[Q] Playing 720p .mp4 vids on the GNex

Hey guys!
I've had my Galaxy Nexus for a couple days now, and I was thinking of loading it up with some movies I have at home. The problem is, I've ripped the movies in 720p .mp4 format on my Mac - but it won't play with the stock ICS player.. Rock Player works sort of, it shows video but it doesn't hide the on-screen buttons.
Rip details is: 720p h.264, AAC audio
Any ideas?

Yeah, stock gallery doesnt play wide range of codecs yet so I rely on MX player instead. But having the same problem tho about the on screen buttons :/
I find that the "dice" player from android market plays more stuff than any thing i can get straight .mkv files running perfect on my GN it is a paid app for the full version but im happy with it.

Do you have the stay-on-screen-buttons problem on Dice Player?
The only player that plays movies in full screen is Dice Player....but it has been removed from the market.
Have you tried Mobo Player? Works great on my Nexus S with mkv/mp4/whatever.

It needs some codec (which cannot find in market) to download first in order to use it...
Make sure you use the right mp4 level I think level 4 is the Max android will recognize all my encodes work so far

I'm using MX video player and MX Video Player CODEC.
Doubletwist is also very good.
All available from the market and have had no issues playing anything so far.

Cool, I forgot about Doubletwist, thanks.
I currently use QQPlayer, Diceplayer premium and Rockplayer. They all seem to play some files and not others.
I tried Moboplayer but ran into trouble installing the codec during the install process (even when installing 'offline')

Update - I just tried Doubleplayer, and while it plays everything it stuggles at times. More jerky (lower frame rate?) than QQPlayer.
I'd be happy with QQPlayer but the seek doesn't play nice. So if I miss something I have to start the video from scratch. And like I say, Dice, Mobo, Rockplayer and Realplayer (yes I was desperate) all appear to have various problems of their own.
I do recall VLC being released a year or so ago. But I guess it was pulled too?
I'd love to know if anyone has found a decent video app... (*I have a 4.5 hour daily commute into London!*)
Dice Player ftw!

i am using moboplayer for my sgy, its very good and it has screen lock option which is very useful while watching videos
MX Player is a good one, it could play any video formats and with HW accel (less lag than SW) and a touch lock feature
I recommend DAROON PLAYER

sir if i play 720p or 1080p videos on mx there is a lag in the video in sw mode..............how to fix it sir!!!!!!!!!!!!
mx video player is good ,yes it hangs a bit in 720 p and above(may be due to lack of sufficient hardware support) but is still an advanced player as compared to others even has a pinch to zoom function
is there any other option to play a 700mb file in it??

video player on galaxy W?

just want to know what the video player capable of it's mkv can be played on W?i also play some AVI format on resolution video some play smooth some can't play at all how to improve it?
Hello, you could try using MX Video Player from the market, and also install MX Player Codec.
I've enjoyed many anime in MKV and AVI formats and so far it works fine for me
hi,
i highly recommend QQplayer..no adds, no instalation of additional files..just install the app and your good to go..very user friendly..also comes with gesture options..so if you want to increase volume(swype up, swype down for lowering)etc..
you can get it on MARKET(FREE)

I prefer the MX player of google market
had many codecs to all the kinds of media and dont requires all acess to your device.
There are so many free players on google that free but when you install you give the permission to acess your personal data, personal information, gps location and much other permissions that i cant understood why they need all this information and how they will use this
How about winamp?? its good or what?? jehehe
Nothing can beat MX Player as the best video player of Android.

No sound for mkv files

Any recommendations for which player to use when playing back mkv movies files?
The built in video player doesn't have sound, and the few others I tried had either the same result or gave me an error about wrong version of android.

That's odd... Isn't Android supposed to support them natively as of Honeycomb or ICS?

BSPlayer is my go-to player on both Nexus 7 (1st gen) and GNex, so I would assume you'll get good results with it.

Achos video for MKV and others
BS player no sound too, and not acces to local network so ...... with Achos Video player (free) and the codecs (free to), no more issue : sound with MKV and acces to my local network. If other problem of codec buy the MPEG codecs package

Both seem to work about equally well on my N7,
Dice Player has played any file I've given it, including mkv with dts.

HEVC (H265) videos lag

Hi,
I'm trying to play HEVC video files but they always lag.
How can I play them smoothly? Someone has a suggestion for a particular video player or settings? Or simply I can't?
I'm using RR rom (Android 6) and I've tried BS and VLC (standard settings, in BS audio and video can't keep the sync)
Thanks in advance.

Intel atom z2xxx series processors are advertised to have ability to play hevc, but it lags too much even with mxplayer. Best thing to try is compiling MX player codecs with intel optimized compiler. That might help.

Using MX Player with x86 codec I can watch the video but it isn't still lag-free. Anyways it is accetable and I think it is the most I can achieve!
