I just now received a software update, 4.0.1. I have been rooted for many months, but I never took the update that gave so many people difficulty with freegee and other issues. This must be the same update, no???? Should I install or not? If I do will I be safe and what benefits would I get? Again, I'm rooted, stock - basically and updated Freegee. Could it mess up what I already have? Thanks for all your input...

If you did anything more than unlocking the bootloader and rooting you can't update with ota anymore.
OK. I thought that might b the problem. Do u know where I can get a link to the latest update?
Thanx

Yes, there is a 4.0.4 update. If you want it, then un-root, grab the OTA, and re-root.
Sorry if this has been asked b4. First day in this thread. Should I completely unroot or can I use the app that temporarily unroots
*found the thread with the download. I can just flash threw cwm

I have never tried the temp un-root, so I do not know anything about it.
If I had to guess, I would say that it does not matter which way you do it.
Someone with more Android knowledge than me will come along and let you know which would be better.
Yeah, you basically have 2 choices, unroot and go back to stock recovery, then wait for the OTA, or flash the 4.0.4 (or even 4.1) update yourself
Thanx. I just flashed the 4.0.4. But had to reroot. Everything seems to working great. Imma give it a lil b4 I jump on a 4.1 rom

That is not completely true. You can basically go ahead and flash as well (e.g. Jelly Bean) without breaking OTA.
As long as the files you are flashing are all stock (Android Build, Kernel, Radio & RIL, Bootloader), not de-odexed, and you do not permanently install an alternative Recovery (like CWM) and moreover take care that your busybox version is not known for interfering with OTA in some cases (like the Stericson one), you will be able to do a lot more than just unlocking and rooting and the OTA is supposed to still work if everything is done right.

Unlocked and have recovery...just flash the 4.0.4 radios and a 4.0.4/4.1 ROM. You are done with OTA. Manually flash updates or restore to stock.
So I just started getting the notification for the verizon One update. It's obviously not 4.3, but I wouldn't mind installing it to see if anything has changed. The problem is that I'm rooted and have CWM installed. Every time it goes into recovery to flash the update, it fails to install and then just reboots. I'm used to dealing with nexus devices, so is there any way for me to flash back to the stock rom and get the OG recovery back?

If you don't mind losing possibility of soff, losing your root, and possibly your unlock then sure. There is no point though.

I have an at&t s3 that is unlocked and am using it on t-mobile. I had the phone rooted with stock 4.1.2. Every time I tried to manually update it, it would pop up with update interrupted. I finally unrooted and went back to stock 4.1.1. The phone is still giving me the same message. Please help if you can.

Update may be failing because you are rooted. Rumor is you must be 100% stock unroofed for the update to complete.
As I said I unrooted and went back to stock 4.1.1!

Using it on TMobile means that the AT&T servers won't even know it's out there to be updated. Find an AT&T sim card and it should update.
So it is because I'm on a different carrier?

I'm just going by what other people have reported. There have been a few that said they had trouble updating with a TMO sim card in. I haven't updated mine because I'm running stable right now and I'm waiting to see if the developers here can work around this new bootloader. They're having more trouble that usual manipulating Samsung's crap. I've heard it's a good update (smooth running, etc) but it's nearly impossible to flash other stuff if you get it.
Still cant get it to update ota and kies says its the latest firmware.

If you are connected to Tmo's network even if it did recognize the phone as needing to be updated it would download the T999 ota which is most likely causing your problem when the installer checks the hardware for compatibility. A quick google search turned up THIS which is a (stock) recovery flashable .zip for the official UCUEMJB build.

I had my note 2 rooted using Kingo one click method before and recently unrooted prior to the OTA update. I am running stock 4.3 and don't have a custom recovery installed (that I am aware of at least). I've received the system update message twice now and tried to install it both times. It appears to go through but then when it finally boots up nothing has changed and I'm still running 4.3. Any thoughts?
Did you uninstall any stock apps? I have read that can block updates.

You could try flashing the stock tar though odin?

I don't believe so. I did a factory reset not too long ago so it should have everything. Anyone else have issues?
How do we get rid of the "System Update Downloaded" notification and/or delete the update file(s) to reclaim space?
