At first, I was going to get the Spigen Neo Hybrid in Champagne Gold for my black Nexus 5. It's usually about $20.00 U.S.D. with free shipping. I really liked that the iPhone 5/5s and Galaxy S4 versions had replacable colored frames. I wanted their 'Dante Red' and 'Infinity White' colors.
Then I contacted Spigen and asked if those colored replacement frames would be available for their Nexus 5 version of the Neo Hybrid case. They replied back telling me that they have no current plans to offer seperate replacement frames for the Nexus. I guess Nexus 5 sales can't compare to iPhone and Galaxy S sales to justify the expense to produce those frames.
So...off I went searching for something that has that dual color look in red or white.
I found this generic TPU case from eBay and decided to take a chance. I'm glad I did.
Ultra Thin Matte Fiber Pattern Tpu Hard Case Cover For Google Nexus 5
eBay seller 'yin_store1120' from Hong Kong
$8.69 U.S.D. + free shipping
It doesn't add much bulk to the phone, gives you TPU protection all around, and has a glossy colored side edge and a matte faux carbon fiber texture on the back. The backing is especially nice because it doesn't pick up fingerprints. The cutouts are all there and nicely accented. I bought the red and the white, and it still cost me less than one Neo Hybrid.

Good deal!
Chinese cheap-o cases are usually a dime a dozen but every now and again you find a diamond in the rough, and this appears to be one of those good finds. Just ordered a white one, thanks for the heads up.
I think I'll get one but have a question for you. How do the buttons feel? Are they stiff and hard to push or are they reasonable (compared without the case on)? The buttons would be my main concern.

Response after pushing the case buttons is very good, actually. There's no looseness, and they don't feel any more stiff than the phone's actual buttons.
And if you look closely at the case buttons, you can see that they are textured. That's a very nice touch (no pun intended )

Thanks for this find. Looks pretty awesome actually.
In terms of protection, how well do you think this case would do in a drop? Have any drops happened with one of these cases on your phone?

I used to have a generic TPU case on my Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10, and found the protection to be great. I didn't want silicone ones because they have a sticky feel to them. I then got one of those polycarbonate cases which had a rubberized surface, but I didn't like the feel of that case either, and the hardness of the polycarbonate didn't give me faith that it would absorb the shock for any drop to protect both the phone and the case itself. Then I ended up with the generic TPU case, and from then on that was the way to go for me.
I'm very careful with my phones, but I dropped my X10 a few times getting out of my car where the phone landed onto concrete. The shape-fitting firmness / soft-feel properties of TPU absorbed those multiple-feet drops with no issues. After having it for about 3 years, I retired my X10 just last month. If you looked at it, you would think it was still brand new.
My girlfriend used to have a TPU case on her old HTC EVO 4G and one time accidentally dropped it into a tank of water. The case was tight-fitting secure enough where it kept the water out of almost all the parts it covered, so all she had to do was wipe it down, make sure it was dry after a while, and the phone was fine afterwards.
Now this Nexus 5 case is more stylized than the clear smoke one I had for the X10. This one has textures and a paint/color scheme which makes it feel more hard on the outside surface than my old X10 case even though it is TPU all the way around. But being TPU, I'm sure it will offer good protection.
I have a matte anti-glare, anti-fingerprint screen protector on my Nexus 5 as well. Now fingerprints and fingerprint smudges will be kept to an absolute minimum.
Anyone having this case has a problem with over responsive buttons? Volume rocker works fine. I actually have to push it to work, but power button is way over responsive in my case. I just lay a finger on it without applying any pressure and it gets pressed. It pisses me off since I accidentally happen to turn the phone off while using it or end the call when I don't intend to (I use power button to end call function).
Other than that it's really great case, although I'd rather prefer matte instead of glossy sides, since glossy finish gives almost no grip.
Do you have any other cases? Can you compare the bulkiness to other cases? That's the thing that I look at most is how bulky cases are. Thanks

I have a similar bumper with no back which fits perfectly with rhino shield and doesn't raise it like the spigen crap

I have the Trident case.
The good:
-great protection
-very well built
-durable
-nice features (dust filters, covers, etc)
The Bad:
-Silicone cover is a doghair/dust/dirt mgnet
-the protective clear cover scratches easily
-touchscreen edge typing difficult (the case goes to the edge of the touchscreen glass)
-microusb cover hard to accress (same goes for 3.5mm plug)
more infoo!!!

I also have the same combination as you. Case mate toughcase + realook screen protector, and I can say that I am very satisfied with them.
I know there are some trade-offs between protection and slimness, but I can live with a little bit thicker if I can forget about dropping my vibrant.
i use a real cheap 5 dollar case i got on ebay. it works great. the only issue i have had with it is that it broke after the 5th fall. i put some tape on the edges and it works great. it adds bulk but not much. i tried a silicone hard back cover but the slicone was crap.my case protects and looks ok. its black matt. and adds some grip. i find the cheapo ebay cases work just as well as the name brand ones.
ps. remote droid is great. i feel like a king.
I was told my trident case was being shipped friday.. Still haven't received it just yet.. But I'm so anxious!

Thanks for this, just ordered mine....
good **** de31
just ordered my hard-case.
got mine and love it, ads a little bulk but it looks good, better in person than in the pictures in my opinion, and makes the phone feel so much more solid.
So, Ordered the Casemate on Dec. 21, and received it this morning (23rd).
Love this case. I had been using the rubber case from Tmobile but wanted something with more protection and easier to get out of my pocket.
The only, I mean "ONLY" complaint thus far is that the screen protector I received with my case is for the UK VERSION i9000.. (has the hole at the bottom for the pad area). I may fire off an email and see if they will correct this but I haven't used a screen protector yet with this phone so its not really a priority.
Pro: Fast shipping, Good looking, Tough and at a Great price (Thanks again de31 for the 30% gift code).
Con:.......eh
Unfortunately all they have are the i9000 screen protectors, it said so last I checked on the site

Late to party yall, but I've had Trident's Cyclops case since Thanksgiving & still absolutely love it.
I mostly agree with the above points, but:
1. No scratches here.
2. Zero difficulty accessing ports.
Case DOES impede on the extreme screen margins, which is maddening until you get used to it.
Now, no longer an issue.
Also, bulk feels amazingly addictive. I have an Incipio Feather (nice for an ultrathin) as well, but it no longer feels right in my hand.
Nero 4 ... (j/k for now)
trident here, agree with review but all in all it's great case. i used to always drop my phone w/out a case and didnt think i needed 1 because of gorilla glass. but then it fell on a rock and screen was def cracked but still functional. now that i have trident i rarely drop phone because the case adds bulk, and it isn't nearly as slippery. it's def annoying sometimes when you cant access edges of screen but you get used to it and can get it working (just do it slower). i was always a fan of cheap $5 cases but after a while they always fall apart. trident was $25 on ebay and i would buy another if ever necssary.
What about this one:
http://www.otterbox.com/samsung-vibrant-cases/samsung-vibrant-cases,default,sc.html
otterbox was recently released. i don't have any experience w/them. just looking at it tho i would still stick with trident mainly because of the lip above the camera, makes breaking lens extremely difficult

The case i have is the Ballistic SG Case and its the best case i have right now for the T989. I have tried the D30 case which i paid $30 at a T-mobile store and i regret buying it because the buttons are hard to press [the power and volume buttons] and the case is pretty slippery when you leave it flat on a table. Check ebay for the "T989 Ballistic Case" thats where i got mine for $15 with free shipping and it came in 3 days. Trust me you wont go wrong.

I've had the argyle case, the generic clear TPU, and currently the white Body Glove Diamond from T-Mobile.
I like the overall feel and ease of button pressing with the body glove, but after about a week it has gotten quite a few scratches. The generic clear TPU had a really great feel and the buttons were easy to press as well, I just didn't care much for the design. The argyle looked the best, but the buttons were harder to use.
I like the Aegis but I think that one of the best options as per your desired specs would be the D30. Or maybe you want to look at the Incipio "feather" case. That seems to fit the bill as well.

I bought a clear argyle, actually love the look of it through my carbon fiber gunmetal skin. Problem was the buttons, hard to press. I cut mine out with a razor blade but I have been looking for a new clear argyle without the buttons. Have you found one of those? Picture with gunmetal skin is below!

3.hybrid case http://www.ebay.com/itm/Black-APEX-...214630?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item231884d826
If you use the car and/or desktop dock I say Ditzronic TPU. Pretty painless undressing it to take a trip or put it on the nightstand to charge or be an alarm clock. Looks pretty good. If you're rough on phones and are prone to damaging them with big drops go with the Aegis. I only need scratch prevention so it works for my needs.
I picked up a Ballistic case from the Telus store. Its a monster of a case, but protects my monster of a phone well.

Those Argyle cases fit well but the one I have scratched my phone's outer plastic band, around the power port / USB area. This is the area where the case has a bit of play. So as you put the phone inside your pocket, the case actually rubs against the phone, which might cause scratches. Alternatively, sand or dirt from pockets might have got in through the looser parts of the case and scratched the phone. Either way, this has me looking for a new case.
hmmm....don't really have this problem

What do you guys think about these:
- clear s-line TPU: http://www.ebay.com/itm/CLEAR-S-LIN...ccessories&hash=item4ab072b8af#ht_2635wt_1396
- carbon hard: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Carbon-Hard...ccessories&hash=item1e699a614c#ht_3115wt_1396
- Metal cosmo http://www.ebay.com/itm/T-Mobile-Sa...ccessories&hash=item27c2bc6f4a#ht_1252wt_1163
- silver hard case: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SILVER-HARD...ccessories&hash=item484358b8ac#ht_2651wt_1167
another factor we should consider here is the impact on reception, does anyone have any experience on that?
Since the international Galaxy S3 is exactly the same form as the U.S. variants, check out that thread first.
My 2 cents...
TPU:
All of the TPU cases are essentially identical, and provide the best protection VS all others -- except an Otterbox -- should you drop it, and the 2nd-best grip (VS silicone). They range from the official Samsung TPU cases ("overpriced"), down to the $2 EBay S-Line / X-Line's. I went for some middle-of-the-road Cruzerlite cases ($10 each or $20 for 3 on Amazon), and they're great, though not as grippy on the sides as I would've liked.

Hard Polycarb:
The hard polycarbonate plastic cases are also very nice and slightly thinner than TPU, but provide little drop protection. Some provide more top/bottom coverage than others, and some, like this Rock Quicksand case I bought, are actually much grippier than you might expect (it's grippier than my Cruzerlite!):
There are still many other types of cases to consider (listed in order of their level of drop protection):
Full body armor -- bulky; otterbox
TPU
Silicone / Gel / Jelly -- these are the grippiest cases you can get, but that also means they attract lint like the plague, are harder to take out of your pocket, and so flexible that they have a tendency to slip off the phone. I still have one of these $0.99 cases on my Captivate, and it's OK, but not ideal.
Bumpers -- protection around the edges of the phone only; often paired with body skins for scratch protection.
Polycarb
Leather pouches -- for "executive" style; slow to access
Flip -- usually seen on tablets; a little awkward to hold when the flaps around back; a big plus is that it replaces the original back cover of the phone, so the original will never get scratched; very little drop protection
Gelaskin / fullbody skins -- scratch protection, but zero drop protection; they're basically just stickers.
Metal battery cover replacements -- these are known to interfere with NFC, and GPS; steer clear
Other...
Soft TPU / hard polycarb are still the most common.
(my ideal case would fuse TPU or polycarb with grippy silicone on the edges, but AFAIK nobody makes this)
I have a flip on order. IMHO the display is the weakest link and the photos posted from EU with totally busted screens annoys me. I'm hoping that the flip's cover will help protect the display somewhat.
The problem is the design, there's hardly any bevel to keep the glass from hitting something and while it's stiffened glass it's not unbreakable. I'm going to gamble on insurance for a couple months even though the replacement cost with insurance is $200 plus processing ($50?).
I'm going with the otterbox defender.

In terms of protection that a great choice, however, it usually removes any styling from the phone. Since Samsung is making the flip case it won't box up the style or feel of the phone (and I have a desk charger on order too which it will still work with). There was a video on some UK retailer site...

People complain that the stand on most kickstand-cases is often flimsy or slippy, so I wouldn't cheap out here if you really intend to use the kickstand a lot vs a dock or desk stand.
If I hadn't ordered a universal ThoughtOut stand I'd have opted either for the official samsung vent case (where you put a coin in the back to act as the stand):
Or, this "SD smart stand" case, which is also getting high praise (the stand flips in and out like a wristband), though is a bit harder to find:

"This 2-pack comes with two different colors and textures of Samsung Galaxy S III Ultra Slim Covers. The Galaxy S™ III Ultra Slim Cover provides additional protection for your handset against scratches on the back of the device. If you typically don't buy cases for mobile phones, this is the option for you. The case is ultra slim, giving you the feeling that it's not even there - aside from the texturized grip it provides, keeping the phone from sliding off surfaces or falling out of your pocket. Allows unimpeded access to ports and buttons, assuring your Galaxy S III is fully functional."

Does anyone have one of these? What are your thoughts? Exactly how thin are these things?
There's three main reasons that I never use a case:
There's only so much room in my pocket as it is
Decreases sexiness
I use mounts that are designed specifically for my phone. A case would get in the way of that.
If I am to believe their marketing... "The case is ultra slim, giving you the feeling that it's not even there"... then it would seem like at least #1 and #2 on my list would not be as much of a concern. #3 would probably still be an issue, but who knows. I plan on getting a ProClip holder for my SGSIII, and I've never had one before so I don't know exactly how snug it will be. If this cover really is as thin as they make it sound, maybe it'll even fit in that too.
Thoughts?
P.S. Show of hands... who saw "ultra slim, giving you the feeling that it's not even there" and immediately wanted to make a sexual joke?
I've also been looking for the slimmest case possible and been eyeing these. Any input would be appreciated!

+1 also interested in these but have no idea how they translate as noone has reviewed them or has them that I've seen.
I'm not as worried about scratches as I am about the thing sliding out of my pocket or very short falls.
Although I'm sure this thing would probably increase friction enough to lower my concerns about pocket escape I'm not sure that it looks like it provides any additional padding vs my kitchen floor.
My main doubt with these is whether the case is so thin it breaks or becomes stretched..
Will have to check best buy to see if they are going to carry this like the flip cover.
And I will be the first to admit that I thought of a sexual joke too.
Well I went to buy them and they are on back order... guess they are more popular then we thought.

Doesn't look like that item really offers anything in terms of protection, aesthetics, or ease-of-holding. The Samsung ones probably don't offer much protection either, but the texture will at least help to grip the phone. Looks a little nicer too.

Just ordered that few days ago. lol
0.3mm thin! think about it! Though it doesnt offer much protection, im only planning on using it around the house and my friends houses.
I typically get a tough case like a Silicryllic or Otterbox, and a lighter/thinner hard case to protect from scratches when being put down, keep cameras protected, and a slight drop.
For my thin case I bought the Rock Quicksand in grey for my Pebble Blue GS3, and am VERY happy with it. It adds a lip around the screen so it can be set face down, controls are easy to get to, and it's different from everything out there. It's great to just have around the house, and set on a desk or counter and not worry about scratching the back.

Also considering the Diztronic blue TPU when it's released, and then either the Silicryllic or an otterbox maybe.

Slim Cases
I'm (DBA Cases) am going to release one in 2-3 weeks.
That one for a few bucks is going to be garbage. When you are talking thin cases you have to use the right materials - no way they are.
Mine have a special blend of polycarbonate to take falls and scratches, a great grip and better design.
Of course they will be more than a few bucks but I'll have them on EBAY probably.
Let me know I'd love to test and write a full review for ya I'll cover shipping

Saw a review for it on youtube. Looks really sleek but the deal breaker for me was that it doesn't have a lip in front that lets you leave it face down without scratching it up.
Here's the link though:

I went with the Incipio NGP in translucent gray and it looks really slick on my blue s3
hey this one is also a genuine samsung case and it has the lip:

does anyone have a pic of the genuine samsung clear one on the pebble blue phone? i can't find one online anywhere

I've got the Rearth Alpine White Ringke earlier in the week. It's super thin. I've got a Speck Candy shell arriving today for comparison...
I owned one of the 0.3mm cases from ebay for my s2 and I'll give you my opinion:
1. They protect the phone pretty well. Even through some minor falls the case still held on and didn't crack
2. The case scratches pretty easy. If you get the clear one its not as noticeable, but it was very noticeable when I owned the black one.
3. I kept a screen protector on the phone as the lip on the screen side is minimal and I was still scared of setting it down on the screen side otherwise.
4. Used the case for ~6mos(2 mos black version, 4 mos clear version) with no major issues. It is still on the phone as we speak.
5. Super cheap(~$3) and did exactly what it was supposed to do(prevent scratches on the phone and case
I already have one on order for my S3

So, I was looking for a new skin on my phone when I realized that I didn't want to do a wrap. If you're like me, you'll spend $10 and then remove the skin in like a week. After that you'll have to buy another one if you want to go through the process again. I'm not 100% into cases because of bulk and this is a damn sexy phone.
I scoured a few different places looking for a white thin case when I came across this: ELAGO THIN CASE
Here are my pros:
Fit is perfect
Cut outs are exact
This actually feels like it could be part of the phone
Has a Matte White look
Not TPU, its a hard plastic
Lots of compliments just in one day
Cons (Keep in mind, these are things people may not like but doesn't bother me)
Phone is still a little slippery
Buttons are now a bit more flush with the case
Zero lip over the glass to put upside down
The cut outs are exact so accessories are about 1mm from being perfect
I'm going back for the other two colors. This is an awesome case. Does anyone else have any ultra thin cases they can recommend.

Is there a promo code for that one? Kinda high in price.
got this today, it's going back. I have a skin on my phone, the case went on with ease on top of that and was still not snug
I got the Anccer in gravel black:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XTQKJY8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Preserves "caseless" feel, super grippy.
Do not spend 10 USD for just re-branded case.
Buy the exact same one just for 4USD.

Good call.
Edit: Just went to the link. I just don't like AliExpress. I had problems with them in the past. 20-39 days for a case when I can get it in 2 days from Amazon, meh... I'll pay the difference.

Really? That's a bummer. Mine fits perfect and has no movement. I don't have any sort of skin. I wonder if that's throwing off the fit.

It looks just as good in person.
Needs a top and bottom lip. Put your phone face down and it will scratch.

Nope. User a screen protector.. Cases with lips exist. This is for absolute minimalists.
Just went to the mailbox to get the Elago case I ordered after seeing this thread. I'm coming from the Spigen Slim case and, even by comparison, the Elago is ridiculously thin! I love it, but it definitely needs to be paired with a screen protector in order to keep the phone somewhat safe.
It is probably not nearly as thin as that case, but I usually buy Ringke Fusion cases for every phone I get. I love the way it adds the extra tactile feel to the buttons, and has saved me from many drops even on asphalt and hard concrete. I'm not sure how it is on the S8+ yet as my S8+ is not here yet. but I've used Ringke Fusion cases on OP3T, Nexus 6P, Nexus 6, Xperia Z3, and I have loved it on every phone.

Not even close.
Just a heads up. The Elago scratches and scuffs pretty easily. Not that I expected much from such an inexpensive case but, I've been babying my black Elago and, within 24 hours it already has 4 or 5 long scuff marks across the back. Not a big deal, just thought I'd mention. It would've been nice if they had used the same type of rubberized finish found on the Spigen and Ringke slim cases.
