hi every1,
my 3 contract runs out next month and i am thinking about getting the MDA Compact III.
My question is about co-pilot that comes with the t-mobile UK bundle. I was wondering if was able to get hold of the installation cd's from somewhere ... can i install it on my empty memory card
are there any serial numbers or anything that i might need?
//edit
just another question to add. anyone with the co-pilot bundle. i went to a t-mobile shop today to ask them about a similer question. worded differently tho lol. seem to have answered my question. the co-pilot bundle does come with original installation cds for you to re-install them on your mem card. ;-)
but the women said that the co-pilot bundle comes with an antenna that plugs into the back of the phone. now im wondering
1) is this really needed? bcoz i thought the GPS was in-built????
2) wot type of antenna would i need? and how much do they cost?
thanks,
Snoop
Ive ordered a compact III without the copilot bundle. from reading other peoples reviews, they have installed software such as tomtom on the pda and it worked successfully. Hence im pretty sure you dont need any sort of antenna. Interesting to know what they meant?

Sounds interesting.
Maybe they include an RDS antenna to get live traffic updates??
Can anyone confirm this?
hi guys,
regarding this external antenna. please read below. found it on this website http://htcphonestore.com/review.asp?itemMDL=HTC_P3300
GPS Navigation
One of the best features of the Artemis is the integrated GPS. With a built in GPS Sirf-Star III chipset, navigation was seamless. The unit comes bundled with TomTom 6, and included in your purchase is the ability to download one free city-map. Additionally, there is an external antenna port on the back of the unit which enables you to achieve better satellite reception. More on the GPS capabilities in Part II.
just need to find out what type it is. maybe some with the manual can have a read through and tell us. if under there accessories section they mention anything.
thanks,
snoop
found this description about a Bluetooth GPS antenna?
http://www.yourkindamobile.co.uk/upgrades2_orange.asp?Phone=2036&Network=T-Mobile
Includes Co-Pilot GPS navigation which gives you spoken and on-screen turn instructions, satellite positioning, address-level street map, ETA and distance remaining, detour around traffic and 2D or 3D display with night mode. Bluetooth GPS antenna included.

If you really think you need an external aerial for the GPS unit in your device (which I doubt to be honest) have a search for the part number 36H00352-00M it transpires that the same aerial was supplied for the I-Mate PDA-n, you can purchase one from http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=129590 (at least I can improve the reception on my PDA-n now I know that! and I have found a use for the external GPS aerial that was supplied with my Arte) - Mike
To confirm guys...
I opened the box to an MDA III co-pilot and the package contains:
Software
Moulded Car Holder (Windscreen Sucker)
Car charger for MDA
No GPS antenna and no Bluetooth receiver. This product retails at 169.99 compared to 199.99 with the GPS bluetooth receiver (Vario, Vario 2 etc...)

wwwhoooo thanks treblechance. thanks for confirming, must mean the shop assisant meant that you can BUY one extra. like the one pointed out by mikealder. because i know a friend who has one of those navman pda's and he is using an external attenaa to boost the signal. and simply plugs in the back, similar place to what the shop assisstant showed me.
looks like i what need to buy the copilot bundle after all SAVING me a bundle of $$$ hehe
thanks everyone for the help.
If you have the hardware and only need the GPS software try using it first with the inbuilt GPS, don't go wasting money on the external GPS aerial, the receiver in the Artemis is very good without re-course to an external feed. If you have a car with Athermic coated glass you might experiance a signal drop but even so I would try it first and it should be fine with just the device on its own - Mike
ye good point mike. thats what some of my friends said. thanks

TomTom on the MDA Compact III? Anyone used one?
Hi all,
I am in the process of getting tmobile mda iii compact without the bundled co-pilot but tmobile call centre said it wouldn’t work but I’m very taken with tom tom.
So I am seeking information from anyone that has actually pulled it off.
This is because I would like to know if there are any negatives involved and what.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanx

hi,
i think they may be right. i tried getting co-pilot to work on my mda but wasnt having any of it. so i gave up in the end. i think the only way you can install it is using some kind of auto install file that is on the memory that is provided when you buy the bundle.
as for tom tom. i have managed to get that working just prefect. i tried it inside my house wasnt getting a very good signal. stepped outside...and hey presto 11 signals picked up. i havnt done full test of it i.e. driving from my house to another location. but it seemed to work fine when i did a small walk around my local area.
hope that helps.

i have a question about copilot's installation. Does anyone know where the license file is installed. I had copilot installed on one device and copied files onto another device thinking that would save me download time. Anyway now it keeps picking the licensing info from the previous device. I have tried uninstall and reinstall but that did not help. If someone could help me with resetting the licensing info so I can register the software with the new key. Thanks.
Hello to All
I have seen many people search for the answer to the question I have, does our MDA CIII have WLAN or not?
There is an extensive thread on that topic, with no real conclusion, so i thought i open a new one, and throw some new ideas and questions into the room.
First of all:
I own a Arte110 i was one of the first ones to get it in Austria, i bought it right when it hit T-mobile stores on the 02.11, back then the Austrian webpage advertised it has WLAN, the German webpage never claimed that, so when i was standing in the store i asked once more, and the guy said no WLAN, in that moment i didnt think much, since the device was very nice, and there was no alternative for me, since my other phones was stollen a couple of days before, and i was in a hurry to get a new mobile.
Well now i do miss WLAN, and i am trying everything to get to it
I checked the dutch page yesterday, it still says WLAN, can it be that T-mobile doesnt supply some of its biggest markets (German, Austria) without WLAN, but it does so in the Dutch market. It doesnt even make sense to buy two different pieces of HArdware when they order in masses.
SO how come we dont get WLAN and they do! And seemingly some dutch friends have confirmed their devices have WLAN. I am planing to confront T-mobile Austria on that and see what they say, did any one do that already?
Further i tried talking up HTC, but they didnt help much, told me to go talk to t-mobile.
Now a question to the technical guys around, being an Electronic Engineer myself, i am very interested in playing around to get this WLAN mystery solved, so i am in the search of following things:
a. Any one take one of these things appart?
b. Any way to get our hands on infromation concearing wireing, chipsets, and the inside of the device? I found this italian website which had a block diagram of the new HTC 4000-something model, it would be nice to have something like that for our MDA, would solve many questions.
c. What type of USB does our device have, is it client only or does it also support host? if so we would work out an external solution! That would be great if it would support host function, specialy for all other kind of applications.
d. Any idea where we could get such info from
Thanks to all
And dont give up until we have a prove that the Hardware for WLAN is missing in our devices!
The extensive thread you refer to has most of the answers to your questions, I think, on the penultimate page. The outfit who unlocked the phone said it wasn't an Artemis model (the United Kingdom MDAIII enquired about and similar to the German/Austrian I believe) but a Hero and it didn't have wireless lan.
They also said the Artemis and Hero looked cosmetically identical but were different inside...
I must admit that I find it strange that the Dutch went for the Artemis model and the others the Hero. You would have thought that the entire European operation would have made a bulk purchase.
well i have still no information on the USB?

Afaik it's client only... though I'm not completely sure.
We should really find out, cuz if its a full functioning USB, one could try getting a WLAN to work on it externally.
I must say i still have hopes of having the hardware inside...these dutch people, why do they get WLAN? i dont understand. They should help us out with a ROM...it would be redicoulus if T-mobile only supplied them with WLAN (no offense i like holland, but still this gets me mad)
I will contact T-mobile tomorrow and have a word with them!
If the USB is only a client, how is hte antenna recognized via USB?
I don't think, that the antenna has to be recognized as a "Device"... It is just a cable, that is connected to the right Pins in the USB Connector. A normal FM Radio surely does not recognize the Antenna as a device, almost any cable can do the job if connected to the Antenne Input of the Radio....At least i'd say
ok explanation taken...i was hoping for a bit more hightec...but that goes too...(and is absolutly right).
So no one around her believes that the USB could also be a host?
The Omap850 can handle usb on-the-go. See here: http://focus.ti.com/general/docs/wt...lateId=6123&navigationId=12000&contentId=4679
German USB-On-The-GO Description (german): http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/23696
We can also see that wlan a/b/g is on chip but wth is wiLink?! or mWLAN.
greets
THIS IS great, thanks...I was looking for a block diagramm...now lets look what the chip can do...
Thanks
Ok i figured what the WiLink is, and its sounds really good for us, since it seems to be part of the MDAC III architecture:
"WiLink™ 5.0 platform is the industry's first solution that integrates mobile WLAN (mWLAN), Bluetooth® and FM stereo audio all in a space-saving platform for mobile phones."
Sounds like the functionality of our MDAC III, only that Austria/German/UK doesnt have the GOD DAMN WLAN activated (i hate you dutch guys... )
SO now following question, if the WLAN is intergrated on the OMAP, it cannot be removed by HW...but only be deactivated via firmware. The question is now, does the OMAP need some co-processor to make use of WLAN, or only an antenna, now if it needs an antenna, then it could well be that Tmobile removed this Antenna!
I will do further technical research on this
it does seem to miss integrated WLAN: "54-Mbps WLAN interface" i think when they talk of interfaces, the only mean it supports some WLAN chip to work with it...
Hmm, you can see that that WiLink/mWLAN stuff is not on chip. It's some external circuit which possibly does not exist on our mdac3. Though... proove me wrong and we are best friends

Fixed... No wonder no one had replied. Thanks
I won't lie, I've been trying to install several pirated version of it today. And it just doesn't seem to work. The closest of my attempts has been when TomTom opened up then asked for configurations then told me TomTom is not compatible with this device. Sigh. Gladly I didn't go out a buy it before trying it.
And what makes you think that a paid product will not work, just for trying it's pirated version???
I'm no saint, also tried out several pirated GPS software, AFTER I bought R66.
R66 always performed to the standarts, while all the others gave some kind of problem. I succed to make some work, but it's just too much trouble... for me, anyway.
I would advice to question the software development houses, regarding compatibity issues with your device, just to be on the safe, but I don't see why a comercial, legal version would not work correctly.

I agree, but you can bet your ass im not shelling out that much to find out it doesn't work. I've tried several TT6 and TT5, and for some reason it says not compatible for this device. I will take your word on it though and take TT6 into consideration with Route 66 Mobile 7.
Vmiguel, do you have R66 Mobile 7 on a Dash? I've been looking at buying this. Also If you do, I read that it comes with MiniSD/SD but the Dash uses Micro SD. Are you able to install from the DVD to micro sd?
Im particularly looking for a good GPS Software that I can download online and pay for. But if I have to I can order it.
TomTom 6
I've been trying to locate TomTom6; however, I can't seem to find it anywhere. Amazon says "Coming Soon" -- as does the tomtom.com website. Is this product available in the U.S. yet (European version seems to be shipping, though...)
Also, does the bluetooth receiver included in the package need an external power source, or is it battery powered?
The online materials don't mention compatibility with the T-Mobile Dash specifically...
Thanks!

Yeah, I noticed you could order TomTom 5 from TomTom.com but TomTom 6 didn't have a purchase option.
I already have a bluetooth GPS receiver, so I am seriosuly thinking I might just order Route 66 Mobile 7 WMS.
If you guys know of any other compatable GPS software please post it.
Copilot Live
Has anyone tried Copilot Live? I read some reviews that seemed to recommend the product -- and it's a lot easier to find than Route 66.
Also, anyone have some thoughts in general about using a smartphone (such as our beloved Dash) for GPS navigation as opposed to just buying a dedicatd unit?
Thanks!
Another GPS Question...
Here's one more question. Can all of these packages be installed on a Micro SD card and run from there? Or does the main app have to be installed in phone memory? It seems these apps take a significant amount of space (6 Megs for Copilot Live, 16 Megs for Route66, etc.), so it would be a shame to be forced to install them in phone memory...
Thanks!
I'll get my Excalibur in couple of hours and will post some impressions and screen shots.

I HAVE TO APOLOGIZE TO ALL.
TomTom does not work on Smartphone. It installs fine, but then there is no possibility to pick correct com port and keyboard pressing does not correspond properly.

Nice, but no North America maps...
mapopolis
I like mapopolis. It has GPS support, street-by-street driving instructions (with voice prompt), business and place-of-interest look up, etc.
So, if you're wondering in and about a different neighborhood, you can click on the businesses and it will give you their telephone number/location, etc. You can also look up driving directions via address (like mapquest) etc.
It's works great for the pocket PC -- smartphone (like the dash) i suspect is so-so. I've used it on the mx220, and without a touch screen it's just O.K.
The cons would be their web site interface. You pay $99 for unlimited downloads of individual counties in regions of the United States. Since a state like California has 58 counties, (58 separate maps) that's a lot of downloading time. They have an option to just buy an SD card with all the maps on it, but the dash doesn't use SD. (plus it costs more).
However the pros: Trial download. (I think 10 days?). Give it a shot, see if you like it, it uninstalls pretty nicely too.

they don't seem to be very popular

good idea
Just bought mine a week ago from StarHub (the official retailer for galaxy beam).
I second the subforum idea. How about starting a google group as well since the community is so small.
For those who wish to purchase the phone:
You need to place a reservation at StarHub Center before making the purchase. It takes about a week before your phone is ready for collection.
I was lucky enough to get it immediately because someone cancelled his reservation.
waiting for mine, deseperatly ....
i'll check with Admins and Sr Mods to see if they want to create a new forum for it
That's great! Thanks man.
nocomp: you may try bugging their hq at cuppage road. They might just have an extra handset lying around like mine. Haha
i ve bought it from a local shop in singapore, they were agree to send it to me to france.
still waiting for the delivery...... the singapore post tracking service, isn t much alive since 2 days......
i guess that ll be a change from my nexus, what i am pissed of, is that you can t use an app that use camera and projector in the same time
it seems that what has to be done, (part of find a way to upgrade it to froyo):
get gps working when projector is on
get projector working when camera is on
can you tell me if the galaxy beam has also the tv out like galaxy s?
best regards
herve
I have some bad news for you. Samsung has officially stopped software support for that device last month and said there's no plans for official froyo for it as there's just not enough beams out there to warrent the support as it was only sold in Singapore and very small numbers. They now have all development on tablet and galaxy s models. Google for more info. I read that last month someplace

bad news, impossible to install an application from android market :'(
never happend before with the nexus, i get the message "unable to download" either i am in wifi or 3g
any idea why?

Hmm never had a problem with market. Have you tried replacing the stock market app with a generic one from ipmart? Perhaps it's locked down to Singapore or something.

hi,
well i ve took sim card off n sdcard off, and then it was working over wifi.
put the simcard back again and market was working.
no idea wtf happend.
hi,
how can i know what software update is current?

can t find in the setting menu the update section
thx for your help
btw i ve found this, anybody tried it?

My phone is running the same firmware version as yours. It's released on 1 Sept which is more recent than the July version on that blog.
hi,
thx for the news, so if there is an update it ll appear in the "about" section right?
do you know any trick/tweak for allow to run gps when using projector?
herve
Probably, but I doubt there will be any more updates since the beam is not getting froyo. Hopefully I'm wrong...
I'm not aware of any tricks but if you have the time and expertise try editing the source code? Haha I'm no expert either.
Hi all,
Anybody know if it's possible to use any other phone battery inside swift(1), LG or Samsung or any other brand?
Or if it's possible to repackage this type of battery?

Still, I'm kind of curious to know if they shipped a phone to South Africa in the first place?

got my phone originally though the orange store SA, but as that's closed up, officially there is no support locally for this phone,
makes trying to find batteries locally a bit of a chore.
and why im asking if there is something else that might also work, like a generic, or compatible?
we do have a representative of STK (who brought out wileyfox) locally, but not sure if they might be able to help?
but first prize, would be a samsung or other battery that would fit perfectly.

Finding batteries anywhere in the world - even in their home UK market - is like searching for hens teeth; Wileyfox lost their way very shortly after their debut a couple of years ago (and long before their collapse and buy-out by STK). Just Google Kazam too.
WF have tried to kill-off the Swift first and foremost amongst their 1st gen range - they hate this phone especially for some reason. They promised a spare battery for general sale but an ongoing supply just never materialised. Indeed a couple of batches at most were brought to market but snapped up very quickly - and that was that. Since then WF maintain radio silence on this subject as is attested to on their Facebook page.
There are some available on eBay or aliexpress, frequently under the part numbers in the previous post. This is because the Swift is a rebadge of an Android One phone hailing from the far east.
