With all the new awesome 4.4.x roms coming out I thought it would be nice to have an easy way to install CWM Recovery since some of the newer roms don't play well with TWRP. For some reason I wasn't able to get CWM Recovery to stick when trying to install through the ROM manager app. It worked after making a zip and flashing in my old recovery. Hopefully this helps some people out.
Thank the developer of CWM and of the roms that make our phones pretty awesome.

Cool ?

CWM touch recovery is rubbish!!
Totally agree, but on a device with 480x800 it's awsome. BTW another great recovery is 4EXT

Oh well, this recovery is good enough for me and I can keep updating it with the one from the hero cdma
We could probably get these images sharper or something, it looks awsome but there is some enhancement to do. I S-OFFed my device so im free to flash everything. Im gonna try to make this more beautifull on our heros
EDIT. Can someone confirm that when you flash a .zip it reboots recovery ?
Found another bug, when you are backuping and/or flashing .zips the log doesnt start a new line when it runs out of space
Been a while since i updated my device so i wanted to try out the new 4.4. I see that i needed CWM 6.0.4.3 and i only have 6.0.3.0. I downloaded Rom manager and installed the update that way and Rom manager says its is running the 6.0.4.3 but when i go to the recovery it says the old version is still running and gives me the expected error when i try to flash the 4.4 ROM. I also tried to download the the update file and flash that in recovery and it didn't work either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. It probably something simple and i will feel like an idiot when someone chimes in........

I updated mine yesterday from the rom mananger and had no problems.
1 thing you should know before you go and try the 4.4 kitkat is that sd card isnt showing. I love the rom but cant get to anything on my sd card.
Good luck.

Just a Rule of Thumb. It is advisable to flash Recoveries with ODIN. I am very well aware you can use Rom Manager or Goo Manager, but this is just a thumb rule for flashing the Recovery Partition.
Also note, flashing wrong Recovery can cause hard brick.

Hi all. I'm on the i9305 and want to flash latest recovery for kitkat. I'm on philz recovery and wondered if there was one of his I could use. I searched xda but I couldn't find anything. Also I couldn't find an Odin (tar) file for normal cwm. Omni and cm only have the zip and IMG files.

I did do this update via oden. Also flashed Phil's recovery from there. This is where i tried to flash the 4.4 gapps to fix the issue with no luck.
Please post a log of the error when you tried to flash CM Kitkat. If you can't pull the log file, take a photo.
I'm rooted on stock 4.1 but i didn't have a custom recovery so I flashed cwm rom manager. I was able to make a nandroid backup fine but when I tried rebooting in to the recovery, it would just take me to stock recovery. How do I fix this? Thanks, in advance!

For some phones, it seems Rom manager doesn't flash the recovery properly. Just like Goomanager, for me, will not flash TWRP at all. I prefer to flash it using MSkips Toolbox or ODIN by itself if you know how. If you use the toolbox, it will be an older version of CWM, but after you flash the older version and make sure it works by rebooting your phone into recovery, then you can flash the newest version of either CWM or TWRP in ZIP format HERE. ODIN can be tricky for some who've never used it before. The Toolbox automates this process for you.

Thanks for the help! I didn't know about goomanager until you mentioned it, and it happened to work perfectly for me so I don't have to go through all the trouble

If you prefer CWM, give Philz Touch a try, it is a very advanced version of CWM, and works great for a lot of users, myself included. There are flashable .zip files for Philz and CWM, if you install both on your SD card there is no harm in switching to Philz in order to check it out, you can then easily flash back to CWM if you want.

P.S. Knowing how to use Odin is a valuable skill, nothing wrong with having an app perform a task like installing a custom recovery as long as you also know the more "nuts and bolts" approach.
I was just curious if anyone on here has tried using flashfire with the gt3? not really any need since there are plenty of working recovery's but its just a program i have found myself using quite a lot on the S5 and i have grown quite fond of it.
i haven't messed around with my tab 3 yet just started looking in to it and it seems like a lot of threads have been shut down, im looking to flash pimpdroid and it recommends that you use moonbutts philz recovery but there are no longer any instructions for installing the philz recovery so I'm not sure how to go about it, if anyone has any idea please let me know. for twrp you just flash in odin but the philz recoverys are .zip not .tar.
i have never heard of moonbutts philz recovery do at own risk but I recommended a wide birth happy flashing has been known to cause tears and outbursts of rage

My recovery builds are reliable and function well. Red, are you using flashfire for a reason? [no windows os/odin?]
That being said @nels83 is currently managing rom and recovery developement for the tab 3 10.1.
check out his work/thread for the up to date alternative [TWRP]
I don't use flashing apps, i do everything initially by odin and afterwards by command line.
If flashfire needs the image to be recovery.img then just extract the odin flashable tar for your device model and you'll have the recovery.img.

KINDLY HELP ME....!!
There is no need to root a phone before installing a custom recovery such as CWM or TWRP.
I would use TWRP in place of CWM as CWM is no longer being developed.
If you install Cyanogen recovery, it will replace your existing recovery. I find TWRP to be more flexible that Cyanogen recovery.
LP Cyanogen is cm13 and you should use TWRP to install cm13 ROMs. The AT&T s3 i747 is also known as the d2lte and d2att. ROMs designed for either of these two devices will work on your phone (although maybe not 100%). There is no official CM13 ROM for the s3.
@audit13 , just a quick question ; (because am certainly not as up to date with the wonderful s3) but isnt cm13 MM ? or am i wrong:what:

My bad, yes, MM is CM13, LP is cm12.1. Thanks for catching my mistake
I guess I'm spending too much time bouncing between the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Note 3, s3, and s4 forums!
I came across the different threads about bootloader...i have the bootloader version (I747UCUFNE4).Is that safe to flash the CM-12.1-20160212-NIGHTLY-d2att.zip on my above specified device without bricking my device????
Cm does not touch the bootloader or modem so you should be fine but there is always the chance the something else goes wrong.

somethng what??????????
Power failure, corrupted file, phone becomes disconnected during s flash, etc.
how is it that i use CWM touch recovery to flash above said lollipop and its image....?is it ok for me to do so???can i choose both the above said cm-12.1-20160212-NIGHTLY-d2att.zip and cm-12.1-20160212-NIGHTLY-d2att-recovery.img at same time to install lollipop on my d2att??
I am saying CWM touch recovery because TWRP manager hangs installing the latest recovery on my device may b it is because of i use ROM manager firstly to install the latest CWM recovery?
please give the guide of simple steps on this thing......

@ audit13
i believe what @audit13 said was CWM is no longer being developed. twrp recovery is preferred by most people because they are still making it better. CWM hasnt an update in years.
also if you currently have cyanogen recovery it will be wiped by flashing either CWM or twrp.
yes you can use CWM to install CM12. but again ; twrp has more options and most people prefer it.
so ..... i personally would use twrp to install anything before i used cwm.
remember to make a backup of current setup just in case something goes wrong so that you can still have a working phone.

Thanks for the guidance....because of both of you i able to flash the lollipop on my D2att without damaging or bricking...thanks alot again @audit13 @mrrocketdog :good::good::good::good::good::victory::victory::victory::angel:
