[Q] HELP! Cant flash Roms - HTC One X

Help my hox is lock on sentinel 4.75 and I cant flash any other rom onto it.
Every time I try to load another rom it crashed at the htc boot screen and never load (I have left it for up to 20 mins)
When this happens the only thing I can do is reload a nandroid of sentinel 4.75 and flash the boot image to return to my previous rom.
I have tried multiple roms including probam, sentinel 5.0, xenonhd and icj with no luck on any of them.
I am on Hboot 1.31 and have installed philz recovery.
Recently I found that my phone had no root access and had to reflash the rom - again the only one that worked was sentinel 4.75
Is there anything I can do to fix my phone to allow me to load another rom. Im finding different issues every time I reload sentinel and would really love to load something else.

Update the hboot

I am guessing that you are forgetting to flash the boot image included in the rom you desire to install.
For example you want to install sentinel v5.00.
update: forgot to mention that you need to update your hboot to run newer roms. you can find proper
hboot update files for your cid in xda forum. Credits to Mr Hofs for the reminder.
Follow these steps.
Technical terms:
adb or fastboot folder: a folder where you have fastboot.exe and adb.exe
HOX: HTC One X
preparation:
a. go to your fastboot or adb folder and rename any 'boot.img' to anything else, like sentinel475.img
b. download the zip file of the rom you want to install
c. copy this zip file into your HOX
d. open the zip file and copy the 'boot.img' file into your adb or fastboot folder
e. make sure your HOX has atleast 60% charge(50% is also fine)
Flashing procedure:
Reboot into recovery
Select 'wipe data/factory reset'
Select 'wipe data/factory reset for new rom' ( applicable to philz recovery only)
Then go back to main menu in recovery
Select 'install zip from sdcard'
Select the zip file, the one you copied to your HOX
Once it has been flashed properly
Reboot into bootloader
connect your HOX with your PC and make sure the HOX display shows 'fastboot usb' in red
open a command window and go to your fastboot folder
type in fastboot flash boot boot.img
type in fastboot erase cache
type in fastboot reboot
disconnect your hox and wait for 5 to 7 minutes for hox to boot into desktop
Thats it. I always follow these steps and everything is fine. You also have to flash gapps zip file but we need to get a proper rom
loaded first before we can do anything else. gapps is always flashable later so no worries about it.
BTW, does it say 'Unlocked' or 'Relocked' in your bootload on the top of the screen?
Can you post the steps you are following to flash other roms? May be you are missing some steps.
Most of the times, a rom will not boot if you don't flash the boot.img that came with the rom.
Thanks, and let me know your results
[Disclaimer: If you follow these steps then you automatically agree to not hold me and all xda forum staff and members responsible for
any damage that might have resulted following or not following these instructions properly or improperly.]

Leave the steps above for now. First give me the outcome of
Fastboot getvar version-main

Thanks rowlf I have installed a few roms before and am familiar with the installation process.
Sorry mistaken it is hboot 1.36
Mr hofs - the version is 3.14.707.24
In case you need cid is HTC__044

I suggest you run the ruu to get back to full stock and try to update via official ota.
http://www.androidruu.com/getdownlo...Radio_5.1204.162.29_release_296434_signed.exe
Get the hboot higher up.
Edit :
1.36 ? Thats fine for all roms. When you install a new one i always advice to do the full wipe manually. Factory reset, wipe caches and format cache, data and system ! Then install the rom.

[Q] Noob Help Needed: Phone Stuck

Hi, Brand new Noob here, but hoping someone can help…I’ve had a good scour around and can’t find the answer. We have a Htc one x from orange uk (cid orang001) stuck at “quietly brilliant” screen following an attempt to load ViperX 2.6.0. After downloading, the MAC unzipped the ROM so this was just rezipped back up and transferred over to the SD card, without any special conditions. ( I’ve since read somewhere that this might cause issues)
USB debugger was enabled but its not possible to enable it now.
Fastboot works ok, and we’ve flashed the boot ok, but ADP isn’t working, so it isn’t possible to push the correct ROM.ZIP to the SDcard. CWM is installed.
We’ve seen the post for an updated CWM with ADP enabled on this here but that states its only for at&t models. If we could get ADP working we’d be able to push the correct ROM over, so this would seem the easiest way if possible.
I wanted to avoid doing a RUU in case the phone would end up bricked, but I can’t get the correct version anyway.
Command ./fastboot getvar version-main returns
version-main: 3.16.61.6 and the noob guide at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1859714 says we can’t use a lower version….the nearest RUU I can find is 1.29.061.11 (released on 31/01/2013).
Any ideas on how best to recover this phone? The issue might not be anything to do with the zipping of the ROM, but then I have no idea why its not working…I’m hoping it’s a simple procedure, but I fear it may not be! Please Help!
any help would be much appreciated!!
First of all go and boot into the bootloader, hold down the power button and the volume - button together as long as it takes to get in the bootloader. Do not let go of the buttons before you are in !!!
Check the bootloader, what does it say on top
Probably
Unlocked ?
Endeavouru ?
Hboot : tell me ?
And tell me which recovery you flashed type and version !

Check the OP of the viper thread there is a seperate download link for the boot.img file

[Q] help flashing MIUI, my first rom flash

hi
i already unlock the bootloader, install custom recovery TWRP, and done a backup
i also copy my backup to PC
now i'm confuse
- i need to root the phone or can i just flash the new room?
- if i need to root the phone i found an italian guide on 4.0 and attach file, can i use that? i have 4.1.1 on mine now
i'm not interested to have HTC stock with root but what i want is to install MIUI ROM
this is the only guide i found in english that explains how to install the rom
external link (i can't post it) miuiandroid.com/community/threads/installing-the-htc-one-x-required-s-on-steps.16592/
what i understand is:
- boot my device power + menu down, to see the FASTBOOT USB i have to select FASTBOOT
- flash the boot.img
- press the power button once (HBOOT i guess), click volume down, highlight recovery & press power
- Flash the downloaded ROM via recovery normally and it followup at this link
external link (i can't post it) miuiandroid.com/community/threads/how-to-update-upgrade-miui.15424/
i need to copy the img rom in SD ROOT before starting with all this process
- now i need to Wipe data/factory reset, Cache Wipe & Dalvik Cache Wipe in all tutorial i found this is done with clockworkmod
in TWRP under menu WIPE i guess are System, Cache, Dalvik buttons
after that i'm note sure if i need to flash italian language, if i don't need and i can just download it later i tihink is not a big deal
unless is all in chinese
is the metod correct?
do i have to copy ROM file in .zip format as i download?
here where i found ROM
from official site grey button miui.com/download-7.html
OR
from UK web site miuiandroid.com/community/threads/3-4-28.20232/
the boot.img is here
point 3 miuiandroid.com/community/threads/installing-the-htc-one-x-required-s-on-steps.16592/
i'm not sure if would be better to use clockworkmod, since most tutorials use that..
thanks
Doesn't matter which recovery you use. Yes just place the zip file on your sd card. Flash boot.img as you already said. Perform a full wipe and then flash the Rom zip. Reboot and its done.
The Roms are pre-rooted so you dont need to worry about that. Italian language should be included i guess.

Heres what i do :
1) Put Rom.zip on SD card
2) Put boot.img in fastboot folder
3) fastboot erase cache
4) fastboot flash boot boot.img
5) fastboot erase cache
6) Reboot into recovery
7) Full wipe (except sd card)
8) Install rom
9) Enjoy new rom

i did my first mess but fortunally i could restore since i had copy the backup on my mac too
i don't know what went wrong but this is what happened:
- i did how was told before, but actually i download boot.img and rom from 2 different sites
- after reboot it didn't move from first screena waited for 15 minutes almost, so i did reboot in recovery tri to wipe but nothing happened
- so i decide to restore... but it did boot even if it was successful
- i thought that if i flashed the boot.img first time i may need to do it again, i found boot.emmc.win, rename it to boot.img, flash it and then i restored successfully
:victory:
now, to try a different rom i need to restore (maybe is safer)? can i copy the rom from recovery or fastboot?
what can it be wrong with my miui rom? could it be boot.img and rom file mismatch? can't find where to download both

i would try a different rom for now, viperx perhaps. and the boot image is in the rom zip, extract the boot img from the rom and put it in your fastboot folder then copy the rom to your sdcard. once you have done that, fastboot erase cache, flash the boot image, fastboot erase cache again, then back into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik just to be sure then use recovery to flash the rom and hey presto. all of the above is assuming you have the one x international tegra 3
I have htc one x european terga 3, as far as I know mini is only for tegra 3
what you describe is exactly what I did:
- I leave the rom zip ad it is, I didn't remove boot.imf that I extract, correct?
- when I flash I hit hoot fastboot, connect USB and fastboot change in fastboot USB, to go back I select Hboot and and hit power, prom there recovery
- I did unlock bootloader but did not get rooted my phone, could it be that?

read this post. at least twice!! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069904 do not do the "unlock bootloader" section as you already did that
@nogotaclue sorry i read so many, and some of them sayed that root was not necessary if you flash a new rom, other sayed it could still be necessary... now i rooted with the app and did a new backup that i'm coping on PC
reading further it says: to wipe, install rom, and flash boot.img after
"Now go back and press install. Go to the folder where the ROM you downloaded, is located in. Select the ROM and slide the screen to flash it. After it flashes, press the back button. Press Reboot and Reboot into bootloader. Open the ROM you downloaded from your computer. You should see boot.img. Extract it to your computer. Open my toolkit and press Flash a Kernel. Locate the boot.img and it will flash it."

[Q] Bricked HTC One X

Hi
I am completely new to developing and have managed to brick my HTC One X.
I need to record calls as part of my job so i tried to follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663642
However, somehow i completely bricked my phone and i didnt make any back ups.
So far i have managed to do the following:
1. Unlock the phone via HTCdev
2. Get to the fastboot screen
3. fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.4.0-endeavoru.img
4. fastboot flash boot boot.img (from the file 3.16.110.4 which aparantly is the correct file according to CID TMOB-005)
5. fastboot erase cache
6. Then reflash recovery 'fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.4.0-endeavoru.img'
After the above steps, my phone is now stuck on the HTC Quietly Brilliant screen.
I have been reading threads for the last two days but nothing seems to be working which is probably due to my lack of understanding.
I would be grateful for any assistance.
Thanks

okwell decide which rom you want and download it, once it's downloaded double click the zip and copy the boot.img then paste it into your fastboot folder. next copy the rom to your sdcard, to do this start recovery and select mount usb storage then copy the file from pc to sdcard. now start bootloader and fastboot erase cache, then fastboot flash boot boot.img, then again fastboot erase cache. then go back into recovery and flash the rom. when its finished flashing wipe the cache and dalvic cache then reboot

I took your advise to look at the guide again. However, I have checked for an automatic install RUU but there isnt one available for my phone.
I have to download the correct RUU onto my PC and follow some instructions similar to yours for the Custom Rom. However, when i install the zip from the SDcard, it states the below error:
-- Installing: /sdcard/3.16.110.4.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:Cant open /sdcard/3.16.110.4.zip

Installation aborted
Do you know why this is happening.
I have tried it now with a 3.16.110.4.zip & filmware.zip (for my phone).
Thanks for your help.

[Q] Flashing Blackout ROM Phone now just boots to Clockwork

Sorry to intrude guys but this is my first post so please be kind.
Since this happened i have searched these forums and now im more confused than ever so i am hoping someone can help me.
I have never done anything like this before so took the time to read up.
i unlocked the bootloader with HTCDEV, one i had done that i followed these instructions
Flashing roms with an unlocked bootloader
Unlock your bootloader and flash a custom recovery (CWM or 4ext)
Download the rom zip file you are willing to flash to your PC.
Extract the the boot.img from inside the zip file (do not extract the whole rom)
Put the zip file in your sdcard.
Boot into recovery and do a full wipe (wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, format system)
Flash rom (install zip from sdcard)
Reboot into bootloader again and plug the phone to the PC.
You need to be in fastboot usb (if you see HBOOT USB PLUG in the phone, just press power to toggle)
Open a cmd/terminal and navigate to where the boot.img file is located.
Type: fastboot flash boot boot.img
Reboot and now you should be enjoying your custom rom
the install of Blackout ICS ROM seemed to go ok, once i had flashed the boot.img in the last step i rebooted and now once past the HTC screen loads of lines appear on the screen which gradually fade and then it just reboots to Clockwork recovery.
I have tried to recover using the back up that was made and this makes no difference.
My phone isnt rooted and as i say im more confused as to my next step than ever

1.Make sure you are using the right kernel version for the Rom,and for your device (CM based kernels for CM based Rom's,and Sense for Sense,etc..)
2.Make sure you are flashing boot.img using the correct commands and a procedure
3.And make sure that recovery is compatible with the rom (example Viper rom and Phil'z advance recovery,etc..)
The right commands for flashing the kernel are
1.Go into fastboot mode on your phone
2.Connect the phone and PC
3.command is: fastboot flash boot.img (you can drag and drop your boot.img of choice right in the command window instead of typing the whole name of it)
4.after flashing it's done do the: fastboot erase cache without leaving the terminal
5.Now just unplug the phone from usb cable and reboot into recovery
6.Now find the zip of that kernel you've just flashed on your sd card (I assume you've placed it there) and install it by flashing that zip(that's where the modules are)
7.reboot and that should be it.

I downloades this recovery: TWRP Recovery [2.7.1.0] [Unofficial] http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2776581
I downloaded One_X_4.18.401.3_odexed stock rom from Mike.
Then i run the commands:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot erase cache
Then i unplug the phone and and reboot into recovery.
I do a factory reset and wipe data.
Then i choose to install the rom from sd card and the rom installs complete.
I start the phone then after a few minutes Google Play and Sense start to FC all the time and the phone restarts and hangs at the HTC logo and i cant do nothing anymore.
What im doing wrong, i have flashed roms several years and never had these difficulties.
Where can i find the kernels for stock roms?

Click to collapse
Here are some kernels
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2226360 (this one I've used on sense stock Rom,and it's a good one for battery life
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588449 (here you have versions both for aosp and sense rom's,also great kernels from @audahadi )
And you can try some sense rom's other then mike's,cause as i understand his rom is something firmware dependent as well as cid,I'm not really sure cause I haven't used it or tried to flash it at all
Also think about trying regular cwm recovery or Philz, just try differnet stuff and I'm sure you'll figure it out.
