i am using moboplayer for my sgy, its very good and it has screen lock option which is very useful while watching videos
MX Player is a good one, it could play any video formats and with HW accel (less lag than SW) and a touch lock feature
I recommend DAROON PLAYER

sir if i play 720p or 1080p videos on mx there is a lag in the video in sw mode..............how to fix it sir!!!!!!!!!!!!
mx video player is good ,yes it hangs a bit in 720 p and above(may be due to lack of sufficient hardware support) but is still an advanced player as compared to others even has a pinch to zoom function
is there any other option to play a 700mb file in it??

i'm trying to play .mkv and .avi files with rock player and mx player
but i can't seem to get it to work.

MX Video Player has dual core support, plays everything I throw at it. Be sure to download the codec addon in the market too.
Avi should work but mine is little laggy when playing avi. Mkv is hit or miss. The best video player should be the mx video.

which codec addon did you install?
There is only one and it should point you to the correct one the first time you start mx video player. If in doubt uninstall mx video player and reinstall. It should send you to the correct codec link once again.
i found mobo to work better than mx and rock player.

+1 on mobo

Just did some comparisons and Mobo does seem to have better playback. Smoother and less buggy. Switched from MX to Mobo Player!
i just need to find one that can play .mkv files.

I using Vplayer. Work fine with almost type of movies. And also support SRT to view subtitles.
QQ Player, search it on the web market.
Is optimized and very fast on my HTC Magic and Acer A100 and play .mkv
+1 for MX Player.
I haven't tried MX Player yet , but everywhere I search Mobo seems to be the player everyone recommends and it boggles my mind. As an app itself its pretty good, however, it lasted a total of 30 seconds on my phone after I realized that it's spamming me to no end with its bull suggestions for battery savers, task killers and a plethora of other apps I couldn't care less for.
It's too bad because the app definitely has potential.
I'm gonna give MX a shot. Hopefully that's smooth in playing back HD content on my S2.

Hi, can I watch movies with subtitles on Acer Iconia A100? Witch player support that? Does it works fine?
Thanks!
If you want to watch videos n do other stuff at the same time, you could give Super Video a try, otherwise I recommend DICE Player
Sent from Iconia A100 rocking CM9 with OC'd kernel currently @1. 5GHz
I use dice for my HD mkvs mp4s and stuff like that, mx for SD and net streaming. Dice and Mx both support subs. I used to use mobo but honestly dice and mx both play better with and seem to force HW more often, dice in particular.
Tapatalked from my Galaxy S II.
Impressive Video Player
I highly recommend the free Pop Player app. I recently made a couple of reviews on it on YouTube.
This new video player allows the user to utilize speed-control. The slow-motion
and speeded-motion are extremely smooth too and audio syncs perfectly with
the video at any speed. It can definitely be useful for athletes and students.
Some people I know even use it to replay their golf swings in slow-motion
in order to improve their form.
This player plays MP4 files that contain H264 and AC codecs.
Check out my review of this app on youtube by searching "Pop Player Free Android App"
Hi ,
Yesterday , just got Galaxy Nexus by selling my Iphone 4s and thx for replying my previous question about gpu ,
Now , I wanna look at how galaxy nexus plays videos , I googled hd videos and download Nasa videos from Nasa , its 720p wmv , and my device didnt support this format and I downloaded 3rd party application which is called Mx video player and it opened the video but it didnt play , so I'm kinda disappointed ,
I also tried Vevo and imdb and the quailty of videos werent good , So any suggestions or recommendations for watching video on galaxy nexus ?
what application am i supposed to install ?
The best
Dice player and MX video player. my all time favourite while on AOSP roms.
i usually converted any video first though but it played pretty much everything without converting. i converted just to have a 1280 x 720 resolution.
I use MX Player. Great app. Can't fault it.

Thank you , it played the video
I too use MX Player on my GN and haven't had a problem playing any format of video, wmv included.
I prefer the BS Player with the Codec Pack, seems a little bit smoother than Dice Player for me.
MX probably the best for me now. No problem with it so far.

MX Video Player is definitely my favorite as well. I do find that switching from HW decoding to SW Fast decoding works better a lot of the time for me.
If MX Video Player doesn't play my MKV files, then I try Rock Player. And if that doesn't work, then I just have to convert the file.
Dice Player to play mkv for me (haven't tried wmv), its hardware decoding runs smoothly with not too much heat coming from the phone.
MX Player's hardware decoding seems to be not working properly where it lags more than software decoding. But I have a lot of rmvb's and MX Player runs great with those.

Therollingstone, there are two parts to your question that need attention.
Firstly you say that MX Player didn't play, the reason is that you didn't download the additional files needed to be installed to play the files - You need the ARM v7 Player Codec in addition to MX Video Player app - http://goo.gl/suhcr
Now VEVO and IMDB's disappointing video quality is not the fault of the stock player - It's VEVO and IMDB's fault. They are laying video files at a much smaller resolution (most often to cater to their iPhone customers who have much smaller screens and resolutions 960x640). Galaxy Nexus has a 720P HD Display so it scales up any video you're trying to play at a resolution of 1280x720. This is the reason you might be seeing a slight drop in video quality from these application or any other videos on the web that are streaming videos at a much lower resolution.
Hope this helps.
Anyone found apps that play 720p mkv smoothly? (Type of stuff you get off the internet..)
TF101
I use my movie player, works quite nicely with 720p

I use Mx player.
You can even choose between HW acceleration or SW acceleration.

MX Player here. Uses HW acceleration, super smooth. Tried Dice Player and VPlayer, had lots of bugs on audio and video was not very smooth.

I tried MxPlayer and DicePlayer and found that DicePlayer gives me better image quality and plays everything I feed it without any problems.
My tip is to try out both Mx and DicePlayer.
bsplayer
I tried MX Player it failed to play MOV format (1080p) it was a trailer later I tried Mobo Player it works like a charm.
I've noticed the same with those players, that they support different formats, so there is no single best player really.
Like someone mentioned, MOV plays nicely with one or two players, while MKV plays nicely with few others.
I simply use 2 players which support all file formats I use.
Coming from Galaxy Nexus, I find these two very good: DicePlayer and MX Player, also heard BS Player to be very good too.

Built in HTC Video player for both mkv (720p &1080p) as well as FLVs downloaded from YouTube. I have dice just in case, but had no reason to use it yet

I would rather use the stock player too, but unfortunately it plays my mkv files without sound.
Which would be the better option? Converting the file to fit the stock player, or use players like MX Player to play those files?
Thanks
MX Player. Can switch between SW and HW decoding on the fly, and you can choose for the audio to be SW or HW too, independant of video decoding.
Yeah been using MX for a while, just concern that whether there are any compromises in sound quality when playing mkv with SW acceleration instead of HW

I've never needed to go SW sound before so I can't really say.
I've got a few 720p mkv videos and it doesn't play with sound if it's in HW mode.
The only way for me to play it with sound now is to set it to SW (fast mode or normal one).
So right now I'm just wondering if it's better to re-encode the audio so that the stock player can play it in HW, or just use MX Player and play it in SW.
Will do some experiments after I get back from work

MX can do separate encode modes for video and audio. You can run video on HW and audio on SW if you want.
Dice player plays it all but there is only one little problem with it. While playing videos there are 3 white dots (menu) remain on screen......i hope its updated soon.

Yeah but I wanna try playing the audio on HW. MX can't do that. Dice can though.

In MX Player, did you long press the video then select Play... and then S/W decoder? Not had a video it can't handle yet

Yep, i find MX player to be the best. Some formats work but the sound is out of sync but a quick play with the settings fixed it where as other players couldn't.
This is I think the fourth thread asking the same thing within a week..

hello.
I would like to play full movies 1080p & 720p on my Gnex.
I'm using mx player. before I play the video I'm shutting down all other apps via Advanced task killer.
still, the video is lagging, even with 720P movies.
what can I do to make it run smoothly ?
Thank you !
I use MX Player to play 720p and 1080p mp4 videos and they play smoothly. I haven't tried mkv videos yet, though.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
From what I understand, these video players that allow you to play non-naively supported video extensions are constantly decoding the video on a software level.
You'll need one that supports full hardware decoding.
I don't really have a recommendation...but I'd google around and see if you find one that works for our phones.
I'd help, but I don't really have any MKV files lying around
Thank you friend.
It is very important to me.
(and yes I am talking about mkv files)
