Why does Roam Control no longer "work"?? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Worked for the first 2 weeks and when I pressed the "Force Roam" it would roam no matter what and give me a solid signal where I would normally only have 0-1 bar of Sprint. Now when I try and force roam, it will randomly go back to Sprint's network and I'll get a crappy signal again, even if it says it's in "roam only" mode. Anyone having similar issues?

Roam Control has been spotty lately, but according to the Network Status (in Options in RC) it says i'm on Verizon when I Force Roam.
I don't think RC is being supported and hasn't been shortly after being booted off the Market. So I'm not sure how compatible it is with these latest radios and firmwares.

So if I switch my firmware, will it be compatible again? I paid $5 for this for nothing then lol....

Works for me all the time.

Currently MB1 with MC3 modem, but it has worked for me ever since the GS3 was supported.
Make sure you have GS3 selected and not Samsung in the options.

Are you using a ROM with a 3.4 kernel? Ever since I started using the latest CM10.1 nightlies roam control has stopped working for me and I think it has to do with the new kernel.

CRAP. Wow, now that I think about that, I think you are right. Ever since DeviantXone (the ROM I run) switched to the 3.4 kernel, it has stopped working... hmmmm I wonder why that is.

that may be, I've been running stock rooted MB1 and it works there.

Question, does it roam at all? (By itself in areas where theres no signal)

Yessir. But it doesn't FORCE roam (aka roam when I want it to; which is the main purpose of Roam Control lol).

Hmm, never mind then. My thinking was that maybe the kernel wasnt implementing roaming properly so it wouldnt roam at all....
Ok, do you have SuperSU pro? If so, force roam and then have a look at the logs in SuperSU, there may be some errors in the commands Roam Control is running
If you dont...idk how else to get a log of the commands it runs, unless you start the app itself from a terminal and it'll spit out the command output to the terminal

[Q] wifi hotspot not visible with tethering app

my devices cannot detect my wifi tether on rooted e4gt. Just installed calkulins rom v1.5a. the wifi tether app says its on but nothing. i tried messing with settings but got no results.
is anyone else experiencing this?
Let me tell you about my Wifi Tether experience with my E4GT.
I did the basic ROOT+CWM5 so I could run Wifi-Tether and Adfree.
I downloaded Wifi-Tether 2.0.7 Stable and it said it was on but my PC/Windows 7 box couldn't see it. My MacBook couldn't see it etc.
I snagged the 3.0.xxx Beta Wifi-Tether, whatever the newest Beta is and it worked.

The newest beta of wifi tether works for me. Only problem I have with it is it still broadcasts an SSID after I shut it off. No data connection, just the SSID. I need to reboot to get it to stop. Aside from that little quirk, it works just fine.

OP was referring to Sprint Hotspot app and others are trying to give him some alternatives. Its seems many people have had issues getting it to work. I run Rogue kernel and have no issue. I have had no issue with no matter kernel/rom combo I use actually.
I had tough times getting the wifi tether to work. I went with a rom that hacks the hotspot. Much better imo. Now my OG Epic and my Epic Touch can run hot spots just fine.

No way of getting around that. Your computer should ne able to connect to adhoc mine does. As far had the sprint hotspot hack mostvof the roms out have the hack and tour comp should be able to see that as well... though its only a 3g connection 4g doesnt workvon it for now

[Q] Why the hell can't I get roaming data to work? I must be retarded.

I've tried within the last month on both AOKP and CM9. This issue has spanned several versions of each for me. I have all the right options checked in both. I force roaming with Roam Control and it works but data doesn't. I have signal but can't do anything besides SMS and voice. What gives? Have I missed something obvious? Does it just not work when forcing with Roam Control? I'm on CM9 right now. I have reasonable Sprint coverage at my house and excellent Verizon coverage. I don't know what to think. I've tried on PRL's 60690 (what Sprint pushes) and 25005 (which I loaded with QPST.) I know that data roaming has worked for me in the further past but can't remember when. It's been a while.
Off chance but do you have the box checked to enable data while roaming?

Never mind I got it working. I apparently had done something that was giving me the infamous error 16. Didn't notice until I tried to make a call. Fixed that and then flashed a bunch of PRL's. Once you get it working and put in your MSL, there will be a tab called "Roam" or something like that. There is box where you just click on "Browse" and select the .prl file of your choosing.

Mobile network settings on stock MC2[SOLVED]

Is everyone able to access them? When I tap it, it causes android.phone to force close. I hope I didn't miss this issue in the forums, or perhaps it is just me? Anyone else seeing this?
Btw, I'm running deodexed stock MC2, with the Perseus kernel and a couple basic mods, like hotspot and 4 in 1 reboot. Thanks
I am able to access them. I am on deodexed stock MC2 with hotspot, but not perseus kernel or 4 in 1 reboot. I almost never get any force closes. and I almost never reboot my phone. I have 309 hours uptime right now, and i have my phone running at 1.8ghz.

Wow nice! Yeah, I have gotten speeds like that once or twice, there are one or two particular parts of West L.A. here that are really HOT on Sprint LTE!
Anyway, a quick flash of the Saber kernel didn't fix my mobile network settings force close.... I guess I'll try the stock kernel later and see. If that doesn't fix it, I must be missing something, lol.
I finally figured it out! I started thinking about things that I had either frozen or removed with Titanium Backup, and it was Sprint Connections Optimizer! I removed it because I didn't like how it kept turing on wifi when I was out and about, trying to connect to useless networks. I restored it and just kept it frozen, and now I can go I to my mobile network settings.

[RESOLVED] [Q] After installing CM 10.2 nightly, 4G not available

Hey folks,
I've been searching for answer to this problem for a while and haven't been able to find a thread that answers my questions. If there is one that I couldn't find, I'd appreciate a link.
I installed CM 10.2 on my D710. After a bunch of issues with it (couldn't get CWM to run, had to use AGAT to install CM, which then brought along a version of CWM that does work), I finally got everything up and running, but 4G isn't available (3G works fine, if a bit slower than I remember, but I've not run any speed tests). I've gone to the #*#*4636*#*# menu and tried every preferred network type – it defaults to WCDMA Preferred, which, if I understand correctly, means 3G only, but even when I set it to LTE Only, for example, there's still no 4G. I've also flashed pretty much every JB modem (and some ICS ones too) I could find (thanks rwilco12!); with some, I couldn't get 3G or voice to work, but even with those that do, 4G just isn't there. No mention anywhere in the system settings menus, nothing.
My best guess at this point is that it's an APN issue, but that's just based on what I've read elsewhere. I also haven't been able to find instructions on how to modify APNs on this device, or what the APN settings really do.
Any help on this would be much appreciated – this is my first time posting, but I've benefitted greatly from the forums in the past. Hope someone here can help me out.
4G Wimax was removed from the source code in 4.3 and up (KitKat has no Wimax as well). CM10.2 is Android 4.3, that means no 4G for us unless you are using 4.2.2 (CM10.1) and below. And no there is no way around it. Google did this because no Wimax device will ever have official 4.3 so they decided to trim down the code.

No, no way around it. The source code is gone. Unless you know somebody who works for Google on Android and happens to have the missing source code, don't count on it. Yeah CM10.1 still has 4G Wimax.
Well okay then. Thanks for the help! Guess 10.1 it is, then.
Okay, I installed the 10.1 ROM found here. The mobile data settings now include 4G – but it still doesn't work. Modem is FL24. Any ideas for what to try next?

What do you mean by doesn't work? Doesn't turn on? Doesn't connect? Gives you an error? My suggestion is to Odin a stock ROM and make sure nothing is messed up hardware wise.
I'm not sure how to tell whether or not it turns on, but even once I enable it in the settings, I don't see a 4G icon in the status bar, either searching or connecting. It worked fine back on stock Android; I can certainly try to go back to that (although I haven't been able to find a ZIP, only .exe and I'm on Mac), but if I can stick with CM, I'd prefer to...

Go into System Settings, click on the 4G (may be under Mobile Data, it's been awhile since I've been on AOSP) and it should have a screen similar to this (screenshot is TouchWiz, but you get the point) this is how you'll be able to tell if it's turning on/scanning/connecting.
OK, that's what I thought. So I can turn it on, but no networks show up. It says Scanning, but never finds anything. I'm in downtown SF, so I think it's pretty unlikely that's the issue.
Have you had wimax before? On a touchwiz or AOSP ROM?
The wimax rollout was halfassed at best, multiple major markets never saw it cause LTE rolled out soon after.

[Q] A good custom rom with 3g Mobile Data out of the box?

I have D710 I'm using a Spring MVNO (ring plus). Is there a custom rom that has mobile 3g data working out of the box? I tried the pacman rom but apparently that doesn't support data and I'm back to stock.
If not can someone tell me a good rom (preferably lightweight, that dosen't have any weird features missing, like the camera doesn't work right or something) + modem I need to flash? I'm pretty new to flashing modems but I'll look into it, thank you. It's been a little frustrating for me looking for a good rom, but maybe I'm making it harder than it needs to be.

TouchWiz ROMs will be your most stable and have everything working out of the box. Just flash the modern that corresponds to the build (GB27=GB27 Modem). I recommend Project X v3.9.

Too true. However touch whiz is a disgrace to this phone. Viluminati is at 4.4.2, has nothing missing (that I know?) And has 3g working. It may have a "call" bug that makes sound choppy when calling someone. That's probably it though.
