[Q] LG G2 or Nexus 5 - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone.
I'm an xperia arc s owner since 2011.I really love this phone but it is a bit old now.So in the near future I would like to change.
There is many option for a change but if i consider all my needs (and of course money not the least thing) there is to phone.
1. LG G2
Why? -better camera
-More better Battery
-Many customization future without root
Drawback?
-I heard abouth LG's horrible update politics ... ( is it still bad ?) i'm very affraid of this thing.
2. Nexus 5
Why? - Because it is a NEXUS
-Updates......
-Smoothnes is awensome
Drawbacks?
- Im not a developer so i dont need dev phone
-Weaker camera
-Really bad battery
So if you consider the all above pls help me to choose/Say what you think abouth them/give more phone options in the same price.
Thank you for your help in advance !!

First, we are smart at Xperia phones, not LG or Nexus 5.
Second, you are the one, who will use the phone, you have to decide it, which features are important for you, which not. We can't decide things for you. Read the reviews on the internet, comparisons, read people opinions, check xda-developers sections and many other possibilities to find more info.

[Q] Pre-purchase questions!

Hello there dear Desire Z community!
I am thinking of upgrading my htc desire for a deisre z but i am torn between the DZ and galaxy S..So i went ahead and decided to ask a list of factors before i make my purchase (because i am obviously leaning towards the Z)..
1) and most probably most important. How is the battery life (e.g compared to a desire-n1) ?
2)is the screen viewable under direct sunlight? (desire sucked at this)
3)how is it in terms of GPU graphics compared to these devices? : iphone4 ,galaxy s,desire hd?
4)Does it suffer from the same multitouch bug the deisre/n1 do?And if not it can use true multitouch or dual touch?
5)How is the dev support around here? i know CM is also supporting a rom for DZ/G2 ,but are there are others devs doing nice work on the device?
6)Is there anything u miss from this device ?
36 views and no reply?i only asked because these questions can be answered by only someone that has lived with the phone for a while..
It does have proper multi-touch, but I can't answer your other questions, since this is my first Android phone. And I love it

appreciate your feedback sir..enjoy your new handheld!
1) Battery life is amazing, much better than the N1. I can stretch around 18 hours with HEAVY use (mostly texting non-stop )
2) Under direct sunlight the phone does pretty well, just have to crank up the brightness. Remember, this is no S-AMOLED, but still does pretty well.
3) Best GPU I've had so far, Comes pretty close to the Galaxy S.
4) No multi touch problems Tracks 4 fingers independently
5) We have awesome dev support Most notably Enom and Cyanogen himself and the dev support will only increase over time...
6) Coming from a N1, I can say I don't miss anything. The G2 is a proper successor to the N1, better then that crap Samsung Nexus S garbage.
Note: GALAXY S IS COMPLETE GARBAGE. Feels like a cheap plastic toy
I forgot who it was, and what thread. But there is somebody on here that switched from a Galaxy S to the Vision, and he said the Vision was a much better phone. Do some reading on the CPU lag and GPS issues on the Galaxy S to help you decide. Also, being an HTC device, and also since it has the hardware keyboard, the Vision will likely remain a favorite of developers for some time.
In my opinion, the Vision is only the SECOND android phone worth owning. The first being the Dream. N1 wasn't good -- touch screen keyboards are ok for punching in something very SHORT, like a market search term, but anything longer and you're bashing your head against a wall. Faster or not, a lack of a keyboard is DEBILITATING. What can you do with fast if you can't get your data into it. All other keyboard androids suffered from retard issues, like incorrect button alignment and/or being motorola.
Also note that the Vision is the direct successor of the Dream (not the N1). I.e., a vision is kind of like a dream, but more powerful. It has basically the same characteristics of the Dream, but more and faster. The naming is also designed to imply a succession.... Its "vision" as in having a vision of the future, rather than "vision" as in seeing something with your eyes.
Thats great!thanks for the feedback and extra info all of u guys...i guess it turns out the only thing i miss is the better screen part..I think i will enjoy the hw kb!

[Q] Interested in Z1 Compact, few questions remain

Hey guys..
For the first time i am having the opinion that finally a phone has landed in the beloved 4.3" segment which i (among many other fellow thinkers) believe can become my next purchase.
However, i have few questions which i would like others to comment upon:
1) I have always like the UI of Samsung. Currently using a Samsung phone with apex launcher and it is something i am very comfortable with.
Question is: How much close to that UI can i pull a Sony Xperia phone?
2) Can the night photography get better via future OTA updates?
Something like a patch/f.w revision?
3) I like to install good quality case on my phones. Havent seen anything for the z1 till now.
Any news on this dept? I hope the device gets good support from manufacturers like Spigen etc..
4) A bit OT, but somebody pls tell/direct me to ascertain the difference between Android Development Vs Original Android Development ?
Hi,
I don't have Sammy device but I can still answer few of your questions.
1- Sony UI is very nice indeed when I first used it but I use Apex the most as I like to personalised homescreen, icon and drawer.
2-probably YES and there already have new firmware update been approved by Sony for the Z1C. It could be anytime soon and awaiting to see what improvement it does.
http://www.xperiablog.net/2014/02/21/firmware-build-14-2-a-1-142-hits-the-xperia-z1-compact/
3-Already have quite lots of cases around. You could check CASE and SCREEN
4-No idea.

Example here:
If you take source of CyanogenMod, adjust it and build a ROM specifically for Xperia Z1 Compact, it's "Android Development".
But if you create a completely new ROM (or develop a new feature), it's "Original Android Development".

I haven bought z1 compact, but from my usage of XS
If you use a 3rd party launcher, some of the Xperia widget would not be available? This include weather, walkman, photo gallery, notepad, quick toggle widget etc. But, you can always use 3rd party app.

2) From my understanding, using manual mode with proper ISO settings and no flash takes brilliant night photos. I mean, that is generally how you take good night photos with a good camera anyways. While I understand why there is the flash bleed, the flash on a tiny smartphone, let alone a compact point and shoot isn't going to do any good anyways. Unless you have separate lighting, flash ruins anything but a tight portrait shot, and even then, this can mostly be fixed by the simple DIY thread on fixing the bleed.
Short of the Nokia 920 I had, I haven't had a phone that takes particularly good night shots ever. Yeah, some take so-so shots, but nothing has been spectacular, because no other phones have a 3-way OIS (optical image stabilization). 2-way OIS seems somewhat useless.

If you use Apex Launcher, or any 3rd-party launcher, your experience will be VERY similar to that of a Samsung phone with the same launcher.
I myself prefer Themer by MyColorScreen

I sure hope it will, though i prefer slightly darker photos with low ISO noise, but that is all about personal preference. Manual settings can sort it out to some degree.

Z1C is still considered a fairly new device, and where i live people arewaiting in line to get their phone, so as case and accesorymanufacturers see that the device is selling heaps, they will start shipping compatible accessories. I got a dirt cheap wallet-leather folding case-thingy, that i might swap out since I'd like to use the magnetic dock at some point in time.
Bottom line: I have no regrets moving from my S3, and the screensize is perfect. With my S3 i even missed my S1 on some occations because of the one-hand-operating-friendlyness of the latter.
Hope this helps
this is the best device for me. Best battery, design, powerful device

I am using the Case Mate Tough Case which I consider er "good quality case". Unifortunately Case Mate have designed it without access to the Magnetic Charging Port, but as shown in the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2631321&page=4 you can mod the case to take care of this. All in all I am really happy about both my phone and my case although It obviously would have been preferable if Case Mate had made the cutout for the magnetic charging port themselves.
Did it happen to you ?
My phone (Z1C, rooted, locked BL, UK software loaded as described in XDA roooting procedure)
sometimes forgets settings or set them to random values.
Example:
1. Alarm clock returns sound to default.
2. I noticed that I have 3 extra alarms set, completely at random hours.
Questions:
- Did it happen to you ?
- Any idea what could cause it ?
Never happened to me though I don't use the stock alarm, I use Timely Alarm Clock ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ch.bitspin.timely )

First of all since you are new here.. I suggest u go through the xda rules so that u avoid posting in the wrong section..
Now coming to ur question, I was also in the same situation as ure.. but finally I chose N3 Neo over the G2, I love the extra screen estate, S-Pen features and I feel this device has better battery life than the G2..
Coming to G2 you'll get a slightly better processor and the Full HD screen, if these are necessary for u then choose the G2.. it also has pretty good developer support (custom roms & kernels)..
But it all really depends on u and ur preferences.. part of the reason I let go of the G2 is cos I absolutely loathe LG boxy UI! But that's my opinion..
Also the price factor comes into play, G2(32gb) costs 120$ more out here in my country..
And then also comes the secondary things that do matter to me.. Having a SD card slot is a must for me & removable battery is also useful, also I prefer Amoled screens over LCDs!
So think about it buy wisely!

Is G3 a good buy now..?

Hello Guys..This is my first post in G3 forum and I need some advice from u guys.
I have been using Xperia SP for the past 2 years..Now Looking to buy a new handset.
My main requirement is 3GB RAM.I have looked through many phones with 3GB RAM. But my mind is sticking with G3. And my budget is very strict. So,I can't go for G4.
I need to use this mobile for atleast 2 and a half years from now.
The only thing which is nagging my mind is that G3 is already one year old. So will it be able to survive the next 3 years..?
And my next considerations are Xperia Z3 and HTC One E9+.
Should I go with G3 or those above phones?
I had before buying the lg g3 ( sony z2 and samsung s5)
And i have to admit... Both of these phones were faster than my lg g3 in terms of speed and multitasking...
Im running the 5.0 on my g3 and there is some lag here and there...
So i wouldn't recommend getting the g3 ...
Go with the sony z3 my friend ..
Only consider LG if you can think google have stoped developing android.
Right now I would go to OPO, price tag is the same but development and battery life are way better

Thank you all for your valuable replies..
Currently these things are confusing me...
1.LG G3- Already one year old...So it's a doubt that it will be able to survive next 2-3 years..
2.Xperia Z3- Same reason as G3. And I am already using a Xperia SP.Got bored with Xperia's design.
3.HTC One E9+ - My favourite phone within my considerations. But GSMArena review says that Graphics performance is very poor. And GSMArena user's comments are very poor for this phone.
4.OnePlus Two- Ready to wait until it's launch. But really worried about Snapdragon 810's heating issue. Company says heating issues has been solved. But it's not actually solved. They are just hiding the issue by underclocking the processor. They have not actually fixed it.

Is Z5 Premium the right choice for me?

Hi everyone, so last month I decided to switch from iPhone 6 Plus(16GB) to an Android phone. I'm just tired of Apple and iOS, no further comments. To begin I watch lots of movies and some TV shows, I'm thinking about a phone with a big more-than-FHD-resolution screen. As far as I see Z5 Premium is a great choice despite the hardware, and it has a MicroSD slot, which is pretty important for me. On the other hand 6P's screen is better than the iPhone 6 Plus, but not as good as Z5 Premium and has no MicroSD slot; I don't understand why Google hates removable storage... Although the software support for 6P is great, and we all are aware of Sony's software update policy. I am also hyped for the new HTC Nexus, but like I said big screen, high resolution(preferably more than FHD) and microSD(unless 64GB+) are the features I consider until the release of the next gen Nexus phone. So I don't want to wait for nothing. I'm not a phone gamer and hardware doesn't have to be superb. Last thing to add is that I've been doing ISS spotting, and in terms of camera performance, I would like to have a phone with high ISO values, and high MP. I know I want a lot from a smartphone, and Z5 Premium seems to be more suitable for my needs. But the question here is should I wait for the next Nexus Phone, or should I go with Z5 Premium. I would be much appreciated if you post ANY opinions. Lastly I would like to say that the reason why I open this thread to the Z5 forums is that I feel closer to the Z5P. Thank you all and excuse my errors if there's any.
Looks like you've done quite a bit of research on what you want. My question is where those the only fones you considered? See www.gsmarena.com for a whole lot more that might also suit you. Now I have a Z5P and it might be the last Sony fone I get. It is good, but the rate of updates is slow, the route to root is painful but I am enjoying it.

My only concern is the update speed of all Xperia phones. I know there are tons of other solutions, but I think I will stick to either Sony, or Nexus. I LOVE Nexus and I think I will wait and see the 2016 Nexus, if it has a decent camera I will go with it otherwise Z5P...

Sony has proved to be somewhat slow in updating. I've only just got the April security patch level but it is for LL 6.0.1. The Z5P is a very good fone, you'll enjoy it if you get one.

Answering you I like Trying summing up a good nice novel! .. where to start? well let me answer in Bullets, keeping your impressive research in perspective. ( keep in mind i am diehard xperia fan, and current on my 6th Xperia device z5p E6833)
1. Z5P comes with 128GB support for SD card, i have 32gb installed. classtype10 toshiba
2. Sony updates are usually later (than sooner). but i like their ROMS interface. keep it simple and to the point policy
3. Z5p has GREAT sharp HD screen and viewing angles are amazing. you can actually read text even from 30degree angle.
4. but in general ~ The maximum display brightness in Z5 Premium is a little lower when comparing to Z3+, Z5 and Z5 Compact. The maximum display brightness of Z5 Premium is 600cd while it's 700cd in Z3+, Z5 and Z5 Compact. Also the Z5p reduces brightness further when the device temperature rises specially OUTDOORS. (especially summer).
5. z5p has GOOD battery life! compare to other big screen fones, lasts 2 days (1day if 4g browsing with hd movies)
6. z5p are difficult to root (since you are coming from iphone. i would suggest you to please do a bit research about ROOTING android devices (models to models) and android versions to version. ROOTING z5p is one tricky. the question you should ask WHY ROOTING? and based on that criteria consider it one of the third option in your criteria list of 1. screen size 2. hd 3. rooting before buying any device.
7. GOOGLE Android MM has dm-verity (security feature ) which make sure your device is not tampered in terms of software and it does not boot if any one had tried fooling iwth your device (changing boot etc). on TOP of that , sony has SONY-RIC since years which make sure NO one tries to tamper RUNNING ANDROID (rooting/etc) and SONY-RIC shutsoff the device (or reboots) whenever any software tried exploiting system vulnerabilities to gain ROOT ACCESS.
THE BOTH FEATURE COMPBINED in z5p, make device heavy on RAM.
if you like SONY z5p. you should give it a try. also based on your criteria the following two devices you should CONSIDER (at least looking at, or going to mall holding in hands for hands-on experience)
1. Xperia XA performance ( 6.0" screen HD, but batterlife is below average)
2. LG V10

Thanks for your reply! Actually I have an old s5830i, and I have a general knowledge of Android ecosystem. But my intention is not to make the warranty void in the first day. I saw that coming... But I don't think I would need an SD card if 128GB version is cheap. I will wait and see just to make sure about my choice. I hope they are going to release it sooner this year(compared to Nexus 5X and 6P release)
