Randomly when I go to send a text message, the letters I type don't show up. I have to close the messaging app fully and relaunch it and everything is fine.
I was rooted, with franco kernel and a bunch of mods/themes/apps installed. Right now I restored to stock ICS. Re-rooted, flashed aokp milestone 4 and haven't downloaded any apps and I just experienced the issue again.
Also, I am using stock keyboard.
Any ideas?

I believe this is a general issue with ICS, I have the same exact problem sometimes (1/~30 times) no matter what kernel/rom combo I'm using.
Definitely have never seen this before and i text like mad. But i also use handcent from day 1 so it might be the stock text app.
This happened to me once in a market app but hasn't occurred in the messaging app

It had the same thing happen to me quite often back on my HTC Legend on CM7 with Handcent, but never so far on my new Gnex. I liked the stock messaging app and even gave up on Handcent.

I can also confirm this happening very rarely. aokp/franco

Have definitely seen this more than a few times. I put it down to Swiftkey X compatibly issues though...

I think it also happens in the Market for me too. I dont really remember though. I do see it rarely in my messaging app. Although its very rare it does get annoying.

Thats the thing, I had swype installed and thought it was that. Like I said just did a reset and fresh install of everything. Cant be any third party apps.
Not me personally, but a friend who's on complete stock ICS has complained of this happening every so often. I've never seen it on mine.

So it's still happening with the Stock Keyboard? Interesting...Well, all we can wait for is a fix from the big G. I would have no idea where to start looking for problems with this sort of thing!
Yep have had this problem every morning for about the past week. I need to restart the phone to fix it.
I am rooted on stock 4.0.2 and normally use Swype however it happens on other keyboards too

How do I find out which Android process is force closing? It happens every time I restart my phone. It doesn't happen too often but it happens at least once every time I restart. The notification does not say which process, it only says Android process. Sometimes my default keyboard, swiftkey x, is replaced by swype after force closing the Android process. Thanks in advance.
Edit: it actually says the application Android system force closes

That actually means "Android System" is force closing. I know useful right? I don't remember where to get the information that might help figure out why but typically a full wipe and a reflash will take care of it.

yea you may have deleted something thats acting up or maybe you installed something your phone is not happy with. I would try to do as the poster above said or run fix permissions in recovery or Rom Manager and see what happens
Are you on an EL13 build? What is your exact setup? If its EL, I may know why.

Yes I'm on calks 2.5, so I'm on el13. Also I don't mind reflashing and a wipe, but if there is an easier way, I would prefer to do that.

I do know that undervolting was causing a lot of people to have reboots including myself. I reduced it from 75 to 50. Also did you use Titanium Backup to restore data to your apps. That also causes some issues
I have neither manually undervolted my phone nor backed it up using titanium, so i dont think its from that

I was told that the Android System is calling a file that doesn't exist on EL13. Is it only when you power on phone? Strongsteve found it and fixed it on his ROM but I don't have the knowledge to locate it myself. Is 2.5 Calk's latest update? If he has a newer build, you may want to update. Maybe he found it and fixed it as well.

Since installing Calkulin's 2.6 and EL13, Google Maps has been force closing on me after reboots. I'll be watching this in case it's a related issue.
Updated to ICS through Kies, running stock rooted and using default sms (I know, that's my first problem ).
My problem is I'm having to tap the field three or four times to pull up the Swype keyboard..
Didn't see any info on this posted previously so i wanted to see if i was alone on this. Aside from this issue, I'm running pretty smoothly, no lag, no force closures, no random reboots, just finicky Swype..

Have you tired another keyboard?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Hmmm looks like its not exclusive to Swype, messaging app lags pulling up any keyboard.
I'd gladly switch to handcent, I've just gotten accustomed to being able to pull up my messages from the lockscreen.

So when I'm sending a text, sometimes the cursor will keep moving to the front of a text and not continuing and I have no way to fix this. Other times, it starts erasing everything I wrote. Anyone else experiencing this? If so, any non root related solution?

Did you check to mske sure there is no moister on the phone? Or that your hands are not touching the screen?
Try rebooting and or wiping the cache on the app

Same thing happens to me
thought it was just me hitting the wrong thing, but happens all the time...
I've seen this happen multiple times on all 3 devices that my family has
Yeah i don't know why. I've checked it all, tried two different messaging and keyboard apps and did a factory reset. No luck. It's really hindering

I have this problem too at times. Not enough to piss me off. I have heard people having success with GO SMS Pro. Might bork your MMS though.
Happens to me as well, i start typing then all of a sudden im at the beginning of the text still typing. I thought it was maybe a bug with Swiftkey or maybe i was accidently touching the screen but it guess not.
Tried it on another 3 og's
Same issue
Yea I have the same issue and I thought it was the stock LG keyboard. So I downloaded the android 4.2 keyboard and I'm still having the same issue. I'll deal with it for now because the 4.2 keyboard is legit and it only happens once in a while.

I called Sprint, I'm taking it in and will probably get it replaced since not everyone has it. Hopefully an update fixes this or there's a rom that does

It is NOT your hardware. This is a software bug in the messaging app. I discussed it HERE already. It's not the keyboard. I've tested multiple keyboard and multiple messaging apps. The problem resolves with a different messaging app. I've used GO SMS and now I'm using chompSMS.
This bug annoys the hell out of me and is the only reason I'm checking the forums every single night for an AOSP ROM to flash. I'm sure this will be resolved with an update to JB, but who knows when that's coming.
Try GO SMS, chompSMS, Handcent or any of the other Messaging apps in the market and this won't happen to you. Do not freeze your stock messaging app or MMS won't work.
This is a known issue at work. Our LG rep said we should have a fix out very soon. It is not a hardware issue and replacing it will do nothing.

Definitely not an AOSP thing. I ran Task650's AOKP and got notifications just fine.. I had to actually turn off the notifications because they got too annoying. =p

I had the same problem , here is how I solved it. remove facebook completely from your phone. next log into facebook on a normal cpu , go into privacy settings and clear all the apps that have access , next I logged into facebook on an i device. Worked with both ipod and iphone. I had my wife send me a message and I received the notification on the i device , I then logged out of the apple product and logged back in to my gs3 and notifications were working ever since. I ran into this issue awhile back on my gs2 and i logged into a blackberry and that fixed it. I cant tell you why but this is what worked for me , now im running aokp 3/4 with working notifications.
Few days ago I bought the Swiftkey keyboard and even after selecting it as default keyboard, it keeps reverting to stock keyboard after sometime without even booting. Is there a solution for this?
You might want to try removing the stock keyboard using TiBu/RootExplorer/etc. and leave SwiftKey as the only keyboard present.

Similar to this, you could also go into the Apps in the settings, and find and disable the stock keyboard. I've been using SwiftKey for around 4 years, I've faced this issue multiple times.
Just started doing this for me a month or so ago. I went in to titanium and froze Android keyboard, just like what the other guy did and it worked fine. Not a fan of removing completely so freezing is the way to go imo.

Yes, I tried all the other possible ways. Freezing is the only option it seems. And now finally I'm on Swiftkey! :good:
Great! Enjoy it, it's a fantastic keyboard, be warned though, it gets better and worse as they release updates.
