TWRP and CM 11 error - G Pad 8.3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
It's my first post here so please excuse me if I'm posting in the wrong area.
I'm a new android user. Got an G Pad a while ago and since I was not happy with the LG version of the OS I decided to flash a new ROM.
I've flashed the TWRP 2.6.3.2 following the instructions from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2551499
And pushed the CM 11 following the instructions from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565163
Everything seemed to work fine. Made a backpup. I wiped the data (factory reset from TWRP) and tried to install ROM from the zip file.
After a short wait I get a "Failed" message. THis is what it reads:
Code:
Checking for MD5 file...
Skipping MD5 check: no MD5 file found.
assert failed: run_program ("/system/bin/loki.sh") == 0
E:Error executing updater binary in zip '/sdcard/cm-11-20140105-NIGHTLY-v500.zip
Error flashing zip '/sdcard/cm-11-20140105-NIGHTLY-v500.zip'
Updating partition details...
I have been searching and reading all over XDA forum and google for a couple of days but without any success.
I hope you could help me on this one.
Thanks!

Hello guys,
I'm still struggling with this error message with no success. Can seem to find a solution and I have been reading almost every related post on the forum.
Could any of you point me in the right direction?

I would guess that you have flashed the wrong version of twrp.
I am under the impression that you need to flash the original twrp first, Then flash the update twrp zip.
You could do with having flashify on your tablet and use that to flash the original twrp, otherwise you will need to connect the tablet to a pc and use one of the two original methods to get twrp on your tablet.
Hope this helps, good luck

Thank you whoamigriffiths,
I'm using the twrp v2.6.3.2 and getting the same error. I also tried previous versions of the twrp with no success.
The most weird thing is that when I try to install the CWM Advanced Edition from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588671 I get the exact same error.
Any other insight about what I could try?
Thank you.

Well reading the error I've never seen an error mentioning loki.
You too could do with someone with far more experience than me helping you out.
That loki error makes me wonder if you have issues with root, hence why I thought it was an issue with twrp.
If you want a long evening you could just bite the bullet and start over again.
The last post in this thread looks like a good "how to "
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2622034
The idea is to go back to stock LG again, then root it again, then install twrp 2.6.3.1***(didn't realise 2.3.6.0 isn't there anymore) then update to 2.3.2, then flash cm11.
Now I am positive someone with more experience could get you up and running again much easier and far quicker than my suggestion.
But....... On the bright side you will gain valuable experience lol!! Which is what I usually tell myself after I have fooked up
Good luck,
And call me Rich(ard)
All the best
Further edit.
I knew there was a reason why you have to flash 2.6.3.1 first and that was to choose the code that matches your tablet. Read the first post in the twrp thread as well as the lokify bit.
Hope this helps

Thank you Richard.
It makes perfect sense. I'm trying your solution.
I'm trying to get the LG Mobile tool to work but keep getting a "low battery error". Even with the batteries at 100%.
I posted a question on the related thread and hopefully someone will be able to help me.
It's so annoying to have a useless tablet!

Meh still no luck?
I'm out of my depth with regard to the LG mobile tool as I've not used it. Perhaps try and get in touch with Curael as he's very helpful and is definitely more switched on than me.
I'm actually very surprised he hasn't jumped in to help you out already.

Hey Richard,
Yes still stuck. I can't get past this low battery error. I'm assuming the LG Mobile tool won't work for me. But I will contact Curael anyway, hopefully he will know some tricks.
I guess my best solution now will be trying to download a nandroid backup and restore it from TWRP. Of trying downloading and flashing a flash version of the stock ROM.
Do you have any idea where can I find these files?
Really appreciate your help mate.
Cheers

hi you could post your problem in twrp's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2551499, drgravy is very helpful and he is the one who knows better than anyone about twrp's errors. You could also change the recovery. Install philz advanced cwm and try flashing cm11 with this to check if that works for you. Now if everything else fails and you want to return back to stock the best way is the lg mobile support tool, follow the instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471370 or here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2590185

Hi hatsika,
I've been trying to go back to stock using the LG Mobile Tool method (I've tried several ays) and always get stuck on a "low battery" error. Even with the tablet fully charged.
I will try the advanced CMW later at home. Hopefully it will work. Will also post on the TWRP thread.
Thanks for the advices.

There's no such thing as a downloadable nandroid. Unless you have uploaded your own to Dropbox for instance.
The only way you can get a flashable stock rom is if a Dev on the forum made one for us.
You see this on the popular device forums after Android updates.
I missed this before but you say you made a twrp back up but you don't mention trying to restore it?

Hi,
yes, I did something stupid and ended up formatting the g pad by accident. Lost the backup files.
I was thinking about asking a friend that has a g pad to make a backup using TWRP and trying to restore on my g pad. But I'm not sure if it would work.
Thanks for the help.

Loosing the will ... Fast. Help Please Kind PPL.
Hi, I think I am having the same problem. I rooted, and then flashed TWRP openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-awifi using flashify app then tried the CM-11 and got the failed message.
I have been rooting and flashing ROM's since the HTC Hero, I am loosing the will very fast here with the LG G PAD 8.3. If someone could post instructions, on the easiest NOOB way to install a custom ROM on this device I would be very grateful, the information is just way to fragmented right now, because LG's interface on 4.2.2 is just rubbish, Nexus 5 GEL = Awesome and that's what I want. Not sure what to do at this stage, not even sure how to boot into Recovery with this device, its well difficult. Anyone want to help? Thanks in advance if you can. Sorry if I sound down in the dumps but never really struggled like this before, should have gone with my instinct and got Nexus 7 maybe.

Just a quick update I resolved by flashing 2.6.3.2 using a automated script from one of the other threads, I was then able to install CM-11. Thank goodness. All is OK.

so it looks like what happenned was, i was trying to install phandroid hybrid, in the directions it said wipe everything including system. So the recovery was looking at build.prop of my original rom and compaining it to the new rom to make sure it was the same, but was declining it. I fixed it by getting the newest touch recovery from CWM's site and flashing through Odin. I was using the toolkit.

[Q] Cannot flash rom!! Installation Aborted, help!

Just got my gs3 today and decided to root using this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746682
Not really so tech-savy with this yet and after the whole root process of odin3 i reboot into recovery, wipe/cache/dalvik then flash the new miui 2.10.19 http://miuiandroid.com/community/threads/2-10-19.18540/ one i hit flash it says installation failed blah blah blah (status 7) getprop. Yeah all that junk, so i searched up on the forums and the only solution i find is to update cwm and i have, to 6.0.1.4 and still same thing!! installation error, aborted. Can someone please help me out :crying: I'm sorry if im a noob, just trying to flash a rom here

How did you update to 6.0.1.4 when 6.0.1.2 is the latest version? And no, you don't need to re root. You don't need root to flash firmware.

Looking on the forums someone posted a link to download an updated 6.0.1.4 so I tried that since 6.0.1.2 wasnt working. There's gotta be something simple to fix that I dont know about, ive flashed and rooted my htc sensation and mytouch4g easy and never had installation failure when flashing. Can someone walk me through what exactly I need to be fully rooted and flash a rom!?
How could cwm not be working if its updated to latest version? I dont think im downloading the wrong rom and its not a bad link. Even tried dragging it onto my internal sd wirh debugging off. Btw I have the 32 gb s3 with does not have an external sd.
The way I fix that was I rerootes my phone into latest clockwork recovery. I didn't remove the root I just rerootee it. Look for cwr 6 I think.

From watching the video given for the toolkit, when in odin and have to open up pda then go to the toolkit files and then root all my files are in winRAR type and his are in tar archive type. Does that matter at all? And also when clicking on the pda then root you chose the file /boot-insecure-tmo-t99uvalem-cwm but when in odin and clicking this file on the little winrar icon to the left of the file name its the only one with a little like key lock, doesnt know if thats an issue or anything just something i noticed because when accessing the toolkit files on my c drive and going to the root folder, the key icon is no longer there.. Any ideas??
Reading about people flashing a kernal in recovery then flashing the rom and working but when you flash a rom isnt it flashing the kernal it comes with also? Or is this the problem
Well, I re ran the toolkit, re did the root and odin process same as i did the first time, downloaded rom straight from my phone flashed again still getting status 7 error/ installation aborted -______- ugh...

Look at my signature for the proper CWM. I don't know where you saw 6.0.1.4 for our device, but the main thread and the developers website show no sign of it. And download CM10 from get.cm, d2tmo. If you that doesn't work, you don't have a SGH-T999.
I can't believe I didn't see this before....what is the exact file name of the rom you are flashing?
I looked and did not see our phone listed in the op. Looks like the international one is there (codename m0?). But no d2tmo, d2att, etc.
Unless I just missed it there, you do not want to even try flashing that anymore! If I'm right you just got very lucky dude!

Glad you got it sorted out.
Just for the future though, never flash anything not built for the TMobile SGH-T999 (codename d2tmo). If you do flash an international GS3 rom it will brick your device. I think this woulda happened had the miui rom from the link in op actually flashed.

Root issues (moved from Virgin rom as requested) Help

I am trying to upgrade my Virgin ROM to the 9.12 build but get a fail upon trying to flash it. The background.... I'm using TWRP recovery and have tried the chainfire root method. Here are the results:
As you can see you can see some conflicting information... all shots were taken in sequence. I'm thinking the fail in twrp is coming from the system not having root but the info is telling me otherwise....

Do you have the latest SuperSU version?
I'm a little lost at what you are saying.
You flashed a rom, and it said fail, and you think it has to do with Root?
If you have TWRP installed it doesn't matter if you are rooted or not. It's going to over right the system partition regardless if you have root or not.
So it's either a bad download or bad transfer for it to fail.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk 4
I do have the latest SU version by chain fire. And maybe I'm doing something wrong the because I am running the virgin gpe ROM now and that flashed in twrp with no issues. Now when I go to install (after wiping) and select the 9.12 update that I downloaded it hangs on trying to open the zip and fails... I haven't changed any twrp settings but in the write options of twrp what boxes should be checked because system is not by default... Thanks for the replies!

If all else fails, just start from scratch, get stock UVUAMDL tar, flash it with Odin, make sure to do a factory wipe after you flash it, sometimes bootloops occur if you don't. You don't even have to go past the first screen where you pick the language. Just shut it down from there and boot into download mode and root with Chainfire with Odin, then shut down and boot up again into download mode again and flash custom recovery tar of ur choice with Odin. Then download whatever custom rom zip and install it via custom recovery.

heyyy saw your reply in my thread.
just as @byron1985 suggested there, it sounds like you got a bad download. the flashing scripts are essentially exactly the same from previous version. the flashing process has absolutely zero to do with SuperSU.
edit: re-read. so you've verified the download. if you had success with CWM previously, i would go back to that. i do not use TWRP.

[Q] Help with LG Optimus G Pro. Can't restore to stock!

Hi I am sorry if I sound new/n00b or completely dense.
This is my first android handset so please bear with me. I have an LG E980 from At&T and it was on 4.1.2 and I rooted it. I then installed CWM and a few other things I found on here after browsing for a few days. I currently am on the CM10.2 build and it is not good for signal at all. I keep losing LTE and it goes in and out.
So I want to unroot my phone and just restore to the original Rom that would have come with it. I have done multiple attempts at doing so.
I used the rom found here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2272177
As well as I have tried to use this one as well. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2361928
Neither work. I leave the name of the zip file as is and drag and drop it into the following folder clockworkmod/backup
when i boot into recovery i select the correct file and try to install it and to no avail. I keep getting install aborted or failed.
I was told to use Windows and the LG Suite? I am using a Mac. I install Windows and went about that way but the program kept freezing everytime. It was starting at the download process part and just sat there. I left it alone for almost 2 hours and it did nothing. I am getting very frustrated now. Does anyone have any idea what I can do short of just selling this phone and going back to crApple ifone?
If you can help me get this fixed I would be very happy! Any other information about the phone I can give you let me know!

S4 seems to be getting stuick on bootup of ROM & other issues

Hello and thanks to all those before me who give great advice on troubleshooting....
Here's my situation:
Phone is Rooted.
I downloaded an app a few days ago from the Play Store, so I could move my app installs to the sdcard. When i installed the app it said that there was something wrong " can't remember the exact message " and it needed to fix it. My dumbass allowed it to fix it and here is where my problems began.
Right after that I began receiving a message "Shell has been granted Super User", phone began to run sluggish and the Play Store App would always say it was crashing.
So I figured, screw it I would format and start w/a new ROM anyway.... I did not have any sort of backup (of course dumbass)
However I loaded up the latest version of Odin 3.09 and just incase I installed the root.zip again incase that was destroyed. Then I installed the latest version of OUDHS CWM-Based Recovery 1.0.3.3 ( Previously I had TWRP )
I downloaded a few different roms so I could see what I wanted...However...here's where things get interesting, and I did do some research on it but couldn't find a way to resolve the 1st problem.
When I first started to install a ROM, don't remember which one I was getting a signature verification failed....I had read that it could be 2 things, one the MD5 was bad, I verified that, so that wasn't the issue. Then I came across that it may have been a ROM that my device(Samsung) somehow knew wasn't approved, therefore prevented it from being installed....OK fine...
Next I found a ROM that was going to work via installing...So i picked the CM10.2 and wiped/format/davik/cache...etc... Installation took a few mins...Then when I rebooted, it's been on the Cyangenmod screen for 45 mins +....
Is there anyway I can do some verification that something further isn't interfering w/my installs?
Thanks in advance and any guidance is GREATLY appreciated...
Regards
Erik

Actually I tried that and I used this one from stockroms.net TMB-M919UVUAMDL-1366964131.zip
the verification failed immediately, however, when I checked it w/the MD5 hash on my computer it checks out...That's where I'm wondering if there is something else going on...
Or are you talking about something else regarding stock? If so could you clarify...Thanks
Use sam mobile.com
And flash the mdl fw from there. Also you may have to unzip the original file to get a tar file

Just wanted to say thank you for your help. Both the flashing the recovery back to default and the default ROM worked. Now in the future no more clicking yes when I don't have a backup
Have a great weekend!!
