I have bought used sprint mobile phone - HTC Evo 4g on eBay and when it was delivered it had pattern lock, after couple of tries it was blocked, I asked seller for the email address and password, but of course he doesn't want to tell me, he told me that it would unlock if I would do factory reset from bootloader and even gave me sprint link where it was explained how to do it, I tried doing it, but I couldn't do because I can't enter bootloader, I guess it's because fastboot is checked in settings and I can't uncheck it because without his email I can't get into phone and neither in settings. If you have any ideas how can I reset the phone or get into the phone in this case please tell me. Now I really don't have any other way just to wait for your answers, seller doesn't want to tell me anything more, only thing is that if I return it he will refund me, but I can't do it. So please guys tell me if there is any way to unlock it...
Pull the battery out, put it back in and hold power and volume down at the same time phone will load up bootloader, then just choose reset with volume buttons and hit power button to confirm.
Vin Whats Up ! Happy New Year. Have not seen anything from ya lately. G2 is pretty sweet. Hint Hint. Guys from D3rp are putting up some great stuff with Nin doing the kernel. Battery is phenomenal. Just grabbed this XV6900 (VZW)...came with WM6.0.
I used 2.31.CoKe unlocker...then tried throwing OMJ.3.09.01.Custom.exe on there. It turns on and sticks at the HTC boot screen (since the ROM replaces the vzw one).
I have to take the battery out, no buttons are responsive, etc.
I can get to the bootloader screen.
Can anybody help me. I'm looking to upgrade to custom ROM to get WM 6.1 + I heard you can get aGPS working with like google maps and whatever.

Are you sure you know what you are doing?
Enter bootloader and reflash.
Before you do, make sure it reads "CoKe 2.31" on the bootloader.
Yeah, I know what I'm doing...I think I'm just getting some misleading info. I'm used to my Samsung i760.
The bootloader screen says CoKe-2.31, guess I'll try a re-flash with the same ROM.
Check back later...
Make sure you flash the Radio before flashing OMJ's ROM.
OK, I flashed it to Bell then pulled the battery out before custimazations took place. Now I'll try OMJ's ROM...
It's booting up nicely now...just won't connect to ActiveSync...lol.
You pulled the battery out? Why not just soft reset?
Was getting to be force of habit after all those bad starts...
Anywho..got it working with Bell ROM, installed Verizon's CAB...just trying to figure this phone out. Need to search on how to add my city to its' weather app, I don't see any 'cube'...this phone's gonna go up for sale real quick..
Forget the cube! Use Slither's if you really want the cube. Besides search some more, it's a device you will want to keep, trust me.

Hi there...
So I have a slight issue. I've been away from the XDA community for a while now, and anyways, I came back and wanted to upgrade into the latest Fresh 3.5.0.1 Rom. So I downloaded it, new radios, and new pri pack, and put it on and went to work. Now that I'm here at work, I flashed 3.5, the new radios, and the new pri. Rebooted (I think I probably should have rebooted after flashing the rom, before loading up the others :-\). I got the wonderful green error arrow thing. I've had this happen before when flashing roms, so I pulled the battery, waited a few minutes, then put it back in. Pushed the power button, and now I have a brick. It won't power up at all.
So I need help, as I've never had a brick before and I'm stuck here at work, working on my mac laptop. Any advice on how to get the phone to start into recovery so I can nandroid backup would be wonderful.
Edit: I was upgrading from Fresh Evo 3.3.0.1. According to Fresh, I should have been able to flash this rom over my old version. :-\
Edit2: Realized that General wasn't a good place for my to ask my question, so I brought it over here.
Are you positive the battery didn't get super drained? Regardless, if possible, keep it on a charger in the meantime.

My battery was around 95%.
Alright, and what is this about a green error arrow? Try removing the battery for a few minutes, again and see if it powers up. Keep it on a charger.
After it wouldn't turn on, I pulled the battery for about 5 minutes, then put it back in--nothing. It's sitting on the charger atm; I might stop in at the Sprint Store during my lunch break and see if they can replace it without me getting hit with the 100$ deductible from Asurion :-\
Well, keep it on the charger. By any chance, anyone else in the office that has an Evo where you can test the battery to make sure it didn't magically die on you?
If not, try putting the battery back in and holding the power for an extended time...like a minute. I have heard that to work on occasion.
The green arrow was downloading the radio img. I think your pretty much bricked when u pulled the battery u caused it to stop downloading the img. Dors it by any chance enter bootloader if not itsbricked

But unfortunately, you're bricked. When you go see Sprint, don't tell 'em you were rooted..blah blah...say that your installed the latest OTA and its suddenly not responding.

Right. Yea hopefully my boss will let me out for my lunch in about 45 minutes and then I'm going to head to the sprint store and see if I can get a phone headed this way asap. Thanks for all your help!
Random Question: Do you think they'll let me keep the mSD card if I tell them that I have a bunch of private information on it that I wouldn't want getting into the wrong hands? And secondly, if anyone has gotten refurbed units--do they send them with SD's equipped, or will I get to keep my old one?

Yup, you're definitely bricked. That green arrow meant it was writing the radio image, and a battery pull during htat process almost gaurantees a brick. That sucks man. Before you go to Sprint, I would highly suggest you clear your sd card, either completely, or just ensure that there are no ROMS, flashable zips, or anything that will give the Sprint tech a clue that you've been rooted and flashing stuff. I've read where a phone was bricked and wouldnt turn on, so the Sprint guy wouldn't have known he was rooted, but he looked at the SD card, and saw ROMS, kernels, and other things that indicated the guy was rooted before. The tech was a jerk and wouldn't work on the phone and red flagged the account. Guy with broken phone = screwed. So yea, either remove your card before you, clear your card before you go, or remove all root/flash related zips and files from your card. Good luck man.

Well if they are able to swap it right there, they should let you keep your sdcard, and they can keep the other one. And they would have to give you the phone as a "complete" unit, so it should come with an sdcard, and if so, you can keep it as an extra.
Also, just in case, take the sdcard out now and copy it to the mac, and remove all you "rooting" files, roms, kernels, ect and place back on the sdcard; in case they don't let you keep it...but they should.

Yea I pretty much deleted everything. Never know which files might look not good to have on there. My store isn't a full blown Sprint Store--I don't think they have any real smart tech people, but it never hurts to be safe. I'm still going to ask for the card regardless.
Thanks for your help everyone--I can't click thanks anymore today--apparently I'm limited to 5 per day!

Update:
So I received an express ordered replacement on Friday. I'm was super excited until I saw the screen. There is a thumbnail sized bright spot. I'm assuming that the phone I got was a refurb, but this makes slightly angry. Now I have to go to a repair center and probably get a screen swapped out or get a new phone ordered in. Worst part about it: it's a 45 minute drive to nearest repair shop. NO wait, I lied, the actual worst part about it is the fact that I can't root until I can get it fixed
Random question: I had been away from XDA scene for awhile. It looks like CM7 is looking pretty snazzy now with 4G functionality. Is there any downside at all anymore? Before it was because there was no 4g and no HDMI. Any thoughts are appreciated.
Take your sdcard out and then tell them you just downloaded the latest ota and I have had one refurb with card and one without either way KEEP Your sdcard

I woke up this morning, unplugged my phone from the charger and it flashed and went blue and it is slowly changing different colors. I want to know how I can fix this or if there is a fix or if I should just unroot and go back to stock firmware. Let me know asap. Thank you!!
Wow...really?? 11 views and not one reply...
did you pull the battery for 5 minutes, and try again?
unroot go to completely stock. if its still there take it to sprint. if its not there wait and see if it comes back. I would say its highly unlikely its the roms fault.
Definitely sounds like a hardware failure and not the ROM. I forget what it is but that sounds exactly like something I heard about that can go wrong with the screen itself. So at least it's not your fault.
I'm pretty new here but I am going to guess that the lack of response is from the title of your post.. I personally wouldn't use the term "ASAP" in a request for help..

Do not worry about any flash count/root/ROM. If the screen is blank......ummm.. This is obliviously a hardware issue. Or the first question I would ask is. Factory charger on not?
If yes then definitely warranty replace.
Go to your local sprint store.
If this was in any way a ROM issue this would be reported more.
Or ya need to hook me up wit wat u smokin. THE COLORS MAN..
ive asked a couple time on here before about this but all i ever get is smart remarks. i have a s3 that i have had rooted and put hell fire rom on it.idk if that has anything to do with the problem. i been running hell rom for about a month with no problems. and one day i wake up and my phone didnt cut on or nothing. i never droped it. so i know its not that. after messing with it for awhile i figured out that the phones led comes on when connected to a power source with out the battery in the phone. it will not do this with the battery in it. i have tryed booting into download mode. it never worked. im curious to think it is a battery issue. but i cant be sure. and before i waste my money on a battery it would be great to get some help on what to do or what the problem is..

How is it even possible to get a complete brick by not flashing anything? Just wake up one morning and your phone doesn't turn on? Doesn't make any sense...
I have and the S1,2 &3 flashed 100's of ROMs and usually the only thing that can hard brick a Samsung is flashing a ROM/Kernel for another phone or a bad flash from ODIN.

You did something that youre not telling us because things dont just break randomly, and/or without cause 99% of the time.
I dont help people that try to act like "i dont know what happened, it just magically stopped working maybe a unicorn tampered with the motherboard while i was asleep" kind of nonsense.
The guys on here are trying to help you and youre not giving any information at all. So go and waste your money and buy batteries, service calls from a repair center.
But "i dont know maybe im missing something", and "i dont know what happened" is not an acceptable response from someone seeking help.
So go ahead and pulll out all the four letter words and insults, but until you start to pony up some good information your phone will be dead, and you can begin preparing it for its next stage of "life" which would be a desk decoration or christmas tree ornament

Whats up xda family? Can someone please help me out ? I need the stock ATT HTC Desire EYE backup files. (I need original rom and recovery you backed up when you rooted your phone)I rooted my phone a whle ago and somehow lost my backup! I havent had any need 4 it untill now. I recently flashed a new recovery / rom through windroid and while flashing, my laptop died in the middle of the process. I managed to fix alot of stuff by flashing mm 6.0, (thanks to Tahir and Arun.Gunupud for the advise) but unfortunately that didnt replace all the necessary files, So im having major network issues now. I can only recieve calls in h + mode or lower. 4g and Lte go straight to vm. Big shout out goes to Tahir , Arun.Gunupud and all the other senior members and dev who took the time to help me out! Will be sending out some donations as soon as i get this thing up and running 100%. To all my fellow noobs out there. If someone helps you out, show some love! say thanks, shoot em a donation. Even if its a couple bucks! buy em a beer, idk.. js One hand washes the other! Thank in advanded for any help! One love!
Not sure if you have seen my other replies to you in the other thread. Your call issues have nothing to do with missing files. All the most if not all of the desire eye roms are built on international firmware, since there is no official AT&T MM firmware. This international rom set up does not support high definition voice, which is why when your device is set on 4g and above you don't receive any incoming calls. You can make calls out, and text in and out with no issue. Only way around this is to have carrier turn off the high definition feature or lock the phone in settings to 2g/3g and keep it off of 4g, which will help with the calls but you won't have the higher speed data otherwise.

Link above is an AT&T backup I did for a developer nearly 2 years ago. Not sure if it was TWRP 3.0.0 or 3.0.2.
Edit it was probably TWRP 2.8.4.0
Yes I did see where you replied. Thank you. I guess my rational thinking just could not comprehend why a phone that was designed to take incoming calls on all available networks is suddenly unable to take incoming calls after a flash. Especially if it's designed to be used internationally. It just made me feel as if something is not right. Not doubting your knowledge at all its just how I am. Constantly trying to figure things out especially when they don't do as designed. So your telling me that because I switched roms I sacrificed my 4g LTE speeds? If so that sucks, lol . Do the ends justify the means? I've rooted many phones and devices back in the days and the only compromise we had was on cameras and NFC. Maybe we should put that in the disclaimer with the not responsible for bricking lines. Oh well live and learn. But I did figure out exactly what you said last night while playing around with settings. I put it in 2g/3g auto and I can receive calls all the time. Doesn't really bother me much, but it's like having a car that is designed to do 150 but can only go 35. But it's all in fun. It's only a stupid phone... haha But thanks for all your help bro. You guys are great! I'm off to flash some more roms.

If you contact AT&T and disable the the high definition feature you can put your eye back on 4g for the data speeds. The international Roms are only 4g not 4g LTE. Your phones high definition feature is built on the LTE. I turned the feature off and had no other issues. If you want full featured rom with NFC and everything else working I can point you to two that have it all. Disclaimer keep the high definition feature disabled or call issues could return. A simple phone call will give you your high speed data back. ### the eye is the only device I ran across with the issue, it was also the first I had that had that feature. My HTC 10 doesn't have the issue because the US unlocked gets updated prior to rest of world. I've moved away from buying from carriers.
Hope you get everything figured out. Enjoy your day

So i just called att and had them turn off HD. I was told to reboot then i should be ok. so i rebooted and went back to change settings to 2g/3g/4g auto. I tried to place a call to myself and it went straight to vm. Signal had 3 bars & in h + mode. Then placed another call when I had full 4g and still went to vm. Is there anything else that needs to be done to turn off hd? So I switched back to to 2g 3g auto and calls go through fine. Honestly its not really that big of a deal to me. I cant tell the diffrence between 3g & 4g. Hey as long as it rings when im called and im not like "can you hear me now, Can you hear me now." im good! lol No way am i ever going to go back to stock. Thank you for your offer but it's not necessary. I do this for fun, enjoy tinkering lol. With everything I've done and tried on my Eye I'm surprised I didn't kill it lol. I finally have my 10 to the point that I want it. Tried all the sense Roms and am currently running stock rooted with Magisk, which allowed me to install Dolby atmos and viper4android sound mods. Pretty impressed with it, great device.
If you need anymore help feel free to contact me

hey man your top gun in my book! Im the same way I love to tinker! Im actually proud of myself for not bricking it yet! i was going to go with the m10 but opted for the desire eye only because I kayak and the eye is water resistant. its kind of fun to throw it in the water and not freak out! but im seriously thinking of getting the 10 so i have more options and keep the eye for when i go to the water. Thanks again Buddy and b- safe. and best of luck with all you do!
