Hey guys,
I had this idea that seems pretty obvious to me but I'm not sure if its feasible.
Is there a way to build a kitkat ROM where the nav and status bar are always consistently translucent (like in the homescreen?)
Thanks in advance

What is it going to display? For the launcher it is displaying the wallpaper. But nothing to display when you open an app. In case of Paranoid Android it displays a white bar if I make it transparent. And if you enlarge the area available to the app and add the translucent bars, it will block you from accessing some parts of the apps.

Isn't it possible to have paranoid androids per app color feature and to add translucency along with the background color of the status and nav bars though?

Better to run in extended desktop mode w/PIE controls to take full advantage of our 4.65" screen.

Some apps will, but most don't.

I see..so i guess each individual app needs to go ahead and apply their background in the navbar and status bar areas for KitKat devices...which should be really simple, but for some reason they haven't gotten around to it yet..it would make android so much cooler looking..it's basically native per app color that should be instant..
Anyway this is just mu thoughts on the matter and what i would do if i were developing for kitkat devices (which most major apps are already doing, but no UI enhancementa yet)
Thanks for the reply man

i just wanted to change battery.icon on top signals and wifi on the top right side of clock is there any way
I remember one of the first ROMs i flashed on my nexus was Code Name Android, and it had the option to hide the navigation bar on the lock screen only.
is this something that can easily be implemented into JB? i noticed it was taken off of ROMs because it interfered with incoming calls when the screen was on (wasn't able to answer call) just curious if it was ever fixed or if this is a simple mod that i could do myself with some layout tweaks or something.
anyone have a clue?
I use Widgetlocker - lock screen replacement app, and it has an option to hide the navigation bar. I highly recommend it, very customizable with tons of sliders/themes to choose from and is very light on using system resources and draining battery.

you sure about that? i know it has the option to hide the navigation bar buttons, but the black bar is still there.
i want the wallpaper to go from the notification bar all the way down to the bottom of the screen.

Oh okay. If that's the case then you'll need to go a different route. Widgetlocker just blacks it out.

Here is a screen cap of what it looks like.

Its not quite as bad on the device as it blends into the bottom of the phone but still not using the complete screen.

Hello, can somebody port this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2236937&page=3 to our devices as well ? when i flash it the dock icons are all out of order ;\
It is working great for me, you have to flash the xhdpi version. The only "issue" is the page indicator in homescreen, the dock icons overlap the page indicator but thats ok. You can also enable pie and expanded desktop and it will look beautiful.

Its working great when the dock icons overlap the page indicator ???
I don't know what your phones look like but for me its looking absolutely ugly !!
I also really hope that one of our genius devs here can take a look into it and ADJUST it so that it is working fine ( without the need of pie ).
The launcher is nice. I found another issue. If you set it on list view and have folder created, then you can't open it.
I think i found out why its happening... unlike other XHDPI phones the nexus has onscreen buttons right? so the launcher gives space from the bottom for the nav bar compressing the contents of the launcher together causing the overlaps. I guessed this since i tried this on Paranoid Android and when i put the nav bar size to 0%, and used Pie Navigation, the overlapping was gone. But bring back the nav bar though.... the icons overlap again.
Im still using it along with pie right now and havnt found any other issues with the launcher except for some lags.
Here's a screen shot... :good:
I will post a flashable zip on the launcher later
This is how it looks on my galaxy nexus

Is there a way to get the notification bar when it drops down to be glassy like the new thing that shows up in iOS 7 when u swipe up and it shows some quick settings and stuff? I think it would look better than the dark grey see thru color.
Lots of ROMs let u chose a custom background picture for that, find a picture like that and use it or create one, you can even maker it semi transparent if you like...

I have been through so many roms, I can't remember which one allows you to, try paranoid or a PAC ROM. You can also Cook up your own on the online uot kitchen or pull the file from your phone and edit it.

Are there any devs or someone smarter than me, that could theme the top notification bar and bottom navigation bar to be semi transparent/fully transparent like how it is on the homescreen w kitkat, so when im in an app it could still be transparent instead of big black bars?
I'm a newb when it comes to editing ui files etc, thanks for the help.

I think when you update to 4.4.2 Google gave all the devices the transparency on both the nav bar and notification bar. Its even on the lockscreen too. If you open up some app they take advantage of it. Some apps don't such as fb. I think its up to the developers to update their apps. So I'm not convinced you need to modify your frameworks or anything like that its all enabled bone stock =]

yeah im just wondering, if its possible to modify the files to make it to where even if an app hasn't, the black will still be semi transparent, b/c im sure there will be plenty of developers who choose to not bother adding it

I tried this before on aokp jellybean, its ugly because the transparency isnt within the apps (just like iOS) but the homescreen you can see your wallpaper while inside an app lol i guess it all depends on the app if it wants you to use full emersion :/

Use gravity box module with xposed
Only nexus 5 has transparent bar, nexus 4 update to 4.4.2 cannot install latest android home launcher.
You mean like this?

Just went thru an rooted installed this mod, literally does everything, except transparency lol Thanks tho for the help/replies guys.
Just use a custom rom with it built in. Custom roms have had transparencies way back in the day. Where do you think Google got the idea?
Xposed does this well. You have to enable transparency AND have a launcher and touchscreen that supports it. If your launcher doesn't support it then it won't work. Gotta have both.
