Hey folks,
I've been searching for answer to this problem for a while and haven't been able to find a thread that answers my questions. If there is one that I couldn't find, I'd appreciate a link.
I installed CM 10.2 on my D710. After a bunch of issues with it (couldn't get CWM to run, had to use AGAT to install CM, which then brought along a version of CWM that does work), I finally got everything up and running, but 4G isn't available (3G works fine, if a bit slower than I remember, but I've not run any speed tests). I've gone to the #*#*4636*#*# menu and tried every preferred network type – it defaults to WCDMA Preferred, which, if I understand correctly, means 3G only, but even when I set it to LTE Only, for example, there's still no 4G. I've also flashed pretty much every JB modem (and some ICS ones too) I could find (thanks rwilco12!); with some, I couldn't get 3G or voice to work, but even with those that do, 4G just isn't there. No mention anywhere in the system settings menus, nothing.
My best guess at this point is that it's an APN issue, but that's just based on what I've read elsewhere. I also haven't been able to find instructions on how to modify APNs on this device, or what the APN settings really do.
Any help on this would be much appreciated – this is my first time posting, but I've benefitted greatly from the forums in the past. Hope someone here can help me out.
4G Wimax was removed from the source code in 4.3 and up (KitKat has no Wimax as well). CM10.2 is Android 4.3, that means no 4G for us unless you are using 4.2.2 (CM10.1) and below. And no there is no way around it. Google did this because no Wimax device will ever have official 4.3 so they decided to trim down the code.

Wow. So is my best bet just downgrading to 10.1? Or is there some way to put Wimax support back in?

No, no way around it. The source code is gone. Unless you know somebody who works for Google on Android and happens to have the missing source code, don't count on it. Yeah CM10.1 still has 4G Wimax.
Well okay then. Thanks for the help! Guess 10.1 it is, then.
Okay, I installed the 10.1 ROM found here. The mobile data settings now include 4G – but it still doesn't work. Modem is FL24. Any ideas for what to try next?

What do you mean by doesn't work? Doesn't turn on? Doesn't connect? Gives you an error? My suggestion is to Odin a stock ROM and make sure nothing is messed up hardware wise.
I'm not sure how to tell whether or not it turns on, but even once I enable it in the settings, I don't see a 4G icon in the status bar, either searching or connecting. It worked fine back on stock Android; I can certainly try to go back to that (although I haven't been able to find a ZIP, only .exe and I'm on Mac), but if I can stick with CM, I'd prefer to...

Go into System Settings, click on the 4G (may be under Mobile Data, it's been awhile since I've been on AOSP) and it should have a screen similar to this (screenshot is TouchWiz, but you get the point) this is how you'll be able to tell if it's turning on/scanning/connecting.
OK, that's what I thought. So I can turn it on, but no networks show up. It says Scanning, but never finds anything. I'm in downtown SF, so I think it's pretty unlikely that's the issue.
Have you had wimax before? On a touchwiz or AOSP ROM?
The wimax rollout was halfassed at best, multiple major markets never saw it cause LTE rolled out soon after.

Welp, turns out I was wrong about that. 4G worked when I took it elsewhere in the city. Sorry for the confusion there; looks like this is resolved. I appreciate all of y'all's help!

Hey guys am running 4.01 and am having trouble with the nexus staying connected with my wifi. I have turned it off and on but all that happens is the icon goes blue then grey then disappears. Any ideas on how to fix? Cheers
I have the same problem, but there is already a thread about this
Used to have the same problem on the Nexus S. Have you tried manually assigning an IP address to the nexus and turning off DHCP on the wifi router?
Also could try turning off all security on the wifi router and try to connect. Then apply one level of security at a time - WEP (try connecting) then WPA.

WiFi Connection Problem Fix
Hi,
its an realy easy Solution. It seems that ICS has a Problem to identify bad Internetconnections. Some times, very good Connections will be droped by this new functionality from ICS.
go to
Systemsettings / WLAN / Menu / Extended / Schlechte Internetverbindung ve.. (in english something like "bad Internetconnection")
and unmark it.
The Connections will not dropped automaticly anymore.

What you said does not exist. At least after 4.0.1. We do not have that settings wlan that you are talking about. This cannot be solved the way you are saying. It is a bigger issue and something to do with particular routers with this phone

yes after 4.0.1 that feature is gone. Maybe google removed it to "fix" the wifi issues many people are having? I really think that this is hardware issues!

It may be software. (i have not had this problem my self) My old phone is the Droid Incredible. After I got my Nexus, i tuned my old phone into an "iPod". The wifi on it was always solid as a rock. I have flashed a few roms on it for fun and the latest one drops wifi all the time. That was just a software change, nothing more.

I really hope it is software. But if it is software then shouldn't everyone have this problem?
Alright guys, I think another possible fix has been found, I'll link to it soon. Also, if the thread posted above has helped you, please press the thanks button.
EDIT: I have updated this thread with yet another potential fix for the wifi issue. Please reply in the thread I've linked to, as other people are also experiencing the issue and it doesn't make sense to have more than one thread about the same issue.
Also, I've posted the issue over here, and if you look at the third reply, there could be a potential fix.

Sorry guys, but the Settings still exists. I have ICS (Stock ROM) 4.01 on my Nexus and with the settings I mentioned 3 Posts before i fixed the WLAN Problem for me.
Important. The Settings are little bit hidden. When you are at the WLAN-Settings press Menu again then you get the extended Options!!!!

Those settings are not present in the later 4.0x builds. Your version is not updated since launch.
it works
OK, perhaps the fix works only for germany.
At Germany the Android Version 4.01 with Build ITL41F is the actual ROM / there are no updates available.
Which Options do you habe at the Extended Option Menu at WLAN Settings?
I hope the 5 GHz Settings will also not disapear with the next update.
I looked and could not find a good answer to this. I am the proud new owner of a Galaxy Epic 4G Touch through Credo Mobile (the progressive Sprint reseller). I would like to install a custom ROM (CM9), but before I do, I need to know:
1) Will I have a problem activating my phone on Credo (I assume that most ROMs assume you're with Sprint proper)?
2) Once I have managed to activate it, will there be features -- calling, SMS, MMS, etc. -- that won't work?
3) Will I have a problem activating Google Voice (haven't tried on stock yet, but I have a sense of how it should go)?
4) Is there anything else I should know about the Credo / Custom ROM combination that I don't have the good sense to ask here (as a longtime CM user, I've got the basic principles of ROM-flashing down)?
Thanks all, ahead of time, for your answers!
(Sorry to even do this, but ...)
*bump*
Flashing roms do not affect the modem(which is where your service programming is stored), unless you flash a new modem of course.
I an on boost and i never have problems with any ROM, roms only affect the system partition. The modem is completely different.
If you flash a new modem, you may need to do a profile update to keep your 3g profile up to date.
I haven't heard of that so idk if a profile update will work (only with Sprint service and plans can you do an ota profile update). I am not on Sprint so i have to manually update my data profile through qpst service programming.

1. I had no problems rooting and running Blazer & Paranoid Android ROMs as if it was a Sprint phone.
2. I have a weird issue where when I get voicemails they send me an SMS, or txt (I didn't know there was a difference...), and a number to dial to choose between the 2. Then after a few minutes I sometimes get the voicemail in the Voicemail app as well. As far as MMS, I don't use them, I use email for sending pictures and videos, but if you needed that, there are instructions for changing your MMSC URL. It didn't work for me, but I don't use them anyways so I didn't bother struggling with it. Also I learned that for CM based ROMs, the ##3282## is #*#*3282*#*# or *#*#3282#*#* one or the other I don't remember.

There's the problem - you're on an MVNO.
1) Go to phone and enter ##DATA# (##3282#)
2) Go to Edit and enter MSL
3) Go to Others and then MMSC URL
4) Change from mms.sprintpcs.com to mms.plspictures.com
This should restore MMS.

this is driving me nuts now ...
everything was working fine, then i flashed a new ROM , for the first few minutes it works fine , and then it can't connect to any internet server while in status bar shows H icons (HSDPA connection) and also in system information it shows data connected.
first i thought it could be problem of my operator because such thing has happened before, so i went for sleep and the day next, still same, but i was able to use any internet applications with 2G connection (EDGE) , but not good with HSDPA.
then i asked some friends who uses same operator but they report everything was cool , therefore i begin to think it could be my end problem.
when i get back home , i tried reflash the same ROM again and even some other ROM, still can't use HSDPA connection.
i even flashed several different radios , still no good ...
so ...what the F is going on ? i really don't get it ...
could it be my phone's hardware problem ? because i accidentally droped it once about weeks ago , but after that it still works fine until yesterday which i didn't drop or water-wash or hit my phone ...
Who's your phone service provider? It seems like something is messed up with your APN settings. Do a Google search for "Provider 3G APN", for example "AT&T 3G APN"

i tried that
i even deleted them all and then restore from network with default settings
curiously , i reflashed some ROM tonight , some of them , HSDPA was working when the first time reboot into system with setup wizzard to gain restore information from google server , and able to get in google play or somewhere , but when i reboot it ....HSDPA dead again ...
Sorry mate, that isn't good enough for us to help. So, you're in Barcelona, Spain. International gsm "maguro". Tell us a few things.
Current rom ("some/same" rom doesnt cut it)
Current radio version (about phone > baseband version): should be XXLF1.
Currently installed apps that use internet access.
Troubleshoot: Return to stock by reading/using the procedure in this thread. We are yakju originally, should you care. If it happens on stock.. there are other alternatives, for example, use one of your friends' simcard on your phone, try to use umts then.
Is it even possible to select network type you want and force it only on HSDPA, UMTS, EDGE or GPRS?
I begin to feel it could be operator's problem as I have heard some, at least 2 friends of my friends have same problem in the same region as me, but my friend in the other side of country doesn't have this problem, so I will see how it will work tomorrow, and thanks to you all

well , may be not standard European version , but it works fine ...
I stand (semi) corrected. XXFL1 is the latest official Jelly Bean update. Seems like UILE1 was "built" for ICS. Doesn't matter though, for all intents and purposes what I was trying to achieve was for you to reflash a radio in case you had a faulty one installed.

I think it doesn't matter it is made for Europe or Asia or Africa or whatever, only thing have to identify is it is for GSM or CDMA, because besides CDMA, other operators in the whole world uses same frequency and protocol, basically.

Worked for the first 2 weeks and when I pressed the "Force Roam" it would roam no matter what and give me a solid signal where I would normally only have 0-1 bar of Sprint. Now when I try and force roam, it will randomly go back to Sprint's network and I'll get a crappy signal again, even if it says it's in "roam only" mode. Anyone having similar issues?
Roam Control has been spotty lately, but according to the Network Status (in Options in RC) it says i'm on Verizon when I Force Roam.
I don't think RC is being supported and hasn't been shortly after being booted off the Market. So I'm not sure how compatible it is with these latest radios and firmwares.

Hmm, never mind then. My thinking was that maybe the kernel wasnt implementing roaming properly so it wouldnt roam at all....
Ok, do you have SuperSU pro? If so, force roam and then have a look at the logs in SuperSU, there may be some errors in the commands Roam Control is running
If you dont...idk how else to get a log of the commands it runs, unless you start the app itself from a terminal and it'll spit out the command output to the terminal

Yessir it is.
Installation Instructions:
1. Delete sprintmenu.apk in system/app with a root browser (make sure system is RW and you have root access with your browser)
2. push the sprintmenu.apk to system/app
3. set permissions to 0644 (screenshot below)or rw-r--r--
4. reboot into recovery
5. wipe dalvik cache
6. reboot
Now you will have an Update Profile option in settings/about phone/sprint system updates.
Press update, it will make a phone call, just let it go until it hangs up automatically, done... Profile updated. Also check your app drawer for Sprint Diagnostics. This still needs a lot of testing and feedback. Some of the features do not work yet, I pulled some of the code from another device and I need to program this device's codes (most of which I still need to look up) on because they are not the same, be patient, it's a work in progress. A big thanks to bigdogrush from the GNex forums for pioneering this!
SprintMenu.apk:
http://d-h.st/htg
***Any option that force closes the app is not implemented yet, THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS ***
And yes we are looking into getting this working on TouchWiz, please don't ask... we're not holding out on you guys.
Working:
-Update Profile (Not in the Sprint Diagnostics app... Go to Settings/About Phone/Sprint System Updates)
-MSL Grabber
-?????

ROM Toolbox Root Browser or ES File Explorer, long click, go to permissions (Properties then Permissions on ES File Explorer), set like this... You also need to reboot after changing permissions
Very small apk, it must be called from something else.
Would you mind posting that screenshot I saw from the other thread here please?
No luck on TW. Meaning there is no new app in app drawer for me to test.
I see in the instructions that this is accessed from systems update in settings menu.
Have you tried PRL replacement yet? That is what I am really interested in.
Edit: TeamEOS link, looks interesting:

No not yet, like I said this needs a lot of testing and feedback, I don't remember if this is the full version I have or not, I'm preparing my ROM for release now, I'll look into TW after I get the OP and everything done.
OK everything is now included in my new ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40653604
Every Sprint PRL and tons of info located here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1880781
MSL grabber confirmed working on multiple E4GTs on AOSP
I don't really even use any of this stuff, I live in a great coverage area now and I'm usually on WiFi so I'll try to get all these features working but I won't be doing much testing, I will leave that up to those who wish to play with it... But we are always interested to hear results. Any option that force closes isn't implemented yet. I will be updating this when I get the free time, until then be happy with what works, it's a big step in the right direction.
This is cool,we need something like this for boost mobile.

I don't know much about Boost but couldn't you program the Boost ones in manually through the debug menu... once I get it working?
Nice to hear this app progressing on our phone
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium. Thank you

Yep, PRL Manager
Not everything works yet, hence Work In Progress is in the title.
And by the way, any Devs that wanna jump in and help out are more than welcome... Some of this stuff is a little over my head and like I said I don't really use any of these features except the PRL and Profile Updates and MSL and all of those are currently working.

Unable to write a custom PRL, either with "PRL Manager" or the "Write PRL" command. I do have prl file saved in my SD root as test.prl
Getting force close from write prl, and prl manager looks like its working but my prl stays the same.
Working as intended, not yet implemented, or user error?

I haven't tested most of this stuff because I don't use it. So thanks for the info, I will add it to my list of things to do. It is a work in progress and I need the help of testers to get this running the way it should.

I'm happy to test for you. I have always wanted to switch PRLs on the fly since i get 1x or crappy 3g on sprint at work, but i could get vzw 3g with a hacked prl. But my sprint service at home is fine, so I'd rather not roam 24/7 if possible.
This app looks like it will let me do that, without having to deal with qpst or CDMA workshop. Once its finished that is.

Cool, this is gonna take awhile, I already don't have much free time as it is and this needs a lot of work... We'll get it there, especially if some other devs are willing to help out, that's why I posted it.
