I have an EVO 4g & an HDMI cable. However, not sure how to get the video from the video to appear on the TV..
Hook small end of the hdmi cable into phone, then plug into tv, change the channel. Lol. Every tv has different settings so its going to be on one of the main like the channel you play games on or use it for cable or what. Just flip through your channel settings and make sure to check if anything poped up on your phone about it
On my tv anyway, I have to select input, then hdmi 3. Yours will depend on which hdmi hookup you used.

Are you stock, what ROM are you using?
---------- Post added at 03:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:48 PM ----------
Do you have an HDMI cable or a micro HDMI cable? (does one end fit into the phone?)
If your using a stock ROM with a stock kernel you will only be able to display video from youtube and the video app. To mirror the display from your phone you will need to flash a different kernel. This is assuming that you are rooted of corse. I like the plane old poonsense 2.2.3 kernel. Maybe there are better kernels out there, but this one has never given me any problems. I've tried others and they didn't play well with my phone. Get kernel manager in the play store, or marker or whatever it's called now. It will give you a list of compatible kernels for your phone.

The best evo kernel is lionfish. It has hdmi mirroring and great battery life. Made for sense roms

Im not on sense...Im using the MIUI ROM w/savage zen kernel 2.2.1 Its been the best performing ROM in every way for me. But when I connect the phone to the TV I get nothing...lol Do I need a separate program on my phone to make it work?

You need to have a kernel that supports hdmi out, not sure if that rom/kernel will work. The stock rom definitely works, as far as I know all custom kernels from the latest OTA don't have it working.
What app are you trying to stream from? You may need an HDMI mirroring app.
I am trying to watch sum movies thru QQ player. Is there a better video player on the market? Where can I get an HDMI mirroring app? I really dont want to go back to stock ROM...MIUI has been great.
bump anyone?
If you do not want to go back to stock entirely, investigate some of the dual boot methods. You can boot into another ROM watch your vids and boot back into Miui.
Can do the same without the dual boot specific steps by setting up the ROM that will play vids and nandroiding it,etc

If you want to do HDMI mirroring, I think you have to go back to a froyo 2.2 rom and use TeamWin HDMI mirroring app and kernel. Froyo is the last rom I heard that works on, I haven't seen anything that they got it working on GB.
What is the easiest and fastest way to get HDMI working? What ROMs supports it?
Any cm7 based rom works. Decks reloaded works amazing with HDMI.
Download the hdmwin app from the market and grant super user permission. Also download the v8 deamon that comes with it. Set the settings to route audio, CPU to max, keep screen on and make sure you plug it in when you are mirroring. You will need to restart after the initial settings of the settings. Plug in select mirror and if doesn't work right away take the cable out and plug it in again. It can be stubborn sometimes.
I use it all the time while having the evo synced to a wiimote to control it.
platinumPenguin i tried using HDMI win but it doesnt work..How did you get it working? ANd what is v8 deamon i dont see it in the market??

Does anyone know if HDMI works out the box on any of them, You dont need a special kernel to use HDMI out.... I watch movies on my TV all the time with the gallery.
Which Rom are u looking at, any of the roms based off the EVO software hdmi should work, a lot of the cm roms have working hdmi, the ports probably won't have hdmi unless the phone it was ported from had hdmi,
You might want put what kind of Rom ur looking for like gingerbread with sense 2.1 and working hdmi, (don't think that exists) although I got my phone recognizing hdmi I can't get the phone to output anything, one of these days I will dig into the logcat and see if I can find anything useful

I'm trying to get Netflix to display on TV via HDMI output. Got a HDMI cable - and but no picture to HDTV when running the app on phone.
I did a google search - and read that the app needs to enable HDMI on this phone? Being that this is a new cable - I don't know if Netflix app enables HDMI on this phone - or if I have a bad cable that I need to swap out - or if I'm trying to do something with this phone - that it's just not capable of doing.
1) Does Netflix display via HDMI - with unrooted Evo 4G
2) Does Netflix display via HDMI with rooted EVO 4G
3) Is there a known app that works with HDMI - so I can test to see if my cable is any good?
Thanks

1) No, must have a kernel installed that supports HDMwIn. It'll mirror your phone, so that anything that you see on your screen will appear on your HDTV. I'm running CM7 with Tiamat kernel and am able to watch netflix with the cable.
2) Yes/No, the Evo was limited by the manufacturer so you'll need to use HDMwIn. Again, you'll still need a supported kernel. But now that you're rooted, you can flash the kernel.
3)HDMwIn. It works.
btw, I got my cable for $6, so you don't have to spend a grip

If your on a sense 2.3 rom then you cannot use HDMwIn. Must be aosp 2.3 or sense 2.2

Anyone know why HDMIWin doesn't support the newer ROMs, or if there are plans to support sense 3.0 based ROMs on android 2.3?
Does flashing a different kernel work with synergy RLS1?

Agraben is working on the kernel fixes needed for HDMI on Gingersense roms.

I can not find this info anywhere. Most likely I can't do this. I would like to use my old EVO like this macbook>stream to EVO>HDMI cable>TV. If this can be done, can it be HD?
And this is why questions go in the Q&A forum.

Hello, I have a few dummy Evo 4gs. Not active on cell network
I want to use it to play YouTube videos on my big screen led with HDMI.
Can someone point me to a working ron that does HDMI output mirroring?
Ideally I would like a fully baked rom. Something I can flash and HDMI mirroring will work for YouTube playing.
Anyone got any recommendations?

Why would you stream from your macbook to your evo and then to the TV instead of doing the Macbook straight to the TV?? You can stream from a macbook straight to the tv OR from your evo straight to the TV but not both
I would also like to use my old EVO as a media center. I know XBMC is fairly android-friendly these days. Download and install an APK.
I went and bought a new micro-HDMI cable on Amazon so in a few days and I'll post back with my findings.
My EVO is currently running a CM7 nightly from November.

just use plex or xbmc to get things streaming to the phone
once it streams to the phone, all you need to do is download an app called hdmi win from the market, start hdmi win, start your plex/xbmc app, plug the phone into the tv, boom you're good
the audio is always a little funky though
I got my HDMI cable in and installed XBMC. Using the program HDMIWIN I am able to mirror the device to my TV. The settings allow me to output to the TV at 1280x720 and the TV confirms that it is receiving a 720P signal. In the settings of the XBMC app, I am not able to change the resolution at all from 800x400. The phone itself is stuck at it's native resolution so I don't know if it is actually sending a 720P picture along the wire.
I am thinking that for standard definition media, this would be a good use of a retired EVO but if you're looking for any HD goodness, you'll probably have to use a different device.
I looked around but didn't see anything. Really hoping I'm just missing something on here somewhere and there is a way to use HDMI out on desktop dock to stream superbowl onto a TV. ^^;
If you are talking about the Samsung portait dock with HDMI connector then yes, there is. You'll have to flash a custom kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1780481
I can't tell you which kernels have this mod build in but it says Franco's would work in the thread.
I've been searching and haven't found an answer yet, I am looking for a way to play movies from my phone to the TV. I know there are ways to stream shows from netflix and hulu but I want to play movies that are physically on my sd card. I can do it with TW roms with my hdmi cable but I want to use an AOSP kitkat rom and haven't found a way to do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
There are quiet some apps like media house that will do it. VLC Player is another example. Some of the AOSP Roms have screen sharing baked in. So you could explore that as well.
Does screen sharing allow audio output? I forget exactly what I did but at one point I was able to mirror the screen but had no audio. I don't know anything about mediahouse, i'll look into that next. Thanks for the suggestions.
Have any of you tried something like this with an AOSP rom? It seems similar to what I already have so I'm wondering if it still needs touchwiz drivers to work?

Audio issues are typically due to incorrect Galaxy S2 adaptor or asian make copy is used. I will suggest to try samsung original as you linked.
I have not tried the device since my TV supports DLNA via an Android TV stick. See my signature.
