I want to buy this tablet but I don't know how about everyday use(internet browsing, using games) and rooting. Is it easy to ROOT?
Thx for answers. Merry Christmas!
The 2013 Nexus 7 is a great tablet many reviews say its the best tablet available at this time. HOWEVER that is only if you can find one that doesn't have any touch screen problems (do a search).
As far as unlocking and rooting goes its a little more difficult then many other tablets but I would recommend using one of the 1 touch methods to make it more simple. I used the Skipsoft Nexus toolkit and it worked perfectly. It also makes it easy to make changes in the future or try different ROMS.
Best of Luck and Happy Holidays.

It's the easiest thing to unlock and root ever. It's a nexus, fastboot oem unlock is all that is needed. Others don't allow as easy a method as that

nice, i have TWO im using now lol
both only the 16gb version , one is 3 weeks old i only paid 150cdn and one i got at launchday july 31 for 226cdn at staples
the 150 is perfect except for the very low sound stock, no reboots yet that i know off
my original launchday had killer reboots ever other day and i had to RMA it for bad speaker
I got mine on Saturday and I love it!
What's better than 1 nexus 7 FHD? 2 Nexus 7 FHDs My mom has the 16gb variant I'm using the 32gb device. These are wonderful devices that suits my needs as a student. An android workhorse that gets things done in style. The 16gb that I got from Staples on launch day occasionally reboots, however the 32gb I got from google play last month is perfect.

Hi,
just wondered who is upgrading your Nexus S to the Nexus Prime? Who is willing to invest over 500€/$ for this new Google Device?

I'll definitely wait for a lot of reviews, roms, ice cream on Nexus S to compare and price drop, then i decide what to do.
The screen seems outstanding but there are almost no apps for that resolution, and upscaling is not that good. The ram is nice but i prefer 2gb to never worry about it (at least for 2 years).
I'm already in queue and my wife gets the "S".

I like 4.0 inches screen, and 4.65 inch is too large for me... Not easy for taking .
just got my nexus s since june... I did not earn so much to spend 600 euros on new phone every 6 months...
and to keep talking nexus s is not so bad at all....
I'm going to stick with my nexus s as I also don't want/need a giant screen...4" is perfect for me. I'm just praying we get ICS on our phones soon!

If it's a sexy handset which uses nice materials and has a premium feel then I will definately be upgrading.
If it's plasticky and looks typically dull then I will be hesitant and wait to see how ICS performs on my current Nexus S.
Price is irrelevant to me.
I'm perfectly happy with my Nexus S, why would I upgrade?
I'm just a poor underage boy, so I'll probably wait for the next Nexus device. Also, I don't know if I like the design from the posters...
Gomna upgrade and pass this along to my son, now when it will show up north of the border is another thing.

If Sprint gets this, I'll plan to be on deck to grab two for me and the wife.
the screen is too big but i have bought both nexus one and nexus s one day one lol so i think so but i am perfectly happy with nexus s to be honest there not much i think i need in a phone until 10pm tonight lmao
I'm going to wait and see how ICS performs on the Nexus S but it's gonna be hard to resist and not buy this new baby
I'll wait to see how ICS looks on the S. Also, I will have to wait for Brodit to do the active car kit for it. Couldn't live without the current one now...
Maybe it'll be a bit cheaper by then too...
If it comes to sprint & if I got the $ then it's a 100% yes that I will get it the only thing that can make me hesitate is when specs , pictures
of Galaxy S3 comes out cuz that phone will have even better specs I can bet on that 100%

I will wait for price drop, 6 months or so ...
I'll be picking one up the first day the GSM variant is released. Then the Nexus S will become a dedicated Google TV remote, and the ADP1 will go to the museum. Selling the Nexus S for $150 just isn't worth it, whereas selling the Nexus One for $400 (with dock) after getting the Nexus S was definitely worth it. And I really love the Nexus S.
I have owned all of the Nexus phones. The Nexus One, the Nexus S and now the Galaxy Nexus. Google doesn't sell the Nexus 4 phone in the Netherlands but there is a webshop in the Netherlands that sells imports. They sell it for EUR 550. A bit much if you ask me. Because I'm buying it with a subscription I don't have to pay the whole EUR 550 but something like a 100 euros.
So my question is: What phone could I buy instead that comes close to the Nexus 4 in regard to these points:
Timely updates
"Vanilla" Android experience
Ability to unlock without too much hassle
Or should I just give up and just pay the high price anyway...
None. The Nexus 4 is in a class of its own.

Surprising that you ask this. Especially after using the whole line of Nexus devices.
None of the phones will come half as close to the Nexus in terms of the points mentioned by you.
However in terms of other specifications, I think the Galaxy S3 or HTC One X should be the closest.
And do you feel the Nexus 4 is really that big of an upgrade over the GNex? If you were getting it at the price offered on Play Store, then fine. But for an overpriced Nexus 4, I'd suggest stick with the GNex.
Just my 2cents to save a few of yours.

if you were "having" to stray away from the nexus line i'd just say go note2 and gs3(or hold out for gs4) i hear aosp is still a great resource.
I had a Samsung Galaxy i7500 and was very annoyed by the quality of the firmware. I had a girflriend with a Samsing Galaxy S with all kinds of annoying features. (I am talking about the phone here) She lost all her contacts. The default for that device was to NOT store the contacts in the cloud but backup with that POS software called Kies. Okay, you get the point, I don't like Samsung software...
The HTC One X sounds like a good deal. But it still costs me around EUR 50 and I would rather pay EUR 100 for a LG Nexus 4
After reading all your comments and thinking about it I think I should stick with a nexus device. I wouldn't mind staying on my GNex but In my case I'm getting a subscription with a phone so I think I'll make someone else happy with my GNex. I think the EUR 50 difference is worth spending it for the LG Nexus 4. And if I'm satisfied I could also sell my GNex to get my EUR 100 back.

But for the Asus Padfone 2 I have to pay 425 euros!

Having owned several Asus Tablets, I KNOW that they are on top of their game with software updates. When I owned the first Transformer, we got MORE updates then the Xoom (Google Tablet) and were days behind the Xoom's Android software updates.
Basically saying that Asus is baller when it comes to techies since most of their whole company is based around guys like us who tinker and build. I never owned a PadPhone but heard it is really nice.

Another webshop started selling the Nexus and the price just dropped 100 euros which means I don't have to pay extra. My renewal is on the 10th of March. Let's hope it doesn't rise again!
My Nexus 4 came in this morning. I love it! The Samsung Galaxy Nexus was a great phone. And this one is even better. I love the screen, it's really pretty. I love how the sides of the left and right edges of the screen are rounded. I think it's a bit prettier than the Galaxy Nexus. Had no problems with the touch screen sensitivity as I read on the internet.
I'm very happy with my Nexus 4. Thanks for your opinion!

not surprising. but this is the reason why we have this phone. the gnex will see many 4.4 roms. i have no doubt in that.
I just hope those ROMs would be fully functional

I thought the whole point of Nexus was that the phones would fall outside of the 18 month window to be better than the bastard carrier phones.
I'm wondering if lack of gnex support isn't because the kernel is limited to 3.0.x. If so, we'd need a talented Dev to come up with a newer kernel.

It's rumoured that 4.4 will run on a new, ram friendly, kernel. Been stuck at 3.0.x woudn't make porting 4.4 a problem?
Deleted. Reason = Double post.
This is shocking, to be honest. They even advertise that 4.4 will work with phones that have 512MB of RAM without issue yet the Gnex has a whole 1GB. And 18 month support window for a dual-core phone? That should have been extended to 3 years to compete with Windows Phone and iPhone, both of which still have similar or even lower specs than the Gnex on many handsets still in use.
Looks like Google doesn't care enough about customers to at least finish the 4.X series for them.
I should be buying a Nexus 5 anyway. It's been fun, guys.

It may be, but custom ROMs should work OK. If there are any kernel dependencies for 4.4 they shouldn't be so hard to port. Phone I had before GN, Xperia X8, has full, working 4.1 custom ROM on 2.6.29 kernel so it can be done

This is really disappointing.
I was thinking about replacing my gnex within few months with nexus 5, but now I don't think I'll do if Google abandons its customers like that.
The whole point of Android 4.4 is to give a better performance on low end devices, but if Google won't upgrade it's own devices, so which manufacture will???
iOS 7.0 was released to iPhone 4 that it's 3 years old - Galaxy Nexus is not even 2 years old!
It's really frustrating!
If I'm going to run hacked up ROMs, I might as well get a nice phone with a nice camera. Maybe 4.3" and removable battery and SD card. And blackjack and hookers.
Very crappy reason considering why people purchase Nexus phones... not that it will do anything, however be sure to to tweet your annoyance to @GoogleNexus @android @EricSchmidt @googleMobile
Fingers crossed for custom roms i guess then!

Even running like crap Apple is still supporting it.
The iPhone 4 should be compared to the Nexus S and the iPhone 4s should be compared to the Galaxy Nexus.

I very deeply disapointed with this announcement. But my worst concern are these issues still not solved:
Wi Fi issue
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=58230
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44494098&postcount=1
Black Bar in Task Manager issue:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44465458&postcount=16
Those were reported MONTHS ago and Google hasnt released some kind of Fix and with this announcement, I think Google will leave GNex in the tech limbo.
Is a bad day... no kitkat for 1gb device ... and kitkat optimiced to 512mb...
BAD BAD BAD GOOGLE!!!
I am still using my N5. And have been wanting to upgrade. Been wanting for something with the SD 820. This would fit the bill and unlocked. With the roomers that HTC could be offering a Nexus this year has me waiting a bit longer. Not offering this with AT&T and only the 32gb version here in the US, 32 is all that I need. I believe that the HTC 10 could have a Nexus variant here in the US with 64gb. I know that HTC has issues financialy and if google wants to make HTC viable again, a Nexus device would make sense???? Maybe just wish full thinking.
I'm wondering the same. Wait or not to wait. I've almost had it with my bootloader, no-update-getting, T-Mobile Sony Xperia Z3
I wish it had on-screen buttons and Sony's Xperia Z5 fingerprint scanner (on the side, integrated into power button). That would be amazing!
I have a n5 and and I wondered the same thing you, and i decide to buy a htc 10, my reasons:
nexus devices are powerfull but lack of extras in some sections
htc sense is ****ing godlike, love it more that stock
unlock and root htc phones is nearly easy as nexus
help with 1 more purchase a company that gave me my best phone in the past (htc one x)
*english not my firts language
Decision has been easy for me. Placed my order on the HTC 10 already and to be honest I wouldn't wait for the Nexus, as I prefer Sense with Bilnkfeed in comparison to Google's stock launcher. And unless anybody can port it sooner or later I'd terribly miss this launcher on a Nexus device.
Cheers

I agree with this, plus expandable storage that can be converted to internal storage! Win win for me. Smaller screen was a bit of a sticking point for me, I am now used to a 5.7" but there is so much I like about the 10, I went ahead for it.

I pre-ordered the HTC10 as well. Going to see how different it will be to up grade and or upgrade a ROM using RUU's. Ben On Nexus for a long time, I have been doing allot of reading on what not to do to brick the phone. Time for something different
In my opinion,HTC 10 is better on the sound and camera effect,Nexus is better on the native android system.tant
If you think you are fond of enjoying music or taking photos,Choose HTC 10.Operation of the Nexus is better.
The most important thing is You Could get HTC 10 in several days.Who knows when the next Nexus could be reached.

I have been thinking about this since I pre ordered my 10's and after reading and watching all if not most reviews. Nexus 6p 128gb can purchased for $599 now and $50 gift card from online retailer. without tax and free shipping. Saving me money . Also HTC drop the ball on not including the Hi-Res ear buds. which was one of the main reason I wanted this device. Now I have to shell out another $200 + on some Hi-Res ear buds What do you all think? 10 or 6P
Sorry your train of those eludes me. Seems like you are trying to justify buying the 6P.
Those ear buds that HTC was believed to give with the unit cost like $50 iic. How do you get $200+ if you don't get them you have to buy. Seems like you wouldn't have bought them anyway since you got them. Why bother with the more expensive ones if you would have been satisfied if you thought they were going to be free?
This isn't a troll or anything. I just can't see your rationality

I actually currently own the 6P and I've placed my pre-order on the 10. I loved the M8 when I had it and my only problem at the time with was the really bad camera and the battery life.
One thing you can count on is nexus never has xsd storage. In this case 128gb internal is the minimum I need with my usage.

It would honestly depend on your budget. If you have $300 for a tablet, then I would wait for the n7 2016 but if you only want to spend 80-90 then go for the 32gb n7 2013 model. It runs most games ok but still stutters abit. ElementalX performance mode makes things better tho. Don't make the mistake of going 16gb just shell out that extra $10 and get the 32gb one.

first thing, check for the touchscreen problems. As you probably know, some devices come with ghost touches which ruin a gamer's mood
Then, there still might be some ghost touches, fix them with the mod provided here on XDA.
Now you are good to go.
About the games, don't worry they all run. Dead Trigger 2 is not so good on the highest graphic settings and NOVA 3 is only lagging at the last couple chapters of the game. They are not big lags though. You have 2 choices here; either lower the resolution to 720p with root (believe me, there is no difference in a game) or give a slight OC to the GPU. Then there will be no lag. Both work. If you do both at the same time, you will probably survive 2017 games, which is also my plan too..
I am planning to stick with that screen size until Google stops replicating Apple and comes back to widescreens.
Guys i bought nexus 7 2013.. This the device info
I need to know is my tablet support 4g?

Look in the LTE developement section. Make sure any roms or mods you are gonna flash is for deb. flo is the wifi only model. looking at the screenshot it would appear you have the model with sim (deb).

Hmm, I guess there were no announcements and no new rumors from Google i/o regarding a new 7" Google Tablet. A 7" tablet is the optimal size for me. Still very happy with my N7 2013, but I wouldn't mind a speed, storage and screen resolution bump.
If they do come out with a 2016 model, I hope they include a freaking sd card slot!

Not gonna happen. Google considers the need for external storage not to be a necessity for any device with more than 8GB of memory. I'm not one to say never but I won't be holding my breath for any Nexus device with external storage. Even adaptable storage was made for lower tier phones where internal is expensive but external cheap.
All that being said I still use mine a lot and find it to be very snappy. If there's one thing stock Android does its run well on older hardware.

N7 is great even in 2016 with a but. You can play games with great graphics without lag on KitKat only. But if u go with Lollipop and Marshmallow (meaning that you must have the latest and greatest)... Then find a different tablet as those Android versions are not optimised at all for our tablet (Google just doesn't give a damn about it)
