Back to stock. Safe? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I have on SGS3 at&t android 4.4.2 with NE4 bootloader and modem. I want to go back stock but it is safe if i flash stock rom from samsung website? I mean the stock rom is LDK3 and i have NE4. It will works just fine?

You cannot downgrade your bootloader and a downgraded ROM on a recent bootloader probably won't work. Also, certain incompatible modem and bootloader combinations can brick your phone.

Rollback from 4.3 to 4.12 or Earlier Stock ROM

Now that 4.3 stock ROM is out, has anyone developed a method to roll back to previous JB stock ROM's?
From what I read, once you update the bootloader, you cannot go back. But surely one of our great developers has/will come up with a method.
Thanks

Would like to know when this comes out too. From what I know it hasn't been done yet. I'm constantly advised to flash a 4.3 ROM if I want to go back to stock but the current 4.3 ROM is way too buggy.

You can flash any rom you like as long as it does not contain a BOOTLOADER for further clarification look here ---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48211488&postcount=3

Thanks. So is the "not able to rollback" only related to the bootloader itself? And after upgrading to 4.3 with MJB bootloader, we can return to 4.12 as long as we don 't flash a 4.12 ROM with a bootloader?
Sorry for the questions, but for some reason my brain and the whole bootloader deal is a no-go

Can anybody confirm that if we are on 4.3 stock, and install CWM and non-stock ROM (CM, PA, etc.), will the warranty check flag change to 0x1 in download mode? Or will it remain at 0x0?

It will trip the flag if you flash a recovery. If you're worried about it tripping, don't flash anything. Mine tripped rooting stock with CF-Root. Not a big deal though, only two months left on the contract.

From what I have read wifi won't work without it.
I tried
I flash a 4.2.2 stock rom after OTA updating to 4.3 with a mobile odin. But the baseband and imei became unknown after I boot the phone. So I have to flash back to 4.3 again....LOL
I was able to flash to UCMG2 stock after what I will dub my 4.3 OTA fiasco lol I flashed it in TWRP using the download from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2388065
I did not need to flash any other item as everything appears to be functioning well.

LTE Problems

Hey guys
I installed a nightly of CM11 a while ago and it broke my LTE. The consensus is that you need to install a stock-based ROM, then flash back to CM11 to get LTE working again.
I have flashed an MK5 modem, but am unsure of my bootloader compatibility with the current TouchWiz ROM's out there.
I am on the MF1 bootloader (Canadian phone). Do I need to upgrade/downgrade my bootloader to install any of these TW ROM's? Or can I just flash between TW and CM11 to my heart's consent?
The ROM's say you must be running a 4.3 modem and bootloader...but I can't find any info on whether or not MF1 is a 4.3 bootloader or not?
Thanks,
Elliott
Bump
I haven't tried cm11 yet but using c-rom I had these problems. under settings-mobile networks-preferred network type, check to see the right network is selected. If you don't have these options then my apologies.

MF1 is 4.1.2. The latest Canadian bootloader is MK5 (Which you can't downgrade from).

Well usually you need the same modem as your bootloaders. Some of them are really picky so having the MK5 might be why your LTE isn't working.
You can grab the stock ROM in the general stickies and flash it with Odin though (make sure to backup) if flashing a 4.1.2 modem doesn't fix it.

Okay. What I'm most concerned about is flashing a 4.3 TW ROM with the bootloader that I have. Is having a bootloader from 4.1.2 a bad thing? Or can I install all ROM's with MF1?

Only the downgrade is dangerous, you can upgrade without any problem. That being said, you could just flash the stock 4.1.2.
And if I flash a stock based ROM will it upgrade my bootloader to one I won't be able to downgrade from?
Any suggestions for ROM's?

It depends which one you decide to flash. You can flash stock 4.1.2 just like you could flash 4.3 (which you can't downgrade from).

Going back to stock from cm11?

I'm on cm11 m9 and it's been acting hellafunky lately, so I figured I'd switch back to stock to see if that cleared it up. I know TW is still on 4.4.3 but I can't find a flashable image of it anywhere. Is it possible to go back to stock, or are the cm bootloaders and such to new to be able to do this without bricking the device?
What bootloader is on your phone? Is it an i747 or i747m?
If you are on 4.3 or higher, you cannot flash back to stock unless you use a ROM that has been specifically compiled for flashing in Odin.

On bootloader NE4, I was able to flash back to to stock using the image in here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=56510020
Everything is working swimmingly.
'ENEWMAN17' threads are the most helpful when it comes to returning an SGS3 device back to stock KitKat ROM. You must strictly adhere to his instructions. Good luck!
Iv flashed my cm11 back to stock using cwm and flashing a odexed 4.4.2 samsung rom without any problems.

If the phone is an i747m, I recommend getting a stock ROM from sammobile. com. I'm not sure if a bootloader and modem file is included in the enewman17's thread but flashing an i747 bootloader and modem onto an i747m could result in a brick.

reverting to 4.1.1

i have the s3 att on a 4.4.4 CROM. the baseband says ...LK3. can i use any guide using odin to go back to 4.1.1 stock unrooted and then use OTA updates to get the latest baseband/bootloader/modem? just want to make sure before i do it. i hear this is the safest way and i want to make sure i have met the requirements before i do it so i dont end up having a brick! (not sure if it matters but i have never used OTA updates before)
thanks in advance.
Is your bootloader also the lk3? If the modem and bootloader are lk3, you can use Odin to flash back to stock using firmware from sammobile.com.
Ok, I'm on a similar boat. I tried several AOSP based ROMs, and while I like most of them a lot more than stock touchwiz, they all present the same problems:
- Camera stops working sometimes and I have to reboot device;
- Camera won't record videos in 1080p, even when it's selected in the settings;
- Cannot make video calls on Skype longer than 5 seconds before the call drops;
- Disconnecting a bluetooth media device while music is streaming causes sounds to stop working;
- Tap to pay doesn't work at all;
So because of these problems, I want to go back to stock . My phone is the AT&T version. Currently I'm running Carbon Rom with KitKat 444. The baseband version is I747UCUFNJ1. The latest version of the stock ROM available on sammobile is:
Version: Android 4.1.1
PDA: I747UCDLK3
CSC: I747ATTDLK3
MODEM: I747UCDLK3
Would I be able to revert my phone back to stock with Odin? If not, what would I have to do to revert? Am I stuck with custom ROMs?
I'm pretty new to this so I'd appreciate anybody's help.
If your bootloader and modem is the lk3, you should be able to Odin back to stock 4.1.1.
Ok, how do I find out if they are? And if they are not, do I have any other options?

I tried to push that ROM the phone using adb to flash it with ClockWorkMod, but the file is 1.7 GB and the phone always shuts itself down during the push process... So I wasn't able to try that. What do you mean by the phone shuts down? Did you try copying the ROM to a microSD card?
Did you notice any bootloader or modem files in the S3Rx 4.0 (11-9-14) ROM? It may not include a modem or bootloader. In step 1 of the flash process, it says "AT&T I747 users should update bootloaders and modem to NE4 http://forum.xda-developers.com/gala...pdate-t2808654 I747M and T999 users need to be on 4.3 firmware or ROM will not boot. the link i posted is TW. post #1306 claims is o.k. to flash with UFNJ1.
did not see any mention of bootloader or modem in changelog or in list of 'extra' features.

I reboot the phone in ClockWorkMod recovery. Then I go to the command prompt and type:
Code:
adb push S3Rx_UCUFNE4_AROMA_11-9-14.zip /sdcard/
It starts pushing the file to the phone, but after a while, the phone screen goes black, and I get a "Protocol failure" on the command prompt. After this the power button no longer works, I have to do a battery pull for the phone to work again. The phone has 10 GB of storage left so it didn't run out of space. The USB chord is brand new so I don't think it's that either. It worked fine before when I pushed other smaller roms.
In another question, would this process allow me to downgrade the modem and restore stock rom?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831898
i am pretty sure that since youre on MJ1 , your bootloader and modem have to match.
"all i can really do , is stay out of my own way and let the will of heaven be done"
Did you try flashing the card from an external microSD card?
AT&T never released a stock ROM for the i747 beyond 4.1.1 afaik; therefore, you cannot get back to stock unless you flash an OTA ROM that has been compiled for flashing in Odin.
I do not recommend mixing and matching bootloaders and modems as a mismatch may result in a hard brick.
Downgrading only the modem will not allow you to flash back to stock.

So you're basically telling me I'm stuck with custom roms unless I find a 4.4.2 OTA ROM I can flash with Odin (which doesn't appear to exist)?

Would it be safe to try this:

Once you upgrade to the 4.3 or newer bootloader on the i747, you are stuck with either custom ROMs or OTA ROMs that have been compiled for flashing in Odin or CWM/TWRP.
You can try flashing the NE4 ROM because it doesn't appear to include a bootloader or modem. The first post says "Prerequisites include a minimum of a 4.3 bootloader and modem.
If you are not on the official 4.4.2 bootloaders and modem then you will need to flash ktoonsez kernel."
Thanks audit13 and mrrocketdog for all the help. I was able to get the AROMA rom installed on the phone. All functionalities lost with AOSP ROMs are back working so that's a plus. Still can't get updates OTA updates but this phone is probably not gonna have any new ones. Still hopeful that lolipop based AOSP ROMs fix the problems I had, but I'm not holding my breath.

Modem requirements for lollipop?

I am trying to upgrade an S3 from an older kit kat aosp rom to a 5.0+ rom. The phone is still on the UCDMG2 bootloader/baseband combo. I kept it on that version to keep my unlocked bootloader and not worry about all this e-fuse stuff going on.
So here is the problem. 5.0 roms flash ok, but say I have no signal. I am able to make phone calls and send text messages, but I have no data. Is there a modem I can flash that will work on 5.0+ roms with the old bootloader? I have been sifting through the various modem/bootloader threads with no luck. Any suggestions on how to obtain data?

Ok good to know. So once you upgrade, you don't have to unlock the bootloader to flash recovery/rom?
Edit: sorry, dumb question.
After upgrading to the mjb or newer bootloader, you cannot downgrade the bootloader to an older version. Also, the upgraded bootloader will remain unlocked so you can easily flash a custom recovery in Odin.

Can you point me towards the best way to upgrade? I have found some flashable zips, but would prefer to do it through Odin.
I think the safest way to get to the newest bootloader and modem would be to use the 4.1.1 firmware on sammobile.com to flash back to stock in Odin. Once you set up the ROM on your phone, run the OTA updates until you have the latest modem and bootloader. It the slowest way to do but, in my opinion, the safest.
If you phone is not sim unlocked, you can use the free method to permanently unlock the phone while you are on stock 4.1.1.
Once you are on the latest ROM, you could install a custom recovery, create a nandroid backup of the stock ROM, and then flash a custom ROM.

You should run through the free unlock method after you flash back to stock. Even if the phone is already unlocked, it won't re lock.
