[Q] help flashing MIUI, my first rom flash - HTC One X

hi
i already unlock the bootloader, install custom recovery TWRP, and done a backup
i also copy my backup to PC
now i'm confuse
- i need to root the phone or can i just flash the new room?
- if i need to root the phone i found an italian guide on 4.0 and attach file, can i use that? i have 4.1.1 on mine now
i'm not interested to have HTC stock with root but what i want is to install MIUI ROM
this is the only guide i found in english that explains how to install the rom
external link (i can't post it) miuiandroid.com/community/threads/installing-the-htc-one-x-required-s-on-steps.16592/
what i understand is:
- boot my device power + menu down, to see the FASTBOOT USB i have to select FASTBOOT
- flash the boot.img
- press the power button once (HBOOT i guess), click volume down, highlight recovery & press power
- Flash the downloaded ROM via recovery normally and it followup at this link
external link (i can't post it) miuiandroid.com/community/threads/how-to-update-upgrade-miui.15424/
i need to copy the img rom in SD ROOT before starting with all this process
- now i need to Wipe data/factory reset, Cache Wipe & Dalvik Cache Wipe in all tutorial i found this is done with clockworkmod
in TWRP under menu WIPE i guess are System, Cache, Dalvik buttons
after that i'm note sure if i need to flash italian language, if i don't need and i can just download it later i tihink is not a big deal
unless is all in chinese
is the metod correct?
do i have to copy ROM file in .zip format as i download?
here where i found ROM
from official site grey button miui.com/download-7.html
OR
from UK web site miuiandroid.com/community/threads/3-4-28.20232/
the boot.img is here
point 3 miuiandroid.com/community/threads/installing-the-htc-one-x-required-s-on-steps.16592/
i'm not sure if would be better to use clockworkmod, since most tutorials use that..
thanks

Doesn't matter which recovery you use. Yes just place the zip file on your sd card. Flash boot.img as you already said. Perform a full wipe and then flash the Rom zip. Reboot and its done.
The Roms are pre-rooted so you dont need to worry about that. Italian language should be included i guess.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app

Heres what i do :
1) Put Rom.zip on SD card
2) Put boot.img in fastboot folder
3) fastboot erase cache
4) fastboot flash boot boot.img
5) fastboot erase cache
6) Reboot into recovery
7) Full wipe (except sd card)
8) Install rom
9) Enjoy new rom

i did my first mess but fortunally i could restore since i had copy the backup on my mac too
i don't know what went wrong but this is what happened:
- i did how was told before, but actually i download boot.img and rom from 2 different sites
- after reboot it didn't move from first screena waited for 15 minutes almost, so i did reboot in recovery tri to wipe but nothing happened
- so i decide to restore... but it did boot even if it was successful
- i thought that if i flashed the boot.img first time i may need to do it again, i found boot.emmc.win, rename it to boot.img, flash it and then i restored successfully
:victory:
now, to try a different rom i need to restore (maybe is safer)? can i copy the rom from recovery or fastboot?
what can it be wrong with my miui rom? could it be boot.img and rom file mismatch? can't find where to download both

i would try a different rom for now, viperx perhaps. and the boot image is in the rom zip, extract the boot img from the rom and put it in your fastboot folder then copy the rom to your sdcard. once you have done that, fastboot erase cache, flash the boot image, fastboot erase cache again, then back into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik just to be sure then use recovery to flash the rom and hey presto. all of the above is assuming you have the one x international tegra 3

I have htc one x european terga 3, as far as I know mini is only for tegra 3
what you describe is exactly what I did:
- I leave the rom zip ad it is, I didn't remove boot.imf that I extract, correct?
- when I flash I hit hoot fastboot, connect USB and fastboot change in fastboot USB, to go back I select Hboot and and hit power, prom there recovery
- I did unlock bootloader but did not get rooted my phone, could it be that?

read this post. at least twice!! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069904 do not do the "unlock bootloader" section as you already did that

@nogotaclue sorry i read so many, and some of them sayed that root was not necessary if you flash a new rom, other sayed it could still be necessary... now i rooted with the app and did a new backup that i'm coping on PC
reading further it says: to wipe, install rom, and flash boot.img after
"Now go back and press install. Go to the folder where the ROM you downloaded, is located in. Select the ROM and slide the screen to flash it. After it flashes, press the back button. Press Reboot and Reboot into bootloader. Open the ROM you downloaded from your computer. You should see boot.img. Extract it to your computer. Open my toolkit and press Flash a Kernel. Locate the boot.img and it will flash it."

yes you can do it that way, i usually flash first but sometimes it does not work, so just flash it last as it says in the tutorial

after root, with the same steps, the ROM starts... but
touch screen is not working :crying:
now i'm gonna look arond to see if i found some post about that

[Q] HTC One X Booting Problems

Hi guys,
Need urgent assistance as I'm having a weird problem.
So I installed Viper (latest update) and everything was working fine...added numerous tweaks (statusbar, icons, etc)
Now I installed the latest version of Strobe, jotha's APM mod and SenseCream (in that order) but my phone won't start!
I can access the boot screen but it gets stuck on black screen after the modified boot screen (which worked before I installed these themes too btw)
I can still access recovery and bootloader but I can't start the phone - I'd also appreciate assistance in uninstalling these themes as they seem to be the culprit (if I can get them working, all the better ofcourse)
Any suggestions?
p.s. I have the international HTC One X with 3.14.401.31 (I believe) base
Did you flash the boot.img ?
Try to full wipe again in recovery then flash the boot.img then install the full rom. After installing, boot the phone. DO NOT flash those two add ons right away after the rom.
That also happens to me a while ago.
Hope that helps

I'll do the full wipe now...where do I find the boot.img though?
also how do I access usb to copy the full rom into the sdcard? i can't seem to access it
It's in the ROM zip . extract it and flash it through fastboot . fastboot flash boot boot.img .
If you do a full wipe, the full rom (the zip file viper rom) will remain in your virtual sd card.
First, on your computer where you save the downloaded zip file of viper rom, extract it then copy the boot.img you found inside, then place it on your fastboot files.
Next, go into your bootloader by pressing power button and volume down for about 10-15secs
In the bootloader, choose the fastboot by clicking the power botton, navigate using the volume keys.
Then connect your usb. Open a command prompt to your computer then navigate to your fastboot files. After that, flash "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
Then "fastboot erase cache"
Then go to recovery and wipe data, cache and dalvik. Finally, flash the zip file (viper rom)
make a full wipe: data, cache partition, and dalvik,

ok so I'm halfway there but still having a few problems
via fastboot I flashed boot.img and then erase cache
I still don't see the full viper rom in my sdcard though so I can't reach the next part
p.s. I'm trying not to wipe all the data as I didn't get a chance to back up...if I need to though then I'll just have to do it

I probably deleted it as I installed the viper rom a long time ago...I have a copy on my laptop but I doubt I have one in the sdcard as well
Is there any way to transfer it from my laptop to the sdcard? perhaps via fastboot?
Oke, mount the sdcard in the recovery as a usb mass storage and copy the rom.zip from sdcard\O\ back to sdcard\
Then just reflash the rom.zip with only a dalvik cache and cache wipe.....always do a nandroid backup before flashing themes or mods
And after flashing a mod or theme you don't have to flash the boot.img if it goes wrong ....only the rom.zip. the theme probably broke the framework of the rom so it fails to boot properly

Ok so i got confused. I thought that you just recently installed the viper rom and not so long ago. The latest jellybean version is 3.3.2, which is what im using right now.
I've never tried flashing a full rom using fastboot command so i think a more experienced user could answer your question.
Try to access mount/storage from your recovery if you could possibly transfer data from your laptop.

Mount the freakin sdcard inside the recovery as a usb mass storage and copy the rom.zip over !

Also I'm not trying to flash the rom via fastboot (doubt its possible)...but I do need a way to copy the rom to my sdcard somehow...I have no idea how though

Yes there is no other option the framework changed for the last viper update so I think the theme is not updated yet with the proper framework
Flash this recovery , you are on a old cwm recovery
http://db.tt/Krlm4dPs
So flash the recovery, mount as mass storage and copy the rom zip, install the rom.zip and choose wipe dalvik cache and cache only !!! Then boot the phone. Then use es file explorer and set it with root functions in the settings of es file explorer ....then navigate to system/data and delete the theme.apk files you want to delete, reboot again and its gone

seriously thanks mate! I can mount USB now...so I'll copy over the viper rom and re-install the whole thing (without wiping data hopefully)
cheers!!
ok so I have finally managed to install viper rom (now doing system updates as the copy on my laptop is an old one)
so far I can't figure out how to remove the 2 themes I flashed on the phone though...strobe I "think" I found via system folder but I have no idea where the other 2 items are (SenseCream and apm mod) - any clues?
Quite a few of my apps are crashing at boot as well but I imagine this should be resolved once I've completed all the system updates
Appreciate everyone who's helped so far...thanks!!
Let us know if its all okey after all ! So either TT or me can close the thread properly
Whops. I should learn to read.

[Q] Flashing Blackout ROM Phone now just boots to Clockwork

Sorry to intrude guys but this is my first post so please be kind.
Since this happened i have searched these forums and now im more confused than ever so i am hoping someone can help me.
I have never done anything like this before so took the time to read up.
i unlocked the bootloader with HTCDEV, one i had done that i followed these instructions
Flashing roms with an unlocked bootloader
Unlock your bootloader and flash a custom recovery (CWM or 4ext)
Download the rom zip file you are willing to flash to your PC.
Extract the the boot.img from inside the zip file (do not extract the whole rom)
Put the zip file in your sdcard.
Boot into recovery and do a full wipe (wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, format system)
Flash rom (install zip from sdcard)
Reboot into bootloader again and plug the phone to the PC.
You need to be in fastboot usb (if you see HBOOT USB PLUG in the phone, just press power to toggle)
Open a cmd/terminal and navigate to where the boot.img file is located.
Type: fastboot flash boot boot.img
Reboot and now you should be enjoying your custom rom
the install of Blackout ICS ROM seemed to go ok, once i had flashed the boot.img in the last step i rebooted and now once past the HTC screen loads of lines appear on the screen which gradually fade and then it just reboots to Clockwork recovery.
I have tried to recover using the back up that was made and this makes no difference.
My phone isnt rooted and as i say im more confused as to my next step than ever

[Q] Prolem updating to CM 10.2.0

Hi all!
So, I have an HTC One X as my primary phone, and when I tried to update it to CM 10.2.0 using the CM update (inside settings, I was on 10.1.2 I think) I got an infinite launch screen (the one with the rolling blue arrow).
I restarted the phone, and it did the same, so I started the phone on recovery mode (I have the Team Win Recovery v2.6.0.0), mounted the device, copied everything I need from the SD card, swiped everything, and tried a fresh install of CM 10.2.0.
So based on this topic (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2490492) I copied the cm-10.2.0-endeavoru.zip, gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip, recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.4.0-endeavoru.img and a SuperSU.zip (I had this file from the first time I installed the CM) into my SD, an started to follow the following steps:
1 Read the official wiki :good:
2 Unlock your device via http://www.htcdev.com :good:
3 Flash the latest official ClockworkMod-Recovery via Fastboot - not sure but I think I did it when I installed the CM on the first time
4 Copy GApps and CM10.2 ZIPs to your SDCard :good:
5 Boot into Recovery :good:
6 Flash CM10.2 zip from SDCard :good:
7 Flash GApps zip from SDCard :good:
8 Flash the boot.img included in the CM10.2 zip via Fastboot - don't know exactly what do this mean... I tried to install the img file but my recovery app don't let me install .img files I think...
9 DO A DATA WIPE / FACTORY RESET :good:
10 Reboot :good:
11 Don't restore system data using Titanium Backup! :good:
12 Restoring Apps + Data might cause problems and is not recommended, avoid it if possible! :good:
So I think my problem is either on the step 3 or 8... The result, after install everything and wipe (ignoring the step 3 and 8) is the same infinite CM loading screen :silly:
Can you please help me? I don't have any phone now
Thanks a lot.
When it tells you to flash boot.img..You must go Fastbood Mode.. (Power button and Volumen down) Then choose Fastboot..
Then in cmd navigate to folder where Fastboot files are downloaded example:
cd C:\Users\Name\Fastboot\
And then use this
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Fastboot erase cache

Oh, so I need to do that on my computer... Totally make sense, and thats why the only version I can install is the 10.1.2, because that was the one I did properly, flashing the boot (a log time ago) and now a days thats the only version I can install with no problem... I've installed the 10.1.2 again (I needed the phone to work) but I will try again today to flash it and see what happens.
Thanks big noob (that should be my name)

HTC One X Bricked.. Help Needed

First of all, I want to tell that I am a beginner and do not know much about rooting and custom ROM installation.
Few days back, I became very keen to know what is custom ROM and is there any custom ROM available for my HTC One X. I searched through internet and found one, downloaded it. Rooted my phone, Unlocked bootloader. After that I installed CWM touch recovery. Everything was going great. Then, I first flashed the kernel given along with that custom ROM. it Flashed. Then, I flashed that Custom ROM. I Showed an error. I flashed it twice or thrice but it stucked on that error. Also in a Hurry, or Excitement, I forgot to take a backup of my previous ROM. After that, I switched on my phone it does nothing and stucked at HTC Bootscreen. I factory reset my phone, it wiped all data from phone. I Thought, a RUU would work, but it also doesn't worked.
I went to HTC Service Center, they are saying that motherboard will be replaced, which is almost of same cost of phone. I cannot spend so much.
I tried so many ways, but nothing worked.
So, I am Finally here seeking help from Experts. Any help will be highly appreciable.
Sorry for my bad English.

sorry for this stupid question. But how to use ADB Sideload..??
Just mount the sdcard in the mounts and storage menu ! No need for adb sideload
And don't just install the rom, you must perform a full wipe before that !
Factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Wipe dalvik cache
Format system
Format data
Format cache
Then install the rom !

If that doesn't work try this , this is what I did when I bricked my HTC One X:
1. Download Fastboot
2. Download adb
3. Download cm-10.2.1-endeavoru.zip (https://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=endeavoru)
(I used this one , it's justs so you get your SD Card Working again and you can
put ROMS and everything on it again)
4. Download openrecovery-twrp-2.4.0.0-endeavoru-JB (http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/endeavoru)
(This one will be used because it has touch ability's and you can install ROMS with it )
4.1 Or you can download recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.4.7-endeavoru.img (a.k.a Philz recovery)

For maximus hd do this :
Flash Philz 5.15 and mount the sdcard and wait literally minutes to let the sdcard pop up, copy the rom, do a full wipe and install it then also flash the boot.img from the maximus rom in the bootloader and reboot the phone
Don't make this so hard on yourself !
Philz 5.15 recovery is not flashed. And ended with an error 0xa . any other way??

[Q] Sony Z1 Compact - CWM-based Recovery v6.0.5.1 - BLACK SCREEN

I really need help. I'm a noob at this. I was trying to install CyanogenMod on my Z1 compact. I was following this guide; "wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_amami" It went well after some trying. Got all the way to step 9! When I pressed Reboot system now nothing happened. The Sony logo game for some seconds, then the screen went black. I know the phone is on 'cause I can see that it is light-black, if you know what i mean. I thaught maby it would take i while. But it stayed like this for 5 hours. Nothing happens.. When I turn it off and on again, I can press the voume rockers and it takes me to the CWM-based Recovery v 6.0.5.1 page where i can do some stuff, but I'm stuck here. Please help me! Dont know what to do. Is there a way to factory-reset the phone back to Anroid? Sorry for being so noob. Need a noob friendly guide on how to fix this
Use the guides and files from this forum instead. Did you flash the CM kernel in fastboot?
at least you can boot into cwm. did you place cyanogenmod zip on your sd card?

"Open a terminal on the PC and enter the following:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot"
- again sorry, these last 14 hours is the only experience i have with rooting etc. flash means install right?

i used this "adb push cm.zip /sdcard/0/" - and I checked now. The files is there still yes. Btw, in panic I've "wipe data/facotry reset". Dont know if this matters
"fastboot flash boot boot.img" flashes only the cwm (and kernel). wipe data/factory reset is ok, no harm done (at least now, as you want clean partitions at this point anyway).
so if your zips are on the sdcard via step 8, boot into cwm, navigate to
- install zip (swipe down, swipe right to enter)
- choose zip from /sdcard
- 0/
now you end up on your sdcard. find your zip and run the install. if you copied gapps zip too, install that zip after flashing the rom, and that's it.

Yes install, I prefer to flash the kernel in fastboot then flash the zip.

Yes I've come this far. Now I have installed the file i had at the sdcard. "installation complete!" "Good Apps for Android 4.3.3" it says.
Now ive found the cm-11-20140922-NIGHTLY-amami.zip and installed it via sideload.
"opening adbd...
finding update package..
opening updage package.
installing update..."
Dont know how long this take, doesnt say its finished, but i can navigate through the menu at the top, does this means it finished? what to i do now to get i work? just "reboot system now"?

yes. reboot. see what happens. you should boot into cm already.
you didn't need using so much adb, it's all doable via cwm (except initial flashing of boot.img which is cwm itself).
next time: just download the zip, reboot into recovery, flash the zips there and reboot. it's that simple you don't need to wipe anything between flashing nightlies, but you do between nightlies and M build - or if you migrate to some other aosp/aokp/kang rom. anyhow, have fun.
You want to instal cm right? But do you know that you need to unlocked your bootloader to install any other rom than stok right? So if tou want to have CM you must unlock your bootloader
