Battery not chargin - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Folks,
Please help out, my Nexus is not charging at all. Yesterday when I tried to charge it was stuck at 72% and not going further even after 3 hours.
After some usage it was 52%, then I had it connected to charger and browsed few videos and mail and was still 52% (read somewhere it won't charge when powered on).
Today I powered it off, kept for charge for 2 hours and still shows 52% though it says charging.
What could be the problem here?
I have tried original charger, original + diff cable, 2 different chargers as well.
The same combo of charger works fine with my mobile.
If the battery is the problem then it should have drained when I was watching videos and webpages when connected to charger but didn't.
So am very confused here.
OS: 4.4 Kitkat 2nd update (not 4.4.1 or 4.4.2).

[BATT] How long does it take yours to charge?

It takes mine ages. I can leave it plugged in for hours and it only charges a bit. Right now Battery Monitor widget estimates 8 hours on "AC" and 12 hours on "USB" for a 100% charge - 3/4 hours from 64%. That's slow, no?
I only get +2-400mA (341mA right now, sometimes less, or more) when plugged into my 5v-1A AC charger. How about you guys?
Any one else got charge times from a program like Battery Monitor Widget?
Takes about 4 hours from 1% to 100%
my HOX is charging.. i plug it at 9% 1 hour and 40 minute ago.. its 71% now..

That's very very slow. Check your cables, are they frayed? Cos I'm currently using the cable that came with my Desire Z and it's starting to fray pretty bad, and I'm only getting about 300-400mAh charge in. Used to charge at around 750+. I switched USB Cables (same charger, just different cables) and my charge rate jumped back to 750. Do note that charge rate slows down the closer it gets to 100%.
Mine took almost 3hrs for 0 to 100% charge.
3-4 hours from 5% to 100%
On the USB in college I get 20% is 2 hours lol on charger about 3 hours.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
That's weird then. Maybe I should buy a new cable. Do most of you get 700mA+ readings when charging?
The cable is very new, but I did get it from a shady seller - maybe it has a problem. I will get a new USB cable this evening.
It COULD be the problem? That's only from my own testing though. Try it with a friend's cable or something. Nokia and Samsung phones use the same Micro USB to charge.
Mine will go from 2% to 100% in 3 hour 5 min with an USB charger of 1.5A output.

Unfortunately the HOX is limited to a 1A input charge /:
i'm at my wits end, i bought an HTC one X today, and plugged it to the charger cos it was 7% of energy, it's been off for 3 hours and i turn it on and it says 8%, i'm using the cable and the charger that came with the cellphone, what could i do?, i even got a message while running the setup procedure that the phone consumes more energy than what it receives via AC, what to do? i'm worried

You've got a misbehaving app somewhere. Restart your phone and try again.
with the original charger and cable, it takes me roughly 3 hrs to fully charge my one X from 10%~ to 100%
with the cheap cable I bought and the Iphone charger, it takes me 4 hrs to charge from 9% to 90% ~ about 5 hrs to fully charge ~
I don't use my laptop's usb to charge, and I believe it will take much longer ~
With the official HTC cable that came in the box its taken me 3 hours to charge about 40%. Please someone tell me this is faulty.
Also the battery has never lasted more than 2hours 20 mins on screen with medium/heavy usage. and no more than 1 hour 30 with heavy usage (HD Video/streaming)
ALso when i unplug the charger at 100% it drops down to 90% within 10 minutes and then continues to plummet. I got around 6hours off screen time with music playing before it died.
Anyone have this issue?

The same thing happened to me today. I've noticed charging from a computer's USB gives a higher charge amperage.
I just ordered a 2A USB charger, but I also found that if I power off the phone and charge it, it charges very quickly.

That sounds like a serious problem. I would send it back. Although, you should poke around and see what's consuming all the energy.
Charging times without looking at the battery monitoring application reporting where energy is spent does not help much to understand where the problem is.
If the phone is really idle with good GSM coverage, no particular GSM activity and Wifi switched off, then more than 2 or 3 hours either shows that the charger isn't powerful enough (could happen with a car cigarette-lighter->USB charger or any charger that delivers less than 1A/H), or a faulty charger or battery.
If one has good charging times when the phone is switched off, then the problem is more likely related to the software running in the phone, fiddling with the phone while it's charging (keeping the screen on) or because of RF activity (GSM, Wifi).
So first switch the phone off, charge it at 100%, look at the time it took and if it's okay then look at the battery monitoring app to understand where energy is spent when the HOX is turned on...
what apps or widget do u guys use to see how much current(mA) is being charge to the phone?
hi all
mine charges from 25% to full in a little over 2 hrs
thats with the htc charger that came with it an the usb supplied by htc .... i have other leads that i used with my old deisre (non htc) and i gfet a very slow charge time .... i have got from ebay som high quality leads (if 2.99 post free is high quality) and they charge quickly so id say the onex is quite fussy over what leads you use to charge it
mind you im loving the phone have rooted mine and have the leedriod rom which is awsome

Battery draining while charging.

Hi XDA users,
I'm having some more issues with my N7 2013 I use my tablet mostly for watching youtube in the evening but my battery is like 20% most of the time so I plug it in and start watching youtube. But I've noticed that after half an hour the battery was 10%, the battery seems to be draining whilst plugged in! It happens every now and then sometimes it charges just fine, I've tried different chargers and cables but it doesn't affect it. The battery seems to be dropping 1 to 2% every 5 minutes and it'll eventually turn off and turn back on right after when it turns back on the loop continues, it works for another 10 minutes then it shuts off again! Of course if I leave it alone it will charge just fine but it's still weird that it discharges even though it's plugged in while in use. Even listening to music causes it to drain. I'm using a 5v @ 2amp charger so I assume that's not the problem. (I've also tried a bunch of 1 amp chargers but it has the same effect) I'm running screw'd android (5.0.2) and the only things that seem to be draining the battery are Youtube(22%) and the screen(18%) the rest is all 1 or 2%! Yes I've tried flashing ROM's and the issue does go away but it comes back after like a week or so.
Does anyone know what the problem is?
thanks,
noahvt
You're likely drawing more power than you're putting in. I believe the stock charger charges at 1500 or 1700 mAh, which should work to charge it while you're using it.
If you are using charger from another device charges more slowly like 500mAh or even 1000mAh, it may not be able to keep up.
I'm using a 2000mAh asus charger from my old TF300T and if I'm pulling more current than that charger can supply I don't know what the thing is doing

I think your device has some issues with battery. If you are still in warranty period, get it back to stock condition & contact the support
My wife has the same problem.. She has to turn her screen off, in order for the battery to charge.. If she doesn't, it keeps running the battery down.. Try turning the screen off, and check it after 15 minutes. You may be pleasantly surprised.. Hope this helps you out..

My Galaxy S2 SGH T989 does not charge with the new battery

Hi Folks,
I have bought a new original battery for my Galaxy S2 SGH T989 since my old battery is not holding the charge and discharges quickly. The new battery came with 40% charge. I have inserted the battery, turned off the phone and plugged into the charger whole night to make it ready for use. At morning, I am surprised to see the charge animation logo is showing as it is charging from 40%. I turned the phone on and saw the battery percentage as 41.
I tried to charge with the phone turned ON. And I noticed that it just charges for 2 to 3 seconds and then stops charging. The charging animation of the battery runs for 2 to 3 seconds and then stops. Have tried with different chargers, cables, power banks but it behaves the same. At times it charges for sometime like 15 to 20 mins and then stops. Somehow I managed to charge it to 90% but its really tiring to always keep an eye on it.
I am not facing this issue with my old battery. The old battery charges well with all the cables and chargers I have. I am not sure where could be the problem. Please help.

Wireless charging stops at 100% and wont restart

HI can anyone tell me if there is any way to resolve this. I think is has started since doing the upgrade to Android 10 earlier this week.
I normally put my phone onto the wireless charger before going to bed and I have noticed recently that when I grab it in the morning the battery percentage is sitting around the 90% mark. I initially thought the charger was not able to charge to 100% but on further examination I see that it indeed charged to 100% after I placed it on the charger and then the charging stopped and the phone ran on battery until I removed it in the morning.
I confirmed this this morning by replacing it on the charger and watching it charge (like watching paint dry ). The charger light was blue while charging, when the phone hit 100% the charger light turned to green but after about 30s it completely switched off and so too did the indication on the lock screen that a charger is connected. Removing and reseating the phone started charging again.
It definitely looks to be software related as I did not have this problem last week. I just wanted to ask if anyone here has noticed this and knows of any workaround?
For the record I am running fast wireless charging with the samsung wireless charger that came with my wifes S8, that charger works perfectly with my older Note8. I have also tried switching to normal wireless charging speed with no success.

Unplug the charger from its power source and plug it in again, causing it to 'reboot'. Let us know the results. Note, there is an option to set the wireless charging to NOT be fast during certain hours of the day. I set mine so it charges slowly while I am sleeping - to put less stress on the battery. Your charger may be a little old as well if you got it with a note 8 or S8 - ?

IMO this is a good feature to stop the wireless charger cooking your battery.
Maybe turn down your AOD brightness or something, to use 10% within a couple of hours of being idle is pretty high. Maybe turning off fast wireless charging would extend the charge time so it finishes nearer to when you wake up could help too.
Thanks for the feedback however it does sound like workarounds for an issue that should not be present (apart from rebooting the charger which I will try when I get home).
For me wireless charging should act just like wired charging in that when it reaches 100% the phone should essentially run off the charger now and not use battery at all. Every other phone with wireless charging that I have had worked that way, this is just plain stupid.
Willhemmens its not a couple hours, looking at the battery graph if I go to bed at 10pm and put the phone on the charger it pretty much hits 100% around 11:30 and then is at 90% at 7am, so it is 10% over 7 hours which is ok in my books, but reality is that during this time the phone has another source of power that it can and should use. It did before I applied the Android 10 update.
I have had this issue every now and again, and I found that rebooting it takes care of the issue.
An update. This morning I tried my wife's wireless charger and when the phone reaches 100% it continues to show the charge icon. Put my wife's note 8 into the wireless charger and it exhibited my problem.
So it looks like this is a problem with the wireless charger and not the phone.
Thanks for the answers guys I am of to try buy a new wireless charger
edit - New charger solved the problem.
