I have purchased four tablets in the last month and returned all of them based on the lack of a general information placed in one spot on this forum, I put a lot of trust in xda the members and the developers here.
There will be over 30 new Tablet devices (worthy of talking about) this spring and summer, and I am sure there is a place here for such subcategory.
As usuall thanks for your consideration.
Wait - did I read this right... You returned tablets on the basis that you couldnt find info on them in one spot here?
What manf/models, if you dont mind my asking.
Did you find something lacking in the Hardware / OS?
Or just that you didnt think there was enough community support?

Don't get the wrong idea I'm not bashing xda, I love xda, My thought is that if there was some general discussion going on around here from our respected peers, I may have not bought some of the Tabs that I did... the huwaei sucked, the elocity doesn't get a whole lot of support (not sure why) the viewsonic gtab got me when I saw Calkuin on there, which was the best tab I tried, just didn't care for the 10" tab.
I think xda will be the new home of tab support...
I also am not sure about all of the models supported on here, as they are scattered all over the place because there is no place specifically for tabs to compare one against the other...

Facebook is buying Instagram, according to this post today from Mark Zuckerberg. The purchase price of $1 billion will be paid in cash and Facebook shares. From the blog post:
"This is an important milestone for Facebook because it’s the first time we’ve ever acquired a product and company with so many users. We don’t plan on doing many more of these, if any at all. But providing the best photo sharing experience is one reason why so many people love Facebook and we knew it would be worth bringing these two companies together."
Instagram rocketed to 30 million iOS users in 18 months and was named iPhone app of the year in 2011. It is one of the best apps for taking and sharing photos from the iPhone. Its square images and assorted image filters let anyone make retro, techno and pretty pictures out of mundane shots of their kids, pets, food. Instagram’s Android version, released last week, got millions of downloads immediately. But $1 billion, if true, is still a crazy number. Instagram doesn’t make any money. Nor did it say it was focusing on revenue. It is still chasing big users. Kevin Systrom, Instagram’s CEO, wrote this to calm down his users in response to the deal. An excerpt:
"It’s important to be clear that Instagram is not going away. We’ll be working with Facebook to evolve Instagram and build the network. We’ll continue to add new features to the product and find new ways to create a better mobile photos experience."
It’s not clear what the Facebook deal means for the Series B funding round that may have closed last week, led by Sequoia Capital, Thrive, Benchmark and Greylock at a reported $500 million valuation. But the fact that Facebook would pay 2x what the company was supposedly worth within a week’s time suggests this is a defensive move. Facebook has the money (almost $4 billion in cash on hand as of December 2011), and certainly isn’t desperate for more users, most if not all of whom are already on Facebook (which greatly influences the price-per-new-active-user Facebook is paying. See crude math below.)
Fred Wilson has said that Facebook is really about photos and this only underscores that. The mobile-social photo sector is still amorphously led but if anyone is harmed by this deal it is Yahoo. Facebook is really going after its Flickr property here, to put the nail further in Yahoo’s coffin. (To its discredit, Yahoo hasn’t done anything with Flickr lately). Zuckerberg is playing chess, making a defining move in how it stands in the photo space. It’s like what Google did with YouTube.
One problem this will solve for Instagram’s 30-something million users is that sharing an Instagram photo on Facebook from your phone pretty much sucks right now. Here comes the much needed integration: bigger photos, more detailed info about the filters, etc. Right now all you get when you post an Instagram photo on Facebook from your phone is a small link and a thumbnail image. A better integration will stimulate more sharing through Instagram.
But a $1 billion for 30 million users that pay nothing for the service? Sounds crazy but consider this: Instagram is getting bought for $33 per user. Facebook is supposedly trading with a market cap of close to $100 billion and has 850 million users, giving it a value of $117 per user. So it looks like a decent bit of funny-money arbitrage, using well-endowed Facebook shares to acquire users and solidify hold of a strategic asset at a lower valuation. We don’t yet know how much of the deal is in cash vs. stock, so this calculation could be less favorable sounding but it still makes sense with Facebook currency.

Great read on the Galaxy Nexus, thanks OP!
The ironic part is you whined about a post a couple hours ago being in the wrong section.

Its is a general topic, and the app is available on the Galaxy Nexus, there have been many posts about it here before. As for the thread you are referring to, it was a question marked with a "[Q]" and with a "?" at the end of it posted in the general section. I did no whining, I simply posted a link to the thread about questions belonging in the Q&A section. All these thread about should I buy X phone are in this General forum all the time, mine is more relevant to the SGN. Thanks for your interest.

Here's some more info about Instagram for ya. Yeah, i realise this is a link to the Apple store but it gives you a rough idea what the app is for and i suppose if you can also get it on the Gnex then there is a kind of a link in here somewhere, i mean, generally speakin'.

Yet another post that has absolutely nothing to do with the Galaxy Nexus…
Glad I can always count on the xda-developers community to fill the Galaxy Nexus forum with off-topic noise...

It belonged in general. It was an open-ended question to start off a discussion. Your post on the other hand is totally irrelevant. The irony is delicious though.
I'd recommend that we put Nexus devices into their own subforum. They've got their own family of products now. Sure, they're manufactured by different companies (Samsung, Asus, LG, HTC, etc.), but they're run and updated by Google. Using the current logic, most of the phones on this website would probably belong in a Foxconn subforum.
So, with a Google subforum, we'd have;
-Nexus One
-Nexus S
-Galaxy Nexus
-Nexus 4
-Nexus 7
-Nexus 10
I think if you post here it would be more appropriate and you get better chances of it happening..

OK it really simple why this is not a great idea. The hardware is also a big deal. Due to hardware diffs just because something works on one device it doesn't mean it will work on others. Had this been 5 years ago that would not have been a problem. With the current state of most users the forums would be filled with bricked device threads. Keeping them separated lowers the chance of this.

That can apply to any phone. The Galaxy S, Galaxy S II, and Galaxy S III all have different hardware. Yet, they all fall under Samsung.
All I'm saying is that the Nexus devices should be under Google (the company providing them direct support), and not under Samsung, Asus, LG, etc.

Google is only supplying software support. They still look to LG for hardware issues and that is how devices are grouped. By hardware OEM. When Google Makes a Nexus then it will go into a Google section. Until then they will go under the OEM that makes them.

The thing is... That's an end user view on this.
From a developer perspective, what matters more is who MADE it... Not who supports it. The Nexus S is a "google" phone according to this logic, but in reality it shares much more with other Samsung phones, and is more linked to those than it is to the Nexus one...
Same for all the other Nexii... The Optimus G and the Nexus 4 are basically the same phone, other than removable SD and locked bootloader. They have more in common than the Nexus 4 has with the other Nexii.

Take a look at my sig, I'm currently developing a forum for these devices and hope to build a nice community.
Seriously, this is one of the WORSE forums i've ever seen, when it comes to structure.
The content, on the other hand, is stupendous. Absolutely brilliant.
Back to the structure again. It's mildly unacceptable.
What beautiful mind came up with these 3 tabs ? "ALL DEVICES" "TOP DEVICES" and "NEWEST DEVICES" ??
Are we serious here? It's gruesome. Why do you guys keep them ?
Ok, let's say the answer is "we like them". Fair enough.
Let's try and search the forums. Holy crap, i have to scroll through a 2x2 list to find my device.
I'll have to blink my eyes SO FAST just to catch up a similar word to my device's name. Let it be
Samsung, Sony, Xperia, Nexus, Motorola or whatever you wish.
Guess what ? I did see the option "search subscribed forums" !! Very convenient...if only i could find out how to subscribe to one.
The structure of the forum looks like a tornado came by and put everything out of place.
Let's see...
General discussion (ok)
Marketplace (ok)
Drums rumbliing...
Windows 8
Windows Phone 7
Windows Phone 8
Windows Mobile
Android Developemnt
...
...
Ubuntu
Firefox (wtf ?)
Chef central (i'm a cook btw)
..
The stupidity begins
HTC Leo
Nexus
HTC Legend
Desire
Supersonic
SONY XPERIA X10
Samsung Captivate
blah blah
Motorola Droid 2
HTC Aria
Motorola Droid X
You get the point.
Why not keep 6 forums and make all the other sub-forums ?
In example
General
Marketplace
Windows ---> Inside this forum all the sub-forums
Samsung --> All Samsung stuff
Sony --- > All Sony stuff
Motorola ---> All motorola stuff
blah blah blah
This website LAGS like watching a movie shot at 1 FPS.
Maybe you can COMPILE a kernel for the website so it won't lag and give us a special button
to "Boost MyXDA" with "Browsing Mode" "Patience Mode" and "Quit Mode".
That's all i had to say. I really don't care if it will have any impact on any aspect of the website.
I'm just speaking my mind. It might look like an endless speech of flame but it is for the best.
Great content whatsoever and you are wasting it.
P.S: Excuse my poor English,as they're not my native language.
Thanks for your time.

I'm guessing you missed the little box that will take you straight to any device or the alternate layouts?

The way he came across may have seemed offensive, however, I consider this as constructive criticism.
Having designed several successful communities (I know.. every Tom, ****, and Harry think they're a web designer, but hear me out), I have to say I somewhat agree.. On one hand, there are some great features to deal with the organization problems, but on the other, it would take one admin about one day to reorganize the sub-forums without losing any data whatsoever. It's very simple to make your forum more organized, and all forum software I've worked with has that feature.
Nonetheless, as mentioned the forum's highlight is the amazing community, and the amazing content.. The forum works, so why mess with a good thing. *meh*

Yeah, I know, but as you said..its working, and has been for years. Agreed it may be a little unorganized but everyone's gotten used to it, so why change it?
Lol i'm still on the 2010 style.
I have to agree with the OP, the forums (layout wise) are an unorganized mess. The Galaxy S2 and S3 devices alone have like 10 different forums. Sure keep them separated but they should be sub-forums under a main S2 or S3 forum, same goes for other devices of course.
Thanks for the constructive criticism all, we welcome it!!
We actually put a ton of thought into the layout of the forum. We used to have it split up per manufacturer. Guess what, it doesn't make it any easier to browse the forum!
Most people look at one forum - and that is the forum for their device. They don't care about any other devices. We split up forums based on development. For example, the Verizon Samsung Galaxy SIII doesn't use the same roms or kernels as the AT&T Samsung Galaxy SIII. Don't blame us or the manufacturers, blame the carriers who make the manufacturers create their own specific versions of their phones.
The best way to find your forum for your device is to use the device search at the top, or the box next to it which will search the entire site. It is pretty good at finding the forum you are looking for when you type in the device name.
I agree that having 2 search boxes is sub-optimal. We have a plan to fix that, but as with most things, its never easy.
Regarding the page load times, a lot of that is out of our hands and caused by the ads. You can switch to the 1024 theme which has fewer ads and loads faster, or contribute enough that we remove the ads for you. We are also considering a paid subscription to remove the ads.
Hope that answers your questions, please keep the feedback coming!
I think what you guys should do is remove all tabs on the front page except General. There's no point in having devices when you have the search box. Also, you can go to the control panel instead of subscribed tab, and compact tab just seems useless to me. Other than the front page I think the site is great.I agreed with this guy on how the front page is. When I first joined here, the site was too busy. Even though I've gotten used to it, it's still looks busy.
New to this forum, can I change the forum home page to have my devices (sgs3 and nexus 7) appear above all the others?
Or whats the easiest way to access those devices forum? I keep scrolling through twenty other phones to find mine and that cannot be the best way..
Thanks
NVM- I found out how to subsribe through use of the app... Awesome app! almost preferable to using the site forums

if you are on the main page www.xda-developers.com, just click on "forums" then there is a box at the top right. Start to type the name of your device and it will give you only those options that match the name.
for instance, I use the Galaxy Nexus forum a alot, what I do is go to the box and type "Galax..." and I already have it there to select with the other Galaxy Phones, or just type "nexus" etc...
I do the same for harder to find forums like Nexus One (currently using), HP TouchPad, HD2, etc... as well.
Because I frequent so many forums and switch phones on the regular, that search box is really the best way to go.
The thing is this forum supports SO many phones, many of them different only because of SoC (international Note / One X etc.. vs US variants) and they have to be split. if you use an N7000 Odin image on an i717, you are going to have problems. So no matter how they are arranged, it is likely that someone is going to want it changed.
The best advice I can give is to use the search bar I mentioned.
1.Bookmark
2.Subscribe
3.Device Search bar
That's it
An offer came for me from Galaxy S4. The Note 2 will be upgraded to Android 4.3 but not compatible with Open ES3.0? This is the question for games... the S4 in this offer is $ 1,000 less than the normal price. I like the big screen of Note 2 and SPEN. I want opinions for it...
