Hard brick resolved - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I finally have everything working again. I had the phone booting via the "unbrick" SD card last night but every attempt with 2 different MJB zip files failed. I eventually just found this one http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23212708291681451by @loserskater and tried it and it worked. I can boot without the SD again. I did donate to him as a thanks.
First I followed this thread (and read through Mr x's thread as well) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2549068
I was then able to boot the phone via the special SD card.
I then kept fighting with trying to get it to boot without the SD card. Since I could get to download mode I again ran CF-autoroot and I flashed TWRP 2.6.3.0 via ODIN. I kept booting to recovery and could not get either MJB bootloader that I found to work. I did get a status 6 when I tried CWM which indicated a syntax error or formatting error. I eventually found the zip file below and that worked via TWRP and then I was set.
I hope I remember everything - I was up until 4am and then didn't get a lot of sleep so I'm a little "fuzzy" now...
I will try to clean this up later for other's reference.
Edit 4: I can now get to TWRP by booting via an SD card with the unbrick file. I can also get into download mode. I tried flashing the MJB bootloader zip file via TWRP but it keeps failing. What is the next step to correct the bootloader problem if I had MJB and flashed the MJ2 bootloader (yes that was dumb...). How can I get the MJB bootloader files onto the EMMC again?
Help! I have flashed custom ROMs hundreds of times on my Captivate, Note, and Note2. My wife's S3 has been stock and had the OTA 4.3 update. After a few attempts, I did get root and TWRP 2.6.3.0 installed. I installed this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2075639- was able to update SU and restored user some apps via TB. The "about device" still showed "enforcing and she had the MJB bootloader. I rebooted to recovery and again ran the "Knox removal script" which I had run a few times already. This time I ran it and then flashed the MJ2 bootloader from the OP. I can't get it to turn on now. I pulled the battery - no luck. I plug it into my laptop and I hear the sound of windows recognizing the device but it doesn't show up. If I leave the battery out and plug into the PC, then the red LED flashes. If it was my device I would be bummed but being my wife's phone, I really am hoping someone can help...
Edit: I have been trying the 3 button recovery and download options with no luck.
During my captivate days, I used a "JIG" for getting into download mode but am concerned even that won't help if there is a bootloader mismatch or something like that.
Edit2: Even though I have a black screen, I tried using ODIN and connected the phone and it says "added"! I will now look for a full bootloader flash via ODIN
Edit3: It seems like if I have the battery removed, hold the vol. down and home and then plug in the cable, ODIN recognizes it so I have a ray of hope but am still a bit "panicked". I am looking for a full MJB firmware flash via ODIN

Did you try and reboot into recovery (not download) and flash the MJB bootloader??? that is what worked for me.

That is what I have tried multiple times but it keeps saying failed. Can you send me a link to the exact zip file you used? Did you do anything such as flashing anything right before (supersu update), etc? I am very hopeful now knowing that you were able to get it to work.
Edit: I have a couple of .zip files that are supposed to apply the MJB bootloader files. One of them @loserskater posted comes up with a status 6 which I am researching now.
What recovery did you use TWRP or CWM? I've been trying both.

no, I mean what procedure.. did you finally get the file to go with TWRP?
I assume thats what you did, but I wanted to be sure. The procedure aught to be a sticky.

[Q] CWM not replacing Android Recovery after newest OTA update / Lost Root

I recently purchased this SGS3, installed CWM and rooted it. Everything was going great - but then i was offered the most recent OTA update, so i reflashed the stock recovery via Odin, did the update which is:
4.0.4
T999EVLH2
same kernel
bld #: IMM76D.T999EVALH2
now, its saying the phone is no longer rooted (yet superSU is still there) but checkroot is saying that it isnt rooted, and no matter what i do, flashing CWM via Odin passes, but will not stick (as in, i boot into recovery mode and that damned stock recovery is STILL THERE, wtf?)
can anyone offer any assistance or insight into my issue.
Thanks
~Wikkid
Flash CWM v6. If that alone doesn't fix it, disable auto reboot in Odin, after flash, reboot phone manually into recovery mode.

thats the version i've been using. tried to redownload, both touch and regular versions. tried disabling autoreboot and manually rebooting into recovery mode, but the recovery mode remains stock recovery. super weird.

Can you describe for me, in the greatest detail possible, how to reproduce your exact problem?
I've done it countless times in the past days, and it has worked every time.

as have i, for myself and for others - this is the first time an Odin flash says pass but simply wont take.
Like i said, i flashed stock recovery onto phone using Odin3 1.78 while in download mode
rebooted and took OTA update a few days ago
now i tried to flash multiple versions of CWM v6, touch and regular using Odin and everything looks good, it says pass and everything.
when i reboot into recovery mode by holding powerup, home, and power - it takes me into stock recovery still.
its as if the recovery is either not being written to the right place or it is loading from another location on the device. i dont know how to make this issue happen on a phone, ive never seen it happen before myself. which is why i come to the pros seeking help - im no n00b myself, but i certainly am no developer.

now THAT version of CWM worked, dunno why the one's i had worked a couple days ago and now they wouldn't, and even the ones that i downloaded fresh - must have been the wrong versions.
for the record, i did have Odin3 3.07 also, and i tried using that one as well, so it must have needed the newest CWM, which i obviously wasnt downloading. thanks alot mate!

found what was probably causing the issue too - as you first suspected, but in greater detail on how to avoid this in the future:
"Apparently for those who have ran the official update by samsung are having this issue where the stock recovery is overwriting CWM recovery after reboot. Here is how to fix the issue. Credit to Max from Galaxys3root
You will need to rename or delete these two files.
/system/recovery-from-boot.p
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
I just renamed them. I'm thinking once there is a offical update such as jelly bean that I want to update too ill just rename them back so the stock recovery will reload and allow the update."

Thanks a bunch for that information, I've been trying to get the CWM to stick and was getting extremely frustrated with it reverting after every boot. Deleting these files fixed it and I now have CWM v5.5.0.4 installed and surviving a couple boots. It took a few tries to delete the files, though, finally used ES file explorer and went in to settings to allow root acess.
You wouldn't have had any issues at all if you were using a version of CWM even somewhat recent. Because it prompts you to remove those files.

[Q] (Q) accidentally wiped OS ,Need help getting OS back on sgh-i747

To start I bought this phone from a friend was working fine. It seemed to be rooted after going to recovery mode and realizing it was a custom recovery that I got into. I've had plenty on iPhones and androids , so far this is the first time after hours of research and trying everything that I've had to make a post asking for help. I have a sgh-i747 pebble blue ATT phone. It had 4.3 OS on it and was rooted before I acidentally wiped the OS off of it. I've tried the past few days to use Odin to get the stock firmware back on, I've tried 4.0.1 - 4.3 , no luck. Odin recognizes phone after I click start after choosing the md5 tar file it either says fail or stays at setupconnection. I've tried many times over and over unistalling and re installing drivers , kies, and downloading different firmware and every version of Odin. I need help guys please , thanks alot

Since your phone was on 4.3, the only thing you can do now would be a stock restore to 4.3. Please see the thread below for the stock restore zip as well as instructions. You may use another device to copy the stock restore zip to an external SD card and then place this card in your phone, then flash from (custom) recovery. Odin cant help you now except to flash custom recovery if you need to redo this.

Good you have TWRP already. You can try to see if you can save the zip to your phone's internal memory as the PC may be able to recognize it in download or recovery mode. Otherwise, you may try using any other device at all that accepts (micro) SDHC card e.g. camera, card adapter etc. You may also be able to flash the zip directly from your PC using the desktop flasher. See thread with instructions below ...

Glad to know your phone is now working fine. To root or not is a choice you'll have to make depending on how much control you want over your phone. The pros are that you literally have control over your phone in terms of installing apps or making modifications to the operating system. You can install custom ROMs and/or apps that you would otherwise not be able to install. The con, of course, is security and integrity of your phone. There is always a risk that you may end up bricking your phone or creating access for malware. Rooting should, therefore, be something you do only if you have need for it.
... Just Odin stock ROM and work from there or if twrp isn't latest... Odin latest recovery and then USB files into phone using recovery and then flash... Or again just use odin to flash and then do whatever you want afterward

[Q] How to install ROM on bootlooped GS3?

So long story short I attempted to update my GS3 to the official ota 4.4.2 and it installed 100% but now will not boot past the AT&T logo. It revolves about three times then freezes. I am still able to get into recovery/download mode and I was wondering how I can either get it to fully boot or install some other rom? Pretty noobish at this have only rooted twice and installed CM via the installer. Any help would be appreciated!
Try a factory reset in recovery to see if that helps.

You might have to try with Kies if you wanna keep the official.
I'm not sure if there is a flashable zip of 4.4.4 yet.

Yep, you could use an external SD to flash CM. You'll have to flash cwm or twrp with Odin if you don't already have it.

Not really. When they re-base a ROM, they set it to work with the latest firmware (i.e. radios). They don't change the bootloader and CM doesn't flash one when it installs. So they didn't infect anyone. They were just trying to stay current with the latest firmware.
Thanks, that sounds a little better.
I looked in the Sprint Development forum and didn't see the posts, where is this being discussed?
So I'm stuck. Not my first rodeo by a long shot but my note 4 got the OE1 without my knowledge. No prior backup or even root on ob7. Had myself a big sigh and rooted through Odin, no big deal. Trying to install TWRP says it succeeds in Odin. But when I try to boot into recovery it fails and kicks to download mode. Is there a version of TWRP for this update or should I go back to Philz?

When you flashed TWRP did you have autoreboot checked in Odin? If you did you should edit Odin.ini and change the value of autoreboot from 1 to 0, save it then flash TWRP. This time after it says success it will just sit there. Remove the usb cord, pull the battery, then replace the battery and boot directly into recovery by vol up+home+power. I have found that TWRP often doesn't flash properly if you reboot into system instead of recovery immediately after the flash.

When you flashed TWRP did you have autoreboot checked in Odin? If you did you should edit Odin.ini and change the value of autoreboot from 1 to 0, save it then flash

I have never had that problem but I will check once I get home. I've never had to post here in 4 years since everything has already been answered, but I figured running around without a functioning recovery might not be the best option... Thanks.
i can now definitely and definitively confirm that that we can use odin, after -oe1, to root and load an alternate recovery such as twrp... i am now on twrp 2.8.6.0 , and i will be loading noterized sometime this weekend... i went with twrp to get used to it, as it is included in noterized...

Is there a version of TWRP for this update or should I go back to Philz?

hey, airplane guy, sounds as if u got jumped by -oe1 like me... i had a dm-verity error earlier last week, and when i finally borke down and re-loaded -ob7, they downloaded/loaded -oe1 when i went to the kitchen to get a drink... i had forgotten that AUTO-UPDATE is default ON... anyway, in my adventures this week of loading twrp, i found that just flashing it is not enough, u have to IMMEDIATELY boot/reboot to recovery, so the SCRIPT has a chance to OVERWRITE the auto-command to TRASH the recovery u just loade and revert to stock recovery... so when u reboot normally, without the auto-script over-writing the command, the revert-to-stock will overwrite your loaded recovery... u can watch it happen, mine kept saying ' installing update ', when i knew i was completely disconnected... after a ton of searching/reading/experimenting, i finally figured it out... i loaded flashify, let it download and install twrp, and then IMMEDIATELY WENT STRAIGHT TO RECOVERY, and watched the twrp auto-script overwrite the commands... and then twrp came up and i am good to go... if i had went straight to recovery after odin-flashing twrp the other day i could already have been done...

[Guidance] SGH-T989 UPDATING ISSUE!

Good evening everyone!
I've recently wanted to update my Hercules from 4.1 (I know it's reeealy outdated) to version 6.0 Marshmallow.
So I did a few steps and now I cant' seem to go any further, and I need your help.
So far, I've done the following:
-Installed TWRP 2.8.7.0
-Used Odin to flash the TWRP mentioned above
Now, I know there are a few problems regarding this version of the TWRP on the Hercules, so I tried fixing it by using Odin again and flashing the updated 2.8.7.1 and even the 3.0 version that I found on some threads, but with no sucess.
I haven't even had the chance to install Marshmallow on my phone in the first chance, because I couldn't find any .ZIP folders on the TWRP instalation menu.
I really appreciate your help guys, I'm a noob at this and I'm just starting to figure what is what, I just need my phone updated. It's running so far atleast, so it's not hard bricked I guess.
Did you follow the instructions to flash TWRP using Odin?

I'm pretty sure I did everything I was intended to do. I installed Samsung Kies so I could install the drivers on my mobile, and then TWRP through Odin properly with the blue light showing up. After flashing it, it turned green and said PASS or PASSED. So I think I did everything right on that end, I can even access TWRP with no real problems.
I even tried to do a ROOT on my system, but again, I couldn't use ZIP or any other files on the TWRP installation option because they simply do not appear
bump
Watching this thread as I have the same problem.
I can boot to TWRP 2.8.7, but if I try to install, there's no file to install from.
I can go back to TWRP 2.6.0, and then mount the card and see the ROM, but every ROM I try fails. Something about non-virtual partitions if I try 4.4 or better, and error executing updater binary if i try 4.1

I don't know of any problems with any of the recoveries. However there are different recoveries for different roms which need to be used in a specific order and in a specific way, the first time that you virtually repartition your phone.
Have you gone through the process of applying the "virtual partition" and installing the modified "virtual partition" recovery? This is required for most of the MM roms on this phone (Hercules). The process is very well documented here http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2-tmobile/help/guidance-sgh-t989-updating-issue-t3414641 in the #2nd post.

Hi, thanks for replying
No, I dont' take I have taken that step actually. I'm pretty new to this and I tried following every step correctly, but I know that I failed or skipped something at some extent and I've been trying to figure out what exactly, so I can fix it. I guess I need to Virtual Partition my phone then, could you post me the link do to so? Because I think you posted one that would take back to this post

I shut it down in TWRP then hold volume down and power to go into download mode.
My phone has gone backwards now though - it doesn't matter what I load in Odin now, it won't boot up. The SAMSUNG screen is on, with a progress bar, but it never gets to the end. It stops right near the end and it sits there until I reboot it again.
