I am still using my N5. And have been wanting to upgrade. Been wanting for something with the SD 820. This would fit the bill and unlocked. With the roomers that HTC could be offering a Nexus this year has me waiting a bit longer. Not offering this with AT&T and only the 32gb version here in the US, 32 is all that I need. I believe that the HTC 10 could have a Nexus variant here in the US with 64gb. I know that HTC has issues financialy and if google wants to make HTC viable again, a Nexus device would make sense???? Maybe just wish full thinking.
I'm wondering the same. Wait or not to wait. I've almost had it with my bootloader, no-update-getting, T-Mobile Sony Xperia Z3
I wish it had on-screen buttons and Sony's Xperia Z5 fingerprint scanner (on the side, integrated into power button). That would be amazing!
I have a n5 and and I wondered the same thing you, and i decide to buy a htc 10, my reasons:
nexus devices are powerfull but lack of extras in some sections
htc sense is ****ing godlike, love it more that stock
unlock and root htc phones is nearly easy as nexus
help with 1 more purchase a company that gave me my best phone in the past (htc one x)
*english not my firts language
Decision has been easy for me. Placed my order on the HTC 10 already and to be honest I wouldn't wait for the Nexus, as I prefer Sense with Bilnkfeed in comparison to Google's stock launcher. And unless anybody can port it sooner or later I'd terribly miss this launcher on a Nexus device.
Cheers

Waiting for Nexus 2016 to get in your hands is like 6-9 months away. HTC 10 has everything I want in a phone. This phone would be a great upgrade from M7. Its actually the upgrade I have been clamouring for. HTC finally delivered the promisedland. So, I pre-ordered...

I agree with this, plus expandable storage that can be converted to internal storage! Win win for me. Smaller screen was a bit of a sticking point for me, I am now used to a 5.7" but there is so much I like about the 10, I went ahead for it.
I just got my S7E not too long ago but I'm thinking of getting the HTC 10 myself. Aside from waterproofing, the HTC 10 is very comparable to S7E in my opinion..Should I?
I have a 5x now think I'm going to get the 10 for daily use. Then keep 5x as flashing phone

I pre-ordered the HTC10 unlocked. I figure if I have to have the Nexus 2016 when it comes out, I'll sell off the 10 and switch.
I pre-ordered the HTC10 as well. Going to see how different it will be to up grade and or upgrade a ROM using RUU's. Ben On Nexus for a long time, I have been doing allot of reading on what not to do to brick the phone. Time for something different
In my opinion,HTC 10 is better on the sound and camera effect,Nexus is better on the native android system.tant
If you think you are fond of enjoying music or taking photos,Choose HTC 10.Operation of the Nexus is better.
The most important thing is You Could get HTC 10 in several days.Who knows when the next Nexus could be reached.
I have the Nexus 6p.

I have been thinking about this since I pre ordered my 10's and after reading and watching all if not most reviews. Nexus 6p 128gb can purchased for $599 now and $50 gift card from online retailer. without tax and free shipping. Saving me money . Also HTC drop the ball on not including the Hi-Res ear buds. which was one of the main reason I wanted this device. Now I have to shell out another $200 + on some Hi-Res ear buds What do you all think? 10 or 6P
Sorry your train of those eludes me. Seems like you are trying to justify buying the 6P.
Those ear buds that HTC was believed to give with the unit cost like $50 iic. How do you get $200+ if you don't get them you have to buy. Seems like you wouldn't have bought them anyway since you got them. Why bother with the more expensive ones if you would have been satisfied if you thought they were going to be free?
This isn't a troll or anything. I just can't see your rationality

I actually currently own the 6P and I've placed my pre-order on the 10. I loved the M8 when I had it and my only problem at the time with was the really bad camera and the battery life.
One thing you can count on is nexus never has xsd storage. In this case 128gb internal is the minimum I need with my usage.

So many mixed messages. Some sites says US won't be whether unlocked or branded. Some say unlocked should come with them, but not branded.
http://goo.gl/GK8uL4 says we would but then later got clarification that it would not. Sad but I don't think I would have used them.

I have owned all of the Nexus phones. The Nexus One, the Nexus S and now the Galaxy Nexus. Google doesn't sell the Nexus 4 phone in the Netherlands but there is a webshop in the Netherlands that sells imports. They sell it for EUR 550. A bit much if you ask me. Because I'm buying it with a subscription I don't have to pay the whole EUR 550 but something like a 100 euros.
So my question is: What phone could I buy instead that comes close to the Nexus 4 in regard to these points:
Timely updates
"Vanilla" Android experience
Ability to unlock without too much hassle
Or should I just give up and just pay the high price anyway...
None. The Nexus 4 is in a class of its own.

Surprising that you ask this. Especially after using the whole line of Nexus devices.
None of the phones will come half as close to the Nexus in terms of the points mentioned by you.
However in terms of other specifications, I think the Galaxy S3 or HTC One X should be the closest.
And do you feel the Nexus 4 is really that big of an upgrade over the GNex? If you were getting it at the price offered on Play Store, then fine. But for an overpriced Nexus 4, I'd suggest stick with the GNex.
Just my 2cents to save a few of yours.

if you were "having" to stray away from the nexus line i'd just say go note2 and gs3(or hold out for gs4) i hear aosp is still a great resource.
I had a Samsung Galaxy i7500 and was very annoyed by the quality of the firmware. I had a girflriend with a Samsing Galaxy S with all kinds of annoying features. (I am talking about the phone here) She lost all her contacts. The default for that device was to NOT store the contacts in the cloud but backup with that POS software called Kies. Okay, you get the point, I don't like Samsung software...
The HTC One X sounds like a good deal. But it still costs me around EUR 50 and I would rather pay EUR 100 for a LG Nexus 4
After reading all your comments and thinking about it I think I should stick with a nexus device. I wouldn't mind staying on my GNex but In my case I'm getting a subscription with a phone so I think I'll make someone else happy with my GNex. I think the EUR 50 difference is worth spending it for the LG Nexus 4. And if I'm satisfied I could also sell my GNex to get my EUR 100 back.

I have an Asus TF300T and it's almost the same as AOSP. I love it. And they are fast with updates. So I think Asus Android devices are pretty great!
But for the Asus Padfone 2 I have to pay 425 euros!

Having owned several Asus Tablets, I KNOW that they are on top of their game with software updates. When I owned the first Transformer, we got MORE updates then the Xoom (Google Tablet) and were days behind the Xoom's Android software updates.
Basically saying that Asus is baller when it comes to techies since most of their whole company is based around guys like us who tinker and build. I never owned a PadPhone but heard it is really nice.

Another webshop started selling the Nexus and the price just dropped 100 euros which means I don't have to pay extra. My renewal is on the 10th of March. Let's hope it doesn't rise again!
My Nexus 4 came in this morning. I love it! The Samsung Galaxy Nexus was a great phone. And this one is even better. I love the screen, it's really pretty. I love how the sides of the left and right edges of the screen are rounded. I think it's a bit prettier than the Galaxy Nexus. Had no problems with the touch screen sensitivity as I read on the internet.
I'm very happy with my Nexus 4. Thanks for your opinion!

Congratulations.. Enjoy the Nexus 4.
Finally got my termination letter from Sprint and will be switching to ATT sometime this month. I want to get a "Phablet" I know the new G2 coming out has a smaller screen and the Note 3 is going to have a bigger screen (Don't want to pay $300 for it either). I've only got until the end of the month, I don't really keep up with the new things coming out, is there anything really worth waiting for?
It really depends on what you are looking for. HTC will have there Phablet out soon, but honestly I would still take the ogp over any phone that's coming out for the next 8 months or so, lol. I've had tons of phones and as far as the g pro goes, it's the best features of every phone I've came across so far

That's with 5+ hours of screen on time, mind you.
I'm not thinking there is another phone out there (Note series of phones included), that can pull off this kind of battery longevity. I didn't tweak ANYTHING. Only thing it has is the PAC ROM flashed.

OGP can't get anything better at that price, if money not an issue the go for Note 3.
It depends if you want customize your phone... I have had every phone under the sun and just keep coming back to the ogpro.. Its a good solid phone.. Keep in mind all new phones are going to be locked that means no ROMs until they can unlock it... And its been how long now and the s4 bootloader is still locked... The lg pro is by far one of the best if not the best out

Picked them both up today and a tablet, paying the same price as sprint even with the tablet. So far service is SUPERIOR to Sprint. 4G at my house was unheard of yesterday. Went from 1 bar to Full. Text's seem to come through faster, calls are clear. Loving it so far. :good:
It's funny I just discussed this same thing with my gf yesterday in regards to keeping this phone or not. I too have had a lot of android phones from the HTC eris, original Droid, to the incredible, and GS3. ..and this phone is by far superior to all. Battery is the best I've ever experienced. I've tries iPhone, Windows phone, other androids....I love this phone even with the minimal development right now.

G2 victories over G Pro:
- Cutting-edge graphics chip
- Ridiculous battery life
- OIS
- Interesting button setup
G Pro victories over G2:
- Bigger screen (+0.3" diagonal PLUS real estate gained by physical face buttons)
- microSD
- Awesome off-contract price, 50% lower contract price
- Removable battery
It's kind of an interesting contest. I really hate that you can't just have it all, but that's life. According to this list the G Pro is the clear winner for me, which is why a G Pro is making its way to me now from an eBay seller (I just had to save that extra $80 ).
If you care a lot about high-end gaming, the G2 is the definite way to go, no question. The battery life on the G2 is insane too, like mind-blowingly insane. If you're looking for a new kind of battery life experience people really haven't seen with a smartphone before (unless it was with a giant aftermarket battery), get the G2.
Otherwise, to me, the G Pro kind of takes the crown. I love huge screens (not Xperia Z Ultra huge, mind you lol) and on paper 5.2" sounds close enough, but those soft face buttons really steal a lot of real estate so it's not just 0.3" difference. The buttons pretty much only go away on video playback. I don't care about the graphics performance I lose by not going with the G2 since I'm only coming from a Galaxy Note N7000, but I really wish I could have the G2 battery life.
Cant really go wrong with this phone especially if you buy it out right I think it's the most bang for your buck. It's big it's fast it's very nicely designed we finally have some nice options for roms available plus it has removable battery and storage if you're into that sort of thing. Even on a stock rom the phone is solid rooted or not. I wish there were more accessories available like cases but I get by. I'm actually running my phone naked now and so far I haven't dropped it yet lol.
Hello!
So now that Nexus 5 is officially available...anyone jumping ship
I am thinking but the bigger battery(also replaceable) and bigger screen are making me think twice.
Things going for Nexus 5 are the "updates" ....so thinking and waiting for reviews...
I don't care much for the faster hardware as i usually don't play games much and 16 GB would be enough for me as my usage never exceeds 5 GB.
p.s. just thinking loud and sharing my thoughts ...please don't go ballistic on me

I doubt that I will. There's just not a compelling enough reason, and I bought my LG OG Pro with all it's features and 32GB internal memory, etc. for far less than the N5 16GB model!
No, it's nice, but not worth it.
Nope.. Let's see when Nexus 6 is released.. For now OG Pro is perfect for me.
Dat 5.5" screen + 32gb internal + external SD slot is what's keeping me from the Nexus 5.. Same as with the Nexus 4 and LGOG. My internal is half full and about half of my 64gb card is half full so I definitely need the storage space lol.

I have the F420L, and it makes me sad that there are very few developers working on the OGP and fewer still want anything to do with the F420 variants. The Nexus 5 has great software support from google and the dev community, but its hardware isn't that much better than the OGP to justify purchasing it right away.
Not really. Had my white (unbranded) OGP for only a month and loving it (looks and speed). The N5 just looks too plain for my taste and in white it doesn't look any better; Zebra complex.

Obviously just can't tolerate LG's late updates.
I really do miss the various roms I had on my S4. In addition, some kernels allow you to have 2 roms installed!
Mainly I miss development, and I sorta like how it looks (N5).
I am planning on buying one, then I will sell whatever I don't like

Well, I took G Pro for his big screen, perfect for watching tvshows and movies... so my answer is : no
Micro-SD slot is mandatory for me, or at least, 64gb internal memory !
I finally received my LG Optimus G Pro today, so all my previous comments have been based on speculation. I finally have had the chance to really use the device.
While I did enjoy the stock UI more than I anticipated, I ended up with CyanogenMod installed, which is what I had planned to do with the device. Coming from AMOLED devices in the past, I am extremely impressed with the LG's screen. I much prefer it, so for me, IPS is my new default standard. The color is far more balanced and reading on it (which I do quite a lot of) isn't as taxing on the eyes.
The sum of its parts makes the LG OG Pro the unsung gem in the smartphone world, IMO. I'm extremely pleased that I sold my S4 and even with the extras, such as the AT&T case that activates the phone when flipped open and sleeps the screen when closed (works fine on CM, btw) a dual USB car charger and some screen protectors, I still have $150 left over from the sale of my S4, and I doubled my internal storage capacity in the process.
If this device had a fully unlockable bootloader, I don't think I'd ever sell it. The S4 has cheap plastic trim, but it looks to me like the OG Pro has real metal. The camera shutter and flash works faster on the OG Pro than the S4.
All in all, there's not much compelling me to look at the N5. It costs more and gives me less of what I wanted.
Actually in my opinion there is no reason to jump to Nexus 5 until Dev support continues for this phone....saying that anyone has any estimates/predictions as how long will Cyanogen support will continue foe this nice phone? :highfive:

I don't see any reason why it would stop being supported. With Loki, we can continue to work around the bootloader, so I don't see any problem with future development, but there may be a major change in something that screws that up. If/when the bootloader is patched to prevent the Loki exploit from working, and if the bootloader is tied to major functions on the device, as it is in Samdung's S4, then we could have a problem.
I want to buy this tablet but I don't know how about everyday use(internet browsing, using games) and rooting. Is it easy to ROOT?
Thx for answers. Merry Christmas!
The 2013 Nexus 7 is a great tablet many reviews say its the best tablet available at this time. HOWEVER that is only if you can find one that doesn't have any touch screen problems (do a search).
As far as unlocking and rooting goes its a little more difficult then many other tablets but I would recommend using one of the 1 touch methods to make it more simple. I used the Skipsoft Nexus toolkit and it worked perfectly. It also makes it easy to make changes in the future or try different ROMS.
Best of Luck and Happy Holidays.

An android workhorse that gets things done in style. The 16gb that I got from Staples on launch day occasionally reboots, however the 32gb I got from google play last month is perfect.

Hi guys,
So its time for me to get a new phone again from work, next month.
And as I'm not given an unlimited budget, I'm thinking of getting the Nexus 5X (then I dont need to pay any extre money).
Last time I got the Nexus 5, which still performs great, but its dated and is ofcourse out-performed by my private Galaxy S6.
Two years ago, I actually swapped my personal HTC M7 with the Nexus 5, cause it performed better.
I have the luxury of just using another phone for work, and keep that one for private use, its no problem.
Would you guys think the Nexus 5X might make me do the same again? Swap my S6 for the 5X?
I'm an IT person, so fps drops really grind my gears, in pretty much anything.
How does the 5X hold up on gaming these days? I cant imagine the UI/browsing/scrolling to cause FPS drops, cause that is still flawless on the normal Nexus 5 today.
Anyone else made the switch? Anyone else has this experience?
Thanks guys!
No, it's a medium range phone. Except the lack of biometric sensor, I prefer Motorola Phones.
I'm not totally happy with this phone.
Since the march update the phone is perfectly fine for most tasks. Gaming performance is fine too. But im not to picky. I went from a s6 to 5x. I switched because i killed my s6.... I prefer the 5x.

It warms up a little in Asphalt 8 but no noticeable Lags.
I have the S7 and the N5X and using the Nexus as my daily driver.
Camera is still better on N5X and the experience always best even though the screen is a lot better on S7 and battery life also is better on S7 (tested several configurations with the N5X and can't make it the whole day with a little bit of music, 2 hours of video playing, and a little bit of browsing and whatsapp during the day).
Great phone that you can own for 280€ in Europe now... so best deal ever.
Going for the new HTC 10 the speaker in this phone is horrible.

try the surround sound mod in Nexus 5x themes and apps section . its a lot better now.
For me, the story starts and ends with Android updates, especially security updates. I'd thinkt that as an IT guy that would be high on your list of priorities as well. With the N5X, you'll get them as long as the hardware is still capable of running the latest Android version. Your S6 is nice now, but with the S7 out, how long do you think Samsung will continue to update the S6? I bought a Galaxy S3 on release around July 2012, less than 2 years later Samsung decided they were done and the phone still sits at Android version 4.4.2, with tons of security holes unpatched, even though here on XDA there are Android 6 ROMs for it. I mean, the S3 is *still*, 4 years after release, the most popular smartphone model in the world when you look at how many are still in use, and nearly all of them are vulnerable to security flaws that were fixed months or even years ago. Meanwhile the Nexus 5 was released a year earlier and is happily running the very latest Android version.
Literally the only issue I have with this phone is the speaker. I'll try the surround sound mod for that.
This phone is plenty fast. I switched from a 6P because it was too big. Going from the 810 to the 808 I haven't noticed a drop in performance, but I don't do anything performance heavy.
camera, fingerprint, stock android, quick updates, and dev community are flawless
after the march update, performance is perfect as well, both for normal use and gaming.
the only significant downside IMO, is that the battery is smaller than ideal for my daily use.
Also, and this is a lesser issue, the loudspeaker is sub-par.
I agree with everyone on the speaker, only other thing i wish was a better build quality, i have to use certain cases to get rid of the creaking plastic sound. For 200 dollars i plan on using this phone until the next Nexus.
The speaker is the only downside for me but I'm going to try some sound enhancements to see of it improves..
Despite of the small battery, battery life is still very good.. Performance is good and nexuses are so freaking smooth!

for me the speaker is bad, but since i dont listen music on speakerphone much, its not bothering me.. the only downside for me is charging the phone. not the speed of charging, but the fear of the phone might catch up in fire. few users had experience this. my 5x performs really good, coming from htc m7, would buy it if LG fix this charging burning issue.

Doesn't need to be overnight for it to happen. Someone said he just plugged in for 10minutes in other thread.

Well ****. Lol didn't see that post. Did it say if he was gaming or doing something to stress the CPU? My phone is nice and cool when I charge it but I also don't touch it until its done. Only because fast chargers make the phone get super hot if you use it and charge. Easier to just wait
