Make a short list of things you wish the ZL had, in order to make your perfect vision of the ZL. I'm interested to see what people come up with and what is the most common.
Screen a la HTC One, with perfect viewingangles
32GB or 64GB internal storage, very nice when installing large applications / games
Bigger battery so it will come to the level of the HTC One and the Galaxy S IV
Software-options: DPI of the softbuttons, colors of the (notification)bar out of the box
It is perfect as far as I'm concerned.
The only thing I miss is the stock browser which can be installed if rooted.

They only supply Chrome which I'm not enamored with. I feel the android stock browser suits my taste better. I think stock is faster. I'm also more comfortable with it since I have essentially used this since I came over to Android on the Sony Ericsson X10. Also, all my previous devices came with stock browser and some had Chrome as an option. This device only comes loaded with Chrome.

Stock Android browser FTW instead or next to Chrome! DPI settings of the softbuttons, color of the softbuttons that you can change...
Having used the stock browser for a week, I think its not so great after all! Facebook images appear blurred (cramped in size), no full access to many websites like official sony support (can't login). No such issues with chrome, plus multi tab handling is best, but I miss the flash support, fullscreen & quick controls (of the stock browser) on chrome. Perhaps no browser is complete, so, I have to use both!
All that said, I would like sony to improve its camera software (mainly the image post processing) so as to have better quality (especially during day). I believe the camera sensor used (in Z/ZL) is top notch at the moment, but its performance limited by sony's software implementation (too much noise blur). Oh, n btw, the screen is stunning imo (best I've used so far) :good:!
Thanks for the replies everyone, this is very interesting and it helps me decide what I would want to work on for a ROM.
Guys I think Sony should make A new phone with the same Specs of Xperia Zl,
just as like HTC made their "htc one x" but Due to some issues like Fast battery draining and some other, Company made "htc onex+" with same Specs but adding more Battery(1850 to 2100mAh) and with more Storage.
So actually try to understand my point which is that Sony should Try to make Xperia ZLi or ZL+ and try to renew their Curent Xperia ZL stock by putting IPS LCD screen, removeeable battery cover like Xperia TX(Although battery cover is not a such issue) and putting Slightly more power to battery at least 2500mAh,
May be in this circumstances Sony recover their Loss which they Bear since Xperia TX................
we all see the S4 have almost same size of S3 but they ported amazingly 2100mAh to 2600mAh battery and also the weight is less than that of S3.By the way I'm Not Fanboy of Samsung....
Xperia having 2370mAh battery but its 9.8mm and S4 having 7.9mm slightly more bezel but more battery.
Its the Basically point to be noted why Samsung put more battery by just little difference of bezel size.
Xperia ZL is no doubt A good Smartphone but its resale value is equal to nothing, that's why ppl hesitating to purchase it,otherwise design is very impressive but screen really A bad factor for Zl,
Anyway I like the Xperia ZL but Sony should now learn A lesson at least..............

Sure, here you go (zip attached)! Just unzip & copy paste the two apk files to system/app & set permissions to rw- r-- r-- (but first, delete the chrome.apk & BrowserProviderProxy.apk). You can find all the info about it here.
No regrets! I love it. Amazing screen, awesome camera, nice design, and tons of extras on the software end. I am definitely glad I went with the Xperia ZL!
The story is, I was torn between the HTC One and the Samsung S4. I could not decide. Then I happened to be on the Sony website because I had a $250 gift card for the sony online store. I happened to stumble across the Sony Xperia Z and ZL. I liked everything about it, and the more I thought about it I realized how much more unique it would be to own one. Everyone and their brother is running around with an HTC One and S4 right now. So I went for it. The phone was marked down from $759 to $569, I received 10% off for student discount, minus $250 from the gift card, and I got the sales rep to give me free next day shipping. So all said and done I only paid around $275.00, compared to $600 for an HTC One, and $700 for an S4.
(I was looking for an unlocked phone only so that I could utilize a pre-paid service that runs on AT&T for only $45.00 a month. Save big time in the long run)
So any tips and tricks for the Xperia ZL I should know about? I have model number C6506.
Only con I have about the device, is the battery life. It doesn't seem the best, but I also understand that it has a 5" screen, so what does one expect?

Nice choice i really like more SONY than SAMSUNG and HTC, this is a really amazing phone its the only phone on the market with 75% screen and the rest bessel. i recomend you to update by OTA to the latest version 4.2.2 , camera improve, sound improve, transparent navigation bar and notification. for the battery use Stamina mode and only mark the really important apps you use. for example i have whatsapp, facebook msn, and gmail. remember that all sony devices have a preinstaled screen protector. i recomend not to take it off. and dont scare if you see a scratch on it ( its a protector the real screen is under ). BTW wich color you bought?

After you update the phone to 4.2.2, I recommend a factory reset. For some reason, it helps.
Im sorry to ask another question but is better than creating another thread I'm going to the US in a month or so and I wanna know something about the price of the phone, everywhere I read the ZL is ~570$ and up. On Amazon the XZL is 514$+tax (I think its 7% on NJ right?) So if I buy the phone from amazon its about 560$ right? Is there another website that I can check to buy the phone? Thanks!

Torn between this baby and the Z
I'm getting a bit of cash soon and decided it's time for an upgrade (My Ion keeps getting grabbed by my kids so i'm left without a phone, besides it will make for a grat media center with my dock), I'm torn between the Z and ZL. so far i've made a list of pro's and cons:
ZL:
pros
-cheaper! (I can get it for less than $500 dollars on amazon, even seen some great deals on it)
-size(it's a bit bigger than the ion but not by much compared to the Z)
-proper camera button( Never understood why android makers never put camera buttons on their phones, its what i missed the most from my N8)
Screen/Bezel ratio(Big screen, small bezel. need i say more?)
cons
-No waterproofing(not a deal breaker but would be nice to have)
-"Limited" dev support(i like to flash custom roms. If i cant find em guess it would be time to learn how to port.
Z
Pros
-Flagship(gets all the attention)
-waterproof
-eye catching design(not that the ZL is ugly, but the glass gives the Z a premium look)
Cons
no camera button
Expensive
Glass tends to pop up and separate from the phone(apparently a design flaw, it's being discussed on the Z forums)
flaps get worn over time and loose waterproofing.
So, ZL users, should i go for it? I dont mind that it has s4pro chipset(same architecture as S600 but underclocked a bit so it's no slouch). WOuld like to hear your thoughts.
I have both currently, and will be returning the Z.
Unless you plan to go underweater with the Z and take pictures, then really that feature is not so great. And having to open/close the flaps constantly is annoying.
You will not regret the ZL, AND when you do buy it, DO NOT LET THE SOFTWARE UPDATE. 4.2 sucks.

I am been happy with the ZL, I can upload files from the web browser and i never was able to do it in the Apple iPhone 4s, i sold it and bought this phone. The only thing I would like Sony to modify in future Xperia products is to switch the speakers and put it on the side or front. It is annoying to have a call and use the speaker when this is in the back, you have to basically turn the phone the other way to hear clearly. If you want to multitask while talking it is painful.

Honestly, I have never been happier than with this phone. My Nexi was great while it lasted, never liked the back being glass. The ZL has everything the 4 had, but just better. Do yourself a favor, and even though the Sony skin is not too cumbersome, just do a custom ROM. You'll enjoy it much more. Sony has made the process of unlocking and flashing almost as painless as possible. I absolutely LOVE the skinny bezel around it. I am happier with this device than I had been with any other.
wonderful, I also wnna one, but it's expensive in my country.
Hi, I have the HTC One Developers Edition on AT&T in the US. I love it but camera is bad.
Question: can the bootloader be unlocked on the ZL?
Does it work on AT&T LTE radios in US? Anyone have any other advise on comparing the ZL to the One?
I sincerely appreciate the help.

Yes, but you need to buy a version of the ZL that has an unlockable bootloader. The SIM unlocked version that Sony, Amazon and most retailers sell can have the bootloader unlocked. For AT&T you need the C6506 (this is the model made for the US and has both AT&T and T-Mobile HSPA and LTE frequencies). The C6503 will only give you HSPA on AT&T so I would avoid it.
I don't like that the One has permanent buttons. The new Google model (from the Nexus 4) is to have the buttons on screen so they can disappear when you don't need them, like with full screen video. Other than that, the ZL has some decent support for AOSP ROMs. Cyanogenmod 10.2 (Jellybean 4.3) is available for the ZL and it runs pretty well. It's still a work in progress but luckily the Xperia Z and the ZL share similar internals so as long as there is CM for the Z, the ZL will have it.
The stock Timescape Sony ROM is decent, and 4.3 will surely come soon, but I feel the Sony ROM is slow. There is pure AOSP available for the ZL but it doesn't include radio support along with other proprietary drivers, so it won't work as a daily ROM, but CM is very close to AOSP.

Been a long time apple user ..since the original iphone in 2007. had every version of it. Got bored of ios and switched to Galaxy s3 last year and been quite happy so far. Last week i traded the S3 for Sony Xperia ZL..and man..i love this hardware and the version of android..
The sony launcher is by far the best one i've seen compared to the touchwiz and others..I used to have so many launchers and widgets on my S3 whereas i have no launchers and widgets on ZL.. The built in has all the features i need,,
Got the iphone 5S for the wife..but the display on ZL is quite something..camera is great. Battery life is reasonable (compared to my old S3) and the standard android customization is very handy..
Don't think i'll ever go back to ios or other android devices for a while.
I like the Xperia ZL. But this phone has many problems. First it lost the signal. It has some lag. And now overheat. Tomorrow who know? I can affirm that I would like other phone.

BTW I dont like custom roms so im full stuck on 4.2.2 ,67 , as far as i know most of the people that face does issues are using roms...and i keep sayin Custom roms SUCK, just stick with official and dont screw your phone.:good:

i agree - i love the stock rom as well. I'm with bell in canada. My android version says 4.2.2 build number is 10.3.A.0.423
No updates according to update centre..is the latest .67 udpate not available to bell customers?
Generalities tend to be tough to back up.
As to your question about an upgrade - you should be able to install the "stock" generic 67 rom for your phone via flashtool, and have it work properly on Bell as what's important are the radio frequencies the phone supports. (and you "should" be able to flash it without wiping your data...

I have no idea why it wouldn't be available via OTA.
As far as how to flash... search under the development forum for the ZL for Flashtool. There's also a thread that shows all of the different "rom" versions... I'd look there as well...
I am also super lucky with my ZL. Latest stock firmware and it is my first Android phone, where I don't feel the need for having root access...
I am debating whether i should return my SP and get a ZL. Normally I don't like five inch phones but the ZL is so compact that it wouldn't bother me. I am having a hell of a time deciding. Good thing I have till the end of January. What do you guys think?

Do it. The SP is a nice phone, but the ZL is leagues better in every way. You wont believe how small it really is until you hold it.
Even though my beloved C6503 is away receiving RMA Support.
Leading me to purchase a C5303 as back-up in the meantime.
I can still thoroughly recommend the ZL over the SP.
If you watch a lot of videos, browse the internet heavily, likewise use messaging heavily, then you'll love the extra real estate, and increased sharpness, that comes with the 5", Full HD, ultra compact ZL.
Not to mention the ZL's noticeable increase in both performance, and internal storage.
The advantage of 5" 1080p over 4.6" 720p may read like hype.
But as you'll find out for yourself, once you've tried it you won't go back.
Especially in such compact form, with higher grade, build quality you'd expect in Sony's early 2013 top tier, that is found in the ZL.
Plus you still get a large, but more stylised notification light.
The only cons I find with the ZL is it does generate a lot of heat when worked hard.
More than the SP.
But then that's understandable considering what's under their respective hoods (Z runs hotter still being front/rear glass?!)
So I wouldn't recommend using a case with it.
The other con is the ZL is not as efficient as SP.
This is reflected in their respective Endurance Test ratings at GSM Arena, and sums up nicely my experience with them both.
Finally, I would only recommend buying a used ZL with at least a six month warranty, or preferably brand new with a twelve month warranty.
As I am not alone in my ZL suffering from SOD/Sleep Of Death late last year.
Other than that I eagerly await the return of my C6503 from RMA Support later this month.
To which I'll be gifting my C5303 to my Mum (Love you Mum!)
Look forward to your impression of ZL over the SP should you make the leap.

I've had the ZL for about a week now and I am pretty impressed with it. The size of the phone considering the screen size is amazing. It is a solid feeling phone and the red one I bought looks great. The battery life isn't too great compared to SP but that is to be expected. I downclocked it a bit so it does better and doesnt get as hot. The screen is miles better than the SP and the extra internal memory is nice. I did like the fact that the SP didn't have the stupid shatterproof sheet on it and it was advertised as gorilla glass. I also wish the IR blaster was on the top so I could hold it like a remote. I would have taken having the charging pins instead of the IR blaster. Still it is a good phone and probably the best designed five inch phone ever. I would have waited and gotten the Z1 compact but it's just too small for me now. 4.6 is perfect but 5 inch is great if the size is that of the ZL.
The vibration on the ZL is really weird compared to the SP. Its very strong, not sure if that is bad or good. The camera is soooo much better though.
Glad to read you are enjoying ZL.
Having sent mine in for RMA Support last month.
And since, been using first C6603, followed by now C5303.
Its highlighted to me just how superior the ZL is to these two more popular and widely available models.
IMHO Sony made a major mistake not to release the ZL in the same markets globally as Z.
As for the ZL's very strong vibration.
Yes, it is far stronger than both Z and SP.
That's been my experience too.
I don't doubt you are also enjoying the ZL's far superior outdoor visibility too.
As the Z, and the SP, displays are really mediocre by comparison when used outdoors in daylight.
I sure do miss ZL's superior loudspeaker performance too.
Particularly when using Navigation incar, or hearing it ring when you are in noisy environments.
So looking forward to the return of my ZL.
And seeing if Sony will release a true successor to the compact, limited market release, ZL.

I'm not a pro user and i compared m9 fluidity to nexus 5 and newer google phones, they are obviously smoother than any other high end android phones. Is there a particular reason or setting or mod to make m9 so?
Sent from my HTC One M9 using Tapatalk
Sense sucks - thats the reason. I have no idea why but HTC gets rid of many preety little animations that are in stock and to make things even worse their own animations stright sucks. They start a good haf or more second after touch and then they are trying to "catch up".
There is only one solution for that and its obviously flashing AOSP like rom, personally I like CM12.1 the best for now ( You can find stable build in camera bounty thread). Then to make things even better i recomend nova launcher prime with animations set up to 'circle' it gives smooth, and INSTANT animations that make experience so much better.
I also have a feeling that forcing GPU rendering under developer settings makes everything a bit smoother.
Sense or aosp roms dont seem to be very fluid on the m9 for some reason. No overheating on my exchanged unit but it is disapointing. I have until tomorrow to turn my m9 back in to tmobile, 14 day refund. Im considering it but theres no other device they offer id want.
Then why did you guys go for the M9? Certainly, nexus devices are more fluid for the obvious reasons... But for me among other oems that offer android,t sense is by far the best... I did go for the M9 for the very reason that no nexus device is comparable to the features of the m9... Nexus devices always lack a thing or two... But yes, if one wants the best experience of Android, they should go for a nexus...

Sounds like an opinion more than a fact.
If this is how you feel then why did you buy a HTC device? I have to say, in terms of pace and reliability Sense is definitely one of the quickest UI's you are likely to see, Touch Wiz, LG's own, Sony's own, MIUI, Huawei's thing, none are as quick as sense.
However......
If you like the M9 but want animations, go to my thread and install xposed and XUI and Screen Off Animation then you can have all the animations you want.
The battery implications, believe it or not are minimal and certainly in line with other devices, including the Nexus (even with xposed installed) it'll be the apps you have which have a stronger bearing on your battery usage than xposed.

Either we have very different phones or i don't know what, sense is rapid, never slows down unless it's being woken from a long time asleep (low cpu levels when off for a long time)
It's fluid constantly, i have no lag and no overheating at all.
@dladz
It's a fact unfortunately. Many people cannot distinguish smoothness from snappyness IMHO.
Sense roms are snapy, but lets admit.. they are not fluid while pure android phones ( thinking about nexuses) are both, snapy and fluid.
Where sense gets it wrong? Well in many places. For example.. Turning lighter on ( from quick settings) in stock android have very nice animation, same for airplane mode, localization, screen rotation and so on, while on sense roms You have none of these.
Want to check your data usage? In stock android You can do it from quicksettings and You will be pleased with nice, instant animation, on sense You can find it deep under phone settings.
Opening recents from home screen? There is always small lag/a few dropped frames on sense, do the same thing from an app and vuala, no delay. On stock its all smooth and flawless.
Then worst part that luckily is dependable on launcher.. App opening animation. On stock android You will see close to instant animation after taping on app icon, ( for the most part...) then, on sense You will tap, wait a bit and then see very fast animation = snappines is there but smoothness, well not so much.
I bought M9 with hope that it will recive a good third party support like m8 did and I thought that sense is not that bad ( but as You already said, everything is bad after using stock nexus software)
I had nexus 5 before M9 and I wanted to keep it for one more year because all flagships from this year were dissapointing for me but it died. ( broken screen. tough I finally repaired it myself.) M9 seemed like best option as samsung is samsung and I cant stand their software and z3+ was over $350 more expensive than One.
Personaly I was really dissapointed with htc software and phone in general but after switching to stable CM12.1 I'm happy once again.
And BTW xperia UI and also motorolla UI is way closer to stock android than one M9, in my opinion those two are also better looking ones.
I'm waiting for cm13 and marshmallow to see if our phone will get some optimization from nexus 6p because it has same hardware
if will be disappointing (even if this phone is pretty satisfying as it is) I will consider to change phone

First and foremost you're giving me your opinion, nothing more.
Stock android gives you the minimum. If that's what you want then fair enough, go for it.
Grab yourself a nexus.
This is a htc device. And FYI I am well aware of the difference between snappy and fluid, you implicated that I don't.
My phone is as fluid as any.
Please see this video showcasing some animations and UI (old ish video)

If this isn't what you want then you bought the wrong phone. Complaining about it won't change a damn thing.
Your opinion does not spell fact, it is simply your opinion. That is a fact.
So i would say, either enjoy the phone or buy another.. Just stop complaining about it, there's nothing that can be gained from it.
Also, sonys Ui is a disgrace, it's large and clunky. Over baring and just nowhere near as functional as it should be, plus it's several times larger than stock android,? Not sure where you got your info from mate.
Motorola is stock android mate, it's owned by google, or was at least. So no surprise there.

It sounds like your posts are also full of opinions.
People buy phones for varying reasons. Just because someone is pointing out shortfalls of a device doesn't mean he/she doesn't want to own said device. Telling someone to "go grab yourself a nexus" just weakens your argument.
Similar to the users who posted in this thread, I also notice some lag in some cases, e.g., when opening "recents" on the M9, which was never the case on, say, the Nexus 6. However, I was fully expecting to experience lag on the M9 coming from the Nexus 6. I choose the M9, for other reasons, i.e., I was looking for a 5" device with front facing stereo speakers. That limits my choices greatly, so I have had to compromise. Does the fact that I currently own an M9 mean that I can't point out it's weaknesses? Absolutely not. (And pointing out weaknesses is not necessarily complaining.) When I owned the Nexus 6, I certainly pointed out it's weaknesses (and strengths), as I did with previous devices I've owned.
I also noticed that you were not using stock Sense in the video you posted. Would you say stock Sense is as fluid as the ROM you were using? I would say a more fair comparison would be stock Nexus 6 vs stock M9, no?
And yes, you are correct, complaining about a phone isn't going to make it better. But then again, being a fan boy won't get rid of shortcomings either.
Either way, the M9 is certainly a nice device. Is it perfect? No. But no device is. Everyone compromises based on what is important to him/her.
And by the way, Motorola devices do NOT use stock Android. That is a fact.
Coming from a Nexus 4, I'm not seeing much difference in fluidness and smoothness. The M9 is right there with the Nexus 4. When the Nexus 5 came out, I did look into it, but the majority of reviews I read didn't see it as a big jump from the 4. Maybe the Nexus 6 is a bigger improvement. I didn't go for the 6 because I don't want a screen that dang big. My wife likes the Samsung Notes, so I am familiar with Touchwiz and will state that Sense is leaps and bounds smoother and more fluid than it. Currently, I do have two Moto Gs in the household and as far as I can tell they are stock Android.
@dladz
First and foremost, read carefully. I'm not just giving You my opinion, I've pointed out where sense isn't smooth while stock is - its not an opinion its fact, I could even make video just to proof that. ( although there are already tons of videos about stock android transitions/animations that sense lacks btw.)

About Your video and Your animations pack.. Well I know those animations for years now I was using some of them a few years ago on xperia p and I thought they were cool but i don't think they are anymore as they mostly don't make sense, and also they dont fit with material design philosophy and guidelines. Then again You are not using stock sense and although Your phone is smooth for the most part - You were showcasing parts of software that are usualy smoooth on most android phones.. I don't get why so many android guys (ios guys as well) cannot admit that android/their phone isn't perfect. There is a lot to be improved and personally I dont know why I should stay quiet and do nothing about it.
Maybe I'll make a video with nexus 5 running stock marshmallow, and one M9 running both, CM and sense, just to prove that its not M9 hardware that makes phone not so smooth but its own sofrware. ( looking at You sense)
BTW. Have You tried CM 12.1 build from camera bounty thread or have You ever used nexus as Your daily driver? (dladz?)
As for the OP @iprong
You can try flashing this bouild from rashed -http://downloads.hostingsharedbox.com/rashed/m9/himaul/ ( fully functional CM12.1, the latest one is the one You should go with.)
And If You like sense apps then just look for them on xda, I'm sure someone ported them for AOSP based roms.

??? It's not stock android??? Oh ? It certainly looks like it to me, maybe a few additional addons yea but it's got the launcher, the settings, the lack of any additional UI ? Fact !
As for my opinion, it's based on what i see and feel so yea you're right it's my opinion, however what i'm saying is that the HTC is not a slow phone, it doesn't lag and if you watched my video you'd know that, if your phones lagging then you're obviously doing something wrong, you probably have apps dragging your phone down or it's not been optimised as mine has, as my phone simply does not lag.
And no it wasn't stock sense, it was Leedroid, it had xposed and 2 extra mods making animations, it was also not the most up to date version of android either, it was just a video i made to showcase some mods.
I haven't mentioned stock sense, not once, I am literally speaking from my experience as an experienced modder and user of custom roms, of course it's not stock, why would anyone buy a HTC device and then not mod it? It's ludicrous as their OS without modification is pants and has been for a long time, this is at the end of the day XDA developers, we mod phones, this is why we're here, if you're running total stock then i have no idea why you've come to XDA in the first place as you would be like a fish amongst land mammals.
Stock nexus 6 vs a stock htc device? I have no idea, truthfully, the nexus as it's lighter will probably be a quicker device so in that case i concur it would be, but as i've said, i'm not talking about a stock experience i'm talking about HTC vs ????? whatever, the way i have my phone set up is by far and away a quicker and more fluid phone than anything i've ever used, even my old S3 with Foxhounds rom would be quicker and more fluid than a nexus or even the next nexus, perhaps not but it gives you an indication of whats possible, I'm also more than happy to help people if they need it, if they want to make their phone as mine is or mimmick one of my set ups.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4BJhIqPmJ0
My old s3, this phone flew, without modification this phone was awful, but, thanks to the dev's on XDA namely @raffaele88 it was made possible.
In regards to me being a fan boy, may i remind you that this is the HTC section of XDA developers, this is a place for people who love the HTC device, what did you expect to find within this location?
Being beyond presumptuous and blind to obviousness what is your point here? I fail to see it, if you've got a HTC device wouldn't that make you a fan boy too? If we aren't all fanboys here then something has gone very wrong for those people and they've bought the wrong device.
The primary reason why i have a soft spot for HTC devices and yes perhaps a little bit of a biased opinion is because HTC gave me my first android device and probably spawned the beginning of the android life with superb phones such as the Hero, Desire, Nexus One and the G1, lest we forget, without them we really wouldn't have the choices we have today, I guess some people don't feel as nostalgic as I do or as grateful when buying a device.
Lastly, the recents tab, again, i do not have any sort of lag whilst using my device, it's not lagging it's not jumping or "Snappy" it's just a quick phone, the same as every other device is once i've modded it and got it the way i like it, if you don't mod your phone then that's your journey, but if you make a claim that a device is not fluid or quick or anything else and you make that assumption in a place where people have just that then you really should expect those people to tell you that you're wrong, which is simply what i've done
EDIT: @toster jp if you're going to go on like that, i'll just tell you to see what i wrote above too.
If you're having these problems then you either don't know what you're doing or you're being beyond nitpicky.
Either way you're wrong.
And as for a stock experience, i was one of the original pledgers who has paid their amount even though i dont use stock no more.

Your last comment is such a mess. It also proves nothing and have no much sens to be honest. Your phone don't lag? Great - it doesn't mean that Your phone is fluid, and thats the point. You are just admitting that snapinnes equals to smoothnes for You. ( With animations turned out Your phone won't lag either is it smoooth now? )
Motorola is using modified stock, = its no longer stock android, its simple as that. And if You cannot see a difference betwen them then well, its just a good sign that You weren't using stock android much..
Also - details makes a difference. Details are part of user experience that You don't care much from what I can see.

XDA is not necesarly place for people who love HTC,( even in htc thread ) and no, owning HTC device doesn't make anybody a fanboy.
Thread cleaned and closed. Cursing and personal attacks are not allowed on the forums. We should be able to have a civilized non-emotional discussion.
Hi everyone, so last month I decided to switch from iPhone 6 Plus(16GB) to an Android phone. I'm just tired of Apple and iOS, no further comments. To begin I watch lots of movies and some TV shows, I'm thinking about a phone with a big more-than-FHD-resolution screen. As far as I see Z5 Premium is a great choice despite the hardware, and it has a MicroSD slot, which is pretty important for me. On the other hand 6P's screen is better than the iPhone 6 Plus, but not as good as Z5 Premium and has no MicroSD slot; I don't understand why Google hates removable storage... Although the software support for 6P is great, and we all are aware of Sony's software update policy. I am also hyped for the new HTC Nexus, but like I said big screen, high resolution(preferably more than FHD) and microSD(unless 64GB+) are the features I consider until the release of the next gen Nexus phone. So I don't want to wait for nothing. I'm not a phone gamer and hardware doesn't have to be superb. Last thing to add is that I've been doing ISS spotting, and in terms of camera performance, I would like to have a phone with high ISO values, and high MP. I know I want a lot from a smartphone, and Z5 Premium seems to be more suitable for my needs. But the question here is should I wait for the next Nexus Phone, or should I go with Z5 Premium. I would be much appreciated if you post ANY opinions. Lastly I would like to say that the reason why I open this thread to the Z5 forums is that I feel closer to the Z5P. Thank you all and excuse my errors if there's any.
Looks like you've done quite a bit of research on what you want. My question is where those the only fones you considered? See www.gsmarena.com for a whole lot more that might also suit you. Now I have a Z5P and it might be the last Sony fone I get. It is good, but the rate of updates is slow, the route to root is painful but I am enjoying it.

My only concern is the update speed of all Xperia phones. I know there are tons of other solutions, but I think I will stick to either Sony, or Nexus. I LOVE Nexus and I think I will wait and see the 2016 Nexus, if it has a decent camera I will go with it otherwise Z5P...

Sony has proved to be somewhat slow in updating. I've only just got the April security patch level but it is for LL 6.0.1. The Z5P is a very good fone, you'll enjoy it if you get one.

Answering you I like Trying summing up a good nice novel! .. where to start? well let me answer in Bullets, keeping your impressive research in perspective. ( keep in mind i am diehard xperia fan, and current on my 6th Xperia device z5p E6833)
1. Z5P comes with 128GB support for SD card, i have 32gb installed. classtype10 toshiba
2. Sony updates are usually later (than sooner). but i like their ROMS interface. keep it simple and to the point policy
3. Z5p has GREAT sharp HD screen and viewing angles are amazing. you can actually read text even from 30degree angle.
4. but in general ~ The maximum display brightness in Z5 Premium is a little lower when comparing to Z3+, Z5 and Z5 Compact. The maximum display brightness of Z5 Premium is 600cd while it's 700cd in Z3+, Z5 and Z5 Compact. Also the Z5p reduces brightness further when the device temperature rises specially OUTDOORS. (especially summer).
5. z5p has GOOD battery life! compare to other big screen fones, lasts 2 days (1day if 4g browsing with hd movies)
6. z5p are difficult to root (since you are coming from iphone. i would suggest you to please do a bit research about ROOTING android devices (models to models) and android versions to version. ROOTING z5p is one tricky. the question you should ask WHY ROOTING? and based on that criteria consider it one of the third option in your criteria list of 1. screen size 2. hd 3. rooting before buying any device.
7. GOOGLE Android MM has dm-verity (security feature ) which make sure your device is not tampered in terms of software and it does not boot if any one had tried fooling iwth your device (changing boot etc). on TOP of that , sony has SONY-RIC since years which make sure NO one tries to tamper RUNNING ANDROID (rooting/etc) and SONY-RIC shutsoff the device (or reboots) whenever any software tried exploiting system vulnerabilities to gain ROOT ACCESS.
THE BOTH FEATURE COMPBINED in z5p, make device heavy on RAM.
if you like SONY z5p. you should give it a try. also based on your criteria the following two devices you should CONSIDER (at least looking at, or going to mall holding in hands for hands-on experience)
1. Xperia XA performance ( 6.0" screen HD, but batterlife is below average)
2. LG V10

Thanks for your reply! Actually I have an old s5830i, and I have a general knowledge of Android ecosystem. But my intention is not to make the warranty void in the first day. I know Z5p has a very good screen, and the market is full of similar devices right now. But I think I will be waiting for this years Nexus release, and decide considering those phones.

I saw that coming... But I don't think I would need an SD card if 128GB version is cheap. I will wait and see just to make sure about my choice. I hope they are going to release it sooner this year(compared to Nexus 5X and 6P release)

I'm not trying to throw a spanner in your works but Nexus has been getting more expensive with the new iterations. I see you're going to wait. That's good. Enjoy whichever device you do end up with.
