any dry-applied screen protectors available? - Moto 360

All I see on amazon are wet-applied skins...they're OK. i have a temporary one I'm using now by cutting a circle out of a extra piece of the wet kind. I want a dry-applied kind because I like the feel of those better. any recommendations?

The best ones so far seem to be the Official Motorola Protector, or if you're willing to wait a week or two, the
Spigen Glas.tR Slim protector is currently scheduled to ship starting 10/15.
EDIT: FYI, the one that Bikegeek posted above is actually the same as the Official Moto protector, as Power Support makes them for Moto.

I have it and love it. I can barely see it and I have to really look for it. And the better thing, it resists fingerprints. It shows less than the glass on the watch, which I love lol.

Spigen has the dry app, non-tempered glass one on Amazon that ships now. No reviews yet since it is still new but their products are usually good. Kind of expensive at $9.99 which is the same price for their screen protectors for phones. This uses much less material.

I'm using this but find that there are still fingerprint smudges. Maybe my fingers are too oily. :crying:

They still show a bit less than with none on, but for me the prints come off easier.

Indeed, they can easily be wiped off but it's still a little irritating (to me) that I have to constantly do so. Guess I'm used to the screen protector on my phone, which is more smudge-resistant. :silly:

No not silly, but for me without the one installed I had to whip out my micro fiber cloth daily. With the screen protector I can use my hand or shirt to quick wipe .

I have the Power Support protector. Does anyone else notice that you have to swipe several times after applying it (i.e. screen is less sensitive)?? I'm not liking that part.

TriboScreen screen protector

After watching that video I had to support the company that made it cause it's a pretty clever system they've come up with. I don't even care for dry install protectors but I had to try it. The fact that not only do you get 2 screen protectors with each order, you get the mold or jig specific to your device which ensures a properly installed protector every time.
I ordered mine off eBay from a seller named icapsale-istt. The product ships from S.Korea...I bought mine on the 9th, late in the evening, it arrived today. Pretty damn fast shipping if you ask me, especially since they estimated it wouldn't get to me until between 6.26.12 - 7.10.12. Obviously I can't do a product review since I don't have my device yet but rest assured I will once I get it installed.
**Update 6.30.12**
Alright fellas, got it on...installation was as straight forward as the video shows except you do have to get some bubbles out. So before you take off the top layer make sure you use the squeegee to get them all out. Unfortunately I got a spec of dust right smack dab in the middle of my screen but it's not noticeable unless the screen is off so for now it stays. First thing I noticed was the rainbow effect on the protector when the screen is off...when it's on I don't see any abnormalities. The screen feels the same as if it were naked. It doesn't cover the whole screen for obvious reasons (beveled edge around the screen) but during normal useage you don't even realize it. No banding, no rainbow effect, very clear, doesn't seem to effect the display negatively at all. Touch sensitivity is no different than without the protector on. The only thing about this is the price, it's pricey. That being said, it's not head and shoulders better than any other dry install protector i've ever used so hard to justify the price unless you're a noob and that concerned with installing one that the included jig will make you rest that much better...or if you're like me and just wanted to support the company who came out with such a setup for their ingenuity.
Overall, it's a nice protector that will ensure proper placement everytime...if only it could prevent dust as well But the price will turn most off, especially for this type of protector considering most of this type are about a quarter of the price or less. There is no rubbery feel on the display and it looks just as beautiful as it did when it was naked. I give this product an 8/10 only because of the price, would have been a 9 otherwise.
If I was not getting a otterbox defender I would get this. I hate putting screen protectors on wrong and this makes it so you can't.
yeah let us know how well they work. I am interested in seeing some close up shots of it installed as well.
I just purchased one as well!
I'm currently in S.korea and the SS3 isn't even out here yet, I wonder if I can get these here.
It's probably a lot cheaper here (just look at the prices of SGP in Korea compared to the rest of the world).
And does the screen protector cover the whole glass area?

How did it go?
Just got this in yesterday. Took off my XtremeGuard, and these screen protectors are pretty crystal clear and nice.
One problem is their cut. Unless if you have a case, they do not cover the whole phone but for good reason. The phone is a bit curved near the ends so if the hard plastic stretched all the way out it would float and not stick at all.
These are also reusable. To reinstall or reapply I suggest getting a lint remover, peeling off one of the tapes and just sticking your screen protector on it. This way it will remove any dust and you can reapply it.
It also feels great, if you have sweaty or oily hands, this screen protector will accommodate you. Application was easy, I just had a difficult time due to my dogs shedding in the summer heat... they are leaving a lot of hair around.
Summary: I would recommend it. Shipping takes forever though, like 2 to 3 weeks.

Thanks given :good: Nah man, it feels good. When I first installed an XtremeGuard, as much as I like that protector, it was noticeably tackier than the naked screen. This protectors feels as if it is the naked screen. As for the rainbow thing, yep, exactly as you just said. but turn the phone on and look for the rainbows or any other display defect and you're gonna be hard pressed.

Screen protectors

I saw a couple of screen protectors on ebay/amazon, but most of them have no reviews/sales.
I don't want to buy, not knowing if they're good or bad.
Any recomendations from those 2 sites or others?
Thanks.

Personally, I never use screen protectors. Unless the screen on the G Pad is unusually easy to scratch, I can't see why one would be necessary. I would use a sleeve or case to protect it while it's not in use and not worry about a protector when I'm using it. But that's just my take.

The no brand Ebay ones are usually very crappy, and scratch quite easily.
The XtremeGuard ones.... i find they are strong, however they make the screen grippy.
Wished SGP Spigen would make one for this device, their screen protectors are awesome.
Personally I have always sworn by RealLook- not the cheapest, but they fit the better than any I have found, are crystal fracking clear and feel good too. I have the Speigen on my G2 and maybe it's just me, but doesn't feel as slick as the RL. Also, and this may be my imagination, but it seems more of a fingerprint magnet than the RL's I used on my Skyrocket and Tab. Even after paying for the Speigen (and a Galss-M which lasted 10 minutes) when RL licks up support for the G2 I'm throwing away the perfectly good Speigen... hopefuly I'll have my gPad by then.
You can give a try to the vikuiti DQC160. you can find on ebay for approx 20 EUR. Definitely great!
Hah, I'm using that "stock screen sheet", just cut off that little piece, where you are supposed to grab it and remove the sheet, and it's a perfect screen protector for $0

Email them. I also am a big fan of Spigen and can tell you right now they have no plans to support the G Pad. However if enough people request it, they may change their mind. I have already inquired and requested myself.
Whatever you do, don't buy the Armorsuit screen protector. I installed it last night, and my touch screen is 90% non-functional through it. Worked perfectly on my phone, but it's worthless for this tablet.
Edit: scratch that, it killed my touch screen. Just pulled it off, and I'm still getting random button presses and no sensitivity. I applied it exactly according to instructions (and I have the same product working perfectly on my phone), so this shouldn't have happened. I'm guessing some water got under the screen.

I would be extremely cautious with any of the screen protectors that require water for application. The G Pad doesn't seem to be sealed very well, and (as I said above) I managed to get some water under the screen despite following the directions exactly.

I purchased and applied the Armorsuit to my GPE G Pad yesterday, have no issues at all with touch screen sensitivity/useability. Sprayed both sides with application liquid, and applied, squeegeed out excess liquid wipe dry with towel, waiting for micro bubbles to dry up and disappear now...would prefer a dry apply but the wet apply works just as well.

That's what I did as well, but my screen appears to be thoroughly borked. It's registering touches when I'm not even holding it, and I can't even turn it off because pressing the on-screen confirmation buttons does absolutely nothing. My best guess is that some of the application fluid got under the glass or into the case (how, I'm not sure - there was hardly any excess and I dried it all off once I got everything squeegeed). I've got it sitting in a bag of rice right now to see if that fixes it.
I've used the same type of protectors on both of my phones with zero problems, so I'm not sure what went wrong. I plan on calling their customer service line this afternoon, but I doubt I'll get anywhere with them.

I advise you to leave the touch screen near something warm. And leave the device off for a day or 2, if you can. I had this happen to me when I tried to apply a wet application screen protector. I also factory resetted the device before I left it off for 2 days.

Thanks for the tips. Can't turn it off because the screen refuses to register touches in the center, but it's just about out of battery now, so it should be turning off on its own soon. It's currently in its bag of rice in a warm spot, so we'll see how it turns out.

[Q] Moto X Screen Protectors ?

Hello Folks,
I know there are loads of screen protector threads out there but none of them are recent for the MotoX.
I have had an XtremeGuard Protector on my X for a few months, but the gummyness, orange peel and lack of screen sensitivity is killing me.
What are some good current options that are $15 or under ?
Thanks,
Pete
I'm currently using the SUPCASE Screen protector that came with my case: has everything I need to get it on once and only once(even comes with a lint remover film). Looks and feel great. I don't know what you mean by 'gummyness though, the only screen protector I would describe that has a gummy-like feel(especially when I pinch with my fingernail is the Skinomi brands.

I bought a couple of the Mimeusa.com glass screen protectors, one for my wife and another for myself. Installed mine first, its a little different installing such a stiff protector, luckily i was able to lift it back up easily a couple times to adjust the positioning.
The wifes I installed a couple hours after, and it felt like it gave me more problems. didn't want to get positioned right, but eventually I got it lined up well.
The next day it fell off in her car while she was driving and got covered in dirt and dust on the adhesive side.
Mine is still on, after 2 weeks of use;
The texture is awesome! i hate most screen protectors, but this is glass and feels so good to the touch. you hardly notice its there.
It hasn't taken and scratches, and it does feel like fingerprints are less noticeable than on the bare screen.
I don't have a case of my X yet, ordered a bumper from amazon, but its not here yet.
I feel that the protector gathers small fibers easily at the edge. there are a couple of very small fibers that have worked there way just under the edge of the glass. They are hardly noticeable, especially when the screen is on.
I have not seen any new accumulation since the first few days, so maybe its more prone to catching the fibers in the hours / day after installation. I would advise avoiding pockets for 24 hours after installing this product if you can.
I will probably use this screen protector until it chips/breaks/gets too scratched up, and then go naked screen for the rest of the phones life.
If you are intending to spend $15 for a screen protector, might as well get a tempered glass one. I'm using this one: http://www.amazon.com/i-Blason-Motorola-Ultra-Thin-Tempered-Protector/dp/B00E0CUP18/
If you installed it correctly the first time, it should stay stuck and without any bubbles.

I would just like to throw out my support for Liquid Armor. I use it on all of my touchscreen devices, and have never had a scratch on a screen since, and it feels just like glass, without anything on it. The best part is that the one bottle can be used for several screens. Though if you don't use it in a couple months, the stuff will harden in the nozzle of the bottle, making it more difficult to use.
Edit: figured Id throw in a link. http://www.amazon.com/Dynaflo-LIQUID-ARMOR-Universal-Microfiber-DYN-LA100SP/dp/B007EZ3EM0

Disclaimer: I posted this in a couple other threads, but I wanted to try and post it where I know we've been discussing tempered glass screen protectors.
Here's some pictures of the redesigned i-Blason protector. As you can see, there is now a cutout for the proximity sensor. The corners also fit the Moto X perfectly (their old design fit perfectly too). Very happy I finally have a protector that FITS and where the proximity sensor won't be blocked! I liked the i-Blason until I had started having proximity sensor issues because I had dropped it several times, and it never once cracked, unlike the MIME, which cracked the very first time I dropped it.

i have tempered glass on my moto X ( mimeusa.com/product/moto-x-ghost-glass-screen-protector/ ) since january.
it was very easy to install and the feel is wonderful. my only complaint is that when you drop your phone, it can crack. better a crack on the protector than a scratch on the device, right? my phone has been pretty suicidal lately, what w/ jumping off tables, so it has accumulated many cracks on the protector. i am replacing it (with same ghost glass) and also buying a bumper case ... that may make a difference in the life span of the protector.
this is my first glass protector and yes i like it. on previous devices i used zagg screen protectors and was VERY HAPPY with them, but when i ordered their protector for the moto X, i found that they must have screwed up on the device specs, as the film didn't even cover the entire viewing screen. UNACCEPTABLE! i will not go back to their products.
I had the MIMEUSA and was very happy with the feel of the MIMEUSA, but it didn't fit properly. The corners were too squared and extended over the screen. The edges were also suppose to be beveled to prevent chipping but mine seemed like they were beveled out, leaving a lip on the glass. This all led to the edges chipping and eventually a larger break.
I ordered the i-Blason to try it and am very happy. The fit is perfect, its quite a bit thinner than the MIMEUSA, and it feels just as slick and smooth as the MIMEUSA and the glass screen. I would recommend the i-Blason over the MIMEUSA. And the i-Blason is only $17 on Amazon making it about the same price as the high quality plastic protectors.

I have been getting a lot of questions as to how the official protector looks and feels. I have uploaded an imgur album full of close up shots. The official protector is hard to see even if you know it is on there. It feels very close to the original glass. I wasted my money on a handful of cheap (and not so cheap) protectors. I don't want others to do the same!

I can attest. I have had it on since Tuesday and looks great and fit great too.
Ordered it last night. I have one of the rubbery ones from Amazon on now. It looks fine but feels terrible. How long did it take to get the tracking info?

Oh awesome. I ordered it fairly late so hopefully I get it today. I'm keeping this rubbery thing on here til I get them. Unless it really starts to annoy me lol.

Is your current one a wet install protector? I found that's the case most of the time. This one is dry install. I messed up my initial install because I was on a conference call at work and forgot which side was the adhesive side lol. But this protector is smooth. Not tempered glass smooth, but dang close.

It's not officially a wet install, but after having so many bubble issues I figured I try washing it in water. It ended up being a lot easier, but yeah the feel isn't great.
Edit: Just got the shipped email =]
I work at Best Buy, and we just got the Moto branded shield in our store yesterday. A single one. Which I bought. But be on the lookout!

I got this one, I do not work at BestBuy. It is reflective and not soft to touch. Feels and looks just like the glass which is great.
I noticed mine is slightly smaller (maybe 1mm diameter) than the actual screen size. Hardly noticeable.
Most BestBuy have at least one or two of them. Weird because I could not find them online but they were on the shelves.
I'm using the ArmorSuit protector ($8 from Amazon). I like it a lot. Pretty much feels like bare glass and it's not thick enough to be noticed unless you angle the watch and really look for it.
I'm using a Zagg protector. Feels like a standard zagg and looks pretty good. I had them undersize it by about 1mm.

All of the other protectors I bought I could depress my finger nail into them. That is not what i was looking for. The official ones are the only ones so far that have a hard glass like feel. But to each their own.
The spigen one's are available for pre-order on Amazon. They're shipping in 10 days. A bit pricey though. 22 dollars for one. I'm supposed to be receiving the official ones today so hopefully those can hold me off until more affordable glass ones come out.

I want to use only tempered glass not anything that's plastic in any form. Looks like Spigen is the only one making them from glass so far huh

I'm just worried the tempered ones will sit up too high on the display. Maybe if it's tapered up fro the sides it wouldn't be so bad. I will have to see a close up photo before investing in one.

Screen protectors

Looks like screen protectors are popping up on amazon, but nothing with prime yet.
Does anyone have experience with any of the brands available?

I'm wondering if one of those glass protectors might be a good option for this sort of device. Anyone scratched their screen yet? I'm sure it's an eventuality.

I have one on my Nexus 5, I feel like it would stick up way too much and just get destroyed.
I've used both pet and tpu protectors for years and never had problems with good brands including keeping phone with keys in the pocket.
So, I pulled the trigger and ordered Xinomi 6 pack, at least that's the name I heard of and for protectors they got consistent 4+ stars at amazon, will let you know once they arrive.

Did you received the Skinomi screen protector? How do you like them?
Yes, just got it installed last night.
In nutshell they are OK, easy installation (cause you can reposition while it is wet and screen is small), good clarity and OK feel, not too rubbery. Have no idea if they how good they are at protecting the screen tho, never used them before.
OK, noticed only outside, but looks like it makes screen more glossy look, not extremely bad, but noticeable a bit
Got a package too

I ordered a package too. At least I will have the Smartwatch 3 protected until a better screen protector will become available. Thanks for the update. I should have the watch by Monday.
Does anyone have a good screen protector available in the Netherlands? Skinomi is not shipping to the Netherlands not even from Amazon.co.uk

I got the cheap (like 3$) xgaurds or whatever from ebay - the 6 pack or 1 pack is from the same vendor, the 1 pack is wet, the other is dry application. Works great, it is a wet application and doesnt mess with the sensors.
I am usually terrible at putting these on as I have no patience, but I only have one pin like size buble on the upper edge which is not even noticeable. I dont notice a difference in the tactile feedback

Do you have the wet or dry application? If you have both, which do you prefer and are they okay?
Last question: can you please give us the link or exact name?
Thanks!

Sure...the wet one is "ExtremeGaurd" while the Dry is "EZGaurd". I didnt know one was wet, maybe because it was so cheap so I thought "what the hell", but I always go wet if possible.
I like the wet better as you can iron out the bubbles and i find it more idiot proof (especially with this watch) since you put the soapy water all over your hands and watch without any worry since its waterproof. That means no fingerprints and a pretty good adherence.
For 3$ and like 5 day shipping, give it a shot...at least you didnt waste much money!
