[Q] charging question??!! - Verizon HTC One (M7)

I have noticed since I had my HTC one way before rooted it always had a stupid charging problem.. Is there any patch, ROM anything that will allow any charger to charge phone at normal speeds? I hate looking for factory charger every time and also slow charge in my truck... Any options out there??

There's custom kernels that you can flash where you can force enable fast charge. This will always have your phone charge fast.

No, so far we have kernels for 4.2.2 ROMs and then one for the EclipticOne 4.4/Sense 5.5 ROM. If I'm missing any, hopefully someone else will chime in.
Here's the thread with the 4.2.2 kernels (4.3 kernel should be coming soon to use with 4.3 ROMs):

That's the one thing I miss most from my s4. I sold it to get the HTC one last week, but I miss the 2 hour charge time. Buuut I love 4.4 too much so no fast charge option for me. Worth it though.

slow charge after flashing cyanogen 7 on droid inc.

I rooted and flashed cyanogen 7 RC2 onto my phone today, keeping the stock kernel. Everything is great except it seems to take longer to charge. This is using a wall charger. Anyone else having this issue with this ROM?
I am also having this issue. It takes a while to charge.

Changing kernels will give you faster charging - I'm favoring invisiblek's latest right now. Another which gives fast charging is Chad0989's.

This worked awesome. I flashed the first kernel you mentioned and my phone was at 40%. 10 minutes later i looked and it is at 56%. Im not complaining at all, but is that charging too fast? What i mean is it going to cause any damage to the battery charging that fast? Just curious. I mean thats faster than when my phone was stock.

Heh, no idea if it's hurting our batteries ...
Lol, I understand. I will just find out sooner or later. Who cares, right now its perfect. I love this build and kernel combo. Any suggestions on setcpu settings?
The stock kernel does well but I've had the best luck with incredikernel every time. Charges the fastest and battery lasts the longest.

[Q]Extremely slow charging

I have had an extremely slow charge rate today. Plugged in for 5+hours and only made +60% charge.
Mostly while phone was off.
When its on i make almost no progress doing only light texting.
Anyone know how to fix this?
Just flashed to latest kernel and ROM .
As shown below.

What were you charging from? Was something perhaps running in the background on your phone that would eat current (i.e. would eat battery life off charger)?

im using cm10.1 stock kernel now, charges fast. when i was using kt kernel there was an option for fast charge in the ktweak settings
I was charging from ac even tried different chargers.
I checked BBS and no i don't think so.
Like i said the gain was nominal even with the phone off
I think it's something with KT's kernel running with tasks ROM that causes this.. I was using the same see setup and had bad battery life and slow charging. I suggest using tasks underwear kernel that came with his rom

So i was just messing with some settings and yeah i think it might be the kernel. I turned on fast charge and it is going noticeably faster. Even though im plugged into ac.
Ill switch to tasks kernel though and see if it improves

My phone's a GNex running the latest CM10.1 nightly and I came across this same issue while searching for a solution. I may have a different phone, but after some people suggested kernel switches, I tried it out. For some reason I was running CM's kernel even though I could have sworn I switched it out due to broken bluetooth. I re-installed lean kernel and bam, fixed. Didn't think it would work because my phone wasn't detecting any charger at all, but as soon as I rebooted with the new kernel, it started charging again.
I am having the same issue!
How do I install a different kernel and where do I find the link to the kernel that worked for you.

[Q]Battery Draining 20% in 15minutes

Hey everyone, I've tried posting this in the battery life thread but I've gotten no help in resolving this issue. This morning I unplugged the phone from the charger(I leave it plugged in overnight) and the phone dropped 20 perecent of the battery in under 15 minutes. At this point the only thing i was doing with the phone was checking a text message I had recieved.
I have optimized my phone so that I it only updates email and many other services manually but regardless a 20 percent drop in 15 minutes is not acceptable. I have calibrated my battery using the battery calibration app which hasn't worked. I have rooted my phone and am currently using the stock bell rom. Additionally, I am also using nova launcher on my phone and that is about it. The only strange thing that I've done to my phone is use a blackberry charger to charge my battery but I don't think this is the issue.
At this point I am beyond frustrated with this device need a solution now or I'll have to take it in to get fixed. Does granting root access void my warrenty? Do I need to unroot before I go to bell. I will post images of my phone stats in the next post.
thank you in advance for your help.

Before you send it in or take it somewhere, download" Better Battery Stats" and see if you can target where the drain is coming from. And yes, you will need to return to stock but before you do you will need to run the triangle away app. That will reduce your flash counter to 0. I'm betting you will be able to find out the problem with Better Battery Stats though. Check your PM's. I sent you something helpful that I didn't wanna post on here.

I don't know what Kernel I'm using but I am using the stock Jellybean rom. I've basically just given myself root access and installed the latest stock firmware. I am using my original charger(plugged into the wall) and last night i left my phone plugged in for over 8 hours so its definitely getting a full charge.
When I was am girlfriends house I used her dads blackberry charger to charge my phone but I don't think that would have wrecked the battery in such a way. I have noticed that the battery seems to draing very rapidly up until about 75% at which point battery consumption returns to normal. I can try charging my phone whilst plugged into my pc if you think that maybe make a difference.

Ok. I gotcha. The charger thing only matters if you use the wrong charger all the time. It doesn't charge it properly. It doesn't do any permanent damage that I know of. I would advise using the Samsung charger whenever possible. Anyways, let your battery drain all the way down to 0 til the phone shuts itself off then charge it all the way back to %100 without taking it off the charger. This should recalibrate your battery. It just got knocked outta wack. It happens sometimes. Let me know if this works. And by the way, you're probably running the stock kernel. You can always get that info by going to settings/about device. Let me know if this helped.

I have a friend who had the same problem, he had to get his phone turned in because his motherboard was malfunctioning.
He ended up getting a full phone replacement and hasn't had the problem since.
If you continue to have this issue I'd definitely get it looked at by your providers retail location.
edit: If you root you will want to avoid tripping the flash counter, which from what I've seen lately is very difficult.
Telus flat out told me in the store that they don't even care if it's rommed and have asked me what I like to use for roms etc which is nice, I don't know if Bell is as lenient.
Best of luck.

The previously mentioned %68 after 5 hours is pretty typical of what I get running stock kernel with ParanoidKANGdroid 1.40. That's while I'm at work, so I'm usually connected to WiFi, on silent, with most of my usage during that time being texting, but I do usually play games on my lunch. I have thought that was a bit excessive drain, so yesterday I set up CPU Editor and set my maximum CPU frequency to 702 MHz. I got pretty close to the same drain.
Today so far, I have the stats uploaded, and that seems much better to me so far.

Thanks for posting this thread, I'm having the exact same problem. It's been an interesting go for me.
Some times it does it and other times it doesn't.
I'm using cyanogenmod nightly from 1.3.13 with the latest ktoonez kernel and I've noticed that today, it's sucking battery more than ever. I'll attach a screenshot, but I think there might be something with the charger as mentioned earlier in the thread. When I charge it at night, I'm charging it off an old blackberry micro usb cable with a generic AC to usb plug.
I'm going to let this thing drain out and die and charge it back up to 100% and see if that works for me.

It definitely helped me. The main advantages that I see with running the kernel that I use is the ability to undervolt & overclock it. This will allow you to run the same frequency that you normally would but at a lower voltage therefore reducing heat & battery consumption. Google it & do some reading & educate yourself on it before you make your decision. I am glad that I decided to do it.

AOKP allows you to change those settings doesn't it? Or only with a custom kernel?

Yes I think AOKP will allow you to change some settings around. It will allow you to set you min/max clock speed & your gov & scheduler. A custom kernel will give you different gov, schedulers, & different min/max speeds. I use Ktoonsez's kernel & it comes packaged with an app called Ktweaker. He advises to use this app to control your kernel settings. I don't think that they will apply properly if you don't. Also you can undervolt with Ktweaker.

Have you done anything to damage your misc partition? Or do you have a backup of your misc partition? USB bricks are very difficult to get past unless you have a back up of your partition. I believe the creator of 4ext recovery madmaxx developed a fix for the desire that could be used through his recovery. The main thing to remember is that your misc partition is specific to your phone. Not your model, your actual phone in your hand and if you flash a misc partition from someone else's phone it will kill it. Unless you have a backup, or some makes a generic misc for your phone model you may be stuck. Have you tried a ruu, and ate you s-on or s-off?

I was mainly talking about that 100-90 drain... but I'm sure that those jumps after reboots are caused by often ROMs flashes... script that is responsible for creating batterystats.bin just goes crazy... or something like that... my N4 is only unlocked and rooted, everything else is stock and I'm not facing such big jumps after reboot... they're not bigger than 3%

The more you discharge it to nearly auto turn off moment and fully charge after, the better it will work. My was a bit "wild" after I had like 5 ROMs changed in one day. Then it setted pretty nice, keeping up to 3-4 days with normal use. No weird drops, also goin 100-90 smoothly for hours not 2 mins

Note 2 slow charging

Hi guys..I bought this phone a couple day ago..And everything was great..He was charging very fast, but this morning i woke up and he was on 15%..And he is charging about 1% in couple minutes..Why? :S
I use search but :S
Samsung´s USB cable die very often. Try another original cable
Are you using the original charger? It's a big battery and needs a powerful charger, at least 2Ah(like the original).

Check with Galaxy Charging. Should be 1600-1800mA average. Lower than that the cable might be faulty.
Use 5-pin micro USB cable, 4-pin often causes problems.
I found 5-pin cable in the house so i will try it..And one more question,i don't wan't to open another thread..
I have 4.1.2 official..I bought this phone couple days ago..And i don't have upgrade to 4.3 :S I saw that there is official 4.4 for Note 2?
You can fix this, not too safe but I use it all the time and works.
You need your phone to be rooted of course,
If you are on TouchWiz ROM, install Nadia kernel (found in original android development section) or AGNi kernel If on aosp
Then download trickster mod for kernel options, go to charging control and enable "ignore unstable power detection" and apply .
This way you should charge at fastest possible.
And yes there is 4.4.2 official ..
if you don't want to root or do any of my things, you need to get better cable/charging place, etc.
