Few days ago I bought the Swiftkey keyboard and even after selecting it as default keyboard, it keeps reverting to stock keyboard after sometime without even booting. Is there a solution for this?
You might want to try removing the stock keyboard using TiBu/RootExplorer/etc. and leave SwiftKey as the only keyboard present.

Similar to this, you could also go into the Apps in the settings, and find and disable the stock keyboard. I've been using SwiftKey for around 4 years, I've faced this issue multiple times.
Just started doing this for me a month or so ago. I went in to titanium and froze Android keyboard, just like what the other guy did and it worked fine. Not a fan of removing completely so freezing is the way to go imo.

Yes, I tried all the other possible ways. Freezing is the only option it seems. And now finally I'm on Swiftkey! :good:
Great! Enjoy it, it's a fantastic keyboard, be warned though, it gets better and worse as they release updates.

Randomly when I go to send a text message, the letters I type don't show up. I have to close the messaging app fully and relaunch it and everything is fine.
I was rooted, with franco kernel and a bunch of mods/themes/apps installed. Right now I restored to stock ICS. Re-rooted, flashed aokp milestone 4 and haven't downloaded any apps and I just experienced the issue again.
Also, I am using stock keyboard.
Any ideas?

I believe this is a general issue with ICS, I have the same exact problem sometimes (1/~30 times) no matter what kernel/rom combo I'm using.
Definitely have never seen this before and i text like mad. But i also use handcent from day 1 so it might be the stock text app.
This happened to me once in a market app but hasn't occurred in the messaging app

It had the same thing happen to me quite often back on my HTC Legend on CM7 with Handcent, but never so far on my new Gnex. I liked the stock messaging app and even gave up on Handcent.

I can also confirm this happening very rarely. aokp/franco

Have definitely seen this more than a few times. I put it down to Swiftkey X compatibly issues though...

I think it also happens in the Market for me too. I dont really remember though. I do see it rarely in my messaging app. Although its very rare it does get annoying.

Thats the thing, I had swype installed and thought it was that. Like I said just did a reset and fresh install of everything. Cant be any third party apps.
Not me personally, but a friend who's on complete stock ICS has complained of this happening every so often. I've never seen it on mine.

So it's still happening with the Stock Keyboard? Interesting...Well, all we can wait for is a fix from the big G. I would have no idea where to start looking for problems with this sort of thing!
Yep have had this problem every morning for about the past week. I need to restart the phone to fix it.
I am rooted on stock 4.0.2 and normally use Swype however it happens on other keyboards too

Nope, works fine for me.
Nope. Not very. Just a bit laggy.
I see that UI on 4.2 is not so fast as it was on 4.1.2, but some apps (e.g. chrome) works a bit faster.
So, yep - I'm happy with the update.

People who aren't having speed issues: Can you test a couple of scenarios I've noticed in particular?
1) In the new gmail: tap on the account switching area at the top. This loads far slower for me with the new app
2) Put your phone to sleep or wake it up. Sleep/wake seems quite a bit less responsive in 4.2 on both of the stock phones I've tested.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Disable all animations in developers options and screen off animation will be less noticeable.

i made i wipe cache and now is working fine. thanks a lot
No. 4.2 is just as fast as 4.1.2 on my GNex... which was fast whether I use the stock UI or Apex Launcher. Granted there is an initial sluggishness during the initial boot from services loading in the background... but after that my GNex is smooth and fast.
Those of you experiencing slow speeds: Try flashing the factory image from Google. I had one app that didn't work properly and a flash to factory stock and re-root fixed the problem. It's possible you have an app running in the background eating up resources too.
I understand these threads and posts must be annoying to those who aren't having issues, but to people like me, who OTAed a bone stock phone and are left with a less-than-satisfactory experience, it is equally frustrating. Especially considering how many improvements were made with 4.1-4.1.2, which have now been rendered moot.
I guess my only recourse is to wipe and flash stock, but because I'm not rooted and don't have any backups, it'll be fun to rebuild my phone.
ealterh
Turn off that live wallpaper! JK hopefully that isnt the case...
Each Android iteration on the GN has gotten smoother for me. 4.2 is pretty amazing out of the box, much like 4.1 was when compared to 4.0.3/.4. The GN is definitely not lacking when it comes to having what it takes for 4.2.
4.2 is really, really fast. When they fix camera rotation and recent apps, it will be perfect. It killed my urge for N4. Now I can easily wait for one more year... Good job Google.

I have an issue with my s3. Everytime I reboot my phone the keyboard that I have goes back to stock swype keyboard.. I have a purchased version of smart keyboard pro.. it it annoys me to have to go back to settings and have to change it all over again.
I know its not a flaw with smart keyboard pro.. it never gave me that problem with my other phones..
Does anyone know how to fix it?

I figured out a temp fix by freezing the stock "samsung Keyboard" with Titanium backup pro & selecting Siftkey keyboard in regular settings.
Sent from my laptop running Ubuntu 12.10
I think it's just part of JB kinda like the annoying input method on the notification every time you type. Happens on stock too just try to not reboot so much or freeze keyboard like other dude stated
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
When I was on the stock ROM, I also solved this by freezing the stock keyboard.
I found on Frosty JB (stock rooted, debloated ROM) that it doesn't reset like stock does.
It's little stuff like this where rooting shows its strength and usefulness.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
I've had this happen since the JB update, too. I think it's a "feature" that requires a work-around like the freezing of the stock keyboard like mentioned.

Sure is annoying. On most custom roms I flash, I opt to use the android keyboard instead. Built in features usually work much better than the samsung keyboard option too. Not sure why it gets laggy like that.
Thank you guys

I only have lag on the stock keyboard when power saving mode is enabled. I turn it off and it works with no lag at all.
I'm on stock touchwiz not rooted 4.1.1
You may want to try the application lag fix it's on the play store that help speed up the OS in general

It does this when going from an app to home and going thru the app drawer. And playing games is a horrible experience because it lags constantly. I'm fully stock no root. I did a factory reset after the recent ota. Do I have a defective phone? I just got it yesterday. FYI I came from the HTC one and that phone played all of my games flawlessly. I play modern combat 4 gta vice city nba2k13. And all of them lag considerably on this phone I thought this phone was better then the HTC one. Faster processor etc. What's going on any help?

I use SwiftKey too I'm going to try uninstalling it and see if that's that culprit.
Edit: I un installed swiftkey and lag disappeared:0 thats really weird. Games work normal no lag in menus anymore swiftkey made this phone unstable maybe because the stock keyboard has swiftkey flow, they kept colliding with eachother. Idk just a theory.

You can't uninstall swype unless you root, if not disable it. I'm not sure if swype affects performance I have it disabled cause I don't use it, But haven't noticed a difference. Swype and SwiftKey are two different apps so if you don't have SwiftKey this post doesn't apply to you.

Guys if you downloaded swiftkey on to the device, then it will not work properly because sasmsung intergrated swiftkey into their stock keyboard.

Unless you unchecked the swiftkey feature in the stock keyboard settings. That worked for me now swiftkey nor the phone lags.

I also found that if you FREEZE the stock Samsung keyboard with Titanium, and continue to use SwiftKey, you will also find the lag is gone.
Thank you so much for pointing this out. I removed the Samsung keyboard and not leather phone flies. I was getting frustrated and thinking of returning. I tried everything. It was that friggin conflict between the keyboards.
