Hi,
I read a few threads on XDA as well as on other forums, but none that could address my specific issue. I have an HTC ONE X which was on 4.1.1 (rooted) as it is a phone bought from HK and the seller unlocked it for use in India.
The camera was working perfectly when it was on 4.1.1 and Sense 4, however I gave it to a shop to upgrade it to 4.2.2 and Sense 5. The phone is working perfectly, only issue is that the camera does not focus at all either for close or far objects, so its completely useless. .
The guy who did it says he cannot downgrade it and i am not much experienced in Rooting etc.Attached are the screen shot of my phone's current state (of firmware/kernel) , as i read somewhere that flashing an upgraded kernel fixed a similar issue for one user on XDA.
The phone is out of warranty so cant send it back to HTC.
Also, When i boot the phone by pressing the volume down and power button the screen shows ****UNLOCKED*** at the top
Now i know that it is not expected from the members to completely guide me from a dummies perspective, but if someone can guide me towards a solution , i would be more than willing to read up stuff and learn.
Looking forward to getting support from fellow XDA members as usual

And if you want to flash recovery to install custom rom you need to flash PHILZ 5.x version, because your bootloader version is high and on any other your touch in recovery won't work.
And yeah you can instal any ruu

Hi,
So basically if I get it right :
1. Put the phone in Fast boot by pressing the power button and voulume down. .
2. Run the RUU file (.exe) as administrator . .
3. How do make sure phone is locked (or unlocked) and what is this step for ?
Is this like installing official RUU from HTC ? I just want to install/update to a different image as my camera is not working
Reboot in bootloader and it will say on top Locked or unlocked or relocked. To flash ruu phone has to be locked or relocked. Yours I think it is unlocked. You need to relock it. Check tho and see what it says.

Can you just clarify one thing. .loading this RUU is basically like loading an official RUU by HTC ? So for that i basically i have to lock the bootloader again ? It is a reversible process right ?
This is official ruu by HTC. It will downgrade you to 4.1.1 to see if the camera will work again. From there you will get ota to the latest version if u want.

Oh i see. . How do i get to know if its 4.1.1 ? THere are two kind of RUUs..
1. OTA_ENDEAVOR_U_JB_45_S_hTC_Asia_TW_3.14.709.16-2.17.709.7_release_290501b59ldhm19jb48jdy.zip

Try the .708. which matches yours. The first one is OTA.

1. Your bootloader is unlocked, so if you want to flash rom that's good, but if you want to instal ruu you must lock it
2. Flash 5.x version, because on 5.x you won't have problem with touchscreen, i think that 6.x version has touch problem
3. Yeah that's fine
4. Flash custom kernel in recovery, than reboot in bootloader and flash boot.img from kernel.zip via fastboot

Thanks for all the help guys. .with your help i was able to install the custom ROM. However it did not solve the camera issue. .
So i have to now try with 4.1.1 as it was earlier working with this version. .
So I have one doubt :
Before relocking the bootloader and installing stock 4.1.1 RUU as suggested by members here, can i try loading "Clean Rom 4.1.1 Version" on the existing setup ? I mean my phone is on 4.2.2, so can i install a ROM which is based on 4.1.1 ?
Or do you suggest i relock the bootloader and put 4.1.1 only ?
I had the same issue with the camera when i upgraded to the latest version. After a while I noticed that I can make the camera focus nicely when on close shot by knocking the phone. Guess the best way or traditional way of solving problem is still knocking...
Well knocking doesnt help in my case. .
CAn i directly flash a 4.1.1 based custom ROM on a 4.2.2 based custom ROM ?

first thing you need unlocked bootloader to flash anything like recovery and all..
after unlocking bootloader u can flash roms and all & also root ur phone..
since if never root your phone..stock rom still in ur phone..nothing changed.
so you just need to factory reset via hboot menu..
if you wana root your phone..
unlock bootloader via htcdev and use htcsupertool..
then you can flash cwm recovery via hboot and also then you can flash stock rom too..if your phn still stuck at htc logo..
and also if u nvr root phn u cn directly go to service center they cn flash stock rom easily and that ll solve ur prob fast

hmm what is ur software version 2.13 or 2.26 because in htcdev if you have 2.13 you have to download file or if 2.26 you dont have to.
and second without unlocking bootloader ruu won't work.
if you have unlocked bootloader+cwm recovery then you can flash any ruu.

so after days of searching and trying i still cant revive my wfs
so far what i've done
> download and tried different ruu from shippedroms > gives me error 131
> i tried the wfs all in one toolkit > when i try to get token id i get a command error
> ruu from htcdev gives me an error 191
> when i try to flash images (hboot, system, recovery) > give a checksum or something like that error
^^ i think this because im not rooted or boot loader unlocked
i haven't tried creating a gold card using it and that would be my next step
my question is can i try making it using another phone (a xperia x10 mini)?
or do i need another wfs?

With goldcard you can flash any ruu but still im confused about your phone version.
Its marvel(GSM) OR marvelc(CDMA)?
But for using goldcard you need two things:
Bootloader unlocked
Cwm recovery

Nopes..sony and htc are different.if you want to create goldcard you need your phone ,sdcard and computer.
Because sdcard uses as copy CID.and you cnt use x10 mini goldcard.
But still you needs unlocked bootloader and cwm recovery to use bl-tool..then you can flash any ruu..
Dnt compare both phone.they are different..
First you need to unlocked ur phone..goldcard and all things comes later if you your phone is bricked and you need stock rom, update radio etc.
EDIT:
first of all you need to root your phone, your bootloader is not updated so you need to update is via htcdev.and then root it.still htcdev not working.i have no idea how to unlock it.

Hello,
Here´s the problem.
I have here a HTC One X, engineer model. (fully factory unlocked)
The problem is that he has 2.17.401.2 and works OK. But can´t upgrade to any version above.
As he came:
Bootloader Unlocked
Model : ENDEAVORU XC Ship S-Off RH
CID : HTC__001
Hboot - 1.12.0000
CPLD - None
MICROP - None
Radio -
eMMC-bootmode : disabled
CPU-bootmode : disabled
HW Secure boot : disabled
Modem PATH : Off
Tried to update by RUU to 3.14.401.31 (I believe it´s the latest official), but an error came along about image error.
So I manually, updated the HBoot to 1.39.0000, and the RUU update now get´s complete, but the phone restart few seconds after power on. And recovery get´s the same restart cycle.
So, I update to RUU 2.17.401.2 and everything works again.
Changed the CID to 1111111 (supercid)
Flashed again the 3.14 and now he is at this point:
Code:
C:\Fastboot>fastboot getvar all
INFOversion: 0.5a
INFOversion-bootloader: 1.39.0000
INFOversion-baseband: 5.1204.162.29
INFOversion-cpld: None
INFOversion-microp: None
INFOversion-main: 3.14.401.31
INFOserialno: HT21LWxxxxx
INFOimei: 35918xxxxxxxx
INFOproduct: endeavoru
INFOplatform: HBOOT-T30S
INFOmodelid: PJ461****
INFOcidnum: 11111111
INFObattery-status: good
INFObattery-voltage: 3873mV
INFOdevpower: 60
INFOpartition-layout: None
INFOsecurity: off
INFObuild-mode: SHIP
INFOboot-mode: FASTBOOT
INFOcommitno-bootloader: None
INFOhbootpreupdate: 2
INFOgencheckpt: 0
all: Done!
Code:
C:\Fastboot>fastboot getvar version-main
version-main: 2.17.401.2
But at any time, I can downgrade to 2.17 or 1.29 and make it work.
BTW, I also tried other methods... when on 2.17, tried to update by CWM with zip file. Relocked the bootloader, unlocked it again... Tried to restore a nandroid backup from a 3.14.** working unit... but all ended in a restart loop. So always came back to 2.17 and get it working.
I think the problem in this unit remains here:
Code:
INFOmodelid: PJ461****
Should be PJ46100... or PJ4610000
If I try to write it on fastboot
Code:
fastboot oem writemid PJ46100
Command error !!!
Not sure if write model ID is supported on this unit.
Any way of writting the model id? or solve the main issue of not updating to 3.14?
Thank you
The model id was fine, what is the name of the files are you trying to flash and what command you used ?

I am not sure for engineer version, but did you try to do steps like for "normal" One x when you do RUU flash! Need to lock bootloader and in win based systems with administrator control run RUU as administrator, and with phone in fastoboot mode.. I know that's you phone have unlock bootloader and S-Off but try..
And for use of nandroid backup that you mention did you try after flashing backup flash boot.img also..

Hi Drug_Store,
I have same problem. not able to upgrade to JB.
hboot 1.12. Super CID. S-Off. Ver: 2.17.401.2.
Tried all possible things. still no use., boot loop.
Are you able to flash any JB rom apart from RD-MIUI?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1817633
Super CID, not able to upgrade to JB
mods, any inputs on the above?
Having the same issue
I'm having the same issue.
My phone is currently at RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_S_HTC_Europe_2.17.401.2_Radio_2.1204.135.20_release_274900
but if I try to update it with RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_JB_45_S_HTC_Europe_3.14.401.31_R_Radio_5.1204.162.29_release_302015_signed
OTA will download the file fine and wipe the phone, then in the recovery menu (stock) it will reboot after 10 seconds of "installing".
All other RUU's or manual flashes fail and end up in a boot loop.
try to set another CID which is for exmaple from WWE so that it will download for sure the update...maybe it's due to supercid
Didnt work

As long as your on the right Hboot you should be ok flashing ARHD or any other Jelly Bean custom rom of your choice.
I have a HTC Wildfire S, its a GSM device and I bought it from Vodafone a year ago, its still under warranty. It came with 2.3.3 pre-installed but I OTA updated it to 2.3.5. I unlocked the bootloader using the guide from htcdev, rooted it and installed Clockworkmod Recovery and backed up my current stock rom. I have installed Marvellous Sense 2.1 Cyanogenmod 7.1 on my Wildfire S and I ran into a problem with my phone, the POWER button needs a little bit of strength in order to actually work (I took the phone once to the beach and the button has been malfunctioning ever since) so I'm thinking of sending it to Vodafone to repair the button, my Wildfire S is SIM Unlocked (I went to those 'specialized stores' to unlock it, my guess is they used an unlock code for it) so I don't know if Vodafone will actually notice it, so I'm thinking of locking the bootloader again (not relock it) and then proceed to use the right RUU for my radio version, however I am dead afraid of bricking my phone, so can I get a little help with this? My theory is as it follows:
1- Leave the clockworkmod recovery installed and the custom rom as well
2- Lock the bootloader using a bootloader tool (I forgot the name of it)
3- Run the correct RUU for my radio version (7.57.39.10M)
4- Hopefully the RUU will delete the custom recovery and custom rom
5- Device would be back to normal with a completely stock ROM almost as untouched
Is this the correct proceeding? Also my stock Vodafone rom has a lot of portuguese Vodafone crapware installed which I don't think its in the original RUU for this phone (I might be wrong) I've been reading around XDA forum by forum and gathering everything I can get to safely restore my phone for warranty issues but I'm afraid I might f*ck it up, specially since it wasn't cheap and it was a brand new phone.
Thanks for the help guys :good:

Hi your procedure is correct and will work allowing the ruu has the correct cid for your phone.
An alternative would be to flash a stock rooted rom, and tear open the rom.zip from the ruu you have and then re-add your vodaphone boot animation.
And if your really stuck you could post a link to the ruu and i could make a safe flash rom from recovery, and pass you over the stock recovery as well. Then the plan would be
Nandroid backup
Wipe everything
Flash rom
Boot to fastboot
Flash stock recovery
Reboot and check all is well
Bootloader to lock bootloader
Profit lol also, last thing. Htc records when people unlock their bootloaders and you may have voided your warranty in the process. Just a thought

I'm aware of that, but even so I don't believe that alone voids my warranty because on HTCDEV's website it says it *may* void it, all I care is to bypass Vodafone's smartass checking, so basically I have to extract the rom.zip the RUU temporary creates, flash it everything (boot.img, system.img, recovery.img) through fastboot, reboot and check the rom's status and then finally use the tool to lock (not relock) the bootloader, can't I just wipe everything, lock the bootloader and use the correct RUU?
Also thanks.

You could assuming that it has a higher software version than yours, higher hboot and the correct cid you can by all means run the ruu. If you extract the rom.zip you will see a file called android.info or androidinfo.txt open it in a text editor and lists several Cid's that it will work for.
If you issue the following command via fastboot mode it will output lots of useful information about your phone including your cid.
Fastboot getvar all
Assuming everything matches up then by all means make a nandroid then run the bootloader tool, Then the ruu. The ruu wont run on an unlocked bootloader, and when you get your device back all nice and repaired you can just restore your nandroid backup and your back to were you left off

I have a backup of my vodaphone stock rom when I first rooted and installed clockworkmod, however that rom is rooted (but unmodified, clean 100% stock rom updated from OTA when I got it) I only made a backup after rooting it.
Can I just restore that backup, re-flash recovery to remove the root (I tried the rom's own recovery but that didn't remove root, superuser was still there) and then use the HTC bootloader tool to lock the bootloader?

Yeah restore the back up and flash the stock recovery. Then install SuperSU from the play market. It will state that it has compatibility issues with all other superuser apps and remove them upon request. Then from supersu's app menu select full unroot and it will remove all traces of it then relock the hboot using the tool.

Version-main is empty as a result of flashing a buggy TWRP and CID is superCID thus hard to tell. MID would fit for 154.401 as well as 2.22.401 recovery. To be sure a question. Are you still running stock ROM. If yes you could check setting > about phone > software information > software number. If you are running a custom ROM this information is likely not to be valid. o2 Germany stock ROM e.g. has a x.xx.207.xx version number

If you flash Philz Recovery, you will at least be able to get your version-main back and then you'll be able to look for that version in the Stock Recovery Section.
You CID should probably either be O2___001 or O2___002..

Hi John
Can i install Philz alongside TWRP?
Also i downloaded Build prop editor and under "ro.aa.cidlist" has the following cid numbers
htc 001
htc e11
htc 102
htc 203
htc 405
etc. Are they relevant?
Philz will overwrite TWRP as you can only run one recovery at a time.
This list names CID of different carriers.

How long ago did you get the phone, and have you done any OTA updates since you've had it.
If you bought it before March/April (ish) and haven't done any updates then it's likely that you're on the 1.12.206.17 version.
If you've done an OTA since then you'll probably be on 1.54.206.5... in which case try this, this is the stock recovery for 1.54.206.5..
There are Backups for both versions in the Stock Backups Page.
This is for the 1.12.206.17
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B_9hxg3el0DpN2xpbkx6NGkwRE0/edit?pli=1
And this is for the 1.54.206.5

HBOOT 3.18 ? You updated the OTA to latest 4.4.3?
If so then you're fresh out of luck, I don't see any 2.xx.206/207.x stock recoveries for O2(UK/German) devices. Even on the German forum they only have the 1.54.206.5/10 ones.
Only choices you have then is to either:
1) convert - Seeing as you are S-OFF
2) roll back to older version and go through update again this time taking a backup of stock recovery. Flash old Firmware, you can probably get tutorials on here somewhere on how to do it.
3) scout the mobile phone boards(locally) and see if someone can drop you a stock recovery or
4) Wait until someone uploads a stock recovery.
In order to provide these stock recoveries, we need people to upload them and share the links and as you can see, guys like you don't do it! So we're stuck with no backups to share with guys in similar position like yourself
Good Luck!

I take it they rolled out the latest 4.4.3 for the customers. Honestly I wasn't keeping tabs on whether they rolled or not. I just saw the HBOOT version and thought that he might have updated to 4.4.3 because as far as I know it only changed to 3.18 with 4.4.3 before then it was 3.16. I could be wrong though?
I suppose if the OP didn't flash any custom ROMs etc he could just go to settings > about > software information, and confirm either way

He's already on Android Revolution HD.
There's a link to the 1.54.206.5 firmware on the Android Revolution Site, but would it work with the wrong version-main in the android-info.txt
http://xda7.androidrevolution.org/db_mirror/Firmware/index.php?dir=HTC/HTC_One_M8/206/
I think the way I got my version-main back, was to flash a different version stock recovery, it wouldn't work because it was the wrong version number, it just kept dropping back to HBoot, but it did bring it back when I then reflashed CWM / Philz.

What I meant was.. You probably had the right recovery or at least knew what one you needed.
It's a similar situation to one that I was in the other day. I had no version-main, so I didn't know which recovery to flash. So I took a guess and flashed a stock recovery for my device, it didn't work because it was the wrong one, but it did give me my version-main back in getvar all.
I then flashed back to Philz Recovery because I had no recovery. Once I knew the version main, I managed to find the recovery... :good:

To confirm I am on 4.4.3. I will see what comes along in near future. Should of read a few more posts before rooting.. Again help appreciated.

Hi Rlumby.
I was just wondering why you want to return to the stock recovery. Do you need to to send it back, so you need to return it back to it's original condition or do you want to keep it open for OTA's, etc...
Since you are S-Off and SuperCID, I don't see any reason why you couldn't flash another carriers firmware, or like BerndM14 said, maybe convert it to a Developer Edition or a GPE Edition.. It will wipe everything so if you do go down this road, make sure you back everything up first...
...John...
Hi John.
It was just an option should I choose to. Now you mention it I may go for developer edition. Will check out what's out there.

Hi,
I have an UK HOX which is running CM11. I am giving it my father and want to revert to stock beforehand. I don't have a nandroid backup & can't seem to find one which will work. Is this possible or will I be stuck on CM?
I'm currently on HBOOT 1.36 & radio 5.1204 (not sure if that's relevant). Please let me know if there's more info I can provide.

Hi just read the thread properly, I have confused you in my pm, Thant is right, your on hboot 1.36 so you need my nand not glenbrownies. This is the stock nand from before the jb update which has the hboot version 1.1? You will need to update in settings about phone check for updates and you'll then have sense 5 installed.
You can install a nand which has a lower hboot version but not a nand that has a higher hboot version.

Can I just get one last noob question out the way - in the nandroid backup folder, are they both the stock boot.img and recovery.img I need to flash after restoring? Or do I need to find a separate stock boot & recovery img?
I've successfully reverted back to stock. Only issue I have now is that the official OTA update won't install. It downloads and boots into the stock recovery, then about a third of the way up the progress bar the process stops and the recovery icon changes to the red triangle with the exclamation mark in it.
I've also tried it again after doping a factory reset with no luck. Any experience with this happening?

This is the stock nand from before the jb update which has the hboot version 1.1? You will need to update in settings about phone check for updates and you'll then have sense 5 installed.
You can install a nand which has a lower hboot version but not a nand that has a higher hboot version.

I've flashed the stock recovery & still no joy. Also tried flashing the 'firemware.zip' file from the OTA and trying to install the it manually with no success, either.

Just flashed the recovery from the firmware.zip file & the OTA update fails at same stage.
My bootloader is unlocked, should it be relocked for this to work?
Edit: Relocked bootloader & tried with the same result. I noticed the hboot img file in the 'firmware' zip is a higher version than mine (1.36) ... Would it be worth flashing this then trying again?

don't use the recovery from OTA update use previos one or this for your main version and must be recovery for your main version
other way is to lock the bootloader flash firmware.zip then flash custom rom or stock nandroid backup. But you need to see your main version again after flashing the zip

Awesome, that's worked! Got the JB update restored, runs great! It does say there's another update to install but I get an HTC error saying basically the device is rooted (I installed the new recovery & relocked bootloader, it's def not rooted anymore) but I don't care to be perfectly honest.
Thank you guys so much for all your help!
