Make my TMobile S4 usable in India...please... - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hi all,
I would like to start off by saying that i dont care about any warranty or any such issues. I had bought a S4 in US which i brought to India without ever activating on T Mobile network. This means that on contacting T Mobile, they are unable to send me any activation code which could SIM Unlock my device.
So now my only problem is to make my device usable. I see two options:
a) SIM Unlock
b) Complete removal of firmware and install some custom ROM, bootloader and other components to get rid of T mobile network
Problem is that i am a newbie and couldnt find any thread that could help me. MY device is updated to the latest version i.e. i am on 4.4.2 with baseband as M919UVUF9B4 and knox bootloader
Can someone help me out. I have already tried rooting the device and trying some apps which suggested that would help me unlock my device but none of them worked..
Thanks

If you paid T-Mobile the full price for the phone approx US$500-US$600 (not the subsidized price) before you left, they should provide you with the SIM Unlock code. You may need to talk with another customer service agent. However, if you only paid the subsidized price, then you've broken the contract with them, and they won't. You'll have to contact a company that will sell you an unlock code.
As to rooting the phone, have you tried this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2294005 ?
If this doesn't work, you're doing it wrong.

Flashing a custom rom will not allow it to work on a different network. The phone will still be sim locked.
Like the post above me says, call T Mobile and have them give you the code. If you didn't pay the phone off, they won't give it to you nor should they.

Chainfire's Region Lockaway app will SIM unlock in the process of removing region restrictions. I remember reading something to that effect anyway.

For use chainfire's Region Unlock, you must be root.

@Skipjacks & rlichtefeld: I have already tried calling T Mobile and they are not ready to provide me any unlock code since the phone was never used on the network. Yes, its paid in full but i am in India now and cannot do much from back here to fight with them.
Have already tried chainfire's Region Unlock but its unusable on 4.4.2.
Please suggest the ways in which i can unlock my phone which is on 4.4.2 with baseband as M919UVUF9B4 and knox bootloader and i request you to please do not assume that phone is blacklisted or the warranty be void. i just want my phone to work here and that's it.

id suggest you find a website that unlocks phones, it usually costs less than 10 bucks or probably like 500 or so rupees but it should save you a lot of headaches

best choice for unlocking my phone?

i bought a new GN2 and it has firmware t889uvall4 which i need to downgrade in order to unlock. If i downgrade i would have to start setting my phone again from scratch. What's my best choice unlocking my sim with firmware t889uvall4
Best choice would be do a nandroid.
Flash the november release using odin from here showthread.php?t=1969551
dont set up anything just skip everything until you get to the home screen. unlock it using the service code method.
Once you do that you can restore your nandroid and be back to where you were to start but now you will be unlocked.
can I still revert back eventhough my device is unroot. I just
flash it via odin?

Best Choice is call t-mobile.
Unlocking the sim is now illegal on all phones purchased recently.
Plus by calling and getting the code (for free) you don't even need to toot.

What should i tell tmobile, i know that most of the time they refuse to give u the unlock sim. and those this void warranty?
someone said to nandroid which requires a different recovery. i'm trying to avoid root for warranty purpose so this option is no good for me.
EDIT: tmobile is willing to give the unlock code but my account has to be at least 60 days. i only have a week
If you bought the phone outright they should give you the code with no waiting period

illegal in the US. I'd take my device cross border to Mexico and voila. Piss on America's corporate friendly, consumer screwing laws.
That said, T-mo is pretty good about unlocking devices for you. I never had an issue in the past 10 years and I've unlocked 5 or so.

How to sim unlock the trac phone sgh-s970g galaxy s4...and possibly others

Ok so this is still a work in progress but it works, and lte works on my att and tmobile sims. Ill post as many screen shots and be detailed as I possibly can so bear with me.....
So i have a samsung galaxy s4 the sgh-s970g, and a customer needed it unlocked so I thought I would give it a try. Its been a fun phone to mess with. So I am on 4.2.2 and this is the only version I have tested on. I havent tested on 4.3 so let me know if it works for you.
So my baseband is MH3. I used saferoot to root the phone and then I used the twrp for the m919 version to get a custom recovery. after this i went into recovery and made a nandroid. I would advice you do the same if your going to try this, because I am in no way responsible for anything that happens to your phone it will trip your knox counter and your warranty is now void.
ok so I have a tmobile sim in the phone the whole time because it gives you a invalid sim message and when you get rid of that the phone is unlocked. Now I flashed the wicked v-8 4.2.2 custom m919 rom onto the phone. And after that i booted it up like normal and had no problems booting it. So when it finally boots up this is what I see....
know with the tmobile rom it is asking for a sim unlock code. This is where it gets a little tricky.. Youll need to download region lock.apk
you can get it from the play store or from the developer on xda, (great app by the way). So now is when i procedded to use spt box to unlock part of this but i believe you can do it without the spt. so just set your phone up and when your done your settings should look like this... youll still have straight talk radio but everything else including kernel is the tmobile m919.
Ok so now go ahead and open up the region unlock apk and instead of pressing unlock your going to lock it. when its done go ahead and reboot it and then its going to ask your for a password again but this time you know it.. Its going to be 00000000, or atleast it was for me but like I said i dont believe spt is needed to reset the efs i believe the region lock apk will do this and it shoould say unlock succesful like this...
the only kicker is anytime you reboot your phone your going to have to run region lock and lock your modem and then reboot and type in the 8 zeros to unlock if someone figures out a better way that would be awesome.. I also believe this method could be used to help unlock the s4 l720t and sm-n900p without the assisstance of sprint. Any feedback and help would be greatly appreciated and enjoy your unlocked phone....

Region away app works only up to 4.3, so I guess you need to downgrade the baseband to L720T's MK3 modem.
No harm in trying.
Ive tried that

I can only find a 4.3 ROM for L720T not any version before it.
So, just to clarify, do we have to use the ROM or can we do this on stock? I have two of these LTE-T marked phones from Straight Talk that I'd like to use AT&T Straight Talk SIMs with.
tried this on a stock tmobile mdl firmware with the mh3 baseband with no go.. What am i doing wrong?

Yes i have, Tracfone will have to provide an update to fix the issue. Reason is that everytime you enter the code its accepted. But as soon as you reboot the phone it asks for the code again. So not sure how tracfone will handle this.
Well I returned my $250 Black Friday special as I just have no faith in getting an unlock code for these Galaxy S4s as I wanted to use it on AT&T and I had picked up the Tmobile version. I'll have to settled for a used item instead.
So will this phone work with a straight talk att Sim and a tmo Sim as long as its through ST?
After fallowing all the steps I get to the 8 0's hit enter and it just sits at the screen, and says unsuccessful. Sgh-s970g bb:mh3 av:4.2.2
Anyone know of a pay site to unlock this device. The one legit one was for over seas and I'm in US. I tried offering straight talk money and they said this phone needs to be active for 5 more months before they'll provide me the unlock code. I guess you need 12 months of active service to be eligible for the unlock program. The only thing is, is it will only work on a straight talk T-Mobile Sim until then. Tia.
It DOES work. I installed the wikid v8 rom on a SHG-S970G this morning, opened region lock, unlocked modem, relocked modem rebooted, and entered my unlock code and BAM, Successful unlock. Thanks a grand! By the way i bought the unlock code on a 3rd party site. Im now running ATT on the phone.
Straighttalk will only unlock phones purchased on or after Dec 2013, currently active on ST Service & have been active for 12 consecutive months, if you call the unlock department you will be transferred to their automated information center if your phone is not eligible for unlocking, this is just to inform you of the requirements to unlock your device.
ST unlock
I've had mine 6 months... Called them 5 times and they told me everytime they couldn't unlock my phone (sgh s970g). So.. I used CHIMURA to root for free. Installed the m919 twrp for recovery. Installed wikid v8 using twrp installed regionlockaway locked the modem rebooted, entered my unlock code and it gave me a successful unlock. As stated I'm running a Straighttalk AT&T sim on mine.
Extrapolate to S5?

Experiences SIM unlocking SGH-I747 (Galaxy S III) AT&T 4.3 with codes

Has any one had positive experiences with SIM unlocking the AT&T sgh-i747 (Galaxy S III) after the 4.3 update with a code??
I paid $14.99 to SamMobile to unlock using their software but it didn't work and they don't answer my emails. But that's not with a code
Admins: if there is a thread for this already, please point me to it. I could not find one with successes after the 4.3 update
Note that AT&T didn't want to give me a code: I had cancelled the service already and paid the ETF (foolish, I know), and now they don't care about me
I've seen plenty if users have success unlocking with a code. I don't know about how sammobile does it though.
You have to be stock for it to work BTW.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T999 using Tapatalk
Thanks doc. By "stock" you mean the official ROM without root? As I said, it's not the original version (4.1.1) but the OTA update to 4.1.3 by AT&T
I will have to buy some code
Root doesn't matter. Many custom stock based ROMs will also work but some may have removed some needed files which is why I just said stock. As long as its stock based and has the stock dialer it should work though.

So, no one has any experience to share? has anyone unlocked a Galaxy S III 4.3 with a code? It's OK if you prefer to PM that info to avoid being interpreted as advertising
Official AT&T Unlock Code Fails
My contract ended id-September so I requested an unlock code, which was previded (below). I sent two separate requests for the unlock code and the number provided twice matches. I tried the unlock code (while using a T-Mobile SIM card) twice and the phone said the code was incorrect.
I prepared the phone by doing a factory reset. These are the phone details:
Model number
Samsung-SGH-I747 running
Android version
4.4.2
baseband
I747UCUFNE4
kernel

These are the instructions provided:by AT&T:
Thank you for contacting AT&T Customer Care about unlocking your AT&T Mobile device. We have reviewed your request and confirmed that the device may be unlocked. You should complete the unlock process before porting out your number for use with another carrier. Please allow 24 hours upon receipt of this notification to complete the unlock process.
Your Unlock Code is :12345678
Unlock Steps - Use Non-AT&T SIM Card
1. Power off the device and insert a non-AT&T SIM card.
2. Power on the device.
3. Network Lock displays: Enter the device unlock code.
4. Enter the eight-digit unlock code.
5. Press OK.
Note: You are allowed five attempts to unlock before your device permanently locks to the AT&T network. Note: If your device has been altered from the original manufacturer's standards, such as rooting the device, your unlock code may not work and you will need to contact the original manufacturer for assistance.
For questions regarding AT&T Mobile device, please visit the Phone/Device Learning Center. Thank you for your business. For other questions about our AT&T wireless service or other Mobile devices, please visit att.com.
I've tried the unlock twice and it did not work. The phone is rooted. I think I manually installed 4.4.2 because the OTA failed many time to update.
I think these instructions are confusing in that step 3 and step 4 both say enter the unlock code. Is there a second code? I thought an phone unlock code is a single 8-digit number.
I have successfully unlocked an old HTC Aria so I have a little bit of experience performing unlocks. But if you have advice I'd appreciate hearing your thought.

Yes, the IMIE shown on the label and via About device --> Status are identical. I asked AT&T twice for the unlock code because I thought maybe I sent the wrong code. I'm 99.9% sure the IMIE number I used is correct.
Yes, the flavor of Android installed is the AT&T version. If I recall, in August 2014 I used ODIN to manually install 4.4.2 because the over-the-air update was not working. (The OTA would download but fail to install. I'd wait for two or three days before I could try a second, third, forth... time.) I have also done a reset via Accounts --> Backup and reset. The MicroSD card was erased too, through the reset process. The lock screen, the home screen, all the typical AT&T add-on applications seem to be as they were when I purchased/upgraded the phone two years ago.
4.4.2 is rooted and I have Chainfire's SuperSU v2.00 Pro installed.
I should mention this: When I look at About device --> Status, all the way at the bottom, is "Device status" which shows "Custom". This isn't a setting. I suppose this is why the network unlock code is not working.
I'm not sure what to do next. I can't recall the page on XDA which guided me through the install of 4.4.2. I'll look a little harder because I'm sure I used XDA as my guide for the upgrade. Perhaps I'll try to install a non-root 4.4.2 image.
I never expected that I'd have five and only five tries at network unlock. I've used three tries... I need to make sure the last two work! Any advice is appreciated.
Sorry, I'm out of ideas. All I can suggest is flashing back to completely stock with stock recovery and no root access.

In my case AT&T told me they would not give me a code until I paid off my contract. I would seem they don't care about their former or current customers.
I showed them though, I was still on 4.1.2 and simply donwgraded my modem and used the free unlock method. It's now time to upgrade to kitkat.
@wpscully
Don't know if you still need help, but maybe this would do the trick? I think it's the last post that's describing a different method of getting the unlock code to work.

@DocHoliday77, your pointer you mention above has proven invaluable. For the record here is the link I used; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55677344&postcount=137 MrBrown72 has a secret code and menu selections which seem to tell my phone to ignore all the customizations I made (root, maybe removing some AT&T bloat) and accept the valid network unlock code AT&T provided when my contract ended. The phone is now working on T-Mobile, rooted still, and none the worse for wear. I also want to thank Audit13 for advice on what not to do, and well as his guiding me so I found the hints that the phone considered itself "custom".
Finally I'll mention that if I had not been able to unlock this phone I never, ever would have selected AT&T as a cell provider. In this process they were professional, respectful, and helpful. T-Mobile didn't get my old line transferred before my AT&T contract ended. AT&T probably could have made clearing up this transfer very hard. But they were kind, understanding and efficient in reinstating my old number briefly so T-Mobile could finish the transfer.
I know others have had trouble with vendors. I wish all companies could understand that being unhelpul or rude is the fastest way to lose a customer for life.

HTC One M8 Sim Unlock Code

bought HTC One M8 EE UK phone on ebay, seller said that phone was unlocked, but when I tried to install my Vodafone sim, phone is not accepted it. I thought that any company will unlock it without any problems. but when I have checked IMEI using imei checker option, it showed that phone is hard locked. IMEI is . I've tried around 7 different companies and no one can't get correct unlock code for this phone, some of them even do not gave me refund at all :crying:
Really need to use this phone for phone calls. after some research found some new htc unlocking services where hard locked phones are supported. just want to make sure before purchase, is anyone from forum members used that services before? really don't want to spend money for nothing. please advice.

Which service should I use?
You should never use an unlock service that will not refund your money when unsuccessful. Literally, they can do nothing to get the code and take your money, and say it was "hard locked" or whatever.
Also, your IMEI is personal data, and you should not post your IMEI on open forums. Nothing good can come from that, so please delete your IMEI from your post.
I've seen folks here recommend cellunlocker.net. But I can't vouch for that website personally.
Really, you should also seek remedy through the seller or eBay. The item is not as described, and you should be able to get a refund or exchange.

I thought that any company will unlock it without any problems. but when I have checked IMEI using imei checker option, it showed that phone is hard locked. IMEI is.

FWIW, my brother in law successfully unlocked my old htc one m8 that was locked to ATT a couple of days ago using unlockbase.com. Now using on Turkish carrier. Said it cost him ~10 bucks. Good luck.

Is it a stock rom or have you flashed a custom one?
I had to go back from Cyanogenmod 13 as the code didn't work. When I put the stock rom back on it worked first time.
Good luck!

You can use RUU. Or you some custom Sense ROMs will work, if close enough to stock. Or you can restore the stock TWRP backup from the collection sticky to the top of this Q&A forum section.
Or restore you own TWRP backup of stock Sense ROM. Which you should always make before flashing custom ROMs, root, etc. (assuming you didn't buy a used phone with custom ROM on it, and you modded it yourself).

Flashing custom rom or rooting remove network lock?

would just want to know by any chance if flashing another rom pr rooting the device will remove the network lock of my carrier?
Thank you
I need a method to unlock the device, tried a lot of paid services already, most of them dont have an unlock code yet for my device and some sent me a wrong unlock code

As far as I'm aware NO it won't remove carrier lock, you'll just have to wait for that to become available......:good:
No it won't work
Thank you

The most reliable unlocking company would be the carrier itself

Hi
I made a stupid mistake with my G988B, its were not working well, so I decided install a stock rom, but downloaded and installed o last version of software from another country (G988BXXS2ATD5, XEF ) whit Security Level Patch of may 1, 20.
After installed new stock rom, my phone ask for Network Unlock Code.
When realized of my mistake, tried reinstall orignal version of firmware (G988BXXU1ATCT, PGU) but nothing work for me. I have tried to flash with Odin, but always, process stop in "flashing vbmeta.img."
I have read a lot tread trying figure out my problem like: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s20/how-to/howto-root-s20-series-upgrade-firmware-t4079353/post82220417#post82220417
There is a way to come back original stock rom and then trying unlock network?
Could this process work in my case without damaging my phone?
Thanks.

Thanks por your answer, but I did it.
It doesnt work.
Samkey is the only way to unlock a Samsung phone other than getting the network unlock code from the network or third party. You must know what you are doing. Google the process. If that doesn't work then there is an issue here that needs further investigation. Also ensure your active csc code is the one that was originally on the phone as well as stock rom. Sam key can be used to change csc as well.
Good luck

Thanks mikey_sk,
My problem is that both the csc code and the stock rom are not the original ones. Therefore I am looking for a guide to help me how to get back to the stock rom.
I have read that the problem is, the security patch that I installed as it is newer than the one I am trying to reinstall. I will keep trying.
I understand that so far there is no way to go back from binary 2 to binary 1.
Any help is appreciated.

Ok,
Thanks.
No more questions.
You can always use the sim slot 2, it is usually not locked.
I suggest you change the csc to a stock one using Sam key. Make sure you enable USB debugging in developer settings otherwise Sam key won't work. After that dowload the most recent stock rom for that device from sammobile and flash in ODIN but DO NOT use HOME_CSC so it can do a full wipe and rebuild the firmware. As an added measure as soon as installed go into recovery and do a full wipe. If network is still locked try unlocking it with samkey

Unfortunately for it, you mentioned only sim1 is blocked and you still can use sim2.
This is not network lock but rather imei blacklist.
The only way to fix this is to pay your telco bills from where you purchased the phone. If it's a used phone, I would get a refund. There is no roms you can use that can fix it as it's blacklisted from the telcos.
There is only 2 reasons it is locked.
1. You didn't pay your installment bills.
2. The phone is reported as stolen.
If you purchased a used phone, get a refund.
