So - I recently just got screwed. I traded an HTC One for an iPhone 5s and some boot. The model # is an HTC 6500L. I guess after looking around this is a Verizon phone, I was lead to believe it was an ATT phone. Does anyone know how I can get 3G to work on this thing? It only shows edge and I was wondering if there was a workaround.

Verizon HTC's have "Verizon" etched on the back right about the"beatsaudio" logo, you sure it is Verizon?

Well it says HTC6500L as the model # and it says Verizon. It doesn't have a Verizon logo though.

^^ I should rephrase that better. It doesn't say Verizon on the phone anywhere - however, when I google the model # I provided you guys with it shows up as Verizon
What about the boot animation? Verizon one's have a Verizon logo on the boot animation.

That's kinda odd no Verizon logo...
could be like a beta phone before it was officially released??
can you get a pic please of the back of the phone??
Something like this should come up if you go to Settings > About > Phone identity. From what you wrote, I can't tell whether you've been given a genuine Verizon One or a shoddy fake. The back of the phone should have the Verizon logo, "4G LTE", and a bunch of small print etched in the bottom, one of which is "FCC ID: NM8PN07310".
if it's saying that model but no verizon logo, it was likely either scratched off or has verizon software flashed onto it by mistake.
the verizon logo is pretty hard to miss..
http://swappa.com/esn
this ought to be able to tell you your carrier
It could be a Verizon LTE in Rural America partner phone such as cellcom, thumb cellular, pioneer or bluegrass cellular.

Nothing like that. It says HTC in green and has a white background, goes black, then says htc again and one under it in black font, and then it boots to the desktop.

Probably a dumb question, but you don't know til ya ask.
It is running HTC Sense, correct?
And if so, can you get us a screen shot of, or just post, what version you are on, what radio # you have, any information helps.
You should be able to just pop your ATT SIM card in from my understanding, but I am not 100%, but I thought i read it works, but best you will get is 2g.
Also, it looks like this is what you have?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/301039841160?lpid=82
same model #, and no Verizon Wireless logo.
Your volume buttons look different from that pic, but thats a horrible picture so who knows.
they look white, instead of the silver.
From what I can see in the FCC teardown of the Verizon One, it includes an Avago ACPM-7081 power amplifier for GSM 2G and 3G. That chip supports band 1 and band 8 for 3G, which equal 900 MHz and 2100 MHz, neither of which are frequencies used in the US.
I'll have to dig deeper into this to find out for sure, but it seems like the Verizon model only supports 2G on AT&T and T-Mobile.

Yeah. What you most likely have is an unbranded Verizon One meant for the regional carriers that piggyback on Verizon's network. Seems like you can only get 3G when roaming overseas.
So I can't use 4G or HSPA+? I'm stuck with Edge?
in this thread ( cant post link, but here's the thread #) t=2437239
it says that you can do it? like I said, I don't need the LTE, just the 3G/HSPA
I did a google search on the software number, under the softrware information tab, in the about section. It gave me a software number of "1.12.557.7", which, when I googled, produced a link I can't post which shows that it's a WWE region and it was designed for UTSTARCOM? What carrier is that?

Nope. We are a GSM carrier, while Verizon is CDMA. Two very different technologies.

You're not going to be even able to use the phone on verizon unless you open it up, and replace some circuits on the inside... then the firmware.. sounds like a fun project if you are into that.
Tell your friend he is going to have to suck it up or buy a new phone.
No, We already got it working for 3G. We took the sim card out of his Droid 3 Global while I was on vacation and put it in an unlocked Samsung Galaxy, worked fine. I am back in arizona and we have 4g here (were he lives they do not) and I just bought another sgs2 and when I take the sim out of my Droid 3 global will it work 4g aslong as 3g? So after looking around, you might be able to do it.
Just try it because apparently you have everything you need on hand.
But you will not be able to make calls from it.
I suppose that means you got a mini ipad or something.
You'll get 3G at max, probably edge since t-mobile uses HPSA+ instead of LTE bands.
There are so many Samsung Galaxy phones it is easy to get mixed up. Im just letting them know that Tmobile phones CANT work on Verizon, completely different technologies used.

verizon
I have a stock sgh-m919 and I gave my imei to Verizon over the phone, they stated they could not use my phone on a prepaid plan, but I did not inquire about a contract plan. Visit a store and ask questions.
I realize Verizon is CDMA, but I have seen those radio ROMs somewhere to change the frequency of the radio. I think it would require more than that, perhaps even an imei change, I don't really know, I'm just going out on a limb here.
From what I understand Verizon does use the 700Mhz band like AT&T but they use a different portion of the band, the upper is what I read. Google 700Mhz LTE, I think that it will come up.
good luck, let me know how that turns out.
Also, my mother has a Iphone 4S on Verizon and although I don't really like apple products, I do know that it has a sim card slot, so that taken into consideration, perhaps there is hope.

I have an unlocked at&t phone on tmobile's network. just got it today. it's completely stock except for the fact that it's unlocked. and i'm fully aware that this is an at&t forum, but the phone for all intents and purposes is built by/for at&t.
there's an icon in my notification area that says "t-mobile" (pictured). anyone know why this occurs?? when i pull down the notification area, there is nothing that corresponds to this icon. it's taking up too much space for absolutely no (discernible) reason.

It's telling you which network you're logged into. With an AT&T sim in, it would say AT&T up there. This is not terribly useful when you're on your home network but indispensable when you're roaming abroad. Many networks have roaming partners, so, if you were in Italy for example, you may find that being on WIND was about 10% of the price than being on VODAFONE. Also, if you're near a border area, you really don't want it roaming onto a foreign network when it could be using your local one.
The stock touchwiz roms have this up on the top left. CM based roms tend to just have it on the lock screen (from what I can tell).
TMobile has a different 3g frequency setup than AT&T which is why your phone is using Edge (2g+). I saw a way on the these forums to unlock the AWS band which may be worth looking at.

I will tell you. The answer is no. I'm in Korea KT is CDMA. The data side works, UMTS B1 & LTE B1 B2 & B8 but the voice calls do not work. In phone drops even LTE if/when I attempt to make a call. Calls over Wifi isn't an option either since my carrier doesn't support it. Over here everyone uses VOIP anyways. Im not bothered by the lack of calling I rarely even use my 'phone' anyways. Plus I'm hoping to get back to the states soon and I will be back on AT&T.

I purchased the Razer phone and am using Verizon with it. There is a work around that their tier 2 tech team can do. They add your line just on their LTE(GSM) network ( No band 13 CDMA is utilized). So if you are in an area that has good to great LTE signal then you can get the phone. Mine works great at work and outdoors. My only issue is at home. I always had one bar with all my other phones and now I have no service. I am waiting for a Samsung 4g LTE extender from Verizon so that I can correct that issue.
Rumor has it, Verizon will make the shift to just LTE by the end of 2018. If and when this happens, CDMA band and cellphones will no longer work with their network.
Hope I helped anyone who has the phone or wants to buy it. Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays.
Ok I got mine working on LTE as well but there's no phone capabilities. Sure u can send text and surf the internet but u can't make phone calls.

I used Verizon's live chat initially. Reason for this is I was able to save the conversation and use it as a reference when I had to call back and got another rep. Also, good way for the tier 2 tech team to catch up. It took some time and persistence to get it right. Once the chat rep exhausts all their troubleshoots, they will escalate it to tier 2. A threat about me leaving and going elsewhere was used on one occasion.
It did take time and patience but I think the phone is worth the trouble. My Razer works just as well as my GS 7 edge. Just a reminder. It is on LTE only, so if you hit an area without LTE you will not function.

I did my own questioning with this and simply stuck my SIM card from my Google phone into my Razer and for while it worked but I noticed it didn't stick.
So I called Verizon and they told me that because my sim card was registered to my Google phone I would need to go and get a new sim and stock it into the Razer and it would then work on LTE and would stick

I am going to say no and you should try live chat again. I had ported out when I first got this phone back around Thanksgiving and I couldn't stand it and wanted back in to Verizon. When I came back in, they activated a new sim using a pixel 2, popped it in my phone and did some configs on their end. You do not need a new sim if your current sim is on a phone that has LTE service with same OS and on Verizon already.
What do u have ur settings set to because where I was verison couldn't get it working
I bought an g7 on ebay to use on tello a sprint mvno and upon putting in a sprint SIM card I got from sprint for this phone I get service disabled and no bars. I got another sprint sim and Same thing. I tried my wife’s iphone5 verizion SIM card in it and immediately had bars and functioning data but no calls or text. I’ve called sprint and tello and they both say it’s on my end and I believe them. Do I need to flash the modem? Can I do anything or should I return it or will the next one have same problems? Any help greatly appreciated
Does the phone you bought support the correct bands?

Write that in a reply here but also call sprint DIRECTLY and ask to speak to a HIGH LEVEL tech--not the basic clown monkey, but someone who actually knows what they are talking about.
Give them the bands and modes shown on the white sticker on the box and see if they can make it work.
If you want to change bands, dial *#546368#*710#
Then go to field test and engineering mode and you can change the LTE bands there. Find out which bands are supported.
You can also change the GSM modes but they had better be on the phone to tell you what to set.
After changing any bands, go to network mode and set it to automatic, or phone calls will not connect at all.

Thanks for the reply. So I’m learning more about the phone as I go, there was no phone box, it just came in a simple brown shipping box. So on the phone itself there’s a sticker that says the meid as being a sprint version of the phone but when you check the settings it’s a different unlocked version. So I’m thinking some one rooted/unlocked a sprint version and resold it. Which okay, so now does that mean I can’t get updates? I’ve never rooted a phone so this is new to me. If i switch carriers and get the network working will I still not have the updates I want?

Sorry I cannot help with this as I have no knowledge of these things.
My phone was an official retail box that had the "made in korea" sticker on it, the model number, three barcodes (dual sim) and all of the bands supported.
If yours didnt have this, you probably should just return the phone.
Always make sure you buy NEW, boxed phones and not third party.
