Screen protectors - G Pad 8.3 Accessories

I saw a couple of screen protectors on ebay/amazon, but most of them have no reviews/sales.
I don't want to buy, not knowing if they're good or bad.
Any recomendations from those 2 sites or others?
Thanks.

Personally, I never use screen protectors. Unless the screen on the G Pad is unusually easy to scratch, I can't see why one would be necessary. I would use a sleeve or case to protect it while it's not in use and not worry about a protector when I'm using it. But that's just my take.

The no brand Ebay ones are usually very crappy, and scratch quite easily.
The XtremeGuard ones.... i find they are strong, however they make the screen grippy.
Wished SGP Spigen would make one for this device, their screen protectors are awesome.

Personally I have always sworn by RealLook- not the cheapest, but they fit the better than any I have found, are crystal fracking clear and feel good too. I have the Speigen on my G2 and maybe it's just me, but doesn't feel as slick as the RL. Also, and this may be my imagination, but it seems more of a fingerprint magnet than the RL's I used on my Skyrocket and Tab. Even after paying for the Speigen (and a Galss-M which lasted 10 minutes) when RL licks up support for the G2 I'm throwing away the perfectly good Speigen... hopefuly I'll have my gPad by then.

You can give a try to the vikuiti DQC160. you can find on ebay for approx 20 EUR. Definitely great!

Hah, I'm using that "stock screen sheet", just cut off that little piece, where you are supposed to grab it and remove the sheet, and it's a perfect screen protector for $0

Lol, I did the same thing. Also purchased some off of Amazon as well for $9 but haven't used any yet.

Also doing the same thing and using the stock sheet. However I did pickup these from ebay.

I know a little pricy but am use to it as I typically get the ones from Spigen. Anyway he seemed to have mostly positive reviews so figured I'd give it a try. Should have it by next week.

Email them. I also am a big fan of Spigen and can tell you right now they have no plans to support the G Pad. However if enough people request it, they may change their mind. I have already inquired and requested myself.

Whatever you do, don't buy the Armorsuit screen protector. I installed it last night, and my touch screen is 90% non-functional through it. Worked perfectly on my phone, but it's worthless for this tablet.
Edit: scratch that, it killed my touch screen. Just pulled it off, and I'm still getting random button presses and no sensitivity. I applied it exactly according to instructions (and I have the same product working perfectly on my phone), so this shouldn't have happened. I'm guessing some water got under the screen.

has anyone tried the xtremeguard on this tablet?

I would be extremely cautious with any of the screen protectors that require water for application. The G Pad doesn't seem to be sealed very well, and (as I said above) I managed to get some water under the screen despite following the directions exactly.

I haven't yet. I'm going to give it a few more hours to see if it dries up on its own, then I'm throwing it in a bag of rice.

I purchased and applied the Armorsuit to my GPE G Pad yesterday, have no issues at all with touch screen sensitivity/useability. Sprayed both sides with application liquid, and applied, squeegeed out excess liquid wipe dry with towel, waiting for micro bubbles to dry up and disappear now...would prefer a dry apply but the wet apply works just as well.

That's what I did as well, but my screen appears to be thoroughly borked. It's registering touches when I'm not even holding it, and I can't even turn it off because pressing the on-screen confirmation buttons does absolutely nothing. My best guess is that some of the application fluid got under the glass or into the case (how, I'm not sure - there was hardly any excess and I dried it all off once I got everything squeegeed). I've got it sitting in a bag of rice right now to see if that fixes it.
I've used the same type of protectors on both of my phones with zero problems, so I'm not sure what went wrong. I plan on calling their customer service line this afternoon, but I doubt I'll get anywhere with them.

I advise you to leave the touch screen near something warm. And leave the device off for a day or 2, if you can. I had this happen to me when I tried to apply a wet application screen protector. I also factory resetted the device before I left it off for 2 days.

Thanks for the tips. Can't turn it off because the screen refuses to register touches in the center, but it's just about out of battery now, so it should be turning off on its own soon. It's currently in its bag of rice in a warm spot, so we'll see how it turns out.

Invisible Gadget Guard screen protector and full body protector

I ordered those from eBay for around $15, they just arrived today. Tried to apply body protector first. Body protector is made out of 5 pieces and no matter how hard you would try to fit them, it's impossible to get them to stick nicely and not move. Started with the battery cover piece that's the largest and easiest to apply, it turned out to be just a little too big and when I put battery cover back on the of the phone, sides of the protector unglued and let the air under them which created bubbles. Tried side protector next, but that thing is impossible to fit. Gave up on the whole body protector and though to just apply screen protector and keep my gel case for now.
Screen protector is of the most horrible quality I've ever seen in my life! It's so grainy, it looks like my screen has a resolution of about 100x40 after application. More than that I'm not sure if it's because I used soaped water (as per instructions) or for some other reason, but parts of the screen-protector actually turned grey (against black background), some other parts are a bit clearer, but still, grain kills the whole thing. Ripped it off and will be waiting for some better screen-protectors to show up on the market.
Don't waist your money on those.

My Zagg should be here tomorrow
I ordered a similar protector from clearfreak (they were the only ones selling a protector for the captivate when I ordered about 10 days ago), and it came in the other day. While the material itself seemed about on par with the zagg protectors (I've used Zagg before), the screen protector was a bit too big, so theres a bubble going across the top where the protector wraps around the top of the phone.
I see that zagg has protectors now, so I guess I'll get one of those. They seem to have changed up their offerings a bit, they offer full body "maximum coverage" and "easy install"; can anyone tell me how difficult the maximum coverage protector is to apply? I've done a zagg full body install on my zune hd, so I understand that these things are a bit tricky to get on just right, but I want to know if the full body is significantly harder than the easy install one with a bit less coverage.
How is the touch screen after you put on the screen protector? I have had a few that really seemed to mess with the touch screen. It seemed like it took twice as much pressure for it to react.
Is that the case with the captivate as well?

Capacitive touchscreens aren't pressure sensitive, so protector or not, how hard you press shouldn't make a difference. That being said, I have a Zagg invisibleshield on my zune hd, and it hasn't affected the touch sensitivity at all.
I've used BodyGuardz and Zagg before. The one piece of advice I have is, instead of using the soaped water they give you, use isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. It lets you slide the cover to the correct position very easily and will just evaporate out from under the cover, leaving no bubbles. I had a super clean install on my HTC Pure that way. To be safe I'd also remove the battery and make sure the phone has plenty of time to dry before you turn it on again. Also, if you enter ZAGG's weekly iPad giveaway thingy they have been giving out 40 and 50% off coupon codes.
I just got the AT&T screen protectors (pack of 3 for $10). I actiually got it for 5 (50% off through FAN account) and they are of good quality, clear and fit perfectly. There's even a cutout for the earpiece speaker and light and proximity sensors.
The two AT&T stores I went to did not have them but the AT&T smaller stores in the malls did.
I got the full body Invisible Gadget Guard, and mine looks fine. I didn't use soapy water, just plain old water, and everything fits perfectly, except for when I was dipping it in the bowl of water it snagged on the side of the bowl and when I made the mistake of trying to pull it off, it stretched, but I just cut it to fit and it's hardly noticeable.
Although, I won't lie. I did order the Zagg front screen protector for the fact that I know it works. I did the infamous "key test" on this cheap one, and it performed surprisingly well..
But it's not completely a rip-off if done right, especially for the $5 I paid.

you paid 5 bucks?
Let us know when you all get your Zagg Invisible Shield protectors in. I am trying to decide between Zagg and BodyGuardz. I haven't used either but I love the device entire too much to cover with a case.
With a 45 day money back guarantee, surely it cannot be that bad for the $24.
I bought the Invisible Gadget Guard off Ebay as well for $13.97 with a free car charger. I used just water to get it on. At first, it felt and looked awful but given 2 days, everything smoothed out and I was able to get all bubbles off. It's actually pretty nice now. I had to snip a little of the sides because I stretched it a little too long, but that's not a big deal.
I have a Zagg on my Zune HD, and initially I felt like it was a bit rubbery, but I left it on to see what happened, and after a week or so, it didn't feel rubbery anymore to me. You have to be really careful with the installation, make sure you dont get any dust/debris under the protector, but after that you can throw it in your pocket without any worries.
I got a phantomskinz for my captivate, since it ended up being similar in price to the Zagg but comes with 2 instead of one, and I'll post back here with impressions once it comes in.

Well I just finished installing this, and TBH it wasn't that bad... I've done many type of film installations on cars and stuff and it was very similar to doing it on the phone. I took my time with it and I am actually very satisfied with the result. It gives the phone a very needed grippy feel. Some pieces weren't the most perfect size to fit but it covered most of the area pretty well. I will got some pictures up later tonight. You really have to take your time with this installation or get a professional to do it, other wise you will end up like some people on here not very satisfied at all.

I've had it on for a week now and I've grown to like it quite a bit. Still considering getting a case since it won't protect it from drops.

TriboScreen screen protector

After watching that video I had to support the company that made it cause it's a pretty clever system they've come up with. I don't even care for dry install protectors but I had to try it. The fact that not only do you get 2 screen protectors with each order, you get the mold or jig specific to your device which ensures a properly installed protector every time.
I ordered mine off eBay from a seller named icapsale-istt. The product ships from S.Korea...I bought mine on the 9th, late in the evening, it arrived today. Pretty damn fast shipping if you ask me, especially since they estimated it wouldn't get to me until between 6.26.12 - 7.10.12. Obviously I can't do a product review since I don't have my device yet but rest assured I will once I get it installed.
**Update 6.30.12**
Alright fellas, got it on...installation was as straight forward as the video shows except you do have to get some bubbles out. So before you take off the top layer make sure you use the squeegee to get them all out. Unfortunately I got a spec of dust right smack dab in the middle of my screen but it's not noticeable unless the screen is off so for now it stays. First thing I noticed was the rainbow effect on the protector when the screen is off...when it's on I don't see any abnormalities. The screen feels the same as if it were naked. It doesn't cover the whole screen for obvious reasons (beveled edge around the screen) but during normal useage you don't even realize it. No banding, no rainbow effect, very clear, doesn't seem to effect the display negatively at all. Touch sensitivity is no different than without the protector on. The only thing about this is the price, it's pricey. That being said, it's not head and shoulders better than any other dry install protector i've ever used so hard to justify the price unless you're a noob and that concerned with installing one that the included jig will make you rest that much better...or if you're like me and just wanted to support the company who came out with such a setup for their ingenuity.
Overall, it's a nice protector that will ensure proper placement everytime...if only it could prevent dust as well But the price will turn most off, especially for this type of protector considering most of this type are about a quarter of the price or less. There is no rubbery feel on the display and it looks just as beautiful as it did when it was naked. I give this product an 8/10 only because of the price, would have been a 9 otherwise.
If I was not getting a otterbox defender I would get this. I hate putting screen protectors on wrong and this makes it so you can't.
yeah let us know how well they work. I am interested in seeing some close up shots of it installed as well.
I just purchased one as well!
I'm currently in S.korea and the SS3 isn't even out here yet, I wonder if I can get these here.
It's probably a lot cheaper here (just look at the prices of SGP in Korea compared to the rest of the world).
And does the screen protector cover the whole glass area?

How did it go?
Just got this in yesterday. Took off my XtremeGuard, and these screen protectors are pretty crystal clear and nice.
One problem is their cut. Unless if you have a case, they do not cover the whole phone but for good reason. The phone is a bit curved near the ends so if the hard plastic stretched all the way out it would float and not stick at all.
These are also reusable. To reinstall or reapply I suggest getting a lint remover, peeling off one of the tapes and just sticking your screen protector on it. This way it will remove any dust and you can reapply it.
It also feels great, if you have sweaty or oily hands, this screen protector will accommodate you. Application was easy, I just had a difficult time due to my dogs shedding in the summer heat... they are leaving a lot of hair around.
Summary: I would recommend it. Shipping takes forever though, like 2 to 3 weeks.

Thanks given :good: Nah man, it feels good. When I first installed an XtremeGuard, as much as I like that protector, it was noticeably tackier than the naked screen. This protectors feels as if it is the naked screen. As for the rainbow thing, yep, exactly as you just said. but turn the phone on and look for the rainbows or any other display defect and you're gonna be hard pressed.

[Q] Screen protectors

I'm psyched about the new Note and can't wait until it comes in. As far as screen protectors go would any of them work well?
I'd post links, but I'm unable to as a new member. I've found three on amazon made by COD, XtremeGuard and supershieldz.
Anyone know anything about these? I'm open to other suggestions and would like to know about anything I should be wary of.
I don't think that I am going to use a screen protector. Unlike a phone, a tablet, to me is one of those devices that you take out and use and then when you're done the cover of your case goes back over it and it gets put away. It isn't the kind of device like a phone that is everywhere all the time and rubbing up against all kinds of things. I remember an Apple store employee said to my son one time that he wouldn't recommend a screen protector for the iPad and his reasoning was go look at all of ours on display. There are thousands of people in here every week playing with them and we don't put screen protectors on those display devices and you would be hard-pressed to find one that has a scratch on it.

I haven't seen it mentioned in the specs so I'm guessing not.
Just wanted to update everyone on my experience so far... I order the iconic screen protector and it sucks. They attach a stick to the SP and it's impossible to remove cleanly. Do NOT get iconic.
EDIT:
Okay after working with it a bit.. and using the last screen protector I had... I first carefully removed as much of the sticker as I could with a very sharp pocket knife. Then I carefully applied the screen protector and managed to get it on perfectly (no bubbles, no lint on the inside or dust particles on the inside). It looks pretty good. So then to get all the sticky gunk from the sticker off I got some q-tips and rubbing alcohol. It got it off for the most part. if you look for it you can tell something was there, but you wouldn't notice otherwise.
It's not a bad product. I got little sleep last night and i'm a bit irritable today. However I may end up taking this thing off once I find a good case for it. I'll be doing research in the meantime to see if the s-pen has a tendency to leave permanent marks over time.
anyone has found a nice Anti-glare screen protector pls post the link as I want to buy it before ordering my GN 2014
Hey guys. I have a note 2 and I tried out, the pure glass, by bodygaurdz. ITS AWSOME. It doesnt take away from the spen sensitivity and it doesnt hold the pen when writing like if it was sticky or something cause its glass. I just spoke with them and they said they have a meeting on monday to start it so it should be out soon. I think its totally worth the money for the spen devices. Never going back to other ones if im using a pen device. Other wise I would still buy bodygaurdz regular one. So for now Im just going to buy one of those cheap 3 pack ones till the glass comes out. :victory:
I may put a protector on until I find a good case.. I usually use them on phones but not tablets. My iPad goes everywhere and doesn't have a scratch on it but it has a nice Sena zippered case.

As I said about there is a sticker on there to help you remove the mask. I advise you to get a small sharp knife and carefully try to slide it between the sticker and the actually screen protector. You can leave the other sticker alone that's on the mask so you can just use that to remove the mask. Then once you've got your screen protector on just get a couple of q-tips and some rubbing alcohol and the sticky crap should come off.
I haven't used it in direct sunlight, so I can't say how well it works in that situation, but so far I can't even tell there is anything on the screen unless I look at the edges. s-pen works just fine. Just use the microfiber cloth to wipe the top a bit and the pen will glide along. At first it's a little rough and awkward but a sensual rubbing with a microfiber cloth will fix it.

Lol yea... If you read the other posts I made in this thread you'll see I got those same ones and I kind of went on a rant. I messed up the first two times because I thought it would be easy to remove the sticker they put on there to help you remove the mask and I wound up pressing too hard and creating a warp in the material that looked like a bubble that would never go away. I finally got the third one on right and it looks great. I still need to see what it's like in direct sunglight though and tt's a little uneven to one side, but horizontally it's as straight and even as could be.

Yeah, those non wet kind can be a bit finicky to put on lol At least they're cheap, what really bites is if you pay a lot of money for one, and it goes south, I've had that happen, not fun lol

Well I was also lacking sleep and was already a little irrate trying to get this tablet in the first place. That sticker just really pissed me off. What I wound up doing on my last attempt was taking a very sharp pocket knife and gently sliding it between the stick and the screen protector and getting as much off as possible. Then I applied the SP and took the rest of the gunk off with rubbing alcohol and q-tips. looks great now and considering the price the screen protector is worth it. You just have to know how to apply them.
So overall these COD screen protectors are a decent purchase for $4. What is the sticker everyone keeps commenting on, its not in the picture so I wanted to find out before I wasted my time on it.

any dry-applied screen protectors available?

All I see on amazon are wet-applied skins...they're OK. i have a temporary one I'm using now by cutting a circle out of a extra piece of the wet kind. I want a dry-applied kind because I like the feel of those better. any recommendations?

The best ones so far seem to be the Official Motorola Protector, or if you're willing to wait a week or two, the
Spigen Glas.tR Slim protector is currently scheduled to ship starting 10/15.
EDIT: FYI, the one that Bikegeek posted above is actually the same as the Official Moto protector, as Power Support makes them for Moto.

I have it and love it. I can barely see it and I have to really look for it. And the better thing, it resists fingerprints. It shows less than the glass on the watch, which I love lol.
Spigen has the dry app, non-tempered glass one on Amazon that ships now. No reviews yet since it is still new but their products are usually good. Kind of expensive at $9.99 which is the same price for their screen protectors for phones. This uses much less material.

I'm using this but find that there are still fingerprint smudges. Maybe my fingers are too oily. :crying:

They still show a bit less than with none on, but for me the prints come off easier.

Indeed, they can easily be wiped off but it's still a little irritating (to me) that I have to constantly do so. Guess I'm used to the screen protector on my phone, which is more smudge-resistant. :silly:

No not silly, but for me without the one installed I had to whip out my micro fiber cloth daily. With the screen protector I can use my hand or shirt to quick wipe .
I have the Power Support protector. Does anyone else notice that you have to swipe several times after applying it (i.e. screen is less sensitive)?? I'm not liking that part.

No not me. Mine works like it did prior to install.

[anit-finger print] Oleophobic coating kit.

Didn't see anyone else talking about this on XDA. I though I would post my experience.
****This Product IS AMAZING*****
What is it?
Your touch screen comes with Gorilla Glass, which is great. It has an oleophobic coating on the screen that repels oils from your fingers, from your face. It is great. It also gives the screen that smooth finger sliding lower co-efficient of friction. That new phone screen feeling that I just love when I get a new phone. The problem is that it wears off after some time and you will notice after having the phone for a few months that the screen starts smudging and you start wiping the screen more and more to make it look clean. This drives me crazy and I can honestly admit that I have in the past purchased a new phone just so I could get that "New Screen Feeling". I once even traded in my Galaxy S2 used for a new S2 and spent $100 just to get the "New Screen Feeling".
Am I crazy?
Maybe but I am sure I am not the only one who loves a new screen. I absolutely hate screen protector with a passion, and I have tried multiple different protectors during my smart phone era but none did it for me except the ones that are made from tempered glass, but they suffer from the same fate of the coating wearing off and they are more susceptible to scratching then the stock screen.
So the solution?
This coating can be reapplied for cheap. There are a few different brands that I have come across. I used a brand called Proteger ordered on eBay from Japan. Other brands I have seen are Fusso and Dynaflo LIQUID-ARMOR. It appears that they are all manufactured in Japan. Most bottles are between $15 - $20.
The instructions say to use 10 - 15 drops on the screen. This is not needed and WAY TOO MUCH. You can put 4 - 5 drops on your screen per coat. Best to do 4 coats. This is how I applied it.
- clean first with supplied micro fibre cloth
- 5 drops on screen
- rub with one finger covering the whole screen. I kept rubbing until it was almost completely dry.
- once it is dry the screen is very hazy. Use a clean rag or paper towel to wipe it off. Keep turning the rag to a clean dry spot until all haze is gone.
- repeat 3 more times. It is suggested that you wait 8 hours to allow each coat to cure. I only waited 10 minutes and got great results, but tonight I will allow it 8 hours while I sleep to cure another coat.
Results.
You will notice immediately that the screen feels like new. Even after first coat, but it improves with every coat. The more coats the more slick the screen is.
******Here is the best part*******
I noticed with my Nexus 5 and previous phone that I would always get these micro scratches from regular use. This would drive some people to get screen protectors but I rather micro scratches then a disgusting looking screen protector. I never really got deep scratches or gouges but I would always get micro scratches that you could only see at certain angles. Here is the kicker. After applying the Proteger coating THESE SCRATCHES ARE GONE edit** the ok the scratches are not completely gone but they are much less noticeable. You really have to try to see them now. Obviously this product isn't some sort of magic solution, and the scratches don't disappear. I reckon that it fills the fine scratches kinda like wax on your car. Either way less noticeable is good enough for me.
I even tried it on my crappy beat up Blackberry work phone that has a pretty scratched up screen and all of the scratches are now gone except for 2 deep ones, but even they are less noticeable. AMAZING.
This is a great product and I will recommend it to everyone that I know. The bottle I bought was 10ml and I have done 2 phones and I can't even see the level go down in the bottle, this product should last a long time.
Anyone else use this stuff. Please leave your comments and reviews.

The Anker screen protectors I use are completely invisible, provided you apply them correctly. And to me, micro scratches are completely unacceptable for resale value purposes.
But good review, thanks for sharing, and to each their own.
Hmm maybe this would be great when applied on a cheap glass screan protector. A bit pricey, still.
Couldn't you just use RainX?

Exactly my experience. No one believes me when I tell them my phone has a screen protector applied to it. Also they have a very good anti-smudge coating which stops a lot of finger prints and makes the screen very easy to clean. And if you want to have a screen that looks and feels always as new as possible, just stick a new protector on the phone. I got 3 ones from Anker for just 5€. Obviously this only works if you put the screen protector on as soon as you unbox your freshly bought phone. IMO this is the only real way to prevent micro-scratches or any other type of scratches to harm the actual screen. If you want to sell your phone you can take the screen protector off and it looks as new (granted you have been using a case so the rest of your phone isn't scratched etc either)

I haven't personally used RainX, but I have heard some people get good results from it. That said, I still believe a true oleophobic coating is a better idea. I don't know how to feel about the chemical properties of RainX. Maybe I'm just paranoid...
Always wondered if those things actually worked....might get one now. Thanks.

Thanks for this. I've had a hammerhead here for 26 months and just realized after buying another phone how bad the screen is regarding oil and smudges. It is rather ungodly and disgusting looking after taking a phone call. Based on searches the oleophobic coating is gone and I've been looking for a kit to reapply some of it at the very least. All the other products I've looked at do recommend multiple applications several hours apart.
Hopefully your fourteen month old review still holds true.

I agree, my experience with Tech Armor glass screen protectors has been good! The oleophobic coating is better than the one that comes with the nexus 5 and the scratch resistance is better. With a case on, you forget it is even there. I'd link you to it if i could!
Thanks for that information, I was only aware of Fusso before and that costs about £20 for 3ml, for about £30 you get 20ml of this stuff, way better value! I know what to get next time!
Hey, are you able to confirm if the Proteger coating actually works well. Read a few reviews and they all say it only last half a day while Fusso has great reviews. Don't want to waste £30 in it if it's no good.
