Like in nexus 10 or paranoid android rom. Status bar with nav bar in one place. For stock 4,4 or cm 19,2 stable. Thx!
As of now there is no way to get tablet ui on kitkat. Google apparently removed the code. In previous versions the tablet ui was still there just not being used.

What about cyanmod 10.2 based on 4.3?
Even the new 4.2 for nexus 10 doesnt have tablet ui anymore
Apex launcher, and no doubt Nova, allow you to combine the Nav/notification bar for a slightly tabified ui. They also allow other config options like being able to disable the dock and/or the notification bar for a full screen display.
You could look into Xposed modules for changing DPI, but I have no idea how those work with kitkat.

Sorry, I forgot that setting in Apex only disables the dock and puts a persistent search bar at the top. Not very tablified.
Since I accidentially updated to a newer CM10.2 I miss my TabletUI and even more since I saw the new ipad mini retina this weekend. I would do it on my own, but I don't know how.
Please somebody who did it in the past post an TabletUI update for the stable CM10.2 or give me some hints how to make this patch on my own.

Just would have include all the the code google removed.
But the best would be to bid farewell to this relict of the past.
(Tablet UI is now dead for more than 2 years so let it rest in peace.)

Ok, I understand. But I don't want to give up! Why should I buy a tablet with super high resolution and then waste the space with useless notification bars? I made a tabletUI Update for the stable CM10.2 for DEB: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48538860&postcount=104
We will see what the next Android Update brings...
You know that Android 4.4. introduced the immersive mode.
Developer just need to use it in their apps.

Okay, this is going to sound so stupid. Is there anyway to get the UI and launcher from 1.6 on our Nexus 4's? I just personally love the look. Is it possible?

check out the retro ui theme in the general themes section. you will need to be running a rom that supports themes...like CM10.1 or PA.
Have you tried this one? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17319469#post17319469
Probably won't worth but worth a try.
There was a CM10 theme, not sure if it'll work. You could edit the grey app drawer dock/icon onto a wallpaper and use a upwards gesture from the bottom of the screen to launch the app drawer which is set to vertical.

Just tried them and it wasn't pretty, the notification bar icons were misaligned, and the notification draw was the standard black one from 4.2, such a shame.
bump, anyone know of any better themes?

That ui was made for hvga/wvga or something around that range, upscaling those graphics to 720p is just asking for trouble. Someone would need to actually recreate everything from donut.

Or you could use a custom launcher and set more rows and columns. I use Nova now and have a 8 rows x 6 columns screen.

That is not my concern. I would like to see more of webpages, and generally everything... it's like 480p vs 1080p in the TV world. DPI changes the 'density' of the screen across the whole OS.

Balls.
Normally true but when not on tw roms I've used the following app consistently with no issues. It provides an in-app process that mods the play store apk. Besides, you can always change dpi to stock and get whatever apps you want and revert your dpi. But hey, let's keep giving people half the story.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction I appreciate it. I found this to be a better solution that I counted on.
In case anyone is interested in getting more out of their S3's TW display check out this post and download the zip with 2 apks and install them. Learn more about how this mod works here. The neat thing about this is approach is that it works similarly to how PA roms work. Basically, each app can be individually set with whatever DPI you want on the fly with no need to reboot in order to see changes. I tweaked DPI settings for Nova launcher, Gmail, Web browsers to start and it works on 747z rom for me ATM. I even set the SytemUI.apk to 280. This has a bug that that causes a thin bar under the notification bar to appear; it doesn't bother me though as the tradeoff for more notifications in the pull down is a plus for me. What's nice is you can tailor each apps display however you wish instead of picking one value for the whole OS!
To top it all off, you can leave Play store alone and download apps till tomorrow morning
Does anyone know how or where we could find smaller Nav bars for stock rooted Roms? I like the stock buttons..just, IMO the nav bar is huge

You can also just use a rom that support changing of the nav bar size. I currently use AOKP and in the settings I'm able to adjust how tall/wide my nav bar is.

Yup...As much as I'd like to use CM 10.1 I won't just because that option isn't there.
I mean isn't anyone bothered by how big and a space waster the default navbar size is (goes foe stock, ofc) ?

Could be... And didn't think of that!
I set it to 30 of the value offered (dpi?), or PA's tablet mode in 192 dpi which is of course too small. But I really can't accept the wasted room in my case, but good point you are making.
You can simply hide the whole bar using a one line build.prop edit, and use LMT (similar as The Pie) to emulate the hidden buttons (and much more). I did.
See?
Are there any devs or someone smarter than me, that could theme the top notification bar and bottom navigation bar to be semi transparent/fully transparent like how it is on the homescreen w kitkat, so when im in an app it could still be transparent instead of big black bars?
I'm a newb when it comes to editing ui files etc, thanks for the help.

I think when you update to 4.4.2 Google gave all the devices the transparency on both the nav bar and notification bar. Its even on the lockscreen too. If you open up some app they take advantage of it. Some apps don't such as fb. I think its up to the developers to update their apps. So I'm not convinced you need to modify your frameworks or anything like that its all enabled bone stock =]

yeah im just wondering, if its possible to modify the files to make it to where even if an app hasn't, the black will still be semi transparent, b/c im sure there will be plenty of developers who choose to not bother adding it

I tried this before on aokp jellybean, its ugly because the transparency isnt within the apps (just like iOS) but the homescreen you can see your wallpaper while inside an app lol i guess it all depends on the app if it wants you to use full emersion :/

Only nexus 5 has transparent bar, nexus 4 update to 4.4.2 cannot install latest android home launcher.

Just went thru an rooted installed this mod, literally does everything, except transparency lol Thanks tho for the help/replies guys.
Just use a custom rom with it built in. Custom roms have had transparencies way back in the day. Where do you think Google got the idea?
Xposed does this well. You have to enable transparency AND have a launcher and touchscreen that supports it. If your launcher doesn't support it then it won't work. Gotta have both.

Also, the fact it comes and goes is the problem. 4.4.4 bug w/ Apex maybe...

If I enable menu autohide, it'll be gone for a whole then come back!?
I've disabled it so we'll see what functionality I lose and whether it comes back again... Remember I don't mind seeing it in app, but when Launcher is only app open - I'd like it to am-scray
Update: with auto hide it still reappears!? If I disable it apps lose functionality... Reboot, or toggle hide/show in navbar settings gets rid of it for a while... But it's as annoying as heck!
