Problem with gyro? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Hi!
I have a 2013 Nexus 7 32gb WiFi running stock Android 4.4, not rooted or modified in any way.
I am seeing a problem when trying to view photospheres in the gyro mode (both in Google+ and the stock gallery) and when trying to create them in the stock camera app. When trying to view photospheres the pictures sort of tilts over to the side and rotates continuously, when trying to create them the app shows that my Nexus is tilted roughly 45° to the left even though it is straight up and down.
Questions is what is causing this, bad gyro calibration perhaps? If so is there any way to recalibrate it?
Also, I haven't noticed any problems anywhere else, though I'm not sure whether or not I actually use anything else that utilizes the gyro.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Photos show rotated when taken as portrait

Hello all,
So I've searched for this issue before, and while I've found others that have the same problem, nobody seems to have found a solution.
The issue is that when I take a picture in portrait mode, and then either try to MMS or send to my PC, the photos end up rotated on their side. I noticed that when I open my camera, it looks like my phone is rotating to landscape. I have tried resetting auto screen rotation, but no luck. Anyone have any idea about a solution to this? My wife's S3 does the same thing so others MUST have the same problem, I'd assume. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Just take photos in landscape. They come out looking normal. It's a known bug. I don't think there's a setting to change it.
Since i rooted and flashed new kernel and rom never happened again

this happens when i have Auto Rotate function turn off. I just turn it back on and everything is back to normal.
I didn't know that about auto rotate.
How many articles have been written about the pitfalls of taking pictures in portrait? Just don't do it

[Q] Sideways pictures?

I did a quick search and didn't find anything about this problem, but if this question has been asked before, I apologize.
Anyways, When I take pictures in portrait mode they show up fine on the device, but they are rotated sideways if they are viewed on the computer. I also experience this issue about every 4th time I share a portrait photo on Twitter. I know I can rotate each photo individually on the computer, but that is a pain.
Is there anyway to fix this?
Also, it isn't phone specific because I had the same problem on my Epic 4G Touch.
Having the same issue when trying to upload to Instagram. Could really use some help on this 1. Didn't have problem until I came to jellybean. I'm stock unrooted

Instagram has a rotate button once you crop the picture.
I've always had this problem with 2 Samsung Galaxy phones.
I went through and manually rotated each portrait photo on my computer today to upload to Snapfish.
I hope there is a solution to this.
Yea I know about the rotate button on Instagram. Even though I use that it still uoads sideways. I just decided to take all pictures in Landscape.

Seems like it would be a format/read issue that would need an extensive rewrite of the code to fix. The camera is probably taking the pics as you see them on the computer and the phone is reframing them as instucted from when the pic is taken. Have you tried placing pics from your computer onto your phone that are turned 90º clockwise?
I was having the same issue but it you take all the pics in "Landscape" mode where the camera button is to the right, they come out fine and upload fine as well. Portrait mode is set to landscape as well. Sucks but that is how it is.

That's what I've been doing for 2 months now. Haha.

Wallpaper changing sizes with orientation

Hi all,
I just actually ugpraded to the new Nexus 7 last night from the original, and it's fantastic except for one thing. When I set a wallpaper, it looks fine. Until I change screen orientation to landscape, and then back to portrait. It has then zoomed in and I have to reset the wallpaper again. This means that every time I turn it sideways, I have to reset the wallpaper. It upgraded to 4.4.2 as soon as I booted and connected to the wifi.
Is this a problem that anyone is familiar with fixing?
EDIT: well, I WAS going to post pictures except I'm apparently unable to do so until I've posted 10 times. That is slightly frustrating, hopefully people know what I'm talking about without seeing it.
The only "Fix" I've been able to figure out is to lock the orientation, but that doesn't help when I want to watch a video using plex or something. Hopefully someone might have some insight as to how to fix this.
Thanks in advance!
-Nick
I noticed the same issue on mine.

You need to disable wallpaper scrolling

Slow/unreliable gps lock and wonky compass

Anyone else have issues getting gps lock? It will take me several minutes with a clear view of the sky sometimes. If I'm sitting in the back seat of a car I often have to press my phone right up to the window to get a good enough view of the sky and it will lose lock if I take it away from the window.
Also, the compass is all over the place and makes things like gaps walking directions almost useless.

Are youon kitkat? If so, Pls check the 4.4.2 update thread in the general forum where we have a new stock image with fixed gps and battery. See if it applies to your case.
I've noticed the wonky compass. It will vary wildly without any rotation of the phone and, in one orienration, will flip back and forth by 180 degrees very quickly. Thought about warrantying the device, but everything else (including GPS) is solid.
I'm on 4.3.

I have to calibrate the compass occasionally but it works fine for me. GPS normally licks in 10secs or so, but I keep GPS on all the time. It only uses power when you are using an app that uses it.

ive had a compass gps issue for a good while. thought it was the rom, then thought it could have been the case....but im thinking its just happening because i get same performance from jedi's 4.4 release....so not sure what the deal is but same issues....they gave me a gps fix that tends to kinda work.....but its not tracking fluidly and the compass just isnt staying calibrated for very long...its always looking in a different direction.....
Download and install topNTP from the play store give it root access click install at the bottom select create files and reboot.
I use this app after every rom I flash and it gives me a gps lock in literally a couple of seconds even indoors.

My Note 3 doesn't lock on to GPS inside my house at all. Outside, it seems okay, most of the time.
My old HTC Dinc2 locks on without any trouble, inside or out. Not sure if I should do an exchange, since everything else works just fine.

Rotation on homescreen not fully working.

Hello everyone. I've had my Nexus 7 for quite a while and i cant remember when this even started to happen.
My nexus refuses to rotate to the correct way standing up, with the camera ON TOP. It rotates, sometimes slow to react, but fine to all the other ways i turn it.
Here's 4 pictures of Check my Android: http://imgur.com/a/h34D4
I must admit...mine to does this. I switched back to fully stock and it still does it. I'm in deeper waters though - app updates fail a LOT on me and even 5.1.1 ota won't flash without failing. I'm about done with this tablet.
