Hi!
I've been trying to root the LG P930 from Bell for the last couple of days, and I've tried essentially all the guides and nothing works
It's running 4.0.4 and s/w version is LG-P930-V20e-Jul-22-2012.
I'm at wits end now, trying to root it!
I tried the latest Framaroot, it didn't work, I also tried the "Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v33" method, and that kept getting an error along the lines as "couldn't find ric" folder. Another common one I tried, where I had to copy "LG_SystemBackupTest.apk" and then reboot, etc kept getting an error where it was permission denied copying superuser and busybox.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what else I can try??
Thanks!
Did you try Matman's unbricking guide? I don't think there is any way to root unless you go through the unbrick process.

I haven't tried that yet, but I guess I will try that! I thought these other ways would work, but oh well! Thanks for the tip, I'll report back if it works/doesn't work :good:

I believe you need to revert back to GB in order to unlock the bootloader and get root access which the unbrick process requires.
I highly recommend using a WinXP x86 machine if possible. I didn't have much luck with x64 machines.

Thanks!

This is the one I used on 3 different Bell P930 phones: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1784709
Is your phone unlocked? If not, it might be best to unlock it first, then install a custom rom. With a custom rom, you may not always get the prompt to enter a network unlock code.

This guide worked for me great http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2044645
And that was my first time rooting a phone so I guarantee you this one also works and you don't have to type cmd commands, have a quick read and decide which one to use. In the end both methods will have your phone rooted.

So I tried the Hereric method and I'm getting stuck on Step 7:
7 - Run TPSparkyRoot.bat, following the instructions in the window.
When I run the bat, it gets this error: cannot create /data/local.prop Permission denied
Any ideas?

Try the method here under JB ROOTING. Works for me. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=
Also I have a new way of installing cam so you don't need to follow Hereric's guide. I have the thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2598278

Try uninstalling the LG drivers. Reboot the computer then reinstall, then reboot. After that use the LG mobile support tool to update the phone back to v20e. Then try the root method again. Just remember to follow the steps precisely.

Try running the CMD as administrator, I have done 3 times the hereric method and it worked.
So in the end, I managed to root, yay!!
It ended up being because of my computer it seems. I was using a macbook pro with windows on it, and it seemed to just not work. The minute I tried another PC, the hereric method worked on the first try basically
The only issue im having now is, finding a proper ROM. The Avatar ROM works, but it keeps crashing randomly for some reason, no matter the version I try
I've rooted my Bell P930 using this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2044645 ... i was failing using windows 7, but succeeded using WINDOWS XP.
EDIT: nevermind, i just read your above post, bleeeeh =) as for you crashes, i dont really know avatar, but FULL WIPE before flashing a ROM is recommended in my experience.
FULL WIPE:
Factory reset, wipe system, wipe dache, wipe dalvik.
Flash ROM, flash gapps, reboot .... if that doesnt work you might want to try another ROM, CM10.1.3 is pretty much to more stable of all, personnaly im using CM11, not having any issues other than my phone slows down when battery is running out, still in developement.

Congrats mate I suggest you flash one of the most popular roms the Cyanogenmod 10.1.3 (stable) which is equivalent to the stock android version 4.2.2
Unless you want to try the nightly (not stable) version of cyanogenmod 11 which refers to android kitkat.
http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=p930
And I recommend flashing also the WIND kernel, very friendly kernel for the battery and for the CPU.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2119976
Don't forget to wipe your phone before flashing the custom ROM

Hi all,
I've uploaded this root method because it is the only way I have been able to get root on the first try every time.
Your results may vary. If you don't get it first try, just try again.
Here are the methods I have tried and had fail:
UnlockRoot
Doomlord v1
Doomlord v4
TPSparky
SuperOneClick (Any Version)
So here you go! Here is a method that I have had 100% success with. I will be editing the script to try and make it more clean and less work on your part in the future. I will post new versions on this thread when I get them done.
Required Downloads
LG Nitro HD Root.zip
Enabling Root Rights
Enable USB Debugging and Unknown Sources.
Unzip the zip file to the location of your choice.
Run the file named “Root.bat”.
Follow the instructions on in the CMD window.
Notes
Here is a list of the apps that I have found will brick your Nitro if removed:
AT&T Address Book
AT&T Navigator
Google Play Books*
Google Play Movies*
Google Play Music
Google Play Store/Market
removal of at&t addressbook and navigator doesn't brick your device !
i confirm this !

Thank you for your input. But, I have removed both of them individually and bricked it. Also, several others have reported in other threads that it has. I believe it just depends on how much luck you have.
Just tried... no worky.

Matt your instructions for root say to extract from zip, root.bat. But your link takes me to a apk root file not a zip file...
can you be more specific or maybe the link is misdirected?
are you saying this is a root method via apk from phone?

But as to what? Run the apk on your pc o_0
His directions say dl zip, yet there is no zip it directs you to a page that looks like what may have been in the zip? Still not clear
The apk root ...it shows up on the phone but still unclear.
Need the link fixed or to be clarified please Mattman when you get a chance thank you.
Edit: is the zip you were refering to the lg tool that reverts you to v18f ?
If so will this work on official ics release via lg tool.
Thanks again in advance

Terribly sorry... The privacy settings on my Google Drive must have been reset somehow.
I've fixed it so that the zip should show now.
But it now says that you have binned the file. It works right, doesn't it?
Mattman your script isnt working.
When I hit "any key to continue" it flashes..but its not flashing anything.
Cmd window turns off (checked process not running at all)
nothing happens.
No instructions , nothing. cmd. window just exits.
so guesse thats another brick wall for root on lg updated firmware to ics.
Mattman sorry but this method does not work.
Or I should say it did not work for me.
I even put togewther my own rendition of your files that you compiled still would not work.
In fact I am now convinced the ONLy root method for the nitro running it the one here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30209937#post30209937
Im not saying anything against your method, it looks solid, but it would not work.
I tried it on v20c and v18f.
I now have root but want to say your efforts and work are appreciated.
I hope this is not considering hijacking the thread I wanted to post this for others with the same issues.
EDIT: Mattman I been searching through the threads and seen that you initialy used this method off of 2.3.6? Meaning you rooted from 2.3.6? ( from the cwm thread you came up with a way via script to run cwm) I am wondering maybe your method only works from 2.3.6? what firmware did you originally root from?
i tried this method on my v20c and my wife is not working.. and never get root??

Hi everyone. I had a long journey trying to root my phone, I originally had ICS and tried following this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2044645 It was able to get my phone rooted by step 7, but then I couldn't get into recovery mode, it kept giving me:
---------------
Secure booting Error!
Cause : boot certification verify
-------------------------
------------------------------
Enter the fastboot...
Enter the fastboot...
Long time no see!
-------------------------------------------------
So I thought perhaps this doesn't matter at this stage and so I continued on with the tutorial. Eventually (long story short) something happened and now I have downgraded to Android 2.3.6 but my phone is no longer rooted (I don't have 'super user' app and root checker says I'm not rooted). I tried upgrading back to at least ICS through software update but it gives me a "you are not registered" (or something like that) and won't update.
I have no idea what to do now. I honestly just want to get ICS back and give up on this whole rooting attempt. Any ideas/help appreciated.
You should have followed this guide :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2044645
It's newer and much easier. Now for the problem at hand, run the v18f exe file from the above guide. That should fix the issue you have then be able to get to any rom from there. Make sure you follow the guide precisely.

Thanks for the reply. I actually was able to just use the LG update on it's own to get ICS back, though the phone isn't rooted anymore.
At some point I did try the tutorial you sent but it wouldn't let me get into recovery mode, it gave me the error I mentioned. I'm just wondering though, if I use that tutorial again, will it work with ICS and v20f? Also, by the end of it what will i get? a rooted phone with Gingerbread? (sorry if they're stupid questions, I'm still learning).

You got that error because you tried to install CWM with the ICS boot loader still installed. The link I provided has you install v18f so it can be rooted and them use the program to keep root so you can downgrade to Gingerbread so CWM can be installed.
One more thing: if all you want is root but don't care about installing another ROM use this to root v20c and stay 100% stock other than root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460

Okay, I get it. I think I might've missed a step somewhere along the line or something. However, as you said, I really just want to root to give myself the super user ability/app since I find it helpful. I did try the link you provided before and now again but it won't work. First of all I have v20f not v20c (is that why?). Second, I choose normal mode, and then it tells me to look at my phone and click restore. My phone shows a window saying "Restore my data" and "Do not restore" but also asks for a password. Since I don't think I have a password I click on Restore my data (and leave those field blank). My phone says "Restore Starting"...then it says "Restore ended" (within a few seconds) but the Bin4ry bat file won't move on to the next step. It just stays at "Running..." Any ideas?

Ok now we are getting somewhere. First of all v20(x) doesn't matter. If it hangs on you saying "running" just close the "command" window, and try again. The couple of times I have tried it it has always done that the first time but then worked the second or third time. It is at that point the phone is supposed to reboot. Good luck.

First off, thanks for keeping up with me. Well, after like the fifth try, using a way of opening the bat file through cmd manually (not sure how it's any different) I actually got it to say "Successful" and it actually rebooted my device!!...However, it then said something like "Permission denied (are you root?)" or mount failed. So although the file said at the end that my root was successful, I realize it really wasn't and I even made sure; I don't have super user or anything and even root check doesn't say I'm rooted.
I tried it one more time after, but again, it wouldn't reboot. So I tried it again and this time after clicking Restore, I unplugged and plugged my USB. It did say "success" and rebooted my device, though again, the same "mount" error came up and my device isn't rooted.
Any ideas??
Two questions: first what version of windows? Second how are you launching the bat file?
Sent from my LG-P930 using xda app-developers app
I have Windows 7 64 bit and initially I just launched the bat file but double clicking it/opening it normally. However, as I mentioned, the one time it did work I opened the file using this method: youtube . com/ watch?v=7EpkrCq1gfM (all you do is launch the bat file 'manually' more or less by opening cmd prompt then directing it to the folder with the bat file, then running the bat file)
Okay I will thing you might try.... Copy the bat file along with the stuff folder to c:\. This is a wild stab in the dark but under Windows 7 the root folder has different permissions than sub folders and then just double click on the bat file from there.
If you are still having issues use this process: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2044645

You can follow the whole guide if you want to install CWM. However if you use v20f as your kdz file or any other ics kdz this will accomplish what you want.... Rooted ics. Do you have the kdz file for v20f? Or another way to look at it is the whole purpose of the before and after bat files is to maintain root when going from one rom to another. You don't have to go to Gingerbread only if you want to install CWM.
I just wish I knew why you were having to many issues.... Try this open a windows command prompt and go to the stuff folder and type the following command:
adb device
What do you get back in response?

It gives me the "List of devices attached:" and then under it my device code.

I literraly had this exact error on my p930 2 days ago when a tried installing CWM for the first time. the only way i was able to unbrick the phone was following this guide.

if you have any questions you can ask me, i just did it on my phone so i should be able to answer unless you run into a problem i didn't
At what stage do you get the secure boot error? Is it after v18f is rooted and you are doing the before and after bat files with. KDZ file?

if his problem happened the same as mine after trying to boot into cwm for the first time you get the error, becuase lg has a secure bootloader. after this i had to follow the unbrick guide, eventually you end up with at&t stock rom, then you are able to boot into cwm and install a custom rom like CM
One thing just occurred to me you need to stop at step 18 on the unbricking guide. If the KDZ that you are using is one of the v20(x)_00.kdz variants do not use adb to push the recovery.img file this WILL brick your phone and cause the secure boot error this is used to push recovery onto v10(x)_00.kdz only.

Okay thanks, I will try this guide once I get the chance and report back to you. Just a question though, I'm assuming this guide will still give me Gingerbread at the end of it, correct?

Um, you mean stop at step 18 of the original guide you linked me or the one that KronicSkillz is suggesting? I honestly just use whatever the guide says/provides, I don't bring in any outside files. Previously I mentioned I might use another one because you suggested it would work well for me by keeping ICS. But originally I just follow the guides step by step.

At the end you'll end up with AT&T stock gingerbread. in the middle you'll be running a stock korean rom, but that is temporary.
as per your 2nd comment if you resintall stock ICS that will rebrick your recovery and CWM will cause another error if you ever try to run it.
this is the reason your phone had the errors you posted
Secure booting Error!
Cause : boot certification verify
-------------------------
------------------------------
Enter the fastboot...
Enter the fastboot...
Long time no see!
If the whole purpose behind this is you just want ICS why didn't you just run the LG update tool, STOCK ICS can be updated with their stock PC usb tool.
anyways its too late for that.
to save your phone you have to follow that guide to restore it to original AT&T Gingerbread. then you perform a backup with CWM and THEN you can flash whatever ROM you want on your phone be it custom or Stock ICS. I have a feeling flashing the stock ics might rebrick your recovery though. not 100% sure on if it will or not.
---------- Post added at 01:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:22 PM ----------
as per your question about which guide, i think we both linked you the same guide, except the one i linked was the Sticky version that was a little more detailed (i think) but in either case you should pick one guide and stick to it don't read both of them and go back and fourth you could get easily confused even though like i said i think they are the same guide/method of unbricking. There is a reason though that the guide i linked is the TOP STICKY on the forums for this phone. Because it is the solution to unbrick all p930s who have gotten bricked, which is almost anyone who updated their phone since they bought it, a few ppl got lucky and had Roms old enough that LG hadn't locked their recovery yet and they didn't get the error you were seeing.
The only reason I suggested stopping at step 18 was because it seemed like the v20f kdz file was being installed instead of the v10f because of the secure boot error. V20f is ICS, there is no logical reason why v10f is generating the error. Which kdz file are you flashing during that step in the guide?

So, I have tried time and time again, and am still no closer to getting my phone rooted. I have spent hours reading all over these forums, and Google in general, and have yet to get a straight answer to my question as to why my phone refuses to root.
I am thankful for the advice offered, such as trying SuperOneClick that does... well, nothing. [Says my device has no drivers, yet,. Windows sees my phone as an Android device, and the program generally locks up after]. Was told that my image is faulty, and yet, somehow it's still installed on the device/working fine. [Was suggested to re-download the CW MOD image, and re-install] And it just goes on and on... then silence from the community.
So, to boil it down to the nitty-gritty, the only thing I am getting is, while I -attempt- to install SuperUser via CW, I get this:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed!
So, please, someone, assist me in getting my phone rooted!

try installing superSU...
Now, super one click ... don't use it, it isn't for our roms.
you should be using Odin to flash CW, and then downloading roms and flashing with CW
If you want support from the community, why not offer more information...
What are you running now ? UCLH ? UCLJ ? Jellybean, Gingerbread, ICS ? How did you obtain the version that is running on your phone now ?
i've discovered the only way to root Gingerbread is to download a pre-rooted rom.
ICS, install CW w/ Odin and then flash supersu or superuser .... There was, at a time, I couldn't get ICS to root and had to download a specific SU or SuperSU not on google store that I found by searching the forums ....
Give us more info, as much and as detailed as possible and we can help you further.

I used the official update from Samsung when it was fully released... finally. So, running 4.0.4.
What's SuperSU? Is that different?
For more details, I posted already to the fourms here before they went silent:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35750419 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35811065
As you can see, I tried everything, it's like my phone's being annoying... is it do-able to just re-set the phone to stock Gingerbread, and then just update using another ROM? And, if so, what one do I use? I just want a stable experience. Like, with the leak that came out not too long before the official, there was the keyboard error, and I even had issues with placing and receiving calls...
At this point, it's getting to the point where I am willing to basicly go back to out-of-the-box, then root the sucker, if I can do that. Seems perhaps a clean slate is in order, anywho.
Thanks for the quick reply, though.

#1 what version of Odin are you using?
#2 What version of CWM are you using? Where did you download it from ? (Here I hope : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2007198 )
#3 Where did you get SuperSU from?
#4 Are you downloading it with your phone's browser, or are you downloading it to a computer and transferring via USB ? (It's possible you have a bad flash card/RAM in the computer/physical hard drive in computer).
Do NOT use Superoneclick, there is no SOC that will work for our phone.
It has been some time since I have used ICS. I had completed the stock download from samfirmware.com, installed CWM 6 with Odin 1.85 and (taadaa) attached to this thread the same version of Superuser I used to install via CWM.
I stumbled on this randomly.. no usb hubs i guess..
Are you using a USB that is a direct connection to the motherboard? usually that can cause issues, if your not on a connection to the motherboard it won't work..

From my computer, via USB, and not likely at all. Every component is new, and to make it more amusing, I did all this in the past with the leaked ROM before I got this new system on my last compy, so, yeah... if -both- computers does the -exact- same thing... prolly time to format the phone, and try again, somehow?

..okes.. I feel like somewhat of an idiot. I decided to just try one last time to get the recovery mod in there again, and, for whatever stupid reason, instead of seeing a blank background with the Android, I saw the CW icon, and a silver icon... I told it to apply SuperUser as I have tried so many other times, and it just... worked.
The closest thing I can figure is that my browser, and my eyes told me that I had multiple copies of the current CW Mod, but, in my working directory, I unzipped the -old- version.
To make it simple; I -now- have root on my Glide, woot!

I want to flash a custom rom on my Note 2 from bell mobility.
I'm following steps from wiki called How To Install CyanogenMod Android for Samsung Galaxy Note 2 LTE ("t0lte")
When I type heimdall flash --recovery recovery.img --no-reboot, it gives me a message "heimdall is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
What am I doing wrong?
First of all what is your model number? Are you rooted? Custom recovery?

I'm not rooted. I'm following the steps in "Installing a custom recovery on Galaxy Note 2 LTE"
Samsung devices come with a unique boot mode called Download Mode which is very similar to Fastboot Mode on some devices with unlocked bootloaders. Heimdall is a cross-platform, open source tool for interfacing with Download Mode on Samsung devices. The preferred method of installing a custom recovery is through this boot mode. Rooting the stock firmware is neither recommended nor necessary.

Model number is SGH-i317M. M simply means Bell Mobility, they always add "M" at the end. Otherwise it's the same, no difference.

Thank you but this one is using odin I think. I heard that Heimdall is better. If you go to the cyanogenmod website and select Samsung Galaxy Note 2 LTE ("t0lte"), then you can click "How To Install CyanogenMod Android for Samsung Galaxy Note 2 LTE ("t0lte")" and it has the instuctions. This is the part I'm having a problem with. This is the guide they provide for the cyanogenmod, so it's kind of "official" and that's why I want to use it. Also when I'm stuck at something I want to figure it out instead of jumping from one thing to another. I don't understand why it's not working I'm following all the instructions. I'm wondering if anyone used the method I'm trying to use.
Have you installed Heimdall on your mac computer? You have to install it on your computer, NOT on your phone..
Then you place your phone in download mode, and run the heimdall command from your Mac..
AND, if instruction on XDA appear "too sophisticated" for you, then you are NOT ready to root your phone, trust me on this one..
But hey, its your phone, so go crazy....

Hahaha:good: It's just a matter of following steps. And from reading the guide I don't need to root my phone. I like when everything is complete and clear. After so many years I though it would become simpler to install a rom, not more complicated.
I have a PC, not a Mac. But how do I install it on my computer? It doesn't say neither how nor that I need to in the instructions.

They look sophisticated, but I can still do them. I flashed roms with odin on my galaxy s 2. However I already started with something so that's how I want to finish it. Also the creator of the rom provides instructions how to install his rom so that's why I want to do it that way.
Heimdall is for mac's not pc's, so if you want to install ANY custom rom on your phone, you need to be able to use Odin
and, you MUST root your phone to install Cyanogen mod or any custom rom, period, no matter what you might have read..
