[SOLVED] [JB] Netflix subtitles thru MHL. - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Guys I've been troubled to find a solution to subtitles in Netflix not showing thru HDMI on TV, that out of frustration I started poking around the settings and on the Developer section I found my answer.
If you want to get you subtitles shown onscreen, go ahead and select Disable HW Overlays in Developers Options.
That totally made the trick for me. Hope it works for you too.

Unfortunately is only for Jelly Bean, as the title indicates. Cheers!

Dear boolean22,
I own a Note 7000 and when trying to watch Netflix (from my Note to TV through HDMI) and could not read subtitles on TV screen even though they appeared on the screen of my device. I followed your wise advices and found what had to be disabled (Disable HW Overlays). Unfortunatle didn't work. Is there any other idea I could try to see subtitles?
Friendly regards,

[SOLVED] [ICS] Netflix subtitles thru MHL.

:good: Thx to these two post I have been able to watch Netflix with subtitles over MHL-HDMI on my Galaxy Nexus running ICS stock 4.2.2. I use a 24' Dell monitor, that has minijack out, so the sound is playing from my stereo with nice speakers
I take no credit for the solutions below, and I appreciate that others has made solutions that work for me :good: thx.
Developer option on ICS
First you need to activate the "developer option" wich Google has removed on the ICS. This is the funny part
1. Open Settings and go to "About phone"
2. Scroll to the buttom, and tab "Build number" exactly seven times. And yes!! it does count down for you
3. You now have the "Developer option" enabled under settings.

screen mirroring and video streaming to HDTV?

I am looking to find a good device that's compatible with my 10.1 2014 edition Note, and will stream video, along with screen mirroring if possible, all to my HDTV. I have a 32" Samsung smart TV that does this flawlessly but I want to also be able to do this with my 42" Panasonic Plasma TV (It has USB ports but does not appear to have DLNA or any method of streaming video since it does not have wifi built in.) I know there's the Samsung brand Allshare device, but I've heard quite a bit of negative feedback about it. Ultimately I want something that will be reliable, and will also stream 1080p video. I saw that there are various Miracast devices, but many that I have seen do not have especially great reviews. I saw that the Roku devices can send video to an HDTV but it seems that they only do this with select Android devices, and I wasn't able to find a list of compatible devices on the Roku.com website. Lastly I was also thinking that I could possibly stream video to my Panasonic TV if I got a wifi USB stick, but I'm not sure if this would allow DLNA/video streaming. Any help with finding a device for my tablet that would allow me to stream video to my TV would be most appreciated.

I've the AllShare Cast Hub and if work well with Note 10.1.
Better than using S3 or S4. With them I've a lot of random disconnections.
Unfortunately AllShare Cast Hub stream only at 720p ancd not at 1080p. On the box I can read 1080p, but I've NEVER got this kind of connection with S3, S4 or Note 10.1.
Thanks for the reply. I'll definitely consider the Allshare box, although I may just go with a hard wired MHL2 connection since I really want to get 1080p.
Just found this IOGEAR box that isn't released till 12/20/2013, yet it looks like it may be exactly what I'm looking for! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815290053
Guess I'll have to wait till its released to see how it performs, and if it works well with my tablet.
It's not screen mirroring, but have you checked out Google Chromecast? I don't have one, but it looks promising and may be the simplest and cheapest solution for what you're looking for.
Do you have a Samsung smart tv? I have a 6500 and my s4 and this note 10.1 2014 screen mirrors fine in 1080. It may be the TV you have? If you don't have a Samsung smart TV the the All share hub is likely what you're looking at to achieve your goal.

I tried the Chromecast and wasn't satisfied. On lifejacket there's a good article about the pros and con's http://lifehacker.com/google-chromecast-does-it-deserve-a-place-in-your-livi-945082974
I think a Roku will be a good solution for many people, but if you take time to read about all the miracast products you may find a really good and inexpensive way to do it.

I got the Netgear Push2tv, had it for a few days and returned it. Even with the latest firmware it frequently disconnected. I just got that iOgear box I linked above and it works flawlessly, all in 1080p.
I have been looking for a way to connect my note to my TV. My TV is 4 years old and not smart lol. So this IOGear box just streams files? or does it mirror the tablet on the tv? I use VLC player on my note. Is the playback sluggish or fast enough to watch large files?

I have an older plasma Panasonic that is somewhat "smart" but doesn't have built in wifi. The ioGear will work with just about any tv but I definitely needs an hdmi input, and I believe a usb input. Streaming runs beautifully even when running 1080p video files that are over 2 GB. I use MX player (the free version.)

Does this support full screen sharing of just transmission of movies and pictures like all share. Could I for example share BBC iplayer or a video running inside the Firefox browser?

Apple TV Mirroring?

I'm glad I got my Amazon Fire TV, it's working out really well, especially for XBMC.
However, one key thing I'm missing now (since I sold my Apple TV) is the ability to Airplay Mirror. I was looking for an alternative in reading some of the posts we have so far. I came across someone successfully using Air Receiver, but I wasn't able to get access to the APK.
At any rate, if anyone has any thing they've done to successfully get an Airplay Mirror alternative to work, I'd love to hear about it. Thanks.
I believe some people are using AllCast. I haven't tried it yet, but it seems to be working fine.
I'm looking for something similar but will allow multiple people on the network to send YouTube videos into a queue on the FireTV from their phones. This is all I use the Chromecast for now and I'm trying to eliminate the need for the Chromecast.
Edit: Apparently AllCast does YouTube queuing like the Chromecast. Sweet.
AirPlay DLNA
Search Airplay/dlna on the google app store
That should do it for you. I was looking for the same thing.
A review of it on the Ouya here:

There is no way to currently cast a chrome browser tab or the computer screen to it like you can with Chromecast. I need that ability and still use the Chromecast for it. Otherwise, I would have removed the Chromecast and just gone with the FireTV. I currently have both.
I see that allcast could work, but it doesn't support mirroring which is really what I'm after.
Spelvin, I can try what you've suggested. I'm not sure how to get the apk to the fire tv though, I can't get apk's off my phone, I'm not rooted. Guess I'll have to root.

AirPlay Mirroring does not work

Hi everyone.
I'm running the latest build of SPMC on my FireTV (not rooted), but when I try mirror my iPad screen to it, nothing happens. The status bar turns blue to indicate mirroring is working, but nothing comes up on SPMC. I've turned on AirPlay in the SPMC settings, so that can't be it. Would really appreciate some help
Thanks

From what I understood, airplay has been broken since iOS 7 and Mavericks in XBMC. I'd recommend using an app like Reflector to do airplay- it works flawlessly, but isn't free. You can see a demo of it at the end of my tutorial video here.
Thanks for the help mate. Unfortunately I cannot root my FireTV (UK user here), is that a problem?
Try AirPlay/DLNA Receiver Pro. It works fine on the FireTV. Only crypted streams are not supported.
I am using AirReceiver from the AAS and it works flawless but some Videos from Youtube fail.
I also use AirPlay/dlna receiver pro and it works great!
Youtube doesn't work because it is encrypted but I thinknjts the same with a genuine appletv
If you use the jasmine app on your iPad/iPhone , then youtube will work fine.
Thanks for all the suggestions! Do these apps allow me to AirPlay mirror my iOS screen, or are they only for airplaying multimedia?

The app I mentioned is able to run from startup automatically, doesn't need root and it supports full proper mirroring as well as showing photos/videos
On your iPhone/iPad just select the firetv in the AirPlay section. Once you connect there will be an extra button underneath to turn on mirroring.
Mirroring has lower general image quality so if viewing photos /videos I'd leave mirroring off.

[Q] Live TV and Kodi via TVHeadEnd

Hello
When I use the Live TV via Kodi, as soon as I change the channel, it crash
Since logs are better than randoms word, here the full log of kodi, where I simply launched Kodi 14 and started streaming TV (to make sure it's as clean as possible) : http://pastebin.com/z1Ly3zxL
Anyone has an idea to fix that?
Thanks
Try to use different PVR client or switch to SPMC. Works there for me.
Try the hts addon I posted on the kodi forums...

It work, but it's not really usable as a solution, CPU get overloaded and video drop frames: http://i.imgur.com/qYRBVTd.jpg , however it would indicate a problem with the hardware video decoder, in that case, out of luck for me, no chance of fixing it without at least having root.

It's a boring but not critical issue, the TV is working fine as long as you don't change channel. beside, it might still be fixable by adding a delay to the channel switch. I know TVHeadEnd is a bit special (I also had issue on the Pi (RPi 1 B 256MB Ram) that I needed a proxy to fix.)
Does the CPU get overloaded if you just turn off libstagefright? What doesn't work if you do? (I don't even know what it does.)

I've tried turning off libstagefright on my FireTVStick and it seems to work most of the time - occasionally the audio and picture go out of sync on the BBC HD channels* and quick channel change fixes it for a while. Alas, as with Kodi on my Nexus 7 and Z1 Compact Kodi just exits on it's own occasionally (presumably memory management). With stagefright on the picture was awful (3-4 fps). This is with TVHeadend connected to a DVB-S2 Sat>IP Tuner (via HomePlugs), a DVB-T2 USB tuner and 2xDVB-T USB tuners.
I have to point out that I've used it massively as it's connected to the same TV as my media centre PC (was more interested in seeing if the stick would be a viable alternative for the Raspberry Pi in the kitchen), and well the Fire TV Stick has only been available for two days!
* Not seen this on BBC ONE East Midlands SD or any other SD channel, or indeed Channel 4 HD. The BBC HD channels are rather high bit rate and didn't work properly on my Pi before over-clocking that so might be hitting the limits of what is possible here too.
