I was bone stock never rooted with factory rom . downloaded odin cwm and jedi x9 , flashed cwm via odin got the green pass went into recovery and it said android system recovery not cwm recovery like im used to tried to flash x9 and signature verification failure went back to choose a package to install and now have a blue progress bar moving extremely slow.
I never rooted or reverted to stock before on this device. everything I outlined again was from a factory rom device that has never previously been rooted.
is this all corect what im seeing?
You need to root first, if you havent already, and if your not rooted then
A) if you have already installed the lastest OTA (patching the xploit) then you need to verify the "new way" of rooting for your device variant
B) if you havent installed the patched OTA then you can root various ways with ODIN+files or there are even toolkits to simplify a variety processes
Once your rooted then you can titanium backup all your apps n data, then odin CWM or TWRP, use either custom recovery to nandroid back up your stock rom, then flash jedi x9
Essentially, unless the new OTA xploit Patch has changed the root process for you device variant, you will be flashing a stock-root_injected rom (that has SuperSU, etc)... use a "root checker" to make sure youre rooted

Fixed Thanks guys . I had " auto reboot " checked on Odin during CWM flash UNCHECK AUTO REBOOT or flashing CWM wont work .
I recently flashed the official 4.3 update that came out a few days ago. I have clockwork mod recovery and I flashed the supersu zip, which failed to work. I then flashed cf auto root via odin and now it says super su has stopped working when I try to gain root access. I really need root access because I back up my app data via helium backup (GREAT app btw). Please help! Thanks :crying:
Hey guys,
I know there are tons of Superuser apps and root methods such as cf autoroot but I'm hoping someone knows is how to root the S4 (SGH-M919) and have Koush's Superuser.apk be your SU client. I don't want to use Chainfire or SuperSU or anything else. It seems 4.3 for me will only accept SuperSU but I was hoping to use the CWM Superuser as I do on all of my other devices. Would hate to have a different SU just on this one device. Any ideas on how to get superuser.apk working on 4.3 on the S4 (Stock, custom recovery, rooted with SuperSU for now).

Android 4.3 (MK2 full with KNOX through ODIN)

Method 1
Use Odin to install a custom recovery of your choice.
Boot to recovery.
Flash any Superuser.apk you want.
Using Odin to install the recovery won't root the current ROM. It will just give you a custom recovery. From the custom recovery you can install anything you want, including the Superuser.apk of your choice.
Method 2
Root it using whatever root method works even if it installs SuperSU.
Uninstall SuperSU through the 1 click feature in the app.
Boot to your custom recovery. (Will NOT be automatically installed with CF Auto Root. You will have to flash a recovery after rooting)
Flash Superuser.
Reboot. Enjoy goodness.

Hey SkipJacks! Thanks for the quick reply. Method 2 seems to be the closest for me but it seems to be a no go with Koush's SuperUser. It looks like it relies on some binaries that never download and it won't use the ones that SuperSU installs. I guess I'm gonna have to use SuperSU for now. Thanks again. I just prefer Koush's to Chains and Chainfires. Everything was working fine on 4.2.2 but from 4.3 on it's only been SuperSU.
I'm beginning to think it's broken as many people are saying the same thing.
i cant get my stock ROM rooted i been trying to root my SM-N900T for the last 2 nights. ive tried CF-Auto Root and update-SuperSU threw CWM. i did get the CWM recovery installed with out a issue i just cant get it rooted. i want to put on a new ROM. can i just cut out the root and go straight to the ROM i want with CWM?
Cf auto root is flashed through Odin, not CWM. I started with cf auto root through odin, then twrp through odin, then roms through twrp.
