Now that 4.3 stock ROM is out, has anyone developed a method to roll back to previous JB stock ROM's?
From what I read, once you update the bootloader, you cannot go back. But surely one of our great developers has/will come up with a method.
Thanks

Would like to know when this comes out too. From what I know it hasn't been done yet. I'm constantly advised to flash a 4.3 ROM if I want to go back to stock but the current 4.3 ROM is way too buggy.

You can flash any rom you like as long as it does not contain a BOOTLOADER for further clarification look here ---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48211488&postcount=3

Thanks. So is the "not able to rollback" only related to the bootloader itself? And after upgrading to 4.3 with MJB bootloader, we can return to 4.12 as long as we don 't flash a 4.12 ROM with a bootloader?
Sorry for the questions, but for some reason my brain and the whole bootloader deal is a no-go

Can anybody confirm that if we are on 4.3 stock, and install CWM and non-stock ROM (CM, PA, etc.), will the warranty check flag change to 0x1 in download mode? Or will it remain at 0x0?

It will trip the flag if you flash a recovery. If you're worried about it tripping, don't flash anything. Mine tripped rooting stock with CF-Root. Not a big deal though, only two months left on the contract.

So...what does flashing the MJB bootloader provide that the MJ2 bootloader doesn't provide?

From what I have read wifi won't work without it.
I tried
I flash a 4.2.2 stock rom after OTA updating to 4.3 with a mobile odin. But the baseband and imei became unknown after I boot the phone. So I have to flash back to 4.3 again....LOL
I was able to flash to UCMG2 stock after what I will dub my 4.3 OTA fiasco lol I flashed it in TWRP using the download from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2388065
I did not need to flash any other item as everything appears to be functioning well.

I'm considering upgrading to a 4.3 rom from 4.1.2 and I've learned that a stock image of 4.3 must be flashed first (thorugh Odin?) to update the bootloader to 4.3.
Is there any drawback to upgrading? Will I still be able to flash 4.1.2 roms using the 4.3 bootloader? Will I be able to downgrade to the 4.1.2 bootloader (should the need arise)?
Side question: is Odin the only way to update the bootloader? Can it be flashed through TWRP?

You'll have Knox. (Stock) which locks u down cause u can't downgrade and by rooting, you're going for a un-reset-able Knox Warranty Void trigger. Downgrading bootloader is impossible as of now, but flashing ROMs should be possible. (Should, not damn sure)
Side Answer: don't think so. Just flash stock 4.3 through TWRP and u should be good to go.
Smack that thanks button If I helped!

I'm running 4.3 JediMasterX2 with old bootloader and devil kernel and everything seems to be running fine. There was a very informative post made recently they gave a clean and simple explication of pros and cons to bootloader update. I'll try to locate and post a link but long story short, it's in your best interest not to update bootloader if you don't have to.

Please don't do the official update and get yourself locked down like many of us have. I have flashed many 4.3 roms and they worked fine. Got a new phone and did the official update and now I cannot send this device in for warranty because of the KNOX flash counter.

Are you on ND3 bootloader? If you are on ND3 bootloader I suggest you flash back 4.4 stock ROM, but not any Jelly Bean ROM else you will get softbricked because knoxed bootloader does not support downgrading.
It often helps to explain, why you want to do something. You'll get a fuller answer. But I suppose it's up to you. Refer to post 2.

Hello everyone,
I have searched the site for some ways to unlock my device. I am running liquidsmooth 4.4.4 and as far as I know there is no way to unlock customs Roms running 4.3/4.4, unless you go back to the original stock rom and use either AT&T or third party site unlock code. So, I called AT&T and they provided me with the unlock code and they told me the same thing, the unlock code will not work until you go back to the original factory stock rom!
So, I have been searching here for the right 4.3 stock rom and I found out many posts and I got confused which to use. I would highly appropriate it if any one can help me and direct me to the right source/process for 4.3 stock rom steps and installation so I won't brick my phone.
Thanks in advance

If your bootloaders are on 4.4, you can't downgrade them (or you'll brick!).
You can use Terminal Emulator to know which one you're on:
Code:
getprop ro.bootloader
Once you know which one you have, you can go ahead and grab its stock version.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1968625
i think this thread provides stock downloads.
good luck.

Thanks for the reply, I checked the bootloader as you said and I got ( I747UCDLK3 ). So, I am guessing that I am still on 4.3 because the last bootloader update was through this process:

I tried to flash the stock file update4.3.zip on that thread using TWRP but it did not work.
Any idea?

LK3 is 4.1.1. I'm guessing the 4.3 bootloaders update didn't work at all.
Now that you know you have LK3, just grab the stock firmware and flash it. (backup first)

This is really strange. So, if I may ask, how my bootloader is still 4.1.1 and I am able to flash 4.3/4.4 roms? Also, if I install I747UCDLK3 can I go back to 4.3 custom roms without updating the bootloader!!! because that what I did last time I follwed the steps in below web site to be able to flash 4.3 rom,,,,, but apparently I am still on 4.1.1 bootloader!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387423
4.3 roms could still be flashed on older firmware. 4.4 roms too as long as they are not touchwiz. If its a touchwiz 4.4.2 rom you must have at least 4.3 firmware though.
Hi i want to know if i can flash an original 4.3 firmware my bootloader is I747MVLUFNE6 can i go back or i will brick my phone if i tried?
No you cannot downgrade firmware. You can only flash the same or newer builds. Or you can flash older roms and kernels, but nothing else.
I have on SGS3 at&t android 4.4.2 with NE4 bootloader and modem. I want to go back stock but it is safe if i flash stock rom from samsung website? I mean the stock rom is LDK3 and i have NE4. It will works just fine?
You cannot downgrade your bootloader and a downgraded ROM on a recent bootloader probably won't work. Also, certain incompatible modem and bootloader combinations can brick your phone.

I am trying to upgrade an S3 from an older kit kat aosp rom to a 5.0+ rom. The phone is still on the UCDMG2 bootloader/baseband combo. I kept it on that version to keep my unlocked bootloader and not worry about all this e-fuse stuff going on.
So here is the problem. 5.0 roms flash ok, but say I have no signal. I am able to make phone calls and send text messages, but I have no data. Is there a modem I can flash that will work on 5.0+ roms with the old bootloader? I have been sifting through the various modem/bootloader threads with no luck. Any suggestions on how to obtain data?

as i understand it , and could be completely wrong , but bootloaders and modems should always match. have you tried a different kernel ?

quantum was an excellent kernel when i had my S3. also i believe ktoonsez makes a lollipop kernel but i couldnt find the link.

Ok good to know. So once you upgrade, you don't have to unlock the bootloader to flash recovery/rom?
Edit: sorry, dumb question.
After upgrading to the mjb or newer bootloader, you cannot downgrade the bootloader to an older version. Also, the upgraded bootloader will remain unlocked so you can easily flash a custom recovery in Odin.

Can you point me towards the best way to upgrade? I have found some flashable zips, but would prefer to do it through Odin.
I think the safest way to get to the newest bootloader and modem would be to use the 4.1.1 firmware on sammobile.com to flash back to stock in Odin. Once you set up the ROM on your phone, run the OTA updates until you have the latest modem and bootloader. It the slowest way to do but, in my opinion, the safest.
If you phone is not sim unlocked, you can use the free method to permanently unlock the phone while you are on stock 4.1.1.
Once you are on the latest ROM, you could install a custom recovery, create a nandroid backup of the stock ROM, and then flash a custom ROM.

You should run through the free unlock method after you flash back to stock. Even if the phone is already unlocked, it won't re lock.
