Move apps to USB storage - Galaxy Ace II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I will swap memories on my Ace 2.
But I would know how to move apps on USB storage (which will be my SD Card).
If i part my sd card in ext2, can I make 2 partitions (9GB & 5GB) ? And does Link2SD will "know" that my USB Storage is my SD Card?
Thanks

1: In system settings select apps/[name]/"move to SD", or in Link2SD use the button with the same name. This moves part of the app to the internal (external after swapping) FAT partition and doesn't work for every app.
2: In Link2SD use the "symlink" features and the app will always go to the external ext2/3/4 partition.

About A2SD+

my a2sd storage is 683mb and internal storage is 63mb, what if my internal storage is full, what will happen, the left over file i install will go to a2sd storage? or it shows my internal memory is full and some apps need to be delete?
When internal memory is full you have to delete apps or if you have space on system partition left you can move them from /data/app to /system/app.
If you really want to install a lot of apps you might want to look in to changing your MDT partition or using Data2sd.
Bear in mind that you can also use cache cleaners to free up some space.

then there's no point to get a a2sd+ partition more than 500mb right?
Is there a way to choose your apps to install to internal storage or a2sd+ storage?
You can make a partition of 512 MB, which should be suffice. If you plan on installing hundreds of apps, you may want to set your partition to 1024 MB.
You can choose to either install apps either to internal memory or partially (the app data) to external storage (sd card) in Settings > Applications > Manage Applications. Select the app, select 'Move to phone' or 'Move to SD card'. After installation of some apps, by default, will either install to internal memory or to the SD card.

Here's a question I wondered about A2SD...
When you connect phone to USB/PC and mount the SD card as mass storage then the phone can't use the SD. Any apps which were installed on the normal SD partition (using Froyo move to SD) would stop working.
Am I right in assuming that this isn't true for the rooted A2SD EXTx partition - As windows can't see the EXTx partition would I be correct in thinking the phone would still have it mounted correctly. Apps installed on there (SMS app etc) would continue to work when the SD was mounted by PC. I currently have my card formatted with an EXT3 partition, but I'm running a non A2SD rom.
I noticed that ChompSMS now has the standard 'move app to SD' available, but I assumed that doing so would prevent the SMS working if my phone connected to PC for file transfers.
Ta.
Yes ext will stay mounted.
Is there a way to keep security apps such as track and protect or protector on the internal memory? Otherwise they would be easy to disable by just removing the sd card.

[Q] RE: Ext SD CARD

I realised that Galaxy W got 3 layers of memory which is phone storage, USB storage and ext sd card, and I found out that most of the apps are saved in internal storage (USB storage), but it has very limited spaces, so I would like to move all the apps to my ext sd card.
Anyone can guide me that how to do so???

There are 3 storage options on this phone...
ROM aka Device Memory = 1GB = Where apps install to.
Internal SD aka USB Storage = 2GB = Extra space
External SD aka SD Card = upto 32gb microSD card.
So you dont need to use an external SD card until you've used up nearly 3gb of space!
Have you used 3GB already?

There is no installation of apps on the so-called USB Storage/Internal Storage......This is intended for data associated with apps, and storage for stuff like pics/photos/music.
There is built-in App2SD support in all Androids since Froyo, but it is not automatically invoked....you need to go to Settings/Manage Applications.
Look under Downloaded, where all the d/l Apps are listed, and tap on any app you wish to install on your SD Card, your external SD card, this is not internal so-called SD/USB Storage.
Any App that can be moved, will have a Move to SD card option.....those which are not written to enable movement, will be greyed out.
You could also get App2SD from market, which will give you a notification when an App is downloaded that it can be moved, and allows you to do this when you select the notification. It works well......IMHO. I use it and cannot fault it.
There is also another App 2 SD, which does a similar job, but has a Pro paid-for version......reports on Market that it does not support External SD, which is what we have, so avoid....IMHO
Right so still abit confused over this. Before i installed Kerza'a rom onto the phone.
Under the settings and storage and where is shows sd card, usb storage and Device memory.
On sd card it use to show my 8gb card and in the usb storage it use to show the 1.7gb that came on the phone.
After i installed kerza's rom it switched. But no matter what i do my apps still save to the smaller 1.7gb space.
Is there anything that can be done?
This means that KP's ROM switches mount points for SD's, and your Large SD Card is now considered as Internal SD.......
and no Apps can be moved to Internal, by Samsung design, they move to external SD.
arco says this will change with ICS, when and if we get it......
On the good side, your apps are now on probably faster Internal Storage (now mapped as External SD)......and you have more than enough to cater for apps IMHO. And you can probably force move other apps, maybe with Titanium Backup, or other ways, just be careful, some Apps should not be moved, so trial and error.
Even when I used DT's A2SD, on my previous, the biggest sd-sxt I used was 1GB.

Move apps to usb storage

Hi
I swapped my Ace2's memories (external sd card and usb storage).
Now the USB Storage is my sdcard (16GB) and external storage is the original usb storage.
But now, I want to move my apps to USB Storage (my sdcard in real), how to?
thx

how to?
See this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2126363
And How to do for move my apps in my sd card ?
It's impossible with swap. You can use only link2sd
I'll create a partition (ext2, 9GB for apps and games data, 4GB for photos/music/videos) with MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition
Then, how to move apps in the 9GB partition??

So with Link2Sd i choose an app, then I move to partition of 9GB?
And if i partition my sd card in ext2, there will be 2 partitions, isn't it?
Yes but the 2nd partition can be used only with link2sd
Ok, because I swapped my memories and now my sd card is my usb storage, I have to partition my sd card (which is usb storage) in ext2, then I move with link2sd etc..?
Yes I have the memory swap but also the 2nd partition ext2 and it works fine
Ok, I summarize:
I have a 16GB SD Card partitionned in ext2 (one of 9GB, another of 4GB)
I have the memory swap.
So: I'll go in Link2sd, it will ask me about my partitions (I choose ext2), then it will create a link so I could move my apps to the 2nd partition of 9GB?
Yes but to move the app you have to use only link2sd not another app
Yes I know
Thank you very very [............] very much!!!!!

You cannot use the system partition as it's reserved for the OS.Don't mess up with it, doing so may/will brick your phone If you are on Stock or ANY ROM with App2SD support you can move apps to External SD Card. Check whether your ROM supports App2SD or not.

I can't, that's why, app2sd move em' to "sdcard0" which means (in my phone) emulated/0/ (Folder) and not to the external sd card. Already tryied many ways and still same, and well so.
What i wanted to do? as "system" is the internal storage i wanted to merge it with "emulated" which is the internal storage but in a partition to emulate a External SD Card so if its only 1 internal storage the microSD will work as it should work, because on my older phone(Ice mobile apollo touch) I was able to see apps, data, etc, on microsd as only had 1 internal storage.. Now as the sdcard is even in the internal , the external is empty. Its a problem too for cracked applications that need data/obb.

4.2.2 supossed to be stock, downloaded from sammobile to my operator/country as my ROM was literaly "f*ck*d" for a stupid thing i did so.
I just searched GT-i9080L and the latest android(4.2.2) was the one i downloaded, btw, the partition came with the phone, wasn't made by me or a rom and also, the phone didn't come new, i bought it from 2nd hand.
In Grand Internal memory will be shown as sdcard0 and External memory will be shown as sdcard1. Is external storage i.e. Sdcard1 mounting for you?

If i use a explorer i can only see 2. SDCard and internal memory, if i search through internal memory i'll find a folder called emulated, inside, another called 0, inside, all the things that should be on sdcard, which means that this "emulated" emulates a sdcard inside the phone. and yeah, external sd = sdcard1.
internal sd(emulated) = sdcard0
internal memory = internal memory o.o
External is actually /extSdcard on stock ROMs afaik.

I know right, but it isn't used as Sdcard, the sdcard that it uses its a emulated sdcard INSIDE the internal memory.

Some internal / external SD card questions

Hey guys
I have been playing with ROMs, CM, Stock and others on Tab S 10.5 LTE and have some basic RAM questions
1) How is my internal memory (internal SD Card) organised? Does it contain fixed size and type partitions? I know we have "partitions" like "EFS" (do not touch that it contains important phone information), "boot", "cache", "system", "data" etc - are these really pre-made partitions that not even TWRP changes during backup/restore? Or are these simply directories on the internal SD card ?
2) I have noticed that with both Stock ROM and CM 12.1 I am getting a 1GB swap, which resides on the internal memory. Is that something that the Android OS does during install automatically, or do I have a pre-made partition on my internal SD card type linux swap, and that's why no matter what OS I install, it will always be a 1GB swap?
3) if my external SD card has a FAT32 or exFAT partition, what is the general/best method to tell Android/apps to use it for "data", like browser downloads, temporary files, photos, music etc?
4) if my external SD card has a ext3/4 partition, will Android "see" it automatically and start using it somehow? Or will it be dead space until I use some tool (which tool? is it the link2SD ? )
5) Android allows me to move applications to the external SD card natively through Settings/Apps - how does that differ from link2SD?
Many thanks for all your help
All partitions are fixed sizes and shouldn't be messed with.
These partitions are flashed with images from the stock firmware.
To make the sd card default storage you need to do this on a per app basis with each app.
