Whats up xda family? Can someone please help me out ? I need the stock ATT HTC Desire EYE backup files. (I need original rom and recovery you backed up when you rooted your phone)I rooted my phone a whle ago and somehow lost my backup! I havent had any need 4 it untill now. I recently flashed a new recovery / rom through windroid and while flashing, my laptop died in the middle of the process. I managed to fix alot of stuff by flashing mm 6.0, (thanks to Tahir and Arun.Gunupud for the advise) but unfortunately that didnt replace all the necessary files, So im having major network issues now. I can only recieve calls in h + mode or lower. 4g and Lte go straight to vm. Big shout out goes to Tahir , Arun.Gunupud and all the other senior members and dev who took the time to help me out! Will be sending out some donations as soon as i get this thing up and running 100%. To all my fellow noobs out there. If someone helps you out, show some love! say thanks, shoot em a donation. Even if its a couple bucks! buy em a beer, idk.. js One hand washes the other! Thank in advanded for any help! One love!
Not sure if you have seen my other replies to you in the other thread. Your call issues have nothing to do with missing files. All the most if not all of the desire eye roms are built on international firmware, since there is no official AT&T MM firmware. This international rom set up does not support high definition voice, which is why when your device is set on 4g and above you don't receive any incoming calls. You can make calls out, and text in and out with no issue. Only way around this is to have carrier turn off the high definition feature or lock the phone in settings to 2g/3g and keep it off of 4g, which will help with the calls but you won't have the higher speed data otherwise.

Link above is an AT&T backup I did for a developer nearly 2 years ago. Not sure if it was TWRP 3.0.0 or 3.0.2.
Edit it was probably TWRP 2.8.4.0
Yes I did see where you replied. Thank you. I guess my rational thinking just could not comprehend why a phone that was designed to take incoming calls on all available networks is suddenly unable to take incoming calls after a flash. Especially if it's designed to be used internationally. It just made me feel as if something is not right. Not doubting your knowledge at all its just how I am. Constantly trying to figure things out especially when they don't do as designed. So your telling me that because I switched roms I sacrificed my 4g LTE speeds? If so that sucks, lol . Do the ends justify the means? I've rooted many phones and devices back in the days and the only compromise we had was on cameras and NFC. Maybe we should put that in the disclaimer with the not responsible for bricking lines. Oh well live and learn. But I did figure out exactly what you said last night while playing around with settings. I put it in 2g/3g auto and I can receive calls all the time. Doesn't really bother me much, but it's like having a car that is designed to do 150 but can only go 35. But it's all in fun. It's only a stupid phone... haha But thanks for all your help bro. You guys are great! I'm off to flash some more roms.

If you contact AT&T and disable the the high definition feature you can put your eye back on 4g for the data speeds. The international Roms are only 4g not 4g LTE. Your phones high definition feature is built on the LTE. I turned the feature off and had no other issues. If you want full featured rom with NFC and everything else working I can point you to two that have it all. Disclaimer keep the high definition feature disabled or call issues could return. A simple phone call will give you your high speed data back. ### the eye is the only device I ran across with the issue, it was also the first I had that had that feature. My HTC 10 doesn't have the issue because the US unlocked gets updated prior to rest of world. I've moved away from buying from carriers.
Hope you get everything figured out. Enjoy your day

Thanks for that, I'm going to contact my carrier and have them turn off the HD as you suggested. I'll keep that just in case I may need it one day , never know. But thanks a milli, Appreciate that. I'll report back as soon as I talk to ATT.

You're welcome, however if you do want to go back to the factory AT&T lollipop, let me know, or look for my username above in Android file host, will upload a copy for TWRP 3.0.2.0. Just hang onto the recovery image you already have for 3.0.2.0
Have a good day

So i just called att and had them turn off HD. I was told to reboot then i should be ok. so i rebooted and went back to change settings to 2g/3g/4g auto. I tried to place a call to myself and it went straight to vm. Signal had 3 bars & in h + mode. Then placed another call when I had full 4g and still went to vm. Is there anything else that needs to be done to turn off hd? So I switched back to to 2g 3g auto and calls go through fine. Honestly its not really that big of a deal to me. I cant tell the diffrence between 3g & 4g. Hey as long as it rings when im called and im not like "can you hear me now, Can you hear me now." im good! lol No way am i ever going to go back to stock. Stock is for punks!!! hahah
Thats no fun!

my only suggestion is change settings back to your original 4g setting and turn phone off for 10 minutes and see if that fixes it.

Thank you for your offer but it's not necessary. I do this for fun, enjoy tinkering lol. With everything I've done and tried on my Eye I'm surprised I didn't kill it lol. I finally have my 10 to the point that I want it. Tried all the sense Roms and am currently running stock rooted with Magisk, which allowed me to install Dolby atmos and viper4android sound mods. Pretty impressed with it, great device.
If you need anymore help feel free to contact me

hey man your top gun in my book! Im the same way I love to tinker! Im actually proud of myself for not bricking it yet! i was going to go with the m10 but opted for the desire eye only because I kayak and the eye is water resistant. its kind of fun to throw it in the water and not freak out! but im seriously thinking of getting the 10 so i have more options and keep the eye for when i go to the water. Thanks again Buddy and b- safe. and best of luck with all you do!

So i have rooted my phone a while back, and been flashing new roms back and fourth , but not sure why recently after a couple of weeks, i have seen my 3g signal drop without me doing anything, on the same places were i usually get perfect 3g signal,
i updated the radios to recent ones, update the profile , PRL profile etc so see if these was the problem that 3g drops all the time,
so i have flash myths , cya mods roms, MIUI , and evry other sense roms like HD SACS and fresh evo etc and i even try AOSP roms to see if the sense roms was the problem, but with AOSP Roms it even drops more,
example of what i mean:
i will be using the internet were it takes forevr to load cuz 3g dont kick in,
than out of no where 3g works perfectly for like 5 to 10 mins,
than after a while i try to use any application that uses internet like facebook, pandora, youtube etc, the 3g starts acting up and doesnt kick in , does this evry other 10 mins which its annoying the crap out of me.
PLEASE IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME I WILL EVEN DONATE $20 TO 30 BUCKS FOR YOUR TIME BY PAYPAL.
NOT SURE WHAT OTHER OPTIONS I HAVE, AND I REALLY DONT WANT TO REPLACE MY PHONE AND IM PRETTY SURE I CANT BRING IT TO SPRINT TO FIX IT CUZ ITS ROOTED, OR CAN I?
THANKS
Here is the best thing to try for starters.
Start completely fresh.
Download this zip
http://www.mediafire.com/file/ikylelx99c49133/Calkulin's_FORMAT_ALL.zip
flash that zip from recovery and it will format everything without a doubt.
Then flash a rom like this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=874251
stock rooted ruu - simple and no modifications.
If you are still having issues after this, then it is possible that you are having hardware issues.
It wouldn't hurt to try updating your radios as well
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485 - the combo one at the top should get them all.
+1 those are the best suggestions than I think can be given to help with your situation. I had the same problem on my hwd 003 evo sent it in and got a hwd 004 speeds were better I think it was a hwd problem cause I couldn't find a fix.

you might wanna try going to a Sprint store with service center, maybe they can figure it out there, as you've basically tried everything one can do at home to try and fix it, and are still having problems.

Here's one to accompany that. It may not even be your phone. Call *2 and ask if they are having network issues in your area. Mine was doing the same thing after a storm (we had tornaders...yes, tornaders...live with it). It was back up withing 48 hours, then again, I reported the issue.
I'm sure they have some pretty good monitoring systems in place; however, if the guys behind the NOC are anything like the guys here at my work...well I won't say anything, but you can piece together the picture.

nobody else i know have 3g issues, because i have ask my friends with evo's and my roommate to let me see there evo and check if the sprint network just acting up, but is not cuz there phone is running good. but it seems like i start getting normal 3g signal when i first flash a rom, than after a couple of hours or a day it start acting up, its annoying as hell cuz i could be in the middle of doing something during the day and when i need my phone to work with 3g, it start acting up,
thanks though for the suggestion, not sure if rooting the phone would effect the signal problem,

Just because you see it drop to 1x doesn't mean anything. That means that sense doesn't want you to know about it. so there is no icon for 1x since aosp is different and doesn't lie it tells you the truth. I thought things like this from time to time until I did this. Flashed stock. Speedtest... sat in the same spot flashed CM, speedtest. Both were about the same.. some tests were faster on CM then sense and some were faster on sense then CM. I get my email... and my market downloads never fail... So I can't really complain.
I surely hope this topic hasn't been made... I don't want to be that guy.
Short and sweet... I'm rooted (that MAY not have anything to do with it)
I got this phone launch day... It worked perfectly. Not saying this is the reason why but as soon as the Iphone 4S was released my phone started failing.. Essentially what it does is give me a fast paced busy signal when I try to make a call. Sometimes I have to attempt to make a car 15 times or more. Of course that is annoying but people also get the same signal when they try to call me. Since I'm in sales that is a huge problem.
I called Sprint, the local store. The lady told me that while OG EVOs were having that issue I was the first SII. She said sprint was currently upgrading (and I read stuff in the news to back that up on a national level).
So after receiving no help from the local store I called the 1800 sprint1 stuffola.. They had me go through the whole ##xxxx## stuff. After doing that and it not fixing the problem they suggested I go to a sprint store and have my phone replaced. Now I, don't want to do that. I really don't want someone else’s phone and I just have this thing.. Where I don't want another phone (even though it will be an SII).
Now, I have an airwave at the house and I have absolutely no problem there. Calls come and go as they please. Which makes me feel like it isn't my phone. Is there anything I can do before I go and replace my baby... I really don't feel like going through the whole unrooting process and getting rid of the triangle before I go in there...
I've done PRL updates so that isn't it.
Not sure, but maybe try flashing the new modem...
Bobby O'S Epic Touch..
I had issues with busy signals and calls not going through also....until I turned off Google voice from my computer. I was using Google voice and groove ip to make calls over wifi and once I turned wifi off my phone was useless. If you aren't using GV then I have no clue lol.

After talking with some sprint tech's for a while about issues not only in my area but with the phone in general I found out that they can very very easily find out if you are rooted with a click of a button. I noticed that every single rom that I have ever used always says the name of the rom in the build number area of phone info menu. That is an easy way for sprint to see that you are rooted. Any way to change that or can't rom devs just not edit that part with the name of their rom? I know what rom I'm using, why does it need to be there?
Rom developers do that so they can ID the rom for a reason; and if you're dumb enough to bring it in rooted and the check to see your system, of course they are going to know, a five year old could tell the difference. Either put on a stock rooted rom, change the build prop, or unroot period.

+1... even if that was left totally stock named, and the rom looked like a stock sprint rom, they could still tell you were rooted... all they would have to do is look on your sd card, or look for apps that only work if your rooted such as superuser, rootuninstaller or any file explorer... take the extra minute and unroot to take your phone in.

It's usually a good idea to
1. S-On the phone
2. Flash an unrooted stock rom
3. switch SD cards
4. Uninstall or do not install any apps requiring root permissions
5. Lock your market (with an app protector)
before taking it into any Sprint Store for service.

Must be contagious around here. If I was having problems with the phone in general I would first dump the rom and go back to stock to see if it was a issue with the rom or the phone. Common sense.
It was a phone call to sprint about network issues. About towers that were not working correctly and the tech I talked to at the Kansas center over all network issues could see **ALL** history of the phones ROM. Didn't matter what rom I curently had on the phone. It gets logged into the system. PERIOD. He told me it was rooted and told me the name of the rom installed and what day it was installed. I was kind of blown away.
I didn't walk into a store and say here's my rooted phone, fix it. Never heard of anyone unrooting a phone to call in about network issues. EVER! All I'm asking is is there a simple way to change the info that the Sprint system would see when it gathers the info about the phone to avoid detection of being rooted and a non stock rom installed. That's all. I understand you have life issues and feel angry at the world and need to make an ass out of yourself but if you can not just answer simply then just don't answer.

Thats the most insane thing ive ever heard. IM almost 100% sure that sprint can't read your ROM details. In fact in order for them to even trouble shoot over the air, they would need your permission to link to your phone using the main network. So dude im kinda sure that your back pedalling a little here after some responses. For future reference try wording your ?'s so they represent your intentions or future actions. Dont get all boohoo on us when you receive a little criticism. The way you are posting gives the impression that you blindly walked into a sprint store without unrooting. Next time just tell us what needs to be done ask for some help and someone will def hook you up right.

It may sound insane to you but that doesn't change the fact that its true. I know what the guy said on the phone. He said exactly what rom I had installed. You're kind of sure? So you have no idea what you're talking about you so you assume something? Lol The way that you are posting indicates you just want to start something with someone for no reason. Stop trolling and move on to the next thread.
They don't need any permission to link to your phone. They own the rights to access your phone by way of the contract you have with them. They have every right to check the connection between the towers and the phone. By doing that info gets logged to the system about the device connected.
I talked to tech's in the Kansas center that deals with network issues. These are not standard lvl 1 tech's. This guy called me back days later and dealt with me about the towers in my area that were under performing. I gave him my signal strength at multiple locations and he would (on his end) zoom into on each location and look at what was going on at each tower. Explaining to me that the tower at my work was 1.2 miles away and at that distance I should have full signal and even rolled out a van to not only check the strength in the parking lot of my office but various spots in that towers coverage. Determining that the tower had very low strength and needed to be addressed. Also figuring out that my phone was having signal issues near my home which was in range of 5 towers. I'm not back pedaling at all. I know what I'm talking about and i have no reason to ask a question with false pretense to get an answer that would not be pertaining to my actual issue. But since you like to assume everything just assume I didn't respond to your thread and troll some where else.
Wow trolling huh I simply stated what was present. In no way was I even been harsh. In fact I was referencing the way you worded your post that was causing the reactions you recieved. Like I said you had to have given them permission to link to your phone.....So that being said your gonna have a very hard time on xda when you bash people for heading you in the right direction. Good luck with being like that...

Yes, most will. Unless you get some ahole (which has never happened to me). I've had hardware pieces replaced countless times in the last 18mo., and have NEVER unrooted. I do think the key, though is it's always been for hardware issues (primarily screens and cameras).
Hell, last time I took it in, I had ICS on it. Techs thought it was pretty cool.

why dont you quit being an ass and take the advice given to you... and yes you do appear to be the idiot here. everyone is just giving you the reason, if you want the real reason, ask a developer why. If you are that worried about it maybe you shouldnt be rooting. We try to be helpful here and look at what happens. If you dont like it here JUST LEAVE and take your idiotic comments/questions somewhere else. I am sure you will fit in on some of the other forums much better. And I always wondered why people flamed and bashed SHESH! I now know why. You try to help someone out with suggestions and answers and they get an attitude... to all those people i say F**K OFF!

Did you read the thread at all? You're the idiot. Only one person answered the question, Shortydoggg. Everyone else assumed I took it into a store and didn't answer anything. As stated above, you do not need to remove root. Don't be a troll. You need to get out into the real world and leave your moms basement bud.

Like I said you had to have given them permission to link to your phone.....So that being said your gonna have a very hard time on xda when you bash people for heading you in the right direction. Good luck with being like that...

I'm not sure I gave permission. I was speaking to the guy on the phone and he was looking into different things and asked if i had updated to the most recent OTA update. Then proceeded to tell me it looked like I was rooted and had a modded rom. That was it, he didn't ask permission to access my phone.
You said I was back pedaling and that i was boohooing. Umm ya trolling! Being harsh whatever you want to call it. I didnt come after you, you came after me.

The point i was trying to make is, what does it matter what it says? if you dont like htey way devs make their roms, maybe you should make your own. Gotta love your maturity level here. You will not get the type of assistance you require here with this type of bashing and attitude.
Nope it needs to be unrooted and s off. I kinda agree with the other guy here mate. Your
post does suggest what he says it does. And flaming people for pointing things out like is f'd up. You need to-be able to handle constructive criticism to be on xda. Peeps here have heard it all,and don't take kindly to noobs acting in such a manner trust me on this one. Restrict yourself to just simply stating what and why, and you'll always be right. Cheers mate.

First of all I would like to thank all of you hear that have sound wisdom in dealing with my nightmare. I'm so new to this that my last phone's antennae is still on the top of my care and phone is in it's big carrying bag LOL. I'm 50 years old but am not done trying to learn something new. Here's the problem. I have a note 2 i317 that i bought online from someone. It's build number is jedi xp 9 android 4.1.2 Dernel version 3.0.31 SaberKernel_07+ptmr3 ect ect. So I have little to no signal strength and cannot hook up to the internet. I've called straight talk and spent an hour or two with them as well to no avail. I've been up and down these posts but I'm lost as how to employ some of the things that I have read about. Remember that I'm a noob to the max. I would love someone to put the instructions on how to fix my phone, in plain english that i can understand. I thought I might have a bad sim card as well but don't know how to check it. I've put at least 6 different apn's in and nothing. My old phone worked great in my house now i have this 500 dollars ornament that I can barely even get calls on. PLEASE can someone help me? I would be very grateful to say the least. I've read if you install something wrong that you can brick your device (whatever that means, but it doesn't sound good). I will be anxiously awaiting for the bravest soul to write me back. I say brave cause with me it might take a while. Sorry
Sincerely

You only 'thought' that you may have a damaged sim card but did you try to change it to a new one?

Would love to help you Ed, need more information on what you mean by 'low signal / cannot connect to internet'. Do you have normal phone service i.e. make calls & send receive texts?
Did the phone ever work at one point, or once you gained possession and tried it, you got the described result? I don't have your AT&T version phone but may be able to help with more info from you.
Is the modem is ur carrier modem?
Have u tried to change the modem to your carrier modem?

Yes it does work with voice and text messages but no mms and I can't connect to the internet cause of the weak signal I suppose. I haven't tried a new sim card just yet. Installed one that they sent me 5 months ago but when I called them today to activate it was no longer any good. They told me I took too long to activate it and they were sending out another one. As for the signal ...it's very weak. Like one bar two at the most. When we went to oshkosh over the weekend I saw that most everyone was on their cell phone and I couldn't call my kids unless I went searching for an area where my phone would work. I never had this problem before with my other phone that was through straight talk. I spent all day today looking for some more possibilities here and saw that maybe my modem on the phone is no good. I tried to download one and I did but haven't put it into the phone cause I'm scared that I might do it wrong and then the phone will be even more messed up than it is. i believe it's this one i717-ics-ucle2. The guy said it worked good for his straight talk. But if you all think that it's something different then please let me know. Thank you all very much for your time and patience with me. I will definitely try to learn more now that I found this wonderful website.

Hi Ed,
the phone has been modified by the owner who sold it to you. He has changed the software oh the Note2. The Problem is we don't know whether there was any problem in signal for him as well. First check whether the SIM is working fine on any other phone. If it does, then I'm afraid you might have to restore the phone to the original Software to make sure this is not a Hardware issues.

Ed, I'm hoping the links provided to you from other posters has helped. Some of the suggestions have been to try flashing new modems (you're hesitant) and even to install a new ROM. If you have managed to correct your problem, kindly update the thread so other users can benefit from your experience.
If you've had no joy, pursue within the forum for your specific device (AT&T it seems) and good luck!

Hi all and thanks again for the help you have given me. I just got my new sim card today and it seemed to help. I can get on the internet now but my signal is still only one bar and sometimes not there at all. But at least I can connect via wifi. So the sim was partly to blame. Tweeny...I never said that I wouldn't put another radio or modem on my phone, I'm just not too sure about how to do it just yet. I don't want to ruin my phone anymore than it is. I should just dive into it and see what happens. If anyone else has anymore ideas as to why i have poor reception and also I still can't mms, please let me know. Thank you all once again. I will be a regular visitor here and hopefully one day I can be as confident and resourceful as all of you. God bless you all
Hi ed
i reckon u could read up and try flashing a different modem. beyond that flash a different rom. but u obviously have a lot of reading b4 that. good luck

Are there any updates on an unlock method for 3.11.605.1? I'm having a pretty serious problem with streaming Internet Radio apps cutting out with the screen off after about 5 minutes. The app Data Connection Fix has helped out a lot, but I wanted to try out other ROMs to see if I can find 1 without this issue. It's such a shame that I'm having this issue because the HTC One seems like such a great phone. Unfortunately, streaming Internet Radio at work is the main thing that I use my phone for and my older Droid X2 on 3g outperforms this phone in that aspect. It's so sad a newer 4g device has this issue and makes me wonder if I should ever mess with another HTC device or Android device period. I wanted to get away from iOS, but I'm finding that almost every Android device I've been using needs to be unlocked/rooted to fix really simple features that should work right out of the box and with every update. The Bluetooth A2DP quality problem with most JellyBean devices has been a nightmare. That's what made me ditch my LG G2. I tried just about every custom ROM and music through bluetooth was horrible no matter what I tried, even on the newer KitKat ROMs.

I'm pretty sure there's just a setting you're missing that keeps the radio from cutting out. I used to stream Sirius XM and had the problem but I remember getting it fixed somehow. If I think of it I'll let you know. And no, you can't gain s-off on 4.4.2. If you read at all on here, you'll know when you can.

Could you please tell me what setting? I get great service where I work and haven't had a problem with any other phone. I even went to Verizon and got a new SIM card. I've tried everything, starting with factory resets and clearing the cache. I have sleep mode off, app data sync on, mobile data is not restricted or limited, I've tried with and without beats audio enabled. The audio cuts out about every 5 minutes for 5-10 seconds and comes back on, just to cut out again for 5-10 seconds every 5 or so minutes. It's very annoying. The only thing that really helps is the data connection fix app, but that's not 100% reliable. I even called HTC and Verizon about the issue and they are looking into it. I would have normally just tried a different ROM, but I'm unable to unlock/s-off/root my phone because I'm on 4.4.2(3.11.605.1). That's the only reason I even called them. I currently have my phone up for sale and I'm seriously thinking about switching my service to sprint. I'm tired of paying top dollar for used phones to keep my unlimited data on Verizon. For all I know, there could be a problem with the phone, but it seems like a software issue to me. Everything else works and runs great. It's just that streaming Internet Radio is the thing I use most.
Have you tried this?

Yes I've tried. It has nothing to do with beats audio. For some reason it just drops the data connection for like 5-10 seconds with the screen off every 5 minutes or so. I don't know if it's incompatible apps with 4.4.2 or 4.4.2 itself. It could also have something to do with the HTC sense software. It could just be the way this phone communicates with the Verizon towers. I have no idea and it's very frustrating. The last time I had a problem similar to this was when I had an LG Optimus V on Virgin Mobile and it would lose 3g and I would have to turn off the data connection and turn it back on. This is different, though, because I have 4G LTE all the time. There just seems to be a delay in receiving my data to where the Internet Radio cuts out before it signals for more data. Then by the time I receive more data, it's too late and the sound has already cut out. I did a speed test and I'm getting about 30mbps download and around 15mbps upload so I know I'm not being throttled. The only thing that helps is the data connection fix app.

I did some more testing and I don't have any issues on WiFi and I don't have any issues if the screen stays on. It's only on cellular data with the screen off when I'm having issues. I noticed the Power Saving feature was removed in 4.4.2 and instead there's a sleep mode option. I have the sleep mode option off, but I'm thinking my issue might be because of a power saving bug in the HTC software for 4.4.2. If anybody knows anything about this, please post. Thanks
Think it will ever be unlocked?
I would SO much love to have airplay enabled on my HTC One. I came from iPhone, and have a full home surround sound based on Airplay, which I now can't use. Airplay is available only through a root application, although i have my phone on 4.4.2. Any thoughts on if and when this will ever be unlocked? Otherwise it's a huge reason for me to not have this phone...

Well it took beaups and crew about 1 month + to get 4.3 unlocked. Plus it seems more devs are having issues with 4.4.2 so it could be longer. At this point hope for the best and expect the worse.
I seriously don't know why all of these companies continue to try and lock out everyone's phones (and spend unnecessary money doing so) when someone will just outwit them almost every time. If a dev REALLY wanted this done right away it would be done! Point blank... It's a cat n mouse game and Verizon will lose. I just purchased an HTC One on 4.4.2 and have full faith that it will be cracked wide open anytime now. No one can stop somebody that is determined and smarter than the person who created the bottleneck. Here's hoping to a quick S-off method soon :victory:

It's not unnecessary money to them honestly. In Samsung's case they are trying to prove that their devices are secure enough to use for government agencies. Do you think they care that a few rogue hackers find exploits from time to time? No, they just need to convince some corporate goon that his e-mails to his mistress won't get intercepted. Speaking of the S4, it's been locked down now for about 8 months so I'd say they're getting pretty damn good at it. They have root I believe, but the bootloader is locked down tight on every S4 other than the very first firmware that came with the phone. I'm not sure what HTC's motivations are but I'm guessing they need to play ball with companies like Verizon in order to be able to sell their devices in the future.
Another thing that is hurting us is that Android itself is getting more secure. They are adding features that prevent exploits so it makes it harder for your average dev to find a way in. In the future we may be forced to buy developer editions to be able to do anything. That's worse case, but you never know.
Just like you I had "faith" that a developer would crack the S4 and I could finally have freedom. It never happened. It still hasn't happened. That's the main reason I switched to HTC. I'm not saying you should give up hope, but if you can't stand a phone to be locked down you should be looking into buying a different phone just in case...

Valid points! That's why I said "almost every time"... I really just need root and I would be happy but I switch devices so much that I probably won't even have the One (my 3rd HTC One) by the time it gets exploited (if) it does. And I do understand that Google has to close a lot of security holes so that they don't look like they are such a terrible company by allowing all of these terrible "viruses" into our phones which I have never had any issues with. I do agree with you though that we will probably all be buying dev phones sooner than later. Thanks for the insight!
Just another reason to leave Verizon and go get a Nexus device.
