when in the car and once I disconnect it resets. I had no issues with the note 2 the only change is the note 3. I'll try again and see if I get a box to check. There are no auto connect issues with my beats by dre wireless headphones or galaxy gear watch

I don't seem to get any option like you have mentioned

If you select the device in the Bluetooth device list on the phone, and press the settings icon, are all the boxes checked?
Yeah and the Un select as soon as I leave the car. What baffles me is that my headphones have no problem connecting. While this is not a deal breaker it really is frustrating me
Sent from my SM-N900T using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Right now sitting in my living room they are unchecked. If I go turn my car on and select my phone from my car it connects instantly and both of those profile boxes will check themselves

Ok I guess I am going to throw in the towel on this. I have spent several hours trying to figure out why the hell this phone wont connect and my previous one did.
I found the profile settings under the bluetooth options, but those are always unchecked when not connected, and checked when connected.
I think I am just going to give up as no one seems to know why the note 3 fails at allow auto connect to some devices and the note 2 had no such problems.

Out of curiosity, what OS version were you running on the note2 when it was working as it should be? I wonder if the issue lies in the TouchWizzed 4.3 that is on the note3 as opposed to the 4.1.1/2 variety the note2 started with (I know they have 4.3 now, but perhaps they didn't when you had the device...?).

Good question, I had not thought of that.
I had 4.1/2 originally but also used Beanz's 4.3 touchwiz so that my note2 worked with my galaxy gear.
So even a 4.3touchwiz on the note 2 had no problems.
Is anyone able to have their note 3 auto pair with their car? if it didnt work at all I would be able to move on and accept the loss, but for some reason my headphones auto pair in a flash. Hell I would rather the headphones not work and the car does!

While I don't get to use it often as it only resides in the wife's car (2012 Equinox), I have had no issues w/ bluetooth pairing/use. It's interesting the variability of outcome seen in regards to things like this (and I imagine rather frustrating as well) - I am regrettably at a loss.
Fair Enough. Thanks for trying guys I have given up!

lol, thanks. Actually i was hoping an answer from anyone having problems.
I was having them quite often, figured out it was only when I had DSP manager or Awesome beats installed AND set to modify the bluetooth sound. Not sure if this is your case or not but thought I would chime in. To fix I just unchecked ALL options under bluetooth then unpaired. (Turn off BT go into BT on phone, unpair, turn BT on phone off, reboot phone) then I repaired and no more disconnects.

I've been having this problem with my Sony head unit and GN. It takes a couple tries for a2dp to connect and will randomly disconnect. Happened on ICS too.
Stock rooted.

I got lots of disconnections from my car audio system.
My heart rate monitor and nokia head set disconnects too much. Over 5 times in one hour.
My wife's GN also disconnects from her Kenwood head unit. Far less frequently than mine, but it happens. I'm surprised more people haven't chimed in on this issue. My dad just got his GN yesterday so I'll check his tonight to see if it too suffers from this problem.

at least i am not the only one with problems. Since i never tested bluetooth in stock ICS i thought it could be some hardware problem. But apparently other people have too ...
I had no such issues. I use it with a Plantronic 925 and a Gear4 BT stereo speaker, none if them working differently than they did on ICS.

I haven't had problems with Bluetooth audio. When I use Bluetooth File Transfer between my Xoom and Gnex, I can view my Xoom's file system from my GNex. When I try to view my Gnex file system, I get a an error message saying the Nexus does not support OBEX FTP, which it should. Not a big deal but it is a nuisance.

I am gonna test this !
i notice Bluetooth issues when connected to my motorcycle helmet.
using stock or other custom roms it will start to cut out or skip when i put the phone in my pocket and at highway speed it loses connection completely.
when using cm10 "official not the kangs" it has no issue whatsoever and the connection distance is improved 20x. i can have the phone 20 meters away and it still stays connected and even at highway speeds.

CM10 = Cyanogenmod Version 10. It is the first Jelly Bean Rom from Cyanogenmod. There are many threads on the topic but you can also find information on their site.
The official nightly releases of this version has just been released for the VZW and Sprint Galaxy Nexus as well as other devices.

I received my MOGA gamepad for Android. I have put fresh batteries in twice (the gamepad), reset my phone twice (android 4.1.1 Stock Samsung Galaxy Note 2, International). I can get the Gamepad to power on, blue light flashing but my phone will not find the pad. I have tried to do it manually also via settings, Bluetooth, scan. I have other BT device that my phone has found and pairs with fine. I have turned all them off and unpaired them. The pad, as I said, blinks blue for pairing but my phone can not find it. Any advice would be of course appreciated!
are you using the moga pivot app? the gamepad only works with moga pivot app and certain games. u can download a universal driver but its not perfect for non sanctioned games.
Yes I tried to use the app. When that didn't work I tried to do it manually. The pad blinks blue but will not sync. My other BT devices are working fine...perhaps a bad controller? I am going to try it on my wife's GSIII when she gets home later today from work.

I have tried it several times via the app, and waited until it said device could not sync....
I am having the same problem with my sprint gs3 stock. It looks like it is a OS proble from all the threads I have read. But I suspect some moga's are defective. Damn flashing blue light.

Yes...the FOREVER flashing blue light. O/S issue? How so? I am tending towards a hardware issue with the pad. I have not been able to test it on my wifes phone yet, she is stuck at work...LOTS of SNOW coming down...
It might be a hardware issue. Nexus users do not seem to be having a problem. But I did see that a lot to f people with galaxy phones have Bluetooth issues with some devices. It is either one of those problems.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
Do you have any links to forums discussing this? I am going more with a hardware issue. I have several BT devices hooked to my N2 (keyboard, mouse, headset, speaker) and all work fine. I emailed MOGA about the issue, have not heard back from them yet.
Well I tried it on my wifes phone this morning via the app and manually...neither way would sync. She has a GSIII (stock). I have not heard back from them via email...guess I will have to try and call them...

I am going to call today as well. Seems to me it is the pad. Best bet is to assume it is the moga considering it is new technology from a unproven company in my opinion.

Its tmo service which is causing the issue. They dont allow devices to access their network through phones.
I have an acura with acuralink, been researching for literally a year to get this stupid acura link to work and i cant figure it out. Another guy on the acura forums has a verizon phone he said it synced up without him trying to.

I personally don't think its a rom or phone issue, its on tmo's side. But give it a shot, might work for ur needs. Lemme know what happens, its a step in the right direction

My T-Mobile Note 2 is working fine with Ford MyTouch Sync... SMS messages come through just fine. Have you updated to the latest firmware for your car? Another thing to try is to power cycle the car... delete your phone from the car, delete Sync from the phone, power cycle the phone, and pull the car's battery cable for a minute.

It just didn't work. Everytime I got a text my phone would give the alert noise. It's like my phone would think that somebody had already read the text message. So when I picked the phone up I didn't even know that I had received a reply because I had the radio on and couldn't hear the phone. So its like the radio was trying to get the text but couldn't all the way. I would check and neither device would say I had a text. The phone would have the text but would say that I already read it. My Sync system wouldn't even receive it.
When I started the car up the other day I heard music but the display was all black. The first text I received after that it started alerting me and giving me the option to read them. So my issue fixed is self.
Ido believe that unplugging the battery may have fixed this issue. That is as long as the regular old school car battery was the one that powered this device. As my car is hybrid.

Thanks for the info.
I see various devices on various carriers have had problems with the wifi hotspot on FoxFi after the 4.3 OTA update, and while some people have been able to get around the problem, I don't see that anyone has with the AT&T Note 2.
I've tried the trick of pressing the home button when the dialog box pops up saying "Mobile hotspot is unavailable ... To enable mobile hotspot on this device, go to att.com/mywireless or dial 611" and then opening FoxFi again. FoxFi shows the hotspot is active, but no device can see it.
I actually had PDANet installed (fully paid), and it showed that the FoxFi component was version 2.10. I uninstalled PDANet and reinstalled version 2.13.1 of FoxFi (not sure what the difference is between the PDANet and FoxFi versions of the app). Same problem.
The only other possible solution I've run across involved the Note 3 on Verizon -- accepting a new VPN certificate or forcing FoxFi to offer a new one up by getting rid of the existing one. But FoxFi has never offered me a certificate, and I don't see any old one (or any for that matter) in Settings > Security > Trusted Credentials > User.
Has anyone whose Note 2 is not rooted been able to get FoxFi functioning after updating to 4.3?
Alrighty! The thus far deafening silence leads inexorably to this query then: does anyone have FoxFi running on a rooted AT&T Note 2 and is also paired with a Galaxy Gear?
I opted for stock OTA 4.3 with my Note 2 primarily because of the Gear, but the FoxFi problem on 4.3 has proven to be a double-whammy -- not only have I lost the hotspot after taking 4.3 OTA, but I also can no longer Bluetooth tether -- which means I can't get a direct Internet connection to the Gear (and do all those things that the limited, stock Gear connection to one's phone cannot do).
Somebody... anybody? I'm at an airport right now using the abominable Boingo $5 for 24 hours of 2.8 Mbps d/l speed service on my tab. I would root and find a way, but I don't want to have to mess (read: spend time) with the can of worms that would open with pairing my Galaxy Gear....

Most custom ROMs have it built it.
I don't know about cocheci, but as I indicated above, I'd need a custom ROM that also works with the Gear without problem. From what I've gleaned from its thread, the Sky Note Air 4.3 ROM may well fit that bill. I just have to find an empty space in my schedule for the potential time sink. (Got a wife and young kids and a more than full time job, so long gone are the days when I could spend all night dikking around with tech toys.)

Hey guys and gals,
I have tried multiple ROMs now, and am having the same problem with all of them. Whenever I connect my Note 3 to my car, I get a "This device does not support media function" error that I do not get with a stock ROM.
After a weeks worth of trial and error, the only thing I can come up with are USB incompatibility, or DRM? I have tried all the rom provided usb modes, with and without debugging enabled, still no luck. Anyone know a fix?
Using my wifes phone, I was able to confirm that the stock head unit works perfectly, so the issue is definitely with my phone/roms.
Currently running Phoresis v7 (which I love).
Here is a pic of said error

I'm not exactly sure what my problem was but I updated my phone via ODIN since I was on a beta software, reinstalled the AA app, removed my car from the settings in the app (reinstalling didn't delete it) and also toggle the setting for AA on my car's headunit and then it finally worked
