Hello Galaxy Nexus Xda Users!
Informations:
Here is a simple apk to odex automatically, easily and securely deodexed roms.
This apk has been coded by the famous Paul Obrien from Modaco Roms and Forums.
This guy is just a genious.
The original apk has been done for Galaxy S II but it works on Galaxy Nexus (tested working). --> Original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1215271
Paul is even using it in his own Galaxy Nexus 4.0.4 Custom Rom here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487056
But I tested the apk on other 4.0.3 deodexed roms that you can find in the development section of the Galaxy Nexus and it is working perfectly (Aokp odexed rom is wonderful...)
Odexing a deodexed rom is giving you a boost in smoothness (you can see it in the launcher or in scrolling through system apps), performance and battery.
It gives you the flexibility to have a custom rom with modified system, framework and design AND all the tweaks that come with a custom rom in addition to the performance of an odexed stock rom.
To use it:
1) make sure you have a custom rooted rom / kernel with init.d support (scripts must be able to run at boot: it is a folder in /system/etc). It is very important or it won't run pre-boot scripts... Thanks to open1your1eyes0 who remarked it.
You can try this useful application to add init.d support to your ROM / kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1933849
2) make sure that you don't have transparent status bar before odexing or you will loose your bar after odexing... (for AOKP users for example). Thanks to frantic912 who noticed it.
3) simply put the apk in /system/app folder with a file browser like "Root Explorer" (the folder must be in RW mode to copy the file)
4) do a nandroid backup in cwm and / or titanium backup of all your apps (even the system ones like Gmail)
5) then go to the launcher
6) tap "Odex me"
7) follow the instructions
It will:
1) reboot your phone
2) odex all the system staying on a black screen or on the Google screen a bit longer than normally (but it's normal)
3) put a ".odex" file with each app in /system/app
4) reboot again
5) go back to home
--> You will then see your boost in smoothness!
For people who are not convinced: check that: http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...e-difference-between-odexed-and-deodexed-roms
To see if it worked:
- Go to /system/app folder and see if there is a ".odex extension" for each system apk.
I attached the apk to this thread for ease of use.
Please write here your tests, opinions, questions, and thank Paul (and me for giving you this info ) for this wonderful and simple apk.
P.S. Please read reports from other users in the thread before trying the apk as some users seem to loose their status bar if they set transparency effects or some of them are having "force closes" if the rom they are using is too much themed...
P.S.2. Pay attention please, as androidphone2012 intelligently noticed, this apk can only odex *.apk files. The system framework is not odexed by it. To odex the framework too, please use the following script instead. It odexes *.apk files and Framework *.jar files too.
--> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2278586
If you already ran the apk to odex apk files, do not flash that zip: re-flash your ROM, GApps and MODs you're using and then flash the zip.
For your information, I tested the CM10.1 zip from the thread on my AOKP latest nightly build version and it worked flawlessly.
Looks cool. Nothing is attached to your post though.
Can I use it on other devices? (Galaxy si900)
I don't think this works. It rebooted and when I booted back and checked, there were no .odex files in the /system/app folder. Has anyone else got it working?
FYI, tested on 4.0.4 stock deodexed ROM.

Oups Sorry.
I was at work, I attached it but maybe when I posted the thread, it didn't put it...
I reuploaded it...
It's ok now.
Disregard previous post...
Did not have init.d support. Very important or it won't run pre-boot scripts!

You can try, it could work.
I will try this week end as I go to a friend who has a Galaxy S and I will test on his phone.
Will report after but you could do a nandroid backup, test by yourself and report here too

Thanks. I knew that. Just forgot to post it.
I modified OP to inform about that.

So apparently I spoke to soon...
The app ran this time but after the reboot and odex process, my SystemUI wouldn't load and I ended up with no notification bar up top or any soft-keys at all. Also it was back to stock wallpaper. Not sure what happened, it looked like everything went through fine but I guess my SystemUI is borked.
Recovering from backup now...
I am not sure what caused this issue. I did have modded soft-keys and battery icon however, but I don't see why this would matter if a lot of the custom ROMs have modded soft-keys anyway. I would like to point out this was on stocked deodexed 4.0.4 ROM. If this works for anyone else, I would surely like to know. MAKE SURE you backup before trying.
Thank you Flolep
It works great for me, but I don't know why Gmail disappeared. But it's still in /system/app, so I tried to install and I get this : Application not installed

It's a system app so you can't "install" it. It has to be flashed into the ROM. I have a feeling this app is not exactly the most reliable in working with all the apks.

Well. I didn't have any problem with it... Gmail was still there and my framework and system ui didn't have any problem after reboot...
I tried with modaco 4.0.4 rom that is near stock 4.0.4 deodexed rom and I tried with heavily customized aokp latest aokp build 25 rom, configured for my needs, battery percent, toggles, navigation controls in blue, etc, etc, and all worked seamlessly...
I add to first thread to do a nandroid backup before launching the process.

I will keep in view for this app until more success cases reported
But I definitely will try after back from my vacation, wouldn't risk to brick my device on a trip ;p
I finally found the problem...
I forgot that the custom ROM I'm using needs a sort of modded Gapps pack to be install via CWM.
I think here is the issue.
Worked fine for me. GSM GN on AOKP B25. Just make a backup in cwm before you do it. Worst case scenario: it boot loops, you pop the battery, boot into recovery and restore.
Do you know the muffin man?

Well, for me, it is worth it as the added functionalities are very good...
did u notice any different after odex....mine before this at Quadrant got score 3250, now just 2500....
These mods are flashable zips which can be applied against any deodexed Android 4.2 (JOP40C) ROM. My testing was done against bigxie's latest version but it should work with many other ROMs (including pure AOSP builds). If you are running completely stock (i.e. odexed), this will fail, so do not even try.
Here's what's available:
24dpi navbar
28dpi navbar
32dpi navbar
36dpi navbar
Disable signature checking (offered separately and required for non-Google AOSP builds)
Blue versions of all of the above by Coolgoly
Those of you running unofficial AOSP builds (i.e. ROMs not based on Google-provided images), you will need to flash the signature disabling patch in addition the navbar of your choice; ordering does not matter as long as both are done before you reboot. If you would like to request additional navbar sizes, feel free. However, I do not plan to offer alternate colors or otherwise.
Please take a backup before applying this patch and report any issues you encounter.
Changelog:
r2 - 2012.11.21 -- Re-done using apktool; no signature checking re-enabled.
r1 - 2012.11.19 -- Initial release.
:good: was waiting for this.. it would be nice if you could also make a default one to revert back if needed
Agreed. The ability to flash a stock one would be nice thanks for what you've done though

Otherwise, all system apps would need to have matching certificates, which is just going to cause problems for everyone. If you are concerned about signature checking being disabled, you can remove services.jar from the zip but be forewarned that you will likely encounter issues.

I was puzzled by this myself for other reasons... apparently Android checks for the AndroidManifest's signature (and only that one, it doesn't care about the resources themselves). So you can swap out the META-INF folder (this is the signature) and the AndroidManifest.xml from the stock framework-res.apk to your own framework-res No need to disable the check!
And by the way... if you compile ApkTool from source and use the latest aapt binary from the android SDK it works with 4.2!
Android process force closed with bigxie AOSP v2. Had to restore backup

Has anyone gotten these to work correctly? I tried on two different Roms (bigxie's and another) and they work but my location services get disabled in Google now.
This Mod is for all of those among us, who want to have the Trebuchet App drawer transparent on and with CM10.1 Roms
All credits and thanks go to:
- wesamothman who gave me his permission to post and whose ToDo or Guide makes it possible for me to port/transfer it for our device and to CM10.1!

New and updated version v4 - for Android 4.4/CM10.2 - Trebuchet.apk with more settings pressing left settings key
Guide/HowTo additional changes in Post 2
Installation:
Download the Transparent_Trebuchet_CM10.xx.zip of your choice and flash it via CWM and reboot. If you want to have your original Launcher back, just restore the backup created from universal flasher in folder universalflasher.
The issues mentioned in some posts can be reduced with following workaround:
- go to System settings/developer options deactivate: window animation scale, Transition animation scale + Animator duration scale.
- go to System settings/home screen/homescreen/Transition effect and change it to standard or tablet.
This will minimize the mentioned delay with disappearing app icons, after changing to app drawer view and/or back to homescreen. And in my opinion or feeling, the launcher is much faster.
I have tested it on CM10.2 Nightly (cm-10.2-20130905 plus many others-NIGHTLY-galaxysmtd).
On other Roms it should work too, but i haven't tried yet. But feel free to test it and report back.
If there are other requests, for example different kind of transparency or for other Devices, questions, bugs or what ever, please feel free to post it here or send me a pm. I answer and update all asap.

If you want to take out the texts below the app icons in app drawer, on homescreen and below created folders:
change line
@dimen/workspace_icon_text_size
to
0.0dip
in
If you only want to take out the texts below the icons in app drawer:
include line
0.0dip
in
can you make the status bar transparent ? ( not when it's open )
I already tried it and will try it further, but for the moment found no solution for it. Hope I will get it to work soon or even anytimes .

If they have and work with Trebuchet.apk, it could be. But I don't think this version not..guess that it has to be compiled with the individual framework. But should be no problem to do that.

Does Slim work with trebuchet or with Launcher2? The rom itself comes along with Hololauncher....I am already trying to compile it for slim, but even get erros during decomiling the framework-res ...so I really do not know whether its working then and cannot test it for you at the moment...but you can give it a try if you want to. So no problems with this Mod, just flash and enjoy!
It works, but when you open a app, then exit a app, it reverts back to a black background. The wallpaper/transparency returns when I put the phone to sleep then reawaken it. Any ideas what is going wrong?
I also noticed that issue, but if I return to homescreen and tick appdrawer icon in dock it returns to transparency again. So for me no need to put phone to sleep and rewake again.
But anyways its not perfect so....do you know whether this has been since the beginning, or just came along with a new ROM/Nightly version installed?
On which ROM/Nightly and device are you?

Here is what I found in regards to that. ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2243705 )
Some of the code does not match 100% like in my smali files, and made an educated guess on one line, but i was finally able to properly decompile and edit, and re-compile , but i got the dreaded sense stopped working lol... if it was not for xml edits i would not have to fool with apk tool , but xmls are in binary and damn near impossible to read as is.
I will tinker a bit later , after the last 1.5 hours now and hours earlier today am done thinking about it.

Will you can technically do both, i have replaced system apks, but you get a sense crash error i will say 100% of the time for this one, just re-boot after replacing and it should be good provided you have root of course. Its prob easier to boot to a custom recovery if you have one and flash it.
Your choice. NANDROID first if you replace the apk directly
Another dumb question which file do I flash

Guys how to enable navigation bar on stock odex Rom 4.2.2?
I used gravity box and Modaco tools and both are giving error as 'system ui has stopped' and blank statusbar after reboot
Then I tried build.prop edit and even I landed on same error
Anybody has tried? If so could give a proper way to enable it thanks.

sir i also tried it once but had same fate as your's
i think we can only have it only in custom roms like pac rom or aokp or cm
I tried even on stock based custom ROMs but no results...this can be done only on cm or pacman ROMs as u said.

I think I had to decompile SystemUI.apk and add/edit something like

#FFRRBBGG

then adding/editing the line in build.prop didn't cause FC and gave me nav bars.
I did this a long time ago I can't be sure that's all I did, but it was something along those lines. I'm sure there's a method available on xda to enable navbar on samsung 4.2.2 by now
We hv to write d above gvn lines at last in build.prop. ..?

Yes and the systemUI needs to be decompiled, edited and recompiled into an apk to stop the force closes on stock ROM with nav bar
I also tried many things on stock to enable navbar but no use.
I also watched a few videos on youtube and for them it was working on stock but i made the same changes in build.prop but every time the same error, dont know why.
So now i'm on CM11 and using navbar, I dont know what the problem is but i'm sure some devs will soon be able to solve this.

I came across this while browsing through XDA, Ultimate Dynamic NavBar
Since there is no available mod for stock ROMs for our device, it would be easier to rely on this App/Xposed module to enable Nav Bar in your phone. It also offers several customization options along with themeing the icons visible in your navbar.

I've used this one but the stock navbar is better coz it works well with the UI.
But i've seen a few videos, you can also check them out on youtube, the guy made changes in the stock rom in build.prop by adding qemu.hw.mainkeys=0, restarted and voila he got the navbar. I just wanna know how?

That works most of the time, specially in AOSP ROMs, but unfortunately simply doing that in most new Samsung 4.2.2+ firmware causes SystemUI to crash.
From what I know, this happens because our SystemUI was not designed to support a NavBar so when the android system allots the lower space to the Navbar (after editing build.prop) the SystemUI tries to redraw over/with it and fails, causing a FC. Therefore, something like the line I mentioned in one of my earlier posts is required in the drawables of SystemUI.apk before Navbar can be used on stock.
"
#FFRRBBGG
"
Fortunately for us, we now have Xposed, which enables us to edit system apks without actually modifying them. So in my opinion it's easier to simply make/use a mod for enabling this feature in SystemUI.apk rather than making a ROM-specific mod for enabling it.
