|GUIDE| PC Does Not Recognize Note 2 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

If you get the errors that state that your phone is not recognizable or the drivers on your new PC is
A. Cannot be found
B. Any other message that doesnt state "Your Device Is Ready To Be Used"
Then follow this guide
1. This is really simple and easy, CHANGE THE CABLE. Maybe the cable you are using cannot transfer data correctly or its just broken or it just doesn't like you.
2. Some have reported that using a USB 3.0 port on the PC in question may not work correctly. Try using a USB 2.0 port instead if possible.
3. Now this is what works the best if you use custom cooked roms.
-Launch the phone key pad on your note and press *#7284# (don’t forget to start with that * symbol!)
-When you press the last pound sign (#) this will bring up an option that will allow you to change your USB connection settings (modem or PDA) – change it to PDA.
-At the bottom there is a button that says Qualcomm USB. Click on it.
-In that menu click on MTP + ADB option.
-Save and reset.
-Wait for your phone to restart.
-Plug the micro USB cable to the Note 2 and the the other end to your PC or Mac
-Let your computer down load and install drivers.
-Once installing is done, unplug then replug phone.
-There should be a USB symbol on your phone in the status bar - click on it. It should ask if you wsnd to use mtp or ptp. Click MTP
-At this point your PC should open the phone’s folders in explorer similar to the screenshot above.
Do a little dance, make a little love, get down tonight.
i do not take credit finding all of this by my own, i used google.

Possible solution for issues with MAGLDR, USB Flasher.

Let me share one solution that I developed recently.
At some point, after numerous reinstallation of Android, my HD2 become undiscoverable for MAGLDR as well as for Android flasher via USB Flasher. I wasn't able to flash anything. "Waiting for USB connection" was displayed until timed out. I did reset phone, removed battery, rebooted PC - nothing happened. I started to think about replacing USB cable.
Here is what helped at the end:
- Disconnect phone from PC
- Open Command Prompt
- Type "set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1", Enter.
- Type "start Devmgmt.msc", Enter.
- Two commands above should be entered in the same command prompt window or it won't have an effect.
- When Device Manager opens select View->Show Hidden Devices
- Expand all nodes and remove all inactive devices - and icon of such device is grayed out
Here is an article about it http://support.microsoft.com/kb/241257
After that when I connected phone with USB cable system reinstalled drivers from scratch and I was able to flash.
:::Edited:::
Try killing any adb running in the background first
I'm not sure it is somehow connected with Android or ADB since when HD2 is in flasher mode it is not runnung Android. The device is detected like HTC Usb Sync or something like this.
Another option is to use updated flasher attached. I found it on russian forum.

Meh... I can't read. For some reason I read that you were talking about connecting your phone to the PC, i.e. within android, for USB mass storage etc....
Even the topic of the thread says otherwise. I'll go get my eyes tested...
Sometimes it's because ADB still in your PC memery, just force close it and everything will be fine.
As I said I tried to reboot PC but it didn't help. I doubt ADB start with Windows but rather only when you start using it.

Thanks man. I was already freaking out because of this.
I'm going to try this on my desktop, that's why I stopped using it lol
Sent from my HD2 using xda premium
Thanks! It worked very well!!
PG
Really thank you, you saved my phone
Mine has always done that. I just have to wait until the flasher program gets to the Looking for USB step and disconnect/reconnect the USB cable.
Or get a new cable. I had the same issue but even this guide didnt work. My cable needed replacing, luckily I had a spare in my closet. Tried it and bingo all the drivers installed. If it just wont find it, get a new USB cable.
I have the same problem but in bootloader my usb connection works...when i try to flash recovery with usb flasher mode in magdlr doesnt.
Wait for usb............and is stuck like that.So its not the cable..i tried to install new driver..i tried with command prompt....im freaking out!!
Installing WMDC 6.1 worked for me

[Q] Drive Mode Windows 7

Hello,
I just got my Evo. Love it.
My question is, I enter drive mode on Windows Vista, but when I try to enter drive mode on Windows 7, the drive does not show up. In the device manager, it shows up as an unknown device. In devices and printers, it shows up as an Android phone. ????
Any help would be great!!!
did you install htc sync on the windows 7?
Mine did the same thing on Windows 7. Actually I'm on my third Evo & all of them were like that. I never got the option to choose in the notification bar & HTC Sync never helped, the phone wasn't recognized.
Make sure you're using the cable that came with the phone or at least one shorter than two-feetish. Long 3rd party cables won't work. Download widgetsoid 2.x from the market, it's a power control widget & it's great. Make a 1x1 switcher widget & only select "usb storage" under the first category. Ignore all of the other options because you'll be removing it after anyway. On the bottom panel, scroll all the way to the right & click apply. Sorry for the lengthy description, I'm not sure how well you know how to work your phone. Okay, turn on USB debugging in settings > applications > development. If you feel the need you can reboot your phone. Be sure to not kill anything.
Connect the cable to the computer. You should get a notice that usb debugging is on, don't touch it. Find the widget you made & touch it. You should connect after a couple seconds. If it tells you to connect your phone first, then it isn't working & this advice was pointless.

The device it's seeing is the adb interface from the phone (Unknown Device). If you enter storage mode (ie Cable plugged in -> Notifications > USB Connected > Turn on USB Storage), it is a different device that should be recognized by Win7 native drivers. If not, you could try installing HTC Sync and then rebooting, then plugging in your phone and try that.
Worst case, get a microSD-SD adapter that will let you put your SD card direct in the PC (not the best solution, but it works).

Help us help you, Please answer the questions below:
1. What OS are you using? Ex. Windows XP/Vista/7/8 or Mac OSX?
2. Do you get any error when installing the driver?
3. Do you get an error when you connect the device?
4. We're you able to sync or get your phone detected by KIES?
Thanks,

Please do check the following:1. USB Ports
Try a different port. [Applies to PREVIOUSLY DETECTED PHONE and/or NEW PHONE CONNECTED FOR THE FIRST TIME]
If you are using a desktop computer, try the USB ports at the back of your computer.
If you are using a notebook computer, make sure the power plan you're using is not in Balanced or Power Saver. Try using High Performance when trying to flash and make sure USB Selective Suspend is disabled.2. USB Filter Driver [Applies to Windows Vista/7 Machines though later version of XP Supports USB Filter Driver]A Filter Driveris a Microsoft Windows driver that adds value to peripheral devices or supports a specialized device in the personal computer. It is a driver/program/module that is inserted into the existing driver stack to perform some specific function.
Written either by Microsoft or the vendor of the hardware, any number of filter drivers can be added to Windows. Upper level filter drivers sit above the primary driver for the device (the function driver), while lower level filter drivers sit below the function driver and above the bus driver.Try deleting theUSB "Upper Filter" & "Lower Filter" Entry in registry editor and check if it fixes the problem.
Delete the USB Upper and Lower Filter in the Registry by following the steps by following the steps below:
Before we go any further, please first backup the Registry.
Important: This method contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry
incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can
restore the registry if a problem occurs.
For more information about how to back up and restore the registry in Windows:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Back-up-the-registry
1. Click “Start”, type “REGEDIT” (without quotation marks) in the “Search” bar and press Enter.
Note: If UAC (User Account Control) pops up, please accept it.
2. Right click “Computer” (the root node) in the left pane, click “Export” under the “File” menu, choose “All” under “Export range”, and select “Desktop”
in the “Save” in box and type backup in “File Name”. Click “Save”.
Note: The backup file is on the Desktop and named backup.reg. We can simply restore the registry by double-clicking the backup.reg file.
3. Click “Start”, type “REGEDIT” (without quotation marks) in the “Search” bar and press Enter again.
4. Locate the “UpperFilters” value under the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{36FC9E60-C465-11CF-8056-444553540000}
5. On the “Edit” menu, click “Delete”, and then click “OK”.
6. Locate the “LowerFilters” value under the same key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{36FC9E60-C465-11CF-8056-444553540000}
7. On the “Edit” menu, click “Delete”, and then click “OK”.
8. Quit Registry Editor and restart the computer.
Make sure you follow the steps correctly.3. Samsung drivers[Applies to PREVIOUSLY DETECTED PHONE and/or NEW PHONE CONNECTED FOR THE FIRST TIME]
Reinstall Samsung drivers to make sure driver files are intact. Believe it or not, a simple update or program installation can mess up drivers on your computer.
Before you re-install the driver, please take note of the following:
Your phone should be disconnected and/or any USB device (USB Flash drives, cameras, ipod etc etc)
Close any program that communicates with you phone -KIES, Odin etc etc.
If you're using for more than an hour or have opened several programs, please turn of your computer and the turn it back on, a warm boot (restart) is not the best way to "refresh" your computer before you install drivers, It should be a cold boot (shutdown-power up)
If you've taken my notes in consideration, please by all means re-install the drivers 4. Try a different version of Odin that supports Galaxy Young.
Make sure the Odin version you're using supports Galaxy Young. Some Odin versions support specific samsung phones ONLY5. Restore your computer to a state where your phone can be detected.[Applies to PREVIOUSLY DETECTED PHONE ONLY]
This option applies if all else fail and do me a favor, don't call your computer's support team, they will make you do a bunch of troubleshooting steps and in the end, a simple restore would take care of it.ANOTHER NOTE:
Pressing the POWER BUTTON without having both HOME BUTTON and VOLUME UP KEY pressed will not get you anywhere. Either your press HOME BUTTON first then the VOLUME UP KEY before you press the power button or you make yourself believe that your phone won't go into download mode/Odin mode. That being true, previous comment that says: "home button+power+volume down" I believe is a typo. Good luck to y'all who have this kind problem.

Cant transfer files from my phone to my pc via usb

so im using a pixel 2 xl, and i cant seem to transfer files between my phone and any pc whatsoever, i used to do this easily before, ive tried everything, turned on usb debugging, use the notification drawer changed the cable, but nothing seems to be working, what coudl be the problem and how do i solve it ??????????????????
USB mode now always defaults to "charging". You have to change it manually to "MTP" each time. At least in my experience.
I had the same problem. With my Nexus 5x and USB-C to USB cable it works, but with my Pixel 2 XL it works not, so i had to buy a new USB-C to USB cable and now it works.
Not sure what cable you are using but do not use a USB C to USB C cable, make sure its a USB c to USB a.

Ive been having issues lately too. Doesnt matter which cable i use. It will connect then disconnect over and over again. IT may be my computer but not sure how to check why it would be doing that.
Are you doing gigabytes of data? If it's just in the hundreds of megabytes transfer to Google Drive. I do that when I have files on my computer I want over to my phone and vice versa.

I had the same issue with my Pixel 2 as well and after reading through numerous forums, I figured out how to fix it. its been two days now and I am still able to transfer files via USB.
Here is what you need to do:
1) Enable developer mode by going into Settings > System About Phone > Build number and tapping a few times (5 I think!)
2) Click back and then select Advanced > Developer Options
3) Scoll down the menu until you see "Default USB configuration". Tap and then select the option you require (ie: File Transfer)
4) Click back, then scroll up the menu till you see "USB Debugging". Enable USB Debugging.
5) Connect your Pixel 2 to you laptop/PC. The phone should appear in the Devices list in 'Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers. Leave it connected for another 5 or 10 minutes and it should become available in "This PC"
6) Disconnect the Pixel2 from your laptop/PC
7) Disable "USB Debugging" and disable "Developer Mode" on the phone.
8) Reconnect the Pixel2 to your PC/Laptop. It should now appear under "This PC" every time you connect and you should now be able to view and transfer files between you PC and Pixel2.
Let me know if it works for you or not.

I had the same issue on my notebook yesterday - the phone would connect, but once I transmitted a larger file the transmission was terminated after a few seconds.
In my case it wasn't the cable, it was the USB port on my notebook! I simply used a different one and then it worked flawlessly
Thank god my notebook has 4 USB ports, I pity people with notebooks with a single USB port

Got the same problem. Since a few days device isn't recognized on any computer. Tried serveral usb cables (they were all working before) - no success. As soon as i am connecting device to a windows computer it says "device couldn't get regonized properly". So it isn't recognized as android phone. So your method didn't work (tried all the steps before). I also remarked before, thad my device sometimes restarts as i plug in an usb cable. Mainly when connected to a pc but also serveral times only when charging. So i resetted my device back to all stock (even formated data), flashed original boot whitout twrp, no root. It's starting nice but i even can't install the update (january patch) through device. Alway gives me install error. So it isn't recognized in adb... So i can't use fastboot mode to reinstall twrp.... Any advice? Think gonna claim for replacement.... Seems a hardware problem.
Had something similar a couple of months back.
Just do a quick check with usb dac and otg. If they are not working, the component is fried. RMA.
Else, faulty cable or friend port in laptop.
