Hi,
I'm trying to find the HDMI settings on my stock 4.4.2 Nexus 7 2013 but I can't seem to find it. I'm using a slimport adapter to hdmi out. According to this youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dh3kl1Ay8O0 ICS has an hdmi setting field but I can't seem to find it on my N7. Any ideas?
Thanks.
As far as I know...
The only settings I know of are Settings>Display>Cast screen. The old settings must have removed HDMI settings in Jelly Bean, or may have been exclusive to the ROM the author of that video had.

That sucks. Waste of battery/energy to drive two displays. Wish there were overscan settings too.

I have an EVO 4g & an HDMI cable. However, not sure how to get the video from the video to appear on the TV..
Hook small end of the hdmi cable into phone, then plug into tv, change the channel. Lol. Every tv has different settings so its going to be on one of the main like the channel you play games on or use it for cable or what. Just flip through your channel settings and make sure to check if anything poped up on your phone about it
On my tv anyway, I have to select input, then hdmi 3. Yours will depend on which hdmi hookup you used.

Are you stock, what ROM are you using?

Do you have an HDMI cable or a micro HDMI cable? (does one end fit into the phone?)
If your using a stock ROM with a stock kernel you will only be able to display video from youtube and the video app. To mirror the display from your phone you will need to flash a different kernel. This is assuming that you are rooted of corse. I like the plane old poonsense 2.2.3 kernel. Maybe there are better kernels out there, but this one has never given me any problems. I've tried others and they didn't play well with my phone. Get kernel manager in the play store, or marker or whatever it's called now. It will give you a list of compatible kernels for your phone.

The best evo kernel is lionfish. It has hdmi mirroring and great battery life. Made for sense roms

Im not on sense...Im using the MIUI ROM w/savage zen kernel 2.2.1 Its been the best performing ROM in every way for me. But when I connect the phone to the TV I get nothing...lol Do I need a separate program on my phone to make it work?

You need to have a kernel that supports hdmi out, not sure if that rom/kernel will work. The stock rom definitely works, as far as I know all custom kernels from the latest OTA don't have it working.
What app are you trying to stream from? You may need an HDMI mirroring app.
I am trying to watch sum movies thru QQ player. Is there a better video player on the market? Where can I get an HDMI mirroring app? I really dont want to go back to stock ROM...MIUI has been great.
bump anyone?
If you do not want to go back to stock entirely, investigate some of the dual boot methods. You can boot into another ROM watch your vids and boot back into Miui.
Can do the same without the dual boot specific steps by setting up the ROM that will play vids and nandroiding it,etc

If you want to do HDMI mirroring, I think you have to go back to a froyo 2.2 rom and use TeamWin HDMI mirroring app and kernel. Froyo is the last rom I heard that works on, I haven't seen anything that they got it working on GB.
What is the easiest and fastest way to get HDMI working? What ROMs supports it?
Any cm7 based rom works. Decks reloaded works amazing with HDMI.
Download the hdmwin app from the market and grant super user permission. Also download the v8 deamon that comes with it. Set the settings to route audio, CPU to max, keep screen on and make sure you plug it in when you are mirroring. You will need to restart after the initial settings of the settings. Plug in select mirror and if doesn't work right away take the cable out and plug it in again. It can be stubborn sometimes.
I use it all the time while having the evo synced to a wiimote to control it.
platinumPenguin i tried using HDMI win but it doesnt work..How did you get it working? ANd what is v8 deamon i dont see it in the market??

Guys I've been troubled to find a solution to subtitles in Netflix not showing thru HDMI on TV, that out of frustration I started poking around the settings and on the Developer section I found my answer.
If you want to get you subtitles shown onscreen, go ahead and select Disable HW Overlays in Developers Options.
That totally made the trick for me. Hope it works for you too.
Unfortunately is only for Jelly Bean, as the title indicates. Cheers!
perfect solution for displaying subtitles by MHL

I have a Galaxy N7000 with ICS 4.0.4 and at the Developer Option there is no "Disable HW Overlays" anywhere.
Any workaround?
Thanks in advance
Failed!...

Dear boolean22,
I own a Note 7000 and when trying to watch Netflix (from my Note to TV through HDMI) and could not read subtitles on TV screen even though they appeared on the screen of my device. I followed your wise advices and found what had to be disabled (Disable HW Overlays). Unfortunatle didn't work. Is there any other idea I could try to see subtitles?
Friendly regards,

Did you solve this? What's your version of Android?
I did what you suggest and the subtitles appear on my TV. But there is no more video on TV...
I looked around but didn't see anything. Really hoping I'm just missing something on here somewhere and there is a way to use HDMI out on desktop dock to stream superbowl onto a TV. ^^;
If you are talking about the Samsung portait dock with HDMI connector then yes, there is. You'll have to flash a custom kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1780481
I can't tell you which kernels have this mod build in but it says Franco's would work in the thread.
Need HD Netflix apk that runs on Note 2. HD please. Trying to get the app to output through hdmi MHL at full hd. Please help.
Unless it's official from Netflix I wouldn't trust it. A while back their was a virus from one of the hacked apk's.
Sent from my Amazing Galaxy Note 2!
I'm not aware of one. I think the MHL issue is in the Netflix APK code. It maybe with the HML itself or in TouchWiz.
the official one from the play store works great. Go into your netflix account settings on thier site and you can set the video quality to your device

actually, that setting is for all one's netflix linked devices. And the quality looks good on the GN2 display. It's the output via HDMI/HML on the display/TV you connect where it looks bad. I had that setting already and had the issue too.

Oh, okay sorry. I have no idea on how to up the output, I hope someone can help.
Thanks everyone. I think its a Netflix issues. The MHL works great with everything else.
I've been searching and haven't found an answer yet, I am looking for a way to play movies from my phone to the TV. I know there are ways to stream shows from netflix and hulu but I want to play movies that are physically on my sd card. I can do it with TW roms with my hdmi cable but I want to use an AOSP kitkat rom and haven't found a way to do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
There are quiet some apps like media house that will do it. VLC Player is another example. Some of the AOSP Roms have screen sharing baked in. So you could explore that as well.
Does screen sharing allow audio output? I forget exactly what I did but at one point I was able to mirror the screen but had no audio. I don't know anything about mediahouse, i'll look into that next. Thanks for the suggestions.
Have any of you tried something like this with an AOSP rom? It seems similar to what I already have so I'm wondering if it still needs touchwiz drivers to work?

Audio issues are typically due to incorrect Galaxy S2 adaptor or asian make copy is used. I will suggest to try samsung original as you linked.
I have not tried the device since my TV supports DLNA via an Android TV stick. See my signature.
