These mods are flashable zips which can be applied against any deodexed Android 4.2 (JOP40C) ROM. My testing was done against bigxie's latest version but it should work with many other ROMs (including pure AOSP builds). If you are running completely stock (i.e. odexed), this will fail, so do not even try.
Here's what's available:
24dpi navbar
28dpi navbar
32dpi navbar
36dpi navbar
Disable signature checking (offered separately and required for non-Google AOSP builds)
Blue versions of all of the above by Coolgoly
Those of you running unofficial AOSP builds (i.e. ROMs not based on Google-provided images), you will need to flash the signature disabling patch in addition the navbar of your choice; ordering does not matter as long as both are done before you reboot. If you would like to request additional navbar sizes, feel free. However, I do not plan to offer alternate colors or otherwise.
Please take a backup before applying this patch and report any issues you encounter.
Changelog:
r2 - 2012.11.21 -- Re-done using apktool; no signature checking re-enabled.
r1 - 2012.11.19 -- Initial release.
:good: was waiting for this.. it would be nice if you could also make a default one to revert back if needed
Agreed. The ability to flash a stock one would be nice thanks for what you've done though

Since apktool is not currently able to decompile 4.2 resources, the navbar mod was produced by compiling from AOSP. I've also patched services.jar to eliminate signature checking. Otherwise, all system apps would need to have matching certificates, which is just going to cause problems for everyone. If you are concerned about signature checking being disabled, you can remove services.jar from the zip but be forewarned that you will likely encounter issues.

I was puzzled by this myself for other reasons... apparently Android checks for the AndroidManifest's signature (and only that one, it doesn't care about the resources themselves). So you can swap out the META-INF folder (this is the signature) and the AndroidManifest.xml from the stock framework-res.apk to your own framework-res No need to disable the check!
And by the way... if you compile ApkTool from source and use the latest aapt binary from the android SDK it works with 4.2!
Android process force closed with bigxie AOSP v2. Had to restore backup

Hi everyone
I ported two little mods to the latest JB 4.2. They have been tested on the stock odexed ROM but they could work on a deodexed one ^_^
- GB Theme Remover removes the Gingerbread "theme" from all the old apps and displays them with the Holo (4.0+) one. The mod was originally ported by lippol94 to 4.1. Just flash the zip.
- Facebook Sync makes you sync your FB contacts with the built-in People app.
How to:
- Delete the FB account
- Flash the zip
- Go to Settings, Applications, Contacts Storage and delete its data (make sure you have synced your contacts before doing this...)
- Open the Facebook app and as soon as you enter your login, it should ask you to sync.
Hope they are useful ^_^
Not sure what I done wrong when I tried using this on mmuzys 4.2 gave me a boot loop. Had to reflash OS rom.
Would love to try this mod though.

There are no images. Changes are made to XML files.
Well do you know which XML files?
Because those can be replaced with zip themer as well
Its replacing Styles.xml which cannot be zipthemer'd. Framework has to manually be decompiled and modded.
Don't do this if you don't know anything about it.
I did this on my galaxy nexus with xenonhd running on it and it didn't end well. After I rebooted it diden't sync anything anymore now I have to completely reflash everything again

As I said it's just for 4.2 ROMs... and probably as I learned these days, only for the stock ROM because Android checks for the signature of framework-res and a lot of apks in /system/app. They must match or the OS won't even boot. These mods keep Google's signature so the only ROMs which work are Google-signed ones.
I got a boot loop on aosp r5.

I'm still quite frustrated coming up with a decent name, if you have any nice suggestions do PM me.
I was experimenting some short cuts to battery saving so I reconfigured my build.prop
I put at least 3 nights into this thing not including time used to experiment around!!!
So If It really does help, please click Thanks
Majorly speaking, I am still an inexperienced script kiddie.
But I do like to experiment on my phone a lot.
I'll go straight to the point now.
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for any phone bricking, and by applying this script requires root access which means that your warranty is already voided.
The purpose of this build.prop update is that it saves battery yet increase responsiveness when used such as screen scrolling and stuff.
All the values and lines is not original, someone used them, I just modified so that I think it fits our device the most.
I checked and it seemed that all the remaining stuff in it is compatible with ICS.
I enabled most of the hardware rendering so that when its running it will sort of run turbo or something, at least at the launcher it did.
Again I must inform I am still inexperienced but all the things I experimented on worked on my device.
Requirements:
Device: Samsung Galaxy W or any Qualcomm Devices
Recovery: CWM 5/6
ROM: Rooted Android based OS
Kernel: Doesn't matter
Works well with: Seeder(works well with anything anyhow )
Installation step-by-step:
Download the Latest .zip below this post
Then Save the file into your sdcard
BACK UP FIRST

2. Apply XtiveJetLauncher.zip
3. Wipe Dalvik cache

5. Watch phone Fire Up
X. Only use the QC 2.2 if your phone stucks at bootanimation.
We now have flashable version for ALL
These are lines which are already inside your build.prop by default(refered to arco's cm9) but replace values with these new ones.
Code:
dalvik.vm.heapsize=48m
dalvik.vm.dexopt-flags=v=n,o=a,u=y
Enjoy.
Please give me lots of feed back so that I can improve.

nah, but just repeating those lines will do nothing. Go to your build.prob and remove them, then flash if you really want to.
Just to be more specific (if i am not already) they are the same exact line, with no values changed. But a version that adds them without effort (because copy and paste is an effort lol)

If you're saying the differences between V2.1 and V2.2 its only those replaceable lines.

The think is that in layout and layout_land you need to remove the whole code and paste his...the thing is that if you compare the 2 codes you can see that alot of change in recents code but you remove alot of code existing..im pretty sure thats causing the FC's i try with a guide for 10.1 and i still have this problem...systemui refuse to load even when the phone reboots properly..so maybe if we exclude the fact that we can copy and paste...the code there is old and cm has added a lot of stuff in it after that...so we need someone who knows to check the code and apply it to a newest version of cm...
and remember those guides are for cm if your trying to do it on a PA or SLIM or anyother heavy tweaked rom you will mess a hell lot more things!
Guys how to enable navigation bar on stock odex Rom 4.2.2?
I used gravity box and Modaco tools and both are giving error as 'system ui has stopped' and blank statusbar after reboot
Then I tried build.prop edit and even I landed on same error
Anybody has tried? If so could give a proper way to enable it thanks.

sir i also tried it once but had same fate as your's
i think we can only have it only in custom roms like pac rom or aokp or cm
I tried even on stock based custom ROMs but no results...this can be done only on cm or pacman ROMs as u said.

I think I had to decompile SystemUI.apk and add/edit something like

#FFRRBBGG

then adding/editing the line in build.prop didn't cause FC and gave me nav bars.
I did this a long time ago I can't be sure that's all I did, but it was something along those lines. I'm sure there's a method available on xda to enable navbar on samsung 4.2.2 by now
We hv to write d above gvn lines at last in build.prop. ..?

Yes and the systemUI needs to be decompiled, edited and recompiled into an apk to stop the force closes on stock ROM with nav bar
I also tried many things on stock to enable navbar but no use.
I also watched a few videos on youtube and for them it was working on stock but i made the same changes in build.prop but every time the same error, dont know why.
So now i'm on CM11 and using navbar, I dont know what the problem is but i'm sure some devs will soon be able to solve this.

I came across this while browsing through XDA, Ultimate Dynamic NavBar
Since there is no available mod for stock ROMs for our device, it would be easier to rely on this App/Xposed module to enable Nav Bar in your phone. It also offers several customization options along with themeing the icons visible in your navbar.

I've used this one but the stock navbar is better coz it works well with the UI.
But i've seen a few videos, you can also check them out on youtube, the guy made changes in the stock rom in build.prop by adding qemu.hw.mainkeys=0, restarted and voila he got the navbar. I just wanna know how?

That works most of the time, specially in AOSP ROMs, but unfortunately simply doing that in most new Samsung 4.2.2+ firmware causes SystemUI to crash.
From what I know, this happens because our SystemUI was not designed to support a NavBar so when the android system allots the lower space to the Navbar (after editing build.prop) the SystemUI tries to redraw over/with it and fails, causing a FC. Therefore, something like the line I mentioned in one of my earlier posts is required in the drawables of SystemUI.apk before Navbar can be used on stock.
"
#FFRRBBGG
"
Fortunately for us, we now have Xposed, which enables us to edit system apks without actually modifying them. So in my opinion it's easier to simply make/use a mod for enabling this feature in SystemUI.apk rather than making a ROM-specific mod for enabling it.
