[Q] Buying a Note II - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I would like to buy a Note II on kijiji Edmonton and I am just wondering if a normal unlocked version would work with Wind mobile Canada in 3G (I can pass on LTE or AWS)...
Would root and mod help in that? For now I' using a Galaxy Nexus with cm 11
Thanks

if you're flashoholic, don't buy samsung with knox enabled. unless someone break that knox

I'm reading about it but how is it related to using a wind mobile sim or rooting?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Knox

When you flash custom rom he knox flag will be set and at this moment there is no way to reset it. This voids your warranty.
Other than that you can still root it. Afterwards if it's carrier locked you can unlock it with GalaxSim Unlock and use it on whichever network you like.

So from what I read your phone has to be rooted already and the SIM card of the carrier has to be in to do that...
is there also a free version to unlock or root a note?

Unlock and Root S3

I want to use S3 with other carrier (e.g. ATT, or other countries), does it rooting and install a custom rom (e.g. CM10) will achieve this? or i still need to get an unlock code from TMO. My apology for this beginner's question, need to know before I travel. thanks.
You will need an unlock code from tmobile to use phone on another network.

best choice for unlocking my phone?

i bought a new GN2 and it has firmware t889uvall4 which i need to downgrade in order to unlock. If i downgrade i would have to start setting my phone again from scratch. What's my best choice unlocking my sim with firmware t889uvall4
Best choice would be do a nandroid.
Flash the november release using odin from here showthread.php?t=1969551
dont set up anything just skip everything until you get to the home screen. unlock it using the service code method.
Once you do that you can restore your nandroid and be back to where you were to start but now you will be unlocked.
can I still revert back eventhough my device is unroot. I just
flash it via odin?

Best Choice is call t-mobile.
Unlocking the sim is now illegal on all phones purchased recently.
Plus by calling and getting the code (for free) you don't even need to toot.

What should i tell tmobile, i know that most of the time they refuse to give u the unlock sim. and those this void warranty?
someone said to nandroid which requires a different recovery. i'm trying to avoid root for warranty purpose so this option is no good for me.
EDIT: tmobile is willing to give the unlock code but my account has to be at least 60 days. i only have a week
If you bought the phone outright they should give you the code with no waiting period

illegal in the US. I'd take my device cross border to Mexico and voila. Piss on America's corporate friendly, consumer screwing laws.
That said, T-mo is pretty good about unlocking devices for you. I never had an issue in the past 10 years and I've unlocked 5 or so.

Make my TMobile S4 usable in India...please...

Hi all,
I would like to start off by saying that i dont care about any warranty or any such issues. I had bought a S4 in US which i brought to India without ever activating on T Mobile network. This means that on contacting T Mobile, they are unable to send me any activation code which could SIM Unlock my device.
So now my only problem is to make my device usable. I see two options:
a) SIM Unlock
b) Complete removal of firmware and install some custom ROM, bootloader and other components to get rid of T mobile network
Problem is that i am a newbie and couldnt find any thread that could help me. MY device is updated to the latest version i.e. i am on 4.4.2 with baseband as M919UVUF9B4 and knox bootloader
Can someone help me out. I have already tried rooting the device and trying some apps which suggested that would help me unlock my device but none of them worked..
Thanks

If you paid T-Mobile the full price for the phone approx US$500-US$600 (not the subsidized price) before you left, they should provide you with the SIM Unlock code. You may need to talk with another customer service agent. However, if you only paid the subsidized price, then you've broken the contract with them, and they won't. You'll have to contact a company that will sell you an unlock code.
As to rooting the phone, have you tried this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2294005 ?
If this doesn't work, you're doing it wrong.

Flashing a custom rom will not allow it to work on a different network. The phone will still be sim locked.
Like the post above me says, call T Mobile and have them give you the code. If you didn't pay the phone off, they won't give it to you nor should they.
Chainfire's Region Lockaway app will SIM unlock in the process of removing region restrictions. I remember reading something to that effect anyway.
For use chainfire's Region Unlock, you must be root.

@Skipjacks & rlichtefeld: I have already tried calling T Mobile and they are not ready to provide me any unlock code since the phone was never used on the network. Yes, its paid in full but i am in India now and cannot do much from back here to fight with them.
Have already tried chainfire's Region Unlock but its unusable on 4.4.2.
Please suggest the ways in which i can unlock my phone which is on 4.4.2 with baseband as M919UVUF9B4 and knox bootloader and i request you to please do not assume that phone is blacklisted or the warranty be void. i just want my phone to work here and that's it.

id suggest you find a website that unlocks phones, it usually costs less than 10 bucks or probably like 500 or so rupees but it should save you a lot of headaches

Note 2and Note 4 similar questions

I have a general question for my note 2 possibly moving to a note 4. Can someone tell me the difference between unlocking a phone ans rooting. My note 2 is att and rooted and have it on the straight talk Sim. I picked up a new note 4 for 300 bucks can rooting it do the same as unlocking it.
I'm not in USA but believe I can help clarify. Unlocking relates to the ability to use your phone
on a different network than what it's locked to.
Rooting is completely different, it gives you total control over your device. However be aware that ATT version of N4 is locked up tight and cannot be rooted at the moment. May I spontaneously combust if my facts are wrong.
Hahaha OK well thank you I'll get it unlocked for starters. Straight talk runs on the ATT network so I'll get it unlocked to safe
What is the best way to unlock a phone? Is it a similar to do like flashing via Odin?
You purchase a code, then you put in a different carrier sim card, then type in the code, and the phone is carrier unlocked. No flashing necessary.
Rooting means gaining access to the file system of your phone to install apps, delete files, etc.
If you have no warranty on your phone, you may be able to downgrade to 4.1.1, unlock, and run OTA updates to get back to KK.
I have the Canadian version (sgh-i317m) of the Note 2 that was running the latest 4.4.2. I used Odin to flash back to stock 4.1.1 which tripped the knox counter, unlocked, and flashed back to stock 4.4.2.

Unlocking Dual sim capabilities

Hi, I'll begin by saying that although I've been tweaking phones since windows mobile days, I'm a complete noob when it comes to samsung devices.
I bought an S9 from Altice Dominican Republic, the model is G9600 (Snapdragon variant)and the baseband version is G9600ZCU1ARBG, I suspect that this model might be dual sim capable, so I have the following questions:
1-how can I confirm if it is actually dual sim capable?
2-if number one is true, how do I enable the secondary sim?
3-Can I flash a "clean" firmware version to it without tripping Knox, nor voiding the warranty?
Sorry if this has been clearly answered somewhere in the forums, but I searched and could find a clear answer to this, but rather "hints" that it might be possible to either enable the second sim or flash an non-carrier firmware to it.
Thanks.
# 3 you cant avoid tripping knox also the EU has a warranty even if you trip it, its still under warranty along as you got proof of purchase

thanks for replying, So as soon as I flashed a official rom from another region Knox will be tripped? I thought knox only tripped if it was a custom rom. Regarding the other two question does anybody else have a clue?
