swapping kills memory card brother
also try to flash stock rom through odin
also try flashing stock rom without any sd card in slot
if you are not able to do so then i think your ace 2 is bricked

Hm, you can use download mode as long as the SBL is booting (as you can see by the boot logo)...
Maybe try factory mode (usb jig)?

Yeah, I've ordered a USB jig, so I'll try that when it comes if I don't find a solution before..
I can't get it to boot into download mode or recovery, so I don't know how I'd be able to flash with Odin..
I have been able to get odin to recognize it once in a while by messing around with different 3 button combinations, but when I press start on Odin, it just sits at "setup connection"

okay, so i finally got the usb jigs in the mail, and so i put a battery in the phone, plug in the jig, and all it does is light up the screen for a few seconds then shuts off and repeats endlessly. but i noticed that if i plug the jig in for a quick second, i see the samsung screen where it says the model number but then it shuts off. now if i press power agian without removing the battery, the samsung screen with the model number comes up again, but the phone still shuts off after a couple of seconds... i dont know what to make of it...

Hard bricked, send back to Samsung and play dumb or see if one of those "we unlock all phones - international sim cards - cheap accessories" places can reflash it with JTAG

Okay, thanks a lot, I appreciate the help. Any idea how much one of those jtag systems cost, and which system I would need to get? I mess around with phones all the time and if it's not too expensive, it'd be handy to have around in case of future hard bricks...

I've quicky googled them a month ago and they appear to be about 70 € IIRC, and if you're serious about them remember that having a complete dump of the exact phone you have will make it 100% unbrickable

By unbrickable you mean that I'll always be able to reflash it and revive it? Or that it won't be able to be bricked again? And I noticed many different jtag systems on eBay, which one would you suggest that I get?

Oh, the first
Basically, since you can read and write all the flash through it, just create a full dump when it's working and restore it when you hardbrick or... uh, get no display in recovery and want to fix it quickly  (for anything else flashing with Odin is probably quicker)
From what I've read RIFFBox is one of the most popular ones https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TTjZgQYRfw, it's probably a little overpriced for what it is but it's aimed at the "professional" market of those independent service shops...

Possibility of bricking & how to avoid it..

Is anyone manage to brick the phone already?
How likely/ or stupidity you need to actually bricking the phone?
What is a NO NO and how to avoid it?
That's the question.. thanks!
Main thing is read as much as you can before you do any changes, it helps to check what few sites say.
When I rooted my phone I could not get it to run the update part, tried time and time again, one site said "rename the file to update.zip and paste it" then I read on another site to just call it update as it is already a zip file.....and then it worked, small bit of detail like that stopped it working to start with so if I was you I check a few sites and get all the info you need, but also as many would say if you are that unsure dont take the risk and wait for samsung updates with Kies.

Kies actually failed to update my phone, I have the Korean Galaxy S SHW-M100S, and it showed an update was available. So, I thought I was bricked for about 30 mins, kept trying to get it to work itself out of the problem in recovery mode, after about 4 tries (1 reboot of Windows, plus changing USB ports and 2nd try with this static new config) eventually it did, thank God.
Do not remove usb while in the middle of flashing with odin

I've removed the cable half way and rebooted, and it was fine..
You simply remove the USB cable, battery again, put the battery in, and you'll be able to get to downloader mode.
The phone seems to have a component that ODIN doesn't touch that is read-only that handles download mode. Most hardware devices tend to have safeguards. I haven't confirmed this, but I've noticed the same applies to NAS devices (which tend to have a special redboot which uses tftp).
I have still yet to have seen any evidence of anyone permanently bricking their phone, but I've seen a few cases of "oops, got it working again".
Remember, Samsung are eager to reduce their support costs, and failsafe's are cheap and easy to add.
yes, the odin doesn't touch the 'bootloader' , or the small piece of code that enable the download mode, so there's no way you can brick the phone.
I have tried to repartition the phone while flashing firmware that has nothing except the csc data (i.e. no kernel, no factory rfs, etc) and the flash procedure went succesfully but in actual fact, my phone contains a new set of partitions that contain nothing except the small csc data.
and i still able to reflash, although I must make sure that the phone is totally shutdown (i.e. take out battery, let it stay for awhile before putting back)

I thought in the Big FAQ, it said... do not disconnect the usb-cable but to remove the battery if want to interrupt it...
7.The phone will be flashed and once it’s finished, it will boot up. (Do NOT disconnect the usb-cable, remove the battery or otherwise interrupt this process!)

Similar happened to me,although I didnt pull the battery, the phone just disconnected halfway through the flash.
Had half hour of panic, where I thought it was bricked.
Had to do a few battery pulls, restart PC a couple of times and mess around with different USB ports, but finally got it working.
Have flashed a 3 times since without a problem.

That means you shouldn't do any of those things! So don't disconnect usb, don't remove the battery and don't interrupt the process.

Are you sure that flashing (through ODIN) in any case never touch that "Download Mode" piece of code ? Even you select all the options in ODIN ?
Can anyone confirm this ? Actually I want to play with Kernel and RFS (have some ideas to try) but afraid of full bricking. So if this download mode is always present then I can play with it without any problem.
Waiting for response.

Believe me! you can still access the download menu
The bootloader is almost always writeprotected and cannot be overwritten. You would probably have to connect a cable to some internal port like Jtag to be able to reflash the bootloader section. Atleast that is the case in 99% of all bootloaders. Im very certain that you cannot cripple the bootloader.

gosh man, thanks correcting me but if that's the case, what should i do if it doesn't reboot by itself?
take out the battery, wait for 30 to 60 secs, put the battery in and start phone with vol down + menu + power
Don't disconnect the usb or do anything else while flashing!!!
I removed the usb cable when it started flashing (i thinked it was stuck, happens sometimes), and since it does not boot anymore. I press the power button, volUp + home + power, volDown + home + power... nothing happens.... it's dead, doesn't turn on at all...
after all i have read i think it's almost impossible to brick the sgs since you always get back into download-mode. the only case i read where i believe that it's a goner is flashing with the wrong (in this case the at&t) odin version. those guy's just got a white sreen with at&t logo at boot. they didn't get into download mode any more because the button mapping on the captivate is different ... so thats really bad luck, dont't try that at home

help - I did something bad

I know I didn't brick my phone because I can still get into bootloader. I've tried to connect to Odin (several times following instructions to remove battery, restart pc, etc) and Odin won't recognize phone in bootloader. I was trying to update to gingerbread 2.3.5 using Odin and it got stuck. it said 'writing, wait 2 minutes' and I waited 8 mins and it never did anything. was I just inpatient? Now when I try to restart my phone it tells me manual files were installed and to hit the OK button. I have no OK button and I've tried all the screen buttons and the 3 hardware buttons to select 'reboot' as instructed per the phone and none work. So I pull the battery and start the vicious cycle all over again. I've been searching and searching (for the past 2hrs) trying to solve this on my own and I'm stuck. I need this phone as it's my work phone and I just got it Friday! (owned by me, not my company thankfully!) please help. thank you.

The only thing I can think of as I have never seen this B4. try holding power down,it takes awhile but it should reboot. I will try to get ahold of more info for you. No promises though. But rule of thumb Be patient.
One last thing where did you get the update from? ie 2.3.5. It helps to know what you were trying to flash.

Of the responses so far, I'd start with a new microUSB cable. Whether the current cable worked 30 seconds ago or not, that could certainly be a potential issue, might as well rule it out.
After that, a few things to consider:
1) Can you get into recovery? [Hold Vol. Up] + [Power] for as long as it takes to get to the recovery screen (anywhere from 15 seconds to two minutes of solid holding.) If you can get to recovery, you are going to be in business. If after 120 seconds it hasn't gone into recovery, move on.
2) In your post, you refer to "bootloader", technically correct, but want to make sure you are referring to Odin download mode. The whole "instructions to remove battery, restart pc, etc" throws me off, you shouldn't have to do any of that. Just to make sure, what you want to do is:
Start up Odin 1.85 on your PC
Power down phone
Wait for capacitative button lights to turn off
Simultaneously Press and Hold [Power] + [Vol. Dn] until confirmation screen appears
Press [Vol. Up] to enter Download mode
Connect USB cable to the phone and then to the PC
ODIN should show COM port in first slot
3) If you can successfully get into ODM and the COM port in the first slot lights up, you are golden. Follow the rest of the steps here and you are all set to move forward or hang out from that point.
4) "I was trying to update to gingerbread 2.3.5 using Odin and it got stuck. it said 'writing, wait 2 minutes' and I waited 8 mins" I'm thinking maybe you flashed with Bootloader, Phone or CSC selected rather than PDA in the Odin menu. If that is the case you should still be able to get into ODM as shown above.

Put the files like this in Odin:

"GT-I9100-CSC-MULTI-OXAKI3.tar.md5"? Aren't you on the E4GT? So flashing all of these files for an international SGSII would be the first issue. What forum did you get these from?
This might be a big issue afterall. Get back to me on where you got the files and I'll see if I can come up with something in the meantime.
EDIT: One thing that will work for sure, but you'd have to wait for it to come in is a $2 jig. Once you get it, you'll back in business in less than 2 seconds. Mine took 5 days via standard shipping. You could do expedited shipping if you need it faster. In lieu of that, I will keep thinking about what you can do tonight.
EDIT 2: I know you said that you have driver's installed an all, but if you downloaded them where you got those files, they might not be what you need for this phone. You might try going to the E4GT Auto Root thread and get everything you need to start fresh from there.
Then/or try this again:
Disconnect phone, and remove battery (wait 30 -60 seconds or so).
Re-insert the battery and power the phone as I noted before by simultaneously pressing and holding [Power] + [Vol. Dn] until confirmation screen appears
Press [Vol. Up] to enter Download mode
Make sure NPS and KIES are NOT running IMPORTANT
Start up Odin v1.85
Keep trying to connect the phone to get a COM port lit. If it's not working, try changing USB ports. Try every port on your PC.
Keep trying, I've seen odin fail to recognize phones over and over and then
suddenly recognize it out of nowhere.

Yes, the jig should definitely work and it is a good idea to have one around anyway, just in case you ever need to go back to stock to return the phone or something.
But I am certain you can fix it at home in the meantime. I just need to remember or find how.

Yeah, definitely not the right files for our phone, but don't worry, yet, I think you can recover from this. The fear is that the radio is borked as those are GSM phones and we are a CDMA phone. I haven't really read much about this issue, but I know it has happened to others. If you have time, you might search around for something like "oops, flashed SGSII GSM files on my E4GT CDMA phone" or something like that and see if anyone else figured out the fix.
I did not think there was a update to 2.3.5 for the epic 4g touch. I thought only the European versions received that update. The only update I know of for our phones was 2.3.6.
Plz link or direct where you downloaded this update you flashed. If it is the European update you will need to install the drivers for that model for Odin to recognize your phone. Then reflash the proper update.

Plz link or direct where you downloaded this update you flashed. If it is the European update you will need to install the drivers for that model for Odin to recognize your phone. Then reflash the proper update.

Wow bythe time I typed this all is revealed. The 2.3.5 was the giveaway.

It should not kill your radio. I fixed a buddys phone that kinda did the same thing. Main thing is get the drivers for the euro sgs 2. Then Odin should see your device. Then use just s's guide from there.
One last thing the jig is not be needed. You can already get into download mode. Your phone is ready for flashing. What you need are drivers for the the computer to recognize your phone.

Yep, this is exactly right.
@nursemm05 you need to find and install the drivers for the phone who's files you flashed. Make sure you know where you save the driver files and where they are installed. In fact, make a backup of your system so that you can restore your PC after you get your ET4G back to good.
Once you can get back into Odin, flash the tar file (singular) that I linked to and you will be back at stock. Then you can hit the other links and you will be very happy with your new setup.
Then do a system restore on your PC to before the i9000 driver's were installed and you should be back to good there as well.
Good luck!

[q] semi brick

Hello, I wanted to ask if anyone knows how to resolve a SEMI-BRICK. There is no way to enter recovery mode or fastboot.
Was installing a ROM when I got an error and never could turn on the phone. Only I get the screen with the mobile and pc with an exclamation mark in the middle.
Appreciate your help.
PS: sorry for my English
Javier
If you can't get to download mode you might be screwed. Can you get into download mode? If you can then you can just use odin or fastboot to push the factory rom to the phone and it will work again. Obviously you lose root but you can re-root afterwards. Good luck.
I find no way to enter download mode. in any way that I only try to turn the screen appears to indicate in the query.
There is no way to fix it?
thanks
Hey, in all the time on here I have never heard of a bricked Nexus.
Ok so just to be sure when the phone is off and you hold volume down and the power button it does nothing? Sorry just want to be sure this is the case...
probe all possible combinations and all leading me to the same, the screen with the exclamation mark. and on volume +, volume - and power and volume + and - and on
Ah no dude. That sounds bad. I might be wrong but you may need to go back to your provider and tell them it just switched off and wont work anymore.
Do you see the Google logo and the lock symbol when you turn it on or just this exclamation mark?
Obviously if you go back to your provider don't mention anything about roms or rooting as that voids your warranty but if they can't see the Google logo with the lock then they wont know you were rooting and romming it.
That would drive me crazy so I hope you get sorted soon.
The issue is that here in Argentina is not this phone. I bought online and sent me the U.S.. I have therefore not who wear it.
have you tried the usb jigs? i tried it on my nexus and it boots it into download mode

That might be worth a shot!
That I'll see if I can prove it today night. It is the only hope left for me.
Yeah, good luck man.
Well folks, with all the pain of the soul I confirm that I have is a full-BRICK. Last night at the JIG probe, and the only thing it does is turn on the phone and see the same screen BRICK. Since I can not think what else to do, only use it as a paperweight as they say
Any chance you try leaving battery out for a while, give it at least a good 10 minutes
Neither. I've left it up all night without battery and nothing.

Bad news Javii! So what are you going to do next?
Today I will try to recognize me either linux, so maybe you can do a fastboot to install the original rom. Because I said if you see the exclamation point is because it is a semi-brick
I used to get that screen with my Galaxy Tab when flashing the wrong ROM.
If the ODIN and original files are available for you to use, just use that and it should fix your phone.

Hard Bricked Sprint Galaxy s3 Need Help!!!

So I managed to Brick my sprint version of the galaxy s3. Like an idiot I overlooked a rom and used the i9300 version instead of my model version(nood move). Anyway I can't turn my phone on AT ALL!! I tried putting in into download and recovery and I get nothing. How do i fix this?? Anyone???
If u can't get download mode or recovery than there is no help. Maybe a jig if u have one but I'm not sure if they even work for the s3.

I thought I hard brick my sons phone and here is what I did: Worth a try at this point.
Take battery out and do NOT put it back in. Take SD card out. Plug phone into computer and attempt download mode. Mine booted right up with this method when it wouldn't with anything else. If it does flash the stock rom through Odin right away and you are good to go.

I just tried that and no luck. sounds like u soft bricked it. I can't get it to turn on period. The only thing that turns on is the lcd light but only for 10 seconds then shuts off. Thanks for the help though!
If your getting a light, even temporary, I'd boot a tinycore Linux and see what mode its in for that 10 seconds

Do you get a screen at all? You say you're softbricked but you also say it doesnt start up. If you are really just softbricked then you have a screen too, in which case you'll just look like an ass going to sprint because they will see you fuucked with it and laugh you out the store. If you are hardbricked then you would have just a black screen. If you have a screen, do some reading like you shouldve done in the first place and fix it yourself.

Mine was hard bricked and it couldn't be turned on period. If yours is soft brick then you should be able to get it back into download mode but you can't get it to turn on at all, then you have a hard brick. I went to sprint and got a brand new one because they couldn't fix it either. So unless they can fix it you will have to get a new one!
Also Hard Bricked.

I think you may have flashed your Sprint GS3 with an international GSM GS3 ROM. I think you are not going to be able to recover from that.

[Q] Samsung t989 Galaxy S II - Bootloop HELP please :(

I downloaded the Jedi Mind Trick JB 2 ROM and installed it via clocwork mod recovery .. That went fine but it took me a few days to realize I didnt have a working video camera anymore on my phone.. so I thought to flash a stock ROOTed rom instead...
Then I found this threat about an updated version of Jedi Mind Trick's ROM labled JB 3.. So I wiped as much as I could in recovery and chose to format all the options it gave me in recover , Format system , data , cache , emms(or something) .. and now when I boot the phone , it shows the first flash screen , and the samsung logo starts to shimmer then it reboots back to the splash screen and repeats this process everal times before just going black and sitting there..
So I've successfully bootlooped my phone doing this..
MY PROBLEM -- I don't know how to charge my phone or connect to it to install anything else..
Is this a serious problem? How can I charge my phone to continue troubleshooting it? It still has some battery to try some things but I don't know how to hook it up to transfer any other roms to it via USB cable and PC in it's current state..
I'm very computer savvy but I'm trying to learn this phone modding stuff and I realy hope I didn't brick my phone in this process.
Can someone please help me out here? I'll be on the forums religiously until I figure this out.
What should I start doing first??
Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!
still working at it
I think I'm at the point of having to use ODIN to flash a new rom since i cannot simply copy this rom to the sdcard to use clockwork to flash it .. Am I correct on this ?
For some reason this rom I found (should be stock rooted tmobile gSII rom) does not want to open from ODIN's PDA button cause its in .zip and not .tar or anything... I'm not sure how to flash this rom with ODIN ( I'm not even 100% sure this is how its supposed to go) Any suggestions ?
phew
UPDATE - So I managed to research enough to find out that there is no way to flash a CUSTOM rom with ODIN.. SO I had to download a stock (presumably rooted) t-mobile rom and flash THAT ...
Now I'm back up with a rooted rom and will begin re-installing clockwork and then my custom deodexed rooted rom afterward.
Thanks for all who almost kinda tried to care to reply in this past 2 hours =) -- As previously mentioned.. I am a nerd.. I just suck at phone modding. Haha
So , looks like I'm in the clear now and don't need any more support on this particular topic yet.

Is this true? Through a recommendation (haven't done anything to my phone from rooting/flashing KANGSJUGGERNAUT2 years ago), I tried to flash CM10 and ended up with a bootloop myself. Tried flashing through ODIN but it kept crashing; does anyone know why?
Afterward, I tried to reflash it through CWM and from then on bootloops into a installation process that never completes.
For some reason my CWM turned super slow, freezes/hangs and reboots after a few minutes.
I gave the phone to a friend who does this stuff on the regular but he said my initial flash wasn't complete cause in download mode says I'm still running official? No clue.
I was told this via email/chat: "No luck, it won't even boot anymore, I think I'll just bring it back tmrw morn
10:43 PM
Sorry I'm at a wedding (yea I know random) I left my phone with coat check
OK I've narrowed down the reason but not the solution, you had an AOKP based ROM which fundamentally is based on CyanogenMod, but it wasn't correctly flashed as the phone still thought it has factory ROMs still running
11:10 PM
Clockworkmod(even though it was working before) wasn't accessing the partitions of the phone correctly so it wasn't properly wiping or flashing properly.
11:12 PM
So basically from the first time you flashed cwm it didn't flash properly then the next time you flashed using the new recovery it didn't flash anything it was supposed to do itself properly , so basically it was a chain of events in addition to a bad boot loader, that's why it never went to recovery or download mode correctly
11:13 PM
That's something that had to do with the way the phone was built meaning you may of had a bad bootloader from the very begin and are now feeling the synptoms
Basically, and I would hate to be the reason or partially the reason you have a dead phone, basically it was a matter of coincedencr that it happened as this could of happened at anytime, once you have a bad boot loader its pretty much down hill from there"
Any helpful insight as how I can rectify this? is my phone truly dead? Sorry about the quoted format, it was copied and pasted.
If I were in your boat, I'd use Odin and flash the stock 4.1.2 ROM.

Pull battery, put battery back in, hold power button & Vol +/- untill you see SAMSUNG on the screen ---> let go off power button(keep holding

you can try using adb and put the phone in dl mode.
sometimes its as easy as pull battery and wait awhile (20 min or more) and try again.
if you've exhausted all possibilities, you can use a jig to force a dl mode.

I don't know what adb is, or how to use it; I have, however seen my friend RDP to my desktop and do something and used the term 'adb' in his attempt to code through the phone.
I've done that battery waiting period, for nearly an hour and still no result.
After doing some researching, I have found that many people have stated a USB JIG would not be applicable to a 'hard bricked' phone. I really wanted to try as it looked like the most, simple and inexpensive solution.
