Screen dead on arrival!! - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

Help!! Just got mine delivered and DOA I think.
It boots up, I can hear the boot sound. And by meticulously using a led flash light, I navigated through the sign up process. I thought the brightness was too low to see the screen. I can barely make out any words.
Finally afrer about an hour of watching youtube videos and knowing where to press, I completed the startup wizard. But when I put up the brightness to max, the screen does change brightness. It stays so dim that you wouldn't know it was turned on without looking at it with a bright light shining on it on an angle.
I tried accessibility options. Still no difference.
It is minus 10 outside. I'm thinking that it must have froze in the warehouse enroute, because I picked it up several days after I got the notice. Is the LCD screen damaged? What should I do now. I ordered it on eBay and the tablet is from malaysia.
Any way to fix the super dim screen? I flashed many roms on my Note 3. But I don't want to lose the warranty on this just yet.

Here is a picture. Auto brightness off. Screen brightness to max. Can barely see that it is on.

I'm going through Ebay resolution center now.

I had this problem after I dropped mine on vinyl floor luckily I had extra warranty through best buy and got it replaced(no crack screen either). I assume it probably knocked loose the screen connector.

From which ebay reseller did you buy it?

[Q] What's Gone Wrong w/ My Screen?

This morning I woke up to find my phone dead off the charger. I plugged it in to charge and went back to sleep. I woke up later and powered it up. Then I noticed an odd discoloration in the lower right side of my screen. A quick load of a webpage with a white background and sure enough I had some large yellowish blob discoloring my beautiful display on my T-Mobile Galaxy S II.
I haven't had this phone for more than two months so I called T-Mobile and they quickly issued a warranty replacement (it's in the mail). So, I ask you, what's wrong with this picture and has anyone else seen this on their phone?
(see attached picture of my screen)
I haven't seen that. Good that they replaced it. My screen has a dead pixel...can't really see it because its at the status bar and the signal icon is right on top of it, but I'm going to try to get it replaced. Hopefully they do as I haven't paid my bill yet.

Whoa that is crazy looking. Sorry about your phone! Never sen that before.
Possibly extensive exposure to UV light. (Sun)
UV damages the organic light emitting diodes. Almost instantly upon exposure.
They manufacture the screen in such a way that prevents UV damage. If they didnt, just using it in a naturally lit room could rape your screen. But maybe yours is flawed.

I have no idea what caused that, but the first thing I thought of was how crt monitors would look like that when I left an unshielded speaker (magnet) nearby..and I think I just showed my age.

Best guess is that it was an inherent flaw in the LCD that came out after being bumped or dropped? Either way, handset insurance took care of it and T-Mob waived the fees because it was only a week or two old at the time. They shipped me a new one overnight and I sent them the bad one back...
Mine had similar problem. Something impacted the screen I guess. At one point I could see a dark line in the blob. Figured it was a crack. But mine grew until it consumed the whole screen.

[AT&T] Uneven Screen Brightness?

Does anyone else have this issue with their GS3 screen? My screen is slightly dimmer on the bottom part of the phone, or maybe tinted blue. Because of this unevenness, it leads to an annoying gradient effect on nearly every website with a white/grey background. I talked to a AT&T rep in store, and he said that this was perfectly normal even though their display units didn't have this issue. Is this normal, or am I just being super picky?
Attached are some hastily taken pictures.
It's not normal. Insist on exchanging it, or go to another store.
Definitely not, have you dropped it? Or you bought it like that? Deff get it replaced

Thanks for the input guys, I'll hit another AT&T store and see what they have to say. And it hasn't been dropped or anything, it's been like that since day 1.
Did you manage to change your phone? I have the same problem with my international version.

I've had 4 phones in a row with this problem. I'm getting one more replacement (blue this time, not white), and then I'm jumping ship on the S3.

[Q]Question Regarding AMOLED Display [Particularly Black Spots]

Anyone see blackspots on their TMobile Samsung Note 2's in a dark setting?
EDIT:
Forgot to mention, to check for the black spots, set your phone to lowest brightness, then dial
*#0*#
LCD TEST
Select the Vibration Option, and wait for a minute for your display to adjust
You need to do this in a completely dark settings,
Observe Carefully, and then post your observation here,
Any Black Spots?
Posting Pictures using a DSLR camera would be great. I'm surprised Samsung has not resolved this AMOLED issue yet.
yeah i have like a little circle near the bottom right of the screen
I'm not seeing anything on mine... Here's a pic I took with my tablet.

Questions go in Q&A broheim.
I get that, but only on the Launcher. Especially the TW launcher.
its only on black and low brightness
Its pretty common almost every s3 or noteII will have some. But I was pretty picky when I first gone mine and since I work at t-mobile I replaced 3 phones until I got one that didnt have any.

Well I don't have black spots but I do have a cracked screen now :/
Insurance is giving me a new one on Tuesday. I'll check that once for the defect.

I noticed a black line on the left side of my screen when using the camera in low light. Was going to send the phone back for a new one but didn't want to have to put a new screen protector on. It doesn't effect any thing, only can see it with low light with the camera.
Any pictures showing the lines or black spots?
am I blind or am I the only one not seeing an option for black under that menu? I see red green and blue... don't see black.
Select Vibration, and the black screen will appear, let your eyes adjust for a few seconds in a completely dark setting then report your findings on this thread.

I'm new to the GS3 and I have noticed a defect on the screen.

I bought my s3 yesterday. and Last night going to bed I have to play with again. I noticed when I have all the brightest low I could see a lot of black dots on the screen and a lot of black lines on the bottom of the screen. Is it just mine or your is too? Again I had my lights off and put the brightest all the way down on the screen. Then try on your phone to get a black picture and you will see. I took a screenshot of it but I can only see these black stuff with low bright. If this is just me I may have to return this baby
Common issue with this phone. Also on the s2
Sent from Flip's S3
I also have the s2 and never noticed it
It's a common flaw with super amoled screens I believe
Here's a another thread on it

Its normal with most of the AMOLED screens. Doesn't really affect general useage unless you have OCD or something

i must be blind because i havent seen any defects on my s3. when i had the s2, there were a ton of blotches over the whole screen
No dots here

Yeah I noticed about the other thread. I got my phone yesterday and noticed it when I was in bed playing with it. I have the s2 t989 as well and that doesnt have the defect. I understand some of the old s2 have some defect on the screen color but this one is different. It looks like the digitizer was cracked. At the bottom it looks like a signature a bunch of black line and a lot of dots on the screen. Though when I put the brightest a little bit brighter its gone. It doesnt bother me. But This phone is new and it should not have any defect.
Common defect nbd. Not even close to how awful the backlight bleed was on my iPad 2 before I got it replaced.
I do Have the same issue but i'm not sure if goingto change my phone is under warranty!
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
known issue. However, my S3 doesn't have any or at least it is much much better than 2 my previous ones. (yes, I know how to check it and Im very picky; Im that kind of guy that goes to the closet to check the screen right after unboxing it). I didn't exchange my phone for this issue. i just happen to get a non-black dot one. Exchange it if you feel so. doesn't affect much tho.
This is on all OLEDs even mine, it is not defect and will not disrupt colors or brightness since they are visible only in pitch black, I don't even think they would replace your phone because of that

[Q] Help: dropped devise-screen not shattered, but display is black only how to fix

Thankfully i dropped my nexus7 with a poetic case that i got in the mail yesterday. The tablet screen looks ok (no cracks). the back of devise has a crack near the power button about the length of the camera cut out. there is also a slight crack near the camera about half the length of the camera cut out.
the devise will turn on, but all i can see is a "lit" blank screen. I can't see anything else. It just displays white light. can this be fixed and if so how?
Your backlight works still, but your LCD has either come loose internally, or you have broken it so that it will not display a screen :\

so if i were to repair it i would need to only buy a LCD screen? how to check if the LCD is loose internally? can you provide screen shots and or a vid of someone pointing out the location. LCD can become broken even with no cracks to the screen
tyvm
If you need screens, you may not want to attempt the fix. Its not terribly difficult, but you should have a general knowledge of hardware repair and electricity. Ifixit has a teardown
