Hello, you could try using MX Video Player from the market, and also install MX Player Codec.
I've enjoyed many anime in MKV and AVI formats and so far it works fine for me
hi,
i highly recommend QQplayer..no adds, no instalation of additional files..just install the app and your good to go..very user friendly..also comes with gesture options..so if you want to increase volume(swype up, swype down for lowering)etc..
you can get it on MARKET(FREE)

I prefer the MX player of google market
had many codecs to all the kinds of media and dont requires all acess to your device.
There are so many free players on google that free but when you install you give the permission to acess your personal data, personal information, gps location and much other permissions that i cant understood why they need all this information and how they will use this
How about winamp?? its good or what?? jehehe
Nothing can beat MX Player as the best video player of Android.

MX Video Player has dual core support, plays everything I throw at it. Be sure to download the codec addon in the market too.
Avi should work but mine is little laggy when playing avi. Mkv is hit or miss. The best video player should be the mx video.

which codec addon did you install?
There is only one and it should point you to the correct one the first time you start mx video player. If in doubt uninstall mx video player and reinstall. It should send you to the correct codec link once again.
i found mobo to work better than mx and rock player.

+1 on mobo

Just did some comparisons and Mobo does seem to have better playback. Smoother and less buggy. Switched from MX to Mobo Player!
i just need to find one that can play .mkv files.

I using Vplayer. Work fine with almost type of movies. And also support SRT to view subtitles.
QQ Player, search it on the web market.
Is optimized and very fast on my HTC Magic and Acer A100 and play .mkv
+1 for MX Player.
I haven't tried MX Player yet , but everywhere I search Mobo seems to be the player everyone recommends and it boggles my mind. As an app itself its pretty good, however, it lasted a total of 30 seconds on my phone after I realized that it's spamming me to no end with its bull suggestions for battery savers, task killers and a plethora of other apps I couldn't care less for.
It's too bad because the app definitely has potential.
I'm gonna give MX a shot. Hopefully that's smooth in playing back HD content on my S2.
subtitle
Hi, can I watch movies with subtitles on Acer Iconia A100? Witch player support that? Does it works fine?
Thanks!
If you want to watch videos n do other stuff at the same time, you could give Super Video a try, otherwise I recommend DICE Player
Sent from Iconia A100 rocking CM9 with OC'd kernel currently @1. 5GHz
I use dice for my HD mkvs mp4s and stuff like that, mx for SD and net streaming. Dice and Mx both support subs. I used to use mobo but honestly dice and mx both play better with and seem to force HW more often, dice in particular.

Impressive Video Player
I highly recommend the free Pop Player app. I recently made a couple of reviews on it on YouTube.
This new video player allows the user to utilize speed-control. The slow-motion
and speeded-motion are extremely smooth too and audio syncs perfectly with
the video at any speed. It can definitely be useful for athletes and students.
Some people I know even use it to replay their golf swings in slow-motion
in order to improve their form.
This player plays MP4 files that contain H264 and AC codecs.
Check out my review of this app on youtube by searching "Pop Player Free Android App"

MX Player is a good one, it could play any video formats and with HW accel (less lag than SW) and a touch lock feature
I recommend DAROON PLAYER

sir if i play 720p or 1080p videos on mx there is a lag in the video in sw mode..............how to fix it sir!!!!!!!!!!!!
mx video player is good ,yes it hangs a bit in 720 p and above(may be due to lack of sufficient hardware support) but is still an advanced player as compared to others even has a pinch to zoom function
is there any other option to play a 700mb file in it??
hello.
I would like to play full movies 1080p & 720p on my Gnex.
I'm using mx player. before I play the video I'm shutting down all other apps via Advanced task killer.
still, the video is lagging, even with 720P movies.
what can I do to make it run smoothly ?
Thank you !
I use MX Player to play 720p and 1080p mp4 videos and they play smoothly. I haven't tried mkv videos yet, though.

From what I understand, these video players that allow you to play non-naively supported video extensions are constantly decoding the video on a software level.
You'll need one that supports full hardware decoding.
I don't really have a recommendation...but I'd google around and see if you find one that works for our phones.
I'd help, but I don't really have any MKV files lying around
Thank you friend.
It is very important to me.
(and yes I am talking about mkv files)

Dice player play with hw, lag less, mkv files:
http://market.android.com/details?id=com.inisoft.mediaplayer.a
mx and bs players both play 720p .mkv's fine for me - haven't tried any 1080p.
I notice that my new HTC One won't play my mkv files properly with the stock video player (plays the video but not the audio). Surprisingly, DicePlayer won't play them properly either.
However, MX Player works absolutely fine (I have it set to use S/W for the audio in Settings).
Just a heads up.

That HTC includes the Matroska media container is already a good sign, I am sure they can fix the small bug ...

Have you tried MX Player? I just looked at BS and to me it is very ugly. MX Player works perfect. Maybe BS does too, but it could not possibly be better, and to me it is ugly.
MX Player does the job for me here.

MX Player is the best. You can use HD+ for the video in Settings too.

I have used and extensively tested both. BS Player is the better one.
Few things that make BS Player stand out over the rest are:
Easily stream files from other device from your network.
Auto subtitle downloader. This particular one is amazing.
For instance you download a movie or tv show on your pc/laptop, you use BS Player to stream it and it will find the correct subtitle for that video and apply it.
Use BS Player, it is the best video player on Google Play Store.
I use BS player for me the best player..
I use Mobo Player ALOT, it's great, it plays almost everything, has some great settings, plus you can go back to your homescreens and it'll window the video for you so you can still watch whatever it is that you're viewing.
I've also been using VLC Player too, it's still in 'beta' but it's stable as hell and plays everything!
I had to use it as Mobo Player was messing up some of my anime subs.
<3 them both!
VLC
VLC media player does its best
Personally, I've found the Archos player to be leagues ahead of anything else.

Same here... Ive used MX, VLC and VPlayer.... Archos much better and also pulls in your shared network library of movies.
Defo worth trying out.
Ive had disappointing results with MX Player on the ARHD 7.0 - for some reason I cannot enable HW playback so my 720p videos stutter along in SW mode. They run fine on my Galaxy S2

Wow... Archos looks awesome... like XBMC (which is also an option for Android from xbmc.org, but not in the play store)
EDIT: Archos won't play my DTS encoded MKV without buying the codecs. Lame. EDIT: I stand corrected, I guess there is a free codec too.

TOTALLY forgot about XBMC for android!!! I'm an XBMC junkie but haven't modified my HT setup for a while. thanks for the reminder! I just installed it and it looks just like the desktop app. I'll have to do some testing fir sure. if anyone else is interested, here's the link:
http://xbmc.org/download/
Easy to maintain settings as well according to their website. It saves it in user data so updates don't wipe them out.

Is there any way to add additional codecs on to the stock video player?
If not, is there another video player that would work like the stock video player that could shrink the video player on to home screen for multitasking purposes?
The reason is that I have a lot of mkv and rmvb videos, and don't really want to go through the hassle of coding all of them.

The best one at the playstore is MX Player Pro, I think it even plays more formats than
the stock video player and it looks almost the same but it has a lot more features on options.
The MX Player Pro does have a different codec for different phones,
if I recall it automatically downloads/install the correct one.
It plays mkv, rmvb and just about any and all other formats.
I never found a video which it cannot play.
Here is the playstore link so you can check it out: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mxtech.videoplayer.ad&hl=en
Its really excellent.

I've been using MX Player Pro too, just that I want to be able to really utilize Note 3's multi tasking features more. The Note 3's video player has a pop out feature when it'll shrink and continue playing on your home screen while you do other stuff. Just wondering if there's any other video player that could do that too.
