[Q] How to contact HTC? - not dupe - HTC One X

I tried:
- Facebook -> no effect
- Twitter -> no use, only used for maketing, they don't answer
- Email -> The site (both local and global English) just throws me to the main page, and nothing happens. I get no mail that I submitted my message, I get no message on the website that my message was sent OK. I get nothing. Just throws me to the main page and that's it.
Tried both pages as I said, no effect.
There is also a phone contact, but I doubt I could reach anyone there.
The story:
I could use my phone and was satisfied with it (HOX) for half a year. Then it started dying, and spent the rest in service.
Been using my old Nokia ever since. (What a joke...)
Now I'm really, really fed up. Yes, I waited patiently weeks, months, read the fake/forged repair documents and whatnot...
But it's just useless. There is no effect whatsoever.
Even if they list that they changed the moon or... whatever, they did not. They spit lies in your face, in the form of a huge list on an A4 paper.
So I want to reach someone who could help me.
Story:
- Phone first had difficulties waking up in any weather/heat condition.
- After a while phone could not wake up in cold temperatures at all. (Not outside cold, just below 15C.)
- Then it started having glitching screen, and the lock-up issue did not go away.
- I changed the SIM cards and returned the phone.
Took them weeks to get it fixed, and when I got it back, I could not even turn it back on.
Asked the service that "wtf?!" and he said "you are right"... Just what the hell?
What the f. did the service people doing in there? Like... "well, let's write a lot of things on a list and that will surely fix it!"
So he took the phone back and the phone was in service again.
Fast forward weeks again, the phone is back.
- I didn't want to waste time with contacts transfer (it's an ass. HTC provides no tools, software support is outright ****.)
- So I sat down and I had glitches in the menu when scrolling. As I said I did not use the phone prior, because either I use one phone, or the other phone.
- And after a few minutes of use, when the chip started heating up (tegra), the phone locked up and the screen went off.
tl;dr: the phone been through many repairs and it's A BRICK. A PERFECT PAPER-WEIGHT.
If you are thinking of buying a HTC device: Don't do it man. It sucks.
The software you get is a joke (on PC), it does not help. MyPhoneExplorer is like the only way to KINDA transfer data, but even that fails. I'm a programmer, I spent days on fixing problems regarding this. I don't even know how a normal person could transfer their contact list.
And this is just one problem. As you can see build quality/quality and warranty is the other thing.
My entire county is crying on the local HTC wall that their phones are plagued with problems and no one cares about them. I want A PHONE after I paid so much money.

HTC Desire FOTA update 1.21.405.2 PROBLEMS

Hi everyone,
Latest Desire update has ben bringin a lot of problems to a lot of people. Apparently Wi-fi is not working properly, missing apps in the market which are already installed on the phone, battery issues....to name few. This affects branded and non branded phones...as far as I know.
I already contacted HTC and Vodafone (because in this case my update came thru Vodafone with a different firmware number but in fact it's exaclty same update) and they are sending me back and forth to each other. Bad service... Both companies are not willing to help at this moment.
A good example are ADW Launcher and LauncherPro. Both launcher can't be found in the Market anymore (check comments on developer's websites). People are downloading apks from their websites directly. Also QuickSettings is not to be found anywhere.
Wi-fi is not working for some of us.
And some people mentioned that battery life has dramatically improved/got worse.
WHAT'S HAPPENING?!?!?!?!
Has anyone experienced similar problems??? And better one....does anyone has a solution? Preferably without having to root your phone.
Quite a few problems here already mate
Endless problems. My phone will now loose it's connection to Orange. I have to reboot the phone to get it back. Sometimes it takes 3 or 4 reboots. Switching to Airplane mode only works sometimes, but usually results in my phone then telling me I do not have a SIM card inserted! Poor. Every time this happens, Wavesecure thinks someone has swapped my SIM out, and locks the phone up. Had to remove wavesecure (which is actually ridiculously easy so I wont be putting it back on) and I miss most of my calls.
Factory reset my phone in anticipation of what I knew HTC support would say. Did not put on any apps, left it as factory reset, all default settings, did not set google sync up. 7 hours later...no signal. SIM card works just fine in every other handset I've tried.
Phone is going back to HTC on Monday. If it returns in the same messed up state, i'll be looking at getting it rooted and having a proper radio and customr 2.2 ROM installed. I decided against rooting to avoid any bugs/issues. Seems that it's the likes of XDA and MoDaCo devs who know what they are doing more than HTC do. But I am new to Android. Lesson learnt.
I've had about 19 phones since 1998, and this is by far the most expensive, and the first one that has struggled with actually being a phone. Pathetic. HTC you'd better shine with your customer support. I have two friends with HTCs on pre-order on the strength of this phone. Mess this up and they'll cancel their orders and I can't blame them.
Motorolla anyone? Can you make and recieve calls on them? Yes? Hmmmm.......
I have updated my Desire which has not been altered in anyway and it now has a nifty text count next to the persons name whom the conversation is to. However my Desire now has to load to conversation and texts every time instead of previously just popping up. It also lags when i send a text when it updates the conversation. Is there any way round this as the phone was perfect until this why fix what was not broken
Has anyone had problems with their GPS since updating? Mine wont work at all now :-(
Erm.... this is a little embarrassing but I feel I need to own up to prevent misleading anyone. As mentioned in my earlier post in this thread, I have arranged with HTC customer support to send my Desire back for repair. They pick it up Monday.
I bought a cheap £10 phone to keep me going. It arrived this morning. I put the SIM card in and powered up the phone.
"No SIM card instered" was the message it greeted me with. After numerous power-up and power downs, and some SIM card hoakee-coakee, it finally recognised the SIM card......then dropped the signal to Orange. EXACTLY what my HTC Desire did.
Doh.
I had tried the SIM card in another phone (my girlfriends Blackberry) when the problems first started and it had worked straight away. But the SIM card seems to be random in it's failures. Should have tested more rigorously.
Sorry guys but in my instance it seems I have simply a faulty SIM card. The first one I have ever had go wrong in 12 years, but there you go. I was too fast to blame Android/HTC.
Weird. I have none of these issues.
My WiFi works fine.
I don't know about missing apps, my phone came preloaded with 1.21.405.2
Also, my battery is AMAZING. Right now it's on 70% While it's not been charged for 10h 40m 33s. And that is with 3G and quite some instant messaging.
And I just searched the market for ADW Launcher and LauncherPro. Could find them both.
Hi,
I updated my desire yesterday and since then i cannot send texts and constantly seem to be on 'limited' service or a very weak signal. i am on 02 as are other members of the household who are not experiencing any problems.
I've tried the quick fix of putting it in airplane mode but makes no difference what-so-ever.

Good luck with HTC's crappy repair centre. Mine's been in three times and they've sent it back once with dust under the screen, and once with a scratch -- every time taking longer than a week.
Still having problems here-the signal is loads better today but still cannot send or recieve texts...the odd one will get through but thats after its been sat retrying for half an hour.
Can make and recieve calls no problem.
Have also noticed the display is very slow to respond on a swipe, sometimes takes several attempts to move between homescreens.
I wish I'd not bothered with the update...if it ain't broke.....

[Q] Can we tell when our phone's been initially activated, all time minutes?

My friend is planning on buying a used EVO. He's wondering just "how used" it is though. Is there a way to tell when the phone was originally activated, and how many minutes have been used in the lifetime?
The amount of time that a person spent talking on the phone doesn't necessarily give you a good idea of how much it has been used. I don't talk on the phone often - maybe a couple of two or three minute calls here or there. When my boyfriend is out of town (about every other weekend) we talk for a while, but other than that I don't use the phone part of my phone very often. I do abuse the crap out of it though.
Even if someone talked on it constantly, it wouldn't mean problems would occur. My first two Evos were brand new. The charging port broke on the first one within a month. The second one had irreparable software issues that caused me to return it within two weeks. I've had this Evo for almost a year and it was refurbished.
I do know that there are dialer codes that will give you more information, like if it has been refurbished or not. I don't know what the codes are or what information you'll get from them, but it's a place to start. Maybe you can find them through a Google search or something.
Sent from my Evo + MIUI using Tapatalk!
I agree with plainjane on this. I use about 45 minutes per month on my phone. Sometimes I use less than that. However, I am a text and data whore. The first phone I had was brand new because I bought it the morning the Evo was released. Six hours later I was robbed at gunpoint and my phone was stolen. So I got a replacement. It spent some time as stock and then I rooted it. Phone worked perfectly but I had dropped it a few times. The case was cracked slightly but nothing too visible. Then I cracked the screen. So I got a third one. And this one has been physically treated like a baby but has been flashed to hell with various ROMs and software packages.
##786# gets you revererse logistics support. You can see all info and reset if you want, just saying
##786# will give you the activation date as well as call time history, data useage history, etc.

What do i do now that HTC has screwed me over?

Just to give you a brief rundown of everything that's happened..
I'm 17 and saved up for a few months to buy a HTC One X. Needless to say, it's probably the most expensive phone i've ever owned, since all my other phones were hand-me-downs and old phones from eBay.
This morning i wake up and go to work as usual. Just to find my phone's display won't switch on. As you can imagine, I'm tirelessly panicking and try the 3 button combo.. to no avail.
Using Fastboot to reboot didn't work either.
This phone turned into a brick overnight, and i have no idea what happened??
Just before i left for work, i did check my phone and it was working alright.. Then five minutes later, it won't display anything.
The thing is, I can't take it back to HTC either because this is my 5th replacement phone!
First one had black glue smudged on the LCD it's self,
Second one had the screen not glued down and wasn't aligned,
Third one didn't even have any glue applied and the case wasn't even attached properly,
Forth one had this problem where the screen's LCD would dilate if i touched it - even lightly,
and this one is my 5th, the antenna wasn't properly connected and now the screen doesn't work.
I've had terrible luck, and i don't know what i can do?
If you can give me any information to get me out of this, it would be much appreciated.
Although i still can receive text's and calls fine, it's just the display..
Since you’re unlocked and running a non-stock kernel and ROM, maybe some of the dev-ish folks can help you resuscitate it if it’s indeed a s/w problem.
If it’s a h/w problem, what to do depends on where you bought the phone and how old it is. If it’s within the remorse/DOA period maybe you can exchange it. It’ll be hard for whoever you bought it from to see you’ve unlocked it if nothing’s showing on the display.
If it’s outside of the exchange period you’ll have to send it in for repair. If you can’t bring it back to life to flash it back to stock you’ll have to throw yourself on the mercy of HTC Asia in getting it fixed unlocked. HTC's different repair centers seem to all have different policies related to warranty coverage for h/w faults on unlocked phones. If it is a dead display maybe you’ll get lucky.
You might want to put a note in with it telling your “I’m 17” story and how devastated you are something you’ve worked so hard for has failed. Repair techs are people too. Good luck.

I shook the device out of frustration.. and it started working for a few seconds.
What's going on here? Is it a faulty display/connection? Is there a way to possibly just send it to a nearby phone shop and get it fixed?
Sorry about all the questions, I'm shocked, happy, and devastated all at the same time.
Are HTC refusing then? That seems a bit off/ illegal... Surely under the faulty goods act (I assume the law isn't THAT different in Australia to UK) they have to take it back as it CAN'T be a year old and they can't prove the issue was caused by your mistreatment. It doesn't matter how many phones you've had... Also, where did you buy the phone from? I think you should be able to return it through the shop as THEY sold you the phone, not HTC... They are still under an obligation as they sold you the thing.
Plus, the 'I'm a 17 year old and saved up for ages thing' might work too! I'd try not to get too technical with the law if you go down this route though!
Best of luck sorting this out. It's within your rights to get a replacement (you bought the phone new, I assume?) so I'm sure this will eventually work out. Don't give up! You just need to speak/ write to the right person...

What rom were you on?
I remember my One X not charging at all while it was turned off completely although it showed Orange charging led.
It could be that you ran out of battery and phone not turning on. Due to no charging effect.
@Op,
Reading your story there's one thing that's crossing my mind.
Could it be possible the battery run dry during the night?
It sounds stupid but those things you forget easy when you're in a hurry or stressed.
I don't read anything in your post you tried to charge.

Yes. But not in every region (yet). Do a search. It's been disucssed. Also, it appears Samsung's going down the same path.

Aware of the discussion... Using the xda app and didn't pick up that the phone's been 'HTCdev'd (my fault for not reading properly - sorry, folks!). Still not sure HTC/ Samsung can legally 'sign your rights away' though. Still, not a discussion for here...
Hope you got the phone sorted anyway.

[Q] SD card fried up

So I'm chillin last night on my PC with my HOX next to me on the couch when suddenly it restarts and goes into bootloader with some red text under the htc logo. It was stock JB unlocked and would not boot no matter what. If I tied it to my pc and hit recovery it would say SD init fail or something like that.
When trying to restart (done it like 2kk times also tried to do anything in bootloader but nothing seemed to work) it would do random things like getting stuck at the htc logo, getting stuck at the htc logo with red text under it, trying to boot then crashing with a lovely buzz or going directly to bootloader. Also a couple of times it got into a broken bootloader with broken text all over the screen. When I left it at the carrier's store it wouldn't start at all.
Now for the question... Are they going to replace my device? From my tech savvy but not pro point of view the SD card is fried. Not even a month ago the HOX went into service for multiple yellow zones and came back with small cracks on the body which I didn't see at first. The SD is welded to the mobo so the motherboard has to be replaced altogether right? Prying apart my HOX multiple times due to manufacturing problems is not on my agenda. Also the gasket between the screen and the body sits lower now so it gathers dust in the said place. I'm really not enjoying this frankenphone anymore.
It's been just over half a year and my phone's been sitting in service for a cumulative month. That is not cool by my standards.
This is my first HTC and it may be my last. Also I'm thinking of ending a 15Y contract with Orange Romania if I don't get a new device this week.. Very, very sad. Also while waiting for my number to be called at the store, my car got towed and lost another 100E because of this S****Y phone and S****Y service because the only two stores that handle service are downtown and parking is a b***h.

Heres my advice to you:
I've been a HTC owner for around 3 / 3 and a half years. Absolutely loved them at first but seriously, they've let their standards slip. They've actually publicized the fact that they're crumbling, by sacking half their CEO's so something is obviously seriosly wrong internally.
I love my HOX but will NEVER (atleast for a couple of year) buy a HTC again. They shut dev's down for no reason and with no warning. Their updates are atrocious and they replace parts in service centers that are generic rubbish parts. I know they've replaced friends LCD's with generic LCDs and not the SLCD2.
Some more advice for you, is although it may not be Orange's fault, I would almost certainly (if you really have been with them 15 year) tell them that you are leaving. They WILL NOT, let you go. They will offer you deals that will be unrivaled and you should be put through to a department called "Customer Retention's" if you get here, WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER. You'll easily leave with a much better deal than your on now, and I'm saying that without even knowing what you're getting, this is just how Mobile Providers work.
Hope this helps, best of luck !!
Thanks for the support.. I've done that but I got no reaction whatsoever just the regular "this is all we can do". Probably due to the fact that most of this time the contract was on my parent's name from 99 to 2005. Either way... is the whole motherboard swapped in case of a dead SD? And if so, do they swap the whole device? I've stated firmly that I do not want a repaired device (twice, badly) exactly because of the fact that I can't be sure of the parts used (this last part was not stated)
Very sad
So it's been 16 days now and Orange's service contractor has yet to receive a replacement motherboard. I think I'm going to report this to the police as theft as 15 days is the most they can keep my device in service according to the service contract.
I have also stated that I will only accept a replacement as they have to change the mobo, case and screen. Case and screen due to s****y service the last time. That didn't seem to matter at all. They think I am going to accept a phone entirely built in Romania out of replacement parts. Ha! This time I have the law on my side as they didn't respect our contract. It's gonna be a new phone in retail packaging or nothing.
Gave up on HTC and Orange. I'm only happy that I've just finished med school and I have all the time in the world to file complaints and even to turn up in courts.

Anyone having problems with HTC Repair?

My 10 doesnt like to receive calls, it seems the problem hasnt been fixed using all the various software procedures (flash, RUU,...). Strange because I get calls sometimes, other times they simply get sent to voicemail. Also checked with carrier, no problems.
Authorized device exchange nearly 2 months ago, and HTC still has not said any word of swapping my device. The service is terrible, they keep telling me they have no further information. HTC placed a hold on my card the same day I authorized it. Long story short, I am not getting any updates, and Im left with a works 50% of the time device, it hasnt been a year even...
Anyone else having a hard time with HTC?
On principle I should never buy HTC again... too bad, i love this phone
I had a lot of trouble with an exchange several months back. I'm not going to go into detail because it was too painful. There's another thread somewhere around in these sections about this subject.
