A while ago I read a comment somewhere saying that the glass could get loose/detaches itself slowly.
Now I got my Galaxy Nexus (Amazon Warehouse Deals "like new") and I noticed that the screen budges a little at the upper part.
I searched but I couldn't find any mention of something like this anywhere. Maybe I used the wrong keywords.
Is this a known problem?
Oh, and just a secondary issue:
Is there any way to actually buy something from the amazon appstore from outside the US? The "normal" amazon happily sells me downloads when I enter a fake US adress but it doesn't seem to work with apps.
well obviously the phone you have had the screen replaced, if they dont wanna fix that for free, id seach for a video on youtube on how to do it myself
Not sure if this is what you're referring to, but there was a fairly active thread in the Q&A section about the adhesive failing in the corners of the screen, causing one side of the glass to "lift" from the frame. I'd try to get it replaced.
That's not normal and shouldn't be happening.
That's like saying you heard that there are car manufacturers which have certain models where the wheels fall off. That is a critical hardware failure that I would try getting replaced. It's not acceptable for you to need to worry about your screen coming off, especially if there's been no neglect.
Mine is sturdy as hell and it looks like a fantastic and beautiful piece of hardware. If mine had any defects I'd call in to get it swapped right away. Hope it works out well!

Guess that could be it.
Seems like I don't have luck with this phone. The first "like new" Nexus I bought had a deep scratch on the glass. And the Bootloader was unlocked.
Guess amazon doesn't inspect their returns too closely.
Oh, and what's the deal with this fortified glass? There are countless people reporting that they don't use any protection at all but still have a scratch free screen after weeks. While I already have 2 light scratches after barely 24 hours. I don't even know how this could have possibly happened.
It was either in it's pouch or in my hands.
Other people stab that thing with a knife and nothing happens while I get 2 scratches just by looking at it...
Hi dear
Just wonder do you know what is made the front glass of this device?
Do we really need the screen protector?
Is it gorilla glass?

Glass?
anyone? information?
No screen protection, according to GSM Arena... But being that they didn't get the resolution correct in their specs (1920 x 1080 instead of 2560 x 1600), not sure if I would trust their info completely. Other sites are saying it uses Gorilla Glass 3.
http://www.handheldwar.com/samsung/samsung-galaxy-note-10-1-2014-edition-full-specifications/
Samsung also just purchased an additional 7.4% stake in Corning (maker of Gorilla Glass), so its a pretty safe bet to assume all premium Samsung mobile devices use Gorilla Glass.
http://www.androidcentral.com/samsung-acquires-74-percent-share-gorilla-glass-maker-corning
That being said, I always use screen protectors even with Gorilla Glass, as it is scratch "resistant" not scratch proof. I have a few different protectors coming in this week. Going to test them all with the S Pen and will be sure to post my findings.
Thanks a lot in assume that your replay will b helpful to others as well

Personally, I do not use a screen protector on a tablet and will not use one on this device. I do use one on all of my smartphones. For me, it is two drastically different use cases. My smartphone is in and out of pockets, in car holders, can be dropped easily, often used while walking, etc. For me, the tablet is much different. I am typically using the tablet while sitting down and when I'm done the case cover goes back over the screen and it sits. I just don't see the need like I do for a smartphone. I find that it really detracts from the experience on a tablet, especially with the S Pen.

Wait until you drop your tablet, yes, I've done it (on a Note 8.0), and the case and screen protector saved it.
I am sure that dropping it is a possibility. All I am saying is that my use of the tablet is much different than my use of a smartphone and therefore it is a risk I'm willing to take. I still use a case. I am not sure how you know that a screen protector had anything to do with saving the device when you dropped it. For me, the reduction in usability and screen clarity is greater than the risk of damage. Personal preference.

Please. The point I was making, assuming you are talking about the glass not breaking, was how would you know that it would have broken without the protector on? If you were talking about a scratch that is obviously something different.

Since you weren't there, and haven't seen my Note, don't you think you should give me the benefit of the doubt? No matter, it's not worth arguing over, think what you want.

I understand your point, but my usage adds a certain twist to the equation... kids. I have 3 (soon to be 4) under the age of 6. They do occasionally get a hold of the tablet, and the protectors are well worth it.
The screen protector I used on my Note 8 didn't inhibit the S Pen at all, and I'm hoping the ones that should be here this week will work just as well.

i prefer not having a protector on mine also, but they do offer some advantages.
one is that they don't show smudges as much (at least the anti glare don't).
another, is that if you do crack your screen you won't have to worry about shards.
and third is (obviously) scratches.
given that these are pen input devices, getting a grain of sand or other hard material stuck on the tip is easier than you'd think. there are quite a few people scratching their notes (all variants) just from penning and not realizing the nibs have been contaminated.
i may end up getting a protector later b/c once you see a scratch you can't unsee it, lol.
The screen protector saved my phone... and my wallet.

A friend of mine broke her Galaxy S3. It had a screen/scratch protector on it. The guys at the local mobile store I got the phone repaired at, told me that the protector held together the shattered pieces of glass and also prevented that glass from damaging the LCD underneath. It helped them save the LCD underneath and made the whole process of putting a new glass much simpler.
Cost me only a 1000 rupees, which is about $16.
In Google's launch day blog post, it stated that both the front display and the back glass are constructed from 2.5D Corning® Gorilla® Glass 4.
There seems to be a large number of people who have received their devices complaining that the back glass scratches surprisingly easily, and a number of reviews (both written and video) cite the same, such as shown in JerryRigEverything's video review at 1:44.
This has me concerned that we're not actually getting Gorilla Glass 4 for the back glass, or if we are, it may be a defective batch. I'll be the first to proclaim my lack of knowledge on the stuff, but shouldn't the actual hardness, i.e. resistance to scratching, be the same regardless of shape, thickness, etc? I could easily understand a difference in brittleness if it is thinner, for example, but these reports have me concerned.
Any thoughts?
well i case my phones right away and have never had any scratches on the back of my phones .... jump to today i too my pixel out of my otterbox defender case to return the case for a slightly thinner case and guess what the back glass has a scratch in it that wasn't there before it went in, i checked the inside of the case and couldnt find anything that would have done that. not a big deal since its going back in a case but im a little ocd so it does bother me a bit that its there
Yeah I had heard the same thing in some reviews.
I can tell you first hand that it does seem to mark easily. I have two fine hairline scratches on the back on min. I assume from keys in my pocket.
I have been using it without a case because I can't seem to find one I like. They all seem too bulky.
My front glass also has a tiny mark on it, from a key I assume. My Note 7 had the same thing within days as well. First time in the last several phones that have gotten scratches in the glass. I either have a really hard and sharp new key or the properties of the glass has changed. I know that impact resistant does not mean scratch resistant. Take a look at the Moto Z force to find that out! For what it is worth I do not think you are alone.
I understand that scratch-resistant ≠ scratch-proof, but for those who prefer to carry a phone naked (I'm talking about the phone!) it would be a pretty big letdown to find out Google didn't provide the product as it advertised it, whether it be failure on part of someone responsible for final production spec letting the marketing group know if there were a change in the glass, an issue of Corning sending the wrong glass, a defective production run, etc.
I suppose my concern is that if there is, as there appears to be, some legitimate issue, they 'fix' it with later production runs and ship the phone with glass to spec going forward, with my only recourse being to deal with it or maybe have them replace it with what would likely be a refurbished phone, either event seriously deteriorating the phone's residual value down the road should I choose to sell it.
Just putting it out there, I have Google Clear cased my phone from new, and I a few small marks now. Assume it's bits caught in the case.

I cringed twice while reading this. I too carry my phone in my left pocket, which is exclusive. I don't even stick my hand into the pocket if my hand is dirty. I also don't wipe off the screen on my shirt. Sand is a killer!
Also on that note higher number Corning Gorilla glass doesn't necessarily mean it's "better" more resistant..

I completely agree with you. I had hoped to carry the phone without a case since it was't as slippery as the all glass Samsung.
I usually keep it in its own pocket but not a particular one, its a product of having your hands full put the keys in the same pocket long enough to walk to the door. I try to keep it separate, but screw it up from time to time. Like with gym shorts, does it go with the magnetic money clip or the keys? Keys don't go with the magnet bc I don't want to kill the battery in my truck remote.. Talk about 1st world problems

I don't think magnets mess with batteries but if that were true the magnet would mess with your phone's battery plus its internal components
Whitestone Dome just released a replacement screen protector for the inner folding display, which they advertise as the genuine Samsung film. It comes in a one-pack for $20 plus shipping on their site, or $18 with free Prime shipping on Amazon. It includes a jig to help with alignment and they advertise a bubble free installation.
Just thought I'd mention it for those looking to replace their inner screen protector, but want the original film (which in my opinion is fantastic). But mine has picked up a few hairline scratches and I may replace it soon.

In US at least it was clarified that removing it doesn't void the warranty. But if you damage the screen while removing it, it's not covered.
None of the display disassemble is easy on this model. You better know what you're doing, and have steady nerves and hands... and a near clean room environment be nice to have.
I have zero faith in Whitestone based on their lame of customer support and poor QC that I unfortunately witnessed myself.
OEM parts by Samsung certified repair center is the safest bet...
I just received my screen protector today from Amazon. I don't plan on installing it yet, as my factory screen protector is still in great shape with only a few surface scratches. I basically bought this out of curiosity and to have a back up if I need it.
Again, this is marketed as the genuine Samsung film, meaning it's the OEM replacement film for the ZF3. It comes with a jig to assure perfect alignment, and they advertise a bubble free installation. I can't attest to that since I haven't installed it, but a dust free environment would be ideal. No different than any other screen protector installation.
The film is the EXACT same size as the factory applied film. It is not the $90 UTG film that Whitestone originally marketed, which also seems to no longer be available on their site. I have no doubts about the quality. WSD has a great reputation amongst users here, and I'm currently using their EZ glass protector on the outer screen, and it's fantastic and was super easy to install.
As far as what @blackhawk said, you can safely ignore him and his comments. He has been trashing the ZF2 and the ZF3 since they were released, despite the fact that he's never owned either device and says he will never own them. He often makes false claims about the devices and Samsung in general. He is a troll that goes to different forums here just to trash talk devices. I actually have him on my ignore list, but his comments still appear sometimes. But he's just trolling this thread, too. He doesn't own this device, obviously has NO clue how to install a screen protector on it, and I doubt he has any experience with any WSD product.
There is NO disassembly of the display required at all. You're merely peeling the factory screen protector off. It does not require skill or nerves of steel. Simply watching a YouTube video will show you how easily the factory film is removed. Obviously you can always go to a Samsung certified repair shop like UBreakIFix or Best Buy, but this is the genuine film and can easily be installed at home. Run the shower, steam up your bathroom to knock dust out of the air, and just be patient and careful. Same method I've used for years to install all different types of screen protectors.
This video shows installation of WSD Silk UTG screen protector, but the jig and installation for the genuine film is identical. As you can see, it's pretty straightforward.

How many can you repeat yourself, weak sauce?
Me not owning this device doesn't change the materials or design of it... unfortunately.
By all means show us how well your do it self repair went. You probably should have got two, you'll need the practice.
Someone who has done dozens of them knows the tricks you don't. They get paid to learn by their failures, do you?
You'll be looking at every day for hours, that's why you pay a skilled tech to do it.
Anyone can buy 2 quarts of urethane car paint, the trick is putting it on.

No problem at all! Shower works a treat for minimizing dust in the air. I run te shower and the faucet on hot. When the mirror steams up, you should be good.
Pretty cool that this is available. Unfortunately, I haven't had much luck with Whitestone on my N20U and Fold2. Fortunately, still no scratches on either factory screen protector. My Fold3 is a first release device and I use the s pen multiple times per day. I am very happy with my inner screen experience this go around. Mine still feels like actual glass.
On a side note, I'm really happy to see the Fold3 getting more love with the accessories than the Fold2 did. Makes me hopeful that the line itself has gained popularity and with what to expect with the 4th iteration.

I'm sorry but why people take critique of a devices or companie so personal? In my opinion i don't care if it's Apple or Samsung or any other producer. What counts is the quality and the hardware plus the service. If all 3 criterias are given i will buy there product. Regarding the ZFold 2 and 3. This devices are a expensive jokes. If i can damage a display while taking off a screen protector, or by pressing a little to hard with my nail it's rubbish. If the display creates a ugly white line with dead pixels by itself, where the crease is and Samsung has the audacity to say it's costumer induced damage one can only shake his head. If you buy the 2k mobile and after 2-3 openings the display cracks, i can only shake my head and say what we're they thinking. This technology is totally unreliable and basically useless. Keep babying your fragile mobile and hope Samsung has mercy on your soul when the display goes bye bye. On ebay are many zflips and zfolds with exactly the damage i described. Sure compared to the millions sold, not all will show this flaw. But all are prone to be damaged by anything as hard as a fingernail.

I see your point. This phone is NOT for everyone. I would not even consider getting this for my son. No, it would not last. He can juggle phone and tablet. For me, who does NOT "baby" my phone, but don't abuse it as well, it's great. A friend who works construction thought about it and I talked him out of it because of his work environment, this phone would not hold up.
Calling this device a "joke", I think is not right and just going to show how narrow your view on new tech really is. It's "Bleeding Edge" and most of us that bought this are okay with having to be a little more careful with our device because of the new tech and the delicacy of the first few generations of a device of this type.
All in all, everyone is going to have different views and attitudes to new tech. If you have no interest here, hijacking a thread to bash on a device is just childish. If you don't like this device, have no interest in it, well, do the smart thing, stay out of the forum for the phone and it won't cause you any issues regardless of what someone posts here.
Just my perspective.

So this thread is about a genuine inner screen protector. There's a general discussion about the phone in another thread. But I will say almost everything you just said is completely untrue. And Ive used both the ZF2 and ZF3 as daily drivers and I don't baby them at all.
I don't take anyone's opinions personally. At all. I don't give AF what phone you like, don't like, use, don't use. I just get frustrated when I come here to help other users and get help, then people like you hijack threads with misinformation and just trash talk a device you've never used, and know nothing about. If you have to lie about a phone to discourage others from using it, or justifying why you don't like it, then you're obviously the one taking it personal.
So take your opinions and misinformation to the general discussion thread. Please and thank you.

I agree completely and that is the last I will say about this...
Now, back to the OP.
I watched install vids for the $90 trash they had out before and it looked daunting, at best. Does this one have the same installation?

Well, I am not sure I am skilled enough to get this installed. I would have to see if my Bro can do it if and when I need one. That dude has installed more WDS protectors that anyone I know (in the hundreds).

It actually looks pretty straight forward. There's no liquid adhesive on this. It's a dry install. It comes with a jig that lines everything up and you just press it down with a squeeqee. I posted a link to a video showing the installation earlier in the thread.
I ost my Note 10+ a few days ago, a first for me. I immediately considered it found and stolen as I could see the person who found it via GPS, driving about the area where it fell off of my truck. So after two unanswered calls to said phone? I immediately wiped it and so at least my very minor personal data is secured. Whomever it as, *did* happen to get a very extensive, 40,000+ file .flac/.mp3 library on my spare SD Card but that's quite redundantly maintained/backed up so no real loss.
I immediately bought an exact replica of the lost Note 10+ from the same great seller as before, an ebay "excellent" condition refurb. The phone was here in 2 days then a quick visit to the local ATT store and I'm now back in business as usual, taking literally about 20 minutes to have the exact same phone/usage apps/settings and basically a Note 10+ set up precisely as my former phone had been. This is a relative topic with most users, myself included, as each of us may more or less appeciate any given app or feature ... but for me? Google sync and restore is a metaphorical Golden Unicorn(tm) lol.
But to my main question...
How can I determine if the Samsung default screen protector/film is installed on this new "refurb."
The screen on this unit is flawless, having no discernable marks or scratches, not even of the micro variety. But I have noticed that the thumbprint sensor is quite more responsive than my previous Note 10+ which definitely had the stock screen protector as, over the years, it had began to bubble ever so slightly and in certain places.
I've examined the edges of the new screen at great length under more than ample lighting and with very good magnification equipment and can find no visible "seam" or otherwise around the edges and where one would expect to find such a seam for any phone panel that had one of those super thin, super transparent protectors installed.
I will say that I found the stock Samsung protector on my first Note 10+ to be quite good, as good as any of the "tempered glass" varieties I'd used with previous phones though after two years of fairly rough use, there were small areas appearing where the Samsung factory screen film was beginning to show it's natural limitations.
So any ideas short of close examination with a good light source and high quality magnifying glasses would be welcome. If I do determine it is completely lacking in the inclusion of the factory installed panel film/protector (only reason I can imagine is if the previous user had removed it) then I will of course want to begin researching an appropriate 3rd party option that works well while maintaining solid use of the fingerprint sensor...
So any tips would be welcome...
Thanks in advance,
Joel Harris
The front cam hole will likely have a cut out in the screen protector if present. Slight seams are visible on one or more of the edges. Also the glass feels different than any plastic protector. Gorilla IQ Sheild is a good wet apply protector.

Most likely, Being a refurb with flawless screen, it probably had it's screen replaced and replacement screens don't ship with that Samsung factory screen protector on them. Most likely no screen protector in place

Thanks mate ...
Checked all the obvious variables and there's def no protector on the screen.
I found tons of "IQ Shield" variants on Amazon but none specifically made by Gorilla, which is a brand I tend to trust. Any further info?
In the interim, I bought this uber cheap but very well reviewed cheapo. If it works half as good as the reviews seem to indicate then it should be fine.
Thanks again ....

Get a couple, just in case. Things must be as dust free as possible ie spotless on the glass and room where applied. Don't touch the glass or back surface of the protector. Use enough of the fluid to get it aligned spot then work the air bubbles out. Watch it to make sure it stays adhered to the curve portions of the screen.
Just press and briefly hold if it lifts up. Use a little of the fluid if needed. If it ever lifts up on the sides later as long as no dust or dirt get under it, it can be reattached with a little water and pressing it down.
Leave it set up for at least a couple hours before using if possible. Mind the edges don't lift, usually after 10 minutes that's no longer an issue. Any small micro bubbles will be absorb in a few days... not big air bubbles though.
The Zizo Bolt is an excellent case for it.
That's all I use, zero damage in almost 3 years.
Enjoy, the Beast is a great phone!

Thanks for the detailed tips, friend. Much appreciated. But exactly what screen protector are you referring to? The originally mentioned "Q Shield" variant? Or the one I mentioned already ordering, which is the Apiker random find off of Amazon.
If you're referring to a specific brand/model of protector, be it of the "Q Shield" sort or otherwise? Please send me a link if your able to do so.
As it turns out? The randomly ordered Apiker kit I bought from Amazon based solely on user reviews alone, has turned out to be pretty okay. As with many such products, especially those for phones with curved edges, there really is value in going over some install videos and what not but the first application turned out pretty damn good.
The kit came with 4 of everything so for the money and the fact that 2nd and further applications would of course be more intuitive, makes it a decent value.
Also, the Apiker screen kit I bought is not tempered glass but some other sort of material but still has a decent feel overall. The main thing I like is the thumb sensor is still every bit as sensitive/responsive as it was when using the naked, glass screen.
But send me some info on the kit you were referring to that uses what you called "fluid" ... I'll get one of those too lol!
And yeah, mang. Note10+ FTW! Mine was stolen about a week ago .. only time I've ever lost it ... but it wasn't 20 minutes before I'd ordered a new "refurb" off Ebay which I'm currently using now.
I tend to always buy whatever the flagship Sammy was 3 or so years ago and always end up saving tons of money and being very happy with whatever that ends up being. I bought a 1 day temp new Galaxy A12 at the local ATT shop to use till the Note10+ replacement came in and the Note10+ processing speed is WAY better than the A12, which frankly was just a sluggish dog in comparison.
Thanks again for the info..
